Ocean Fish & Chips is a historic fish & chips spot serving the Sacramento community for 20+ years. I'll say that it is one of the best and most consistent fish & chips spots in Sacramento. The fish is big, light, crispy, and perfect with the ayce tartar sauce. The actual fish is a little underseasoned but that's okay sometimes and dipping in the tarter sauce fixes that. Crab cakes are frozen but very consistent and never disappoint. It's salty, crispy, and has a strong crab flavoring. The chowder tasted homemade and tasted like average chowder. read more

Food - the batter they use is amazing. The fish & prawns are fresh, the batter is light, crispy, crunchy and not the least bit oily. We had the fish & prawns which was on special for $9.99. It was totally delicious! The fries were also nice and crispy and tasted great. We also loved the cocktail sauce and tarter sauce. I can't believe they have been on this same location for 24 years and I just discovered them. Swim, peddle, walk, run or drive yourself here and grab some awesome, reasonably priced seafood in a clean, comfortable setting. The owner is so nice and clearly proud of his food and business. Great, great fish!!! My ex-wife and I have been coming to Ocean Fish and Chips for 20+ years. And from day one, it has been fantastic. What makes it so great? The chicken takes like chicken. The fries taste like fries. At other places they fry all the food in the same oil and you have fishy tasting fries/chicken. And they change the cooking oil regularly. And out of the restaurants my ex-wife have been to, we still agree this is the best place ever. And we have not agreed on a lot of things . It's a little hole in the wall place. It's not fancy. It's not trying to be more than what it is. And what is it? It's a place that has GREAT food. The owners, who seem to never leave the place, are always friendly. The lady, who never seems to age, has a glorious smile and she is so welcoming. She may struggle a little with English but she reminds me of my immigrant mother and I just want to hug her. And you can see the kitchen area. Immaculate. You can see they take pride in what they do. There are so many restaurants out there that seem to have forgetten that the food they "cook" should be of the highest quality, cooked with care and served with pride. And sure you can get that kind of service and food at most high-end restaurants. But guess what? You don't have spend half your check to get that kind of care from Ocean Fish and Chips. The quest for the best fish and chips continues ... I've been to Ocean Fish & Chips a couple of times. The first time I was impressed. The second time, meh, not as much. Prices are pretty reasonable, and the serving size is generous. The first time, everything tasted fresh, not greasy, and the tarter sauce was on point. My second visit I found the food to be greasy, and tasted like the fryer oil needed to be changed. I'm hopeful that it was an isolated situation. They offer family meals, which are reasonably priced, and can be combined with other seafood items. Craving shrimp, yep, they've got it. Their seafood sauce is pretty tasty too. I love that they're family owned, and they are the nicest people that I've encountered as of late. Parking is plentiful and free. They're definitely "cheap eats" which is hard to find these days. Best Fish & Chips in Sactown! The Tugboat fish & chips place in Antelope closest to my home had closed for good. We tried Ocean Fish & Chips and we had a 5-Star experience here. We arrived 40 mins to closing time and was greeted by a sweet lady. We placed our orders at the counter. They have a wide variety of fish dinners: prawns, oysters, calamari, clam, catfish, red snapper as well as deep fried vegetables, chicken, hamburgers and teriyaki... there's something for every palate. My eyes (and tummy) got excited looking at the menu and I just wanted to order everything! One at a time, though, daughter and I each had the 2-pc fish & chips, hubby had the beef teriyaki w/ rice. We dined in. Our meals were served at our table. Wow! the fish were huge compared to our once favorite fish & chips place that closed. Fresh fried fish with batter that was crispy and light, not oily. Everything was delicious except I still like the tartar sauce from our favorite old place. Craving as I pen this review. They are closed on Sundays. Nice, bright and very clean midsized dining room located in the Arden area. This place feels like a total hidden gem unless I've just been living under a rock?! I got their signature fish and chips plus their calamari basket. The crispiness of the batter is just so well done that I'm salivating thinking about it while writing this review. I also got their krabby cake which was delicious, but unfortunately for the price of one, I might not get it again. The staffs are super nice and gave a little box for all of the to go items. Swim, don't walk, to Ocean Fish & Chips for some of the best fish and chips in Sacramento. This unassuming location on Fulton and Cottage - next to the auto parts store - does really good fried seafood. The restaurant has a small amount of indoor seating with takeout and delivery options available. Parking is decent with a small shared parking lot. The menu is pretty extensive with all the items you would expect in a chip shop. You can get fish, prawns, scallops, hushpuppies, clams, and others. On my trip, I got the daily special which included one piece of fish and 4 prawns with fries. Prices are reasonable given the quality and quantity of the food. My order was filled surprisingly fast with a smile and delivered to the table with condiments. I am guessing a husband wife combo running the show who both deserve a bow! The food was exactly what you would want. The fish was served hot in a medium batter - enough to have those delicious fried batter crisps and not enough to be a Twinkie. The prawns had a similar fry. The fries were also very good with a great crisp and fluffy interior. My basket was served right from the fryer, so it was very hot and needed a bit to cool. They served malt vinegar, ketchup, tartar sauce, and cocktail sauce. Even the condiments were really good! The interior of the restaurant is old and basic, but very clean. The posters of fish on the wall remind me of the old fish and chip shop at the old Downtown Plaza shopping mall right next to the movie theatre. You could probably get the order to go as it will likely stay warm on a short drive. Hard to think of much wrong with Ocean Fish & Chips. It is ranked high for a reason. If you are looking for good old school fried seafood, head on over and dock here for a while. read more

My first time here. The fish and fries were very good. Both needed just a little sprinkle of salt. Zucchini was very yummy. Coleslaw was sweet and yummy. I removed one sta for the chowder. I asked if he used cream, milk, or powdered milk. He said cream., so I tried it since I wanted a cream base. It was terrible. If they use cream, it definitely is only a tablespoon or two.
