I went here solo a few days ago after the normal lunch hour and upon entering I had the entire restaurant to myself so that meant I had free pickings on where to sit, which is always nice. They have full booth seating which was comfy and my food came out pretty fast. I ordered the 2 fish/1 chicken tender combo that also comes with fries with a side order of hush puppies. Condiments of tartar sauce, ketchup and ranch which were also given with the food and were in plentiful bottles so I had no worries of running out. They do have vinegar but you have to request it. Everything came out *hot*, so my food was made fresh which was great. The fish portions were huge, crunchy and tasty. The fries were not over salted or mushy either, a plus. The only not-as-great part was the chicken tender: it didn't taste bad or anything but compared to the fish and the batter it was fried in it just couldn't compare. The hush puppies were a little over cooked I think as their outsides were very dark but I don't mind the extra crunch. They tasted good either way with the tartar sauce! I left full and satisfied, so I think this place is a solid spot for when I need a fish n' chips craving scratched. FYI refills from the drink fountain are not free (an extra .25 cents each), but they do have canned/bottled drinks behind the counter you can also choose from if you like. read more

After reading some previous reviews, I guess I'm not as picky with fish & chips as many others lol. I dig the fish & chips here; enjoyed the light crispy coating of the fish batter (albeit it is a bit bland but that's nothing some malt vinegar can't fix) and the chips are nice and crunchy. Very huge fish pieces by the way.....checked out after 1.5 pieces. Loved the friendly family business vibe here. Seems like some customers are regulars based on seeing some customer-staff interaction here and it was really sweet seeing the cashier lady going around the counter and helping out a customer when the customer dropped his walking cane. Yeah, there isn't A/C in this small place, but something tells me that them having 5 large fans blasting at once here makes me think that they actually looked into installing an actual A/C system but it can't be done for whatever reason lol. I docked a star because the interior decor could use some updating; we're talking about on-the-wall pictures that developed the murky green-yellow tint. Not really pleasing to see. I decided to check this place out because I was craving fish and chips. I lived in Elk Grove for majority of my life but I never tried this spot. I came in around 3:00pm and was immediately greeted by the cashier and a lady who I believe is the owner. They were both very kind and friendly. The customer service was awesome. Ran across this hidden gem when I was doing some shopping in Elk Grove. The food is delicious and the customer service was great. They give you bottles of tartar sauce, ketchup, and cocktail sauce if you dine in. I got the fish and shrimp platter, which comes with 1 piece of fish, 4 large shrimp, and fries. These pictures were taken AFTER I gave feedback about toilet paper almost gone, soap dispenser not working, toilet bowl being so very dirty (YUCKS!), and stream of water from sink is so small one can hardly wash their hands properly. This place is definitely a local fave. Every time we've come in, it seems to have neighborhood folks looking for good, simple fare. I'd been craving fish and chips so Yelp came to rescue by suggesting this place. First time we came in for fish and chips, we were blown away by the fish. It was so light and not greasy at all. For a small restaurant, you also do not come out smelling like fried foods. Next time we can in for fish, prawns and fried mushrooms. Once again, the fish was a huge hit. The prawns were okay. They were kinda small and more batter than prawns. The mushrooms were a disappointment. There wasn't much flavor to them. We tried a couple of fish and chip eateries and Ocean Fish was our fave for fish. Service is attentive and fast. The gentleman at the counter is always super nice and friendly. The only bummer is that soda refills aren't free and there are no substitutions. If you want something other than their posted menu, you have to pay for each item a la carte, which can get pricey. read more

