The first dim sum restaurant in Philly with great prices and good portions. Best dishes here was the Phoenix Bun, Stuffed Eggplant, and their Turnip Cake, but you truly can't go wrong with any of the options. They are known for their steamed pork buns, which tasted good, but not my favorite. I also wish they offered vinegar for the soup dumplings. They provide you with a thorough menu with pictures and you mark which options you'd like. The service is speedy and friendly. Thee staff is fast about removing and bringing plates. The restaurant is rather small/tight, so depending on when you come, you may need to wait a little bit or eat at the bar. A fun part is the wallpaper in the restroom that shows different dim sum options with descriptions.

I've ventured to the OG location in NY many moons ago and thought I'd check out the Philly location as I was having a dim sum craving. I can say it definitely hit the spot! *AMBIANCE* This restaurant is a fantastic blend of old-school charm and modern comfort. This is not the traditional dim sum restaurant where push carts come rolling out...they give you a menu (with helpful pictures of the dishes) and you mark what you'd like on a piece of paper. *FOOD* We ordered a bit of everything and thought all the dishes were fantastic. Some standouts for me were the rice roll with fried dough which was crunchy and flavorful. I also enjoyed the sticky rice with lotus leaf and the house special pan friend dumplings. The only thing I'd probably not order again is the ribs as they were greasy and mostly bone. *SERVICE* Service was friendly and quick, and the space has a casual, welcoming feel. There's a 3.99% surcharge, and that is discounted off your bill if you pay in cash. Overall, if you're craving classic dim sum bites in a relaxed, stylish setting--this is your spot.

Loved their dimsum! Favorite was the bean curd-wrapped shrimp thing and the house special dumplings in broth. Everything was tasty and came out fresh. Wish my broth was hotter but oh well. Plenty of other dishes to try and all were tasty. Crowded for lunch so be prepared to wait and ofc downtown philly so be prepared to walk a bit and park away. Servers were attentive so no complaints there. Highly recommended!

The service was quick and efficient minus the pleasantries. Not welcoming in the least. The pork bun was underwhelming. It had very little meat and it was just okay as seasoning. We also had the steamed pork ribs, not shown. They were also lacking flavor and were a bit grisly. The shrimp sui mai were so delicious. They were fresh and had a great flavor to them. The sautéed bok chop was also wonderful. The soup dumplings were all you could hope for in a soft, tasty bite. Overall, it was good, I just would not order the ribs or the large bun again.

Always love it here! Better for smaller groups since the portions aren't huge (compared to some other dim sum places in the city) and it's small. Fresh and delicious food. Incredibly affordable as well, so if you're like me and like to get a lot of variety of food, it's very feasible to do here without spending an arm and a leg. Service is fine, they get everyone in and out pretty quick. Not overly talkative but I don't mind that. Love this place :)

This dim sum restaurant is perfect for those who want to have a delicious dim sum without dealing with hailing dim sum carts with employees who usually don't speak English well. A lot of affordable dim sum items to pick with descriptions in English. You just mark what you like on the piece of paper provided. Tea: several kinds of tea to pick. It's per person and only $1 or $1.50 for a pot. I definitely recommend it. My favorite items are stuffed eggplants and the signature wonton soup. The broth is perfect comfort food for a cold winter day. Bok choy isn't overcooked and it is fresh Scallion pancake is too greasy.

Really solid dim sum spot in Philly's Chinatown. We came on a Saturday afternoon and had no problem getting seated. Service was quick and friendly, and the space itself feels cozy and welcoming. The food came out fast, tasted authentic, and hit all the right notes. Exactly what you want from a dim sum restaurant. Highly recommend and I'll definitely be back!

It's been years since I've visited the original Nom Wah in New York because every time I stop by there's an hour long line. It's that good. So I was pleasantly surprised to find they've slowly started expanding to other locations like this one in Philly. The great news is their dim sum is just as good as the dim sum in New York... and the OG egg roll is something you shouldn't miss. So glad I was able to stop on by and grab a quick dinner without having to wait in line!

Cute place! It is small, and we went on a friday evening- it was popping. The food came out quickly. It was pretty good, and pretty affordable! Service was ok too!

I went here for a quick dinner before a concert with my boyfriend and we were very satisfied. The service was quick and easy, and the food was good portions, good prices and very tasty. We shared every plate and it everything hit the spot. Will definitely come back next time I'm in Philly!

I took my boyfriend here for the first time, and he loved it. He appreciates that the menu has pictures of every dish. There are so many varieties of dim sum to choose from. Everything is wonderful and tasty, with big portions and reasonable prices. I like their sauce and hot chili oil a lot; they are sweet and a bit spicy. A must order is the pork bun and the original egg roll. So good. Inside is a bit dark, but cozy with varieties of teas and wines decor. The service is excellent, and the food comes out quickly. The lady there is very nice and accommodating. We will definitely be back to try more from the dim sum menu.

Nom Wah is a great find for dim sum that's not located in the hustle and bustle of Chinatown, but a little outside of the area. There isn't ever a wait to sit inside, with plenty of room for groups of all sizes. The servers are very quick at Nom Wah, offering the menu to order off the large entree menu or to order dim sum. My little one constantly asks to come back here and gobbles up everything we order, including new food to try! We've had the shrimp dumplings, scallion pancakes, sesame balls, shrimp balls, taro cakes, shrimp rice wrapper, and so many more dumplings that were all delicious! The food comes out fast and hot and there are great portions for the prices-per-serving.