I'm not a "foody", nor have I been to England. However, the fish and chips are great to my mind. Not greasy, well fried with a very nice light white fish flavor. Quantities served are generous. Chips are good of course but I suppose hard to ruin those. The cole slaw is great as well. Well done for a side dish. It's a local store, with great hours for after work or even lunch, although we only go there to grab dinner and bring home. Ok, so I can't exactly say how good Long John Silvers fish and fries are, but growing up it truly was my favorite. Even now as an adult it is tasty in all of its oily glory, but now I have so many more options and need something better suited to my adult palate. I order a family sized order and get all the fixings. I Alf expected for the breading to be too crumbly and not flavorful. To my surprise, it is just as tasty as my childhood favorite, just a. Lot less grease. I'm in heaven! My kids gobbled up the coleslaw so fast I never got a taste of it. *sad frowney face*. My wife and I love dining out. Sometimes we're in the mood to dress up and dine at a "fancy" restaurant and sometimes we prefer to grab our food to-go and eat in the comfort of our home. Whenever we want to stick to watching a Netflix show while consuming a delicious meal, Ocean Fish & Chips is usually our go-to. If I could accurately describe Ocean Fish & Chips, I would say that it reminds me of a family owned version of Long John Silver's (which are dang near extinct). The portions of the food are generous and the food is consistently good. Since we are sometimes creatures of habit, my wife and I usually order two orders of the fish and prawns (with an extra fish added to each order). On one specific night, my wife and I had a last minute craving for fish and chips. Last minute meaning that we picked up the phone and placed our order to-go at 8:10pm (Ocean Fish & Chips closes at 8:30pm). I generally dislike being the inconsiderate person that places a last minute order; however, we had a huge craving for fish & chips. When I placed the order, the woman that assisted me was extremely friendly and did not rush me as I placed the order. Ten minutes later I arrived to pick up our order. I was warmly greeted by the owners and instructed that my food would be ready in five minutes. While I waited, noticing that I had ordered a kid's meal in addition to our traditional order(s), one of the owners proceeded to ask me about my son. I point this out for two reasons: one being that her attitude did not indicate that they were closing soon (no hurried mopping or rushing to turn off the "open" sign) and the other being that she took the time to genuinely inquire about the age and recent milestones of my six year old (after realizing that I had placed an order for a kid's meal). We have never had a bad experience at Ocean Fish & Chips, we are always satisfied with both the customer service and the food. However, we have one small gripe (I think "gripe" sounds a lot better than "complaint")....their fries can use an overhaul. I'm not quite sure if it's the fries or the oil that the fries are cooked in, but they have absolutely no taste (unless you season them at home). I suggest that the owner's consider implementing an option for customers to purchase either garlic fries or seasoned fries. Other than that, we are happy customers and look forward to our next visit! read more

This is a modest-looking place in Old Town Elk Grove, just East of the Library. I'm not sure why I don't go here every week. The fried fish is always perfectly cooked with a very crispy fried batter. The fries are very good, too. They have a very good range of seafood and sides, from calamari and prawns, to coleslaw and hushpuppies. Three pieces of fish with chips is enough for two people, or even more than enough. The tartar sauce and coleslaw are fresh and very simple, which is good. Less than $15 for takeout for 2? I'm there any time. There are a lot of combination dishes, and there are a lot of family-sized orders, too. I haven't had a sit-down meal there in a long time, though there were a few folks inside when we went to pickup. There is no website, there is no delivery service. You can order in the parking lot and wait for your food or, when you grab a menu flyer, order on the phone for pickup in 15 minutes. Fourth of July Weekend Summer 2016 We were home for a week, then back on the road again. Tahoe-bound! I searched for a restaurant in the area and my first choice was too fancy, it was a date night kind of a restaurant. My two-year old would've killed everyone 's mojo, so we decided to go to Ocean's Fish and Chips across the street. Why the heck was it so hot and stuffy inside?!?! Why don't you have AC? Or a fan? Food here is really good! I can speak to the fish, onion rings, and fried clams. My family and I enjoyed all of it. All very crispy and seasoned well. I ordered the 12pc fish and they gave a couple extras. It was a little pricy but definitely worth it. I wish they had more tarter sauce, especially since we ordered the 12pc. I didn't feel like paying the extra though lol. Lady at the front was really nice when she got to me but it took a while since she works phones, counter, and serving. Crispy, hot, flaky fish awaited me when I arrived to my desk this afternoon after picking up my to-go order. I recently started working in Elk Grove and this place is everything fish and chips should be, the friendly customer service is a bonus. I ordered the one-piece fish combo, which comes with chips, and the order came out quickly and with a smile. I was greeted with a smile, and the owners (employees?) thanked me as I took my food. One piece of fish in addition to chips was plenty for me; the fish was huge and it was cooked perfectly. Each bite was hot, fresh, crispy, tender perfection. The fries were also cooked perfectly. I could have eaten everything, it was that good, but I left about 15 or so fries since my break was over. The to-go order was packed with tartar sauce and ketchup. Even though you'll need multiple napkins, my food was cooked with just the right amount of oil, so don't worry about getting grease all over the place because it barely leaked through the cardboard container it was in. First of all and most important this place is filthy dirty! I paid my money and had to wait about 20 minutes to get my to go order! I was able to look right into the kitchen which and preparation area which was horribly filthy! The fish and chips were bad! Fish was frozen and the chips were cooked in the same fryer as the fish! Service was terrible! Two people just stood around as an old lady did the cooking... I've filed a complaint with the Sac County Department of Health! This place needs to be shut down! read more

The calamari was the best of their improvements. Calamari was fresh and perfectly cook as in a high end seafood restaurant, as well as the huge fried mushrooms. Love this place. I work and live in the area and it's the best fish I can get on my lunch break. The service is always great, the food is delicious and I like that it's family owned and operated. The kid at the counter is pleasant and it's ALWAYS him I see in here. He's a hard worker and fairly quiet, but keeps the place clean and has great communication skills. I love the fish and clam combo meal. It's usually pretty quiet and people don't spend much time here because they're quick and delicious. I got the calamari basket, which came with fries and I couldn't tell the difference between the two in taste, I just noticed the calamari was more of a rubbery texture.