I am spoiled with so many delicious dim sum spots back home in Southern California, I did not expect to be so impressed by dim sum in Philadelphia. Dare I say, Nom Wah is one of the BEST dim sum experiences I have ever had where every dish ordered was delicious. My coworker also said that this was her favorite meal during our time in Philly also. What a treat! There is a discount on the meal if you pay with cash, but I like that they still accept credit card. The difference wasn't too bad. For instance our card total was $46.28, and the cash total was $44.50 all prior to tip. The difference probably helps the business pay for the credit card charges from the banks. Anyways, back to what's important, THE FOOD! Yum. I'm so glad my coworker was cool about sharing food. We tackled the ordering strategically and shared everything. Tie Guanyin ($2.08) - Tea is only $1/person with the purchase of dim sum. We also had our eyes on the Shui Hisen or Water Fairy Tea but they were out of it so we went with this Tie Guanyin, the Iron Buddha Tea, which is a dark green oolong tea from Fujian province. The tea was delicious and went perfectly with our meal. Great deal! Pork Siu Mai ($5.98) - Huge, tasty and juicy siu mai. I really enjoyed it. Spicy Wontons ($6.19) - Comes with 5 wontons and I was weirded out they served the sauce on the side so it didn't combine like other places I've seen it. I prefer it served together but it was still delicious. Chicken Soup Dumplings ($5.46) - Love myself a good old xiao long bao. They did not serve it with the thin ginger slices and vinegar but it was still delicious and soupy. Be careful of burning yourself. Pan-Fried Turnip Cake ($5.72) - Nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was a nice bland foundation to enjoy everything else with. It was my coworker's first time trying turnip cake and really enjoyed it too. Scallion Pancakes ($5.46) - Thin light and flakey, and impressively not oily at all. One of the best scallion pancakes I have had. Seasonal Vegetable: Chinese Broccoli ($11.96) - Probably the biggest splurge of the things we ordered but I needed some vegetables and I'm glad my coworker agreed. Some of the greens were like half cut or barely cut. I think they scissor through and not that well through either. But still delicious! What a feast!! And not to mention it was all so affordable in this economy for 2 people to eat to their heart's content. If I lived in Philly I can see myself being a regular here. Until next time!

(Note: if you only want smaller serving of their great, thick noodles, order $4 add-on as a side in place of rice with regular dish.) I always have leftovers to enjoy at home. Dumpling orders are large and shareable. (Always 6 or 8 pieces.) My fave when dining in is amazingly delicious and huge Fish Fillet in Hot and Sour Cabbage Broth. (That's best with rice side to help absorb broth.) So good and healthful to balance the dough density of whatever dumplings you might also order -- they're all great. When getting order to go (or delivered) I like Kung Pao Chicken; it travels well. This place immediately came to mind after I read the reviews, and I ordered takeout tonight. I am very pleased to say that this was an amazing experience! I opted to do fairly simple dim sum, mainly because a restaurant that has "dim sum" in its name should shine in this category. I was able to place my order online, and had the scallion pancake, the pork, soup, dumplings, the chicken and shiitake dumplings, and the shrimp shu mai. The order was prepared, extremely fast, but very attentively. The packaging was thoughtful and protective, without being wasteful. They included a small container of delicious black vinegar/soy for dipping, and some chopsticks. All of the dishes were fantastic! My favorite was probably the shrimp dumplings, and I was happy that it was two for one night. Everything tasted very fresh and well-made. The seasoning was spot on, without being overly salty. My only regret was that after going to pick these up, I noted that the inside of the establishment appeared to be quite quaint and comfortable, and would definitely recommend that people check this place out for dine in options. The staff were very friendly, and made the pick up experience a positive one. So, if you're in the area and really want to have some dim sum, I would definitely recommend this place. I will most definitely be back in the future!!

The shrimp lo mein is comfort done right: soft, chewy noodles, well-seared shrimp, and a sauce that coats rather than drowns. And a new favorite is the egg custard--silky and softly set, lightly sweet.

I regrettably went on Valentines with my boyfriend after the Barnes. My food was so bad that my mood was negatively impacted (seriously). Stay away from any of the soups/ramens, the broth is exactly the same flavorless base for every soup. I'd stick with appetizers. I got the worst thing I've ever ordered at a restaurant here: Tom Kha Seafood Soup, it was supposed to be spicy but it was just sweet with no flavor at all. Nothing like any other Asian spicy seafood soups I've had before, lacking any normal amount of seafood (hardly any), and weird uncooked veggies, like huge sliced raw tomato bits. I ate the small amount of seafood out of it and left the rest. It was hardly edible. The scallion pancakes were also the most underwhelming I've ever had. I usually fight for the last piece but me and my boyfriend left half of it uneaten. No flavor or crisp. Seemed frozen and reheated, not fresh. The soup dumplings were the only good thing we ordered and they were just fine, nothing amazing. Additionally, there was a very small amount of them to our order. The Vietnamese beef soup was ok but very below average, nothing good that I'd recommend ordering, same bland broth. I really wanted to like this place and I usually never give out one star reviews, but it was truly bad and the ratings on it are clearly inflated and not reflective of its food quality. Small amounts of bad food for a price you could get much better things elsewhere. I'd rather have gone to Wawa than gone here (and I did after because I was still hungry).
