I was in Clearwater for the long weekend and am more than happy that I chose to visit this restaurant the night before we left. Portion sizes were perfect - plenty of food served, not sure what another reviewer was thinking. This restaurant had some of the best food I have eaten in a long time, in terms of freshness, taste as well as presentation. We enjoyed this restaurant on a Saturday night with dinner for 6. Everyone seemed to enjoy everything that was placed in front of them. Possibly with the exception of the lobster fried rice, as one of our group nick-named it "carrot fried rice" based on the amount of carrot to lobster ratio. But our server was amazing. CeCe was her name and she totally made our whole experience with her professional attitude and the way she helped us navigate the menu from appetizer to dessert. And did I just mention dessert? Yes I did. Because it was a conversation piece. CeCe combined the two we ordered on a curved 2 level platter and threw in some Mochi for good measure. Crazy rich Asian roll was good. Lobster fried rice was okay the sauce was a little over powering. Calamari was good. We didn't get our cocktails until half way through our dinner, and besides almost getting smacked in the head from them lowering the blinds (which blocks the view of the sunset, whole point of sitting outside) restaurant was nice! Went to Ocean Hai with a group of friends after reading they made 4 diamond AAA list. Useless food! Tried chefs tasting menu and what a waste it was! Service subpar, few friends who ordered wine pairing didn't get it. Just putting quail on the menu doesn't make it fine dining! Not sure who reviewed it as 4 diamonds. Ocean Hai has great atmosphere. We walked in and were welcomed to one of their nicest rooms, considering we had 14 guests. Our waiter Gene was very sweet and helpful! All of us ordered appetizers, we got the blackened sea salt edamame, compressed watermelon, waygu beef carpaccio, and complimentary crab bites compliments of the house. The crab bites were delicious, and there was a delicious sauce with it. I ate three of them!! the edamame was nothing special but is a good appetizer to share with large groups. The waygu beef carpaccio was absolutely delicious, and i mean seriously tear worthy. The compressed watermelon was interesting, definitely not like anything i had eaten before. It almost tasted carbonated? But it was definitely delicious. I ordered the wild organic salmon. It came on a beg of mushrooms and lo mein. The salmon was delicious but the Lo Mein was a little too salty. It was hard to finish because of how salty it was. My sister ordered the Thai coconut curry cauliflower rice. It was very spicy, and I have a high tolerance for spice. And while it was spicy it simultaneously had no flavor. Then again i've never had any cauliflower rice that really had any flavor. My grandparents got the Korean short rib and thought it was great. My cousin got the pork belly ramen, and raves about it. I tried some and I'm a little. it of a ramen snob so I thought it wasn't the best i've ever had but for someone's first ramen it was great. We got desert, I got the cherry blossom which smelled so good but the chocolate was underwhelming and the mousse wasn't very flavorful. the cherries were yummy and the cotton candy pleased all the kids! We got some great mochi, and the pandan sundae was yummy. Overall, 4 stars, worth the $$$! Just know what meals to get. read more

Came here for my 30th birthday, from the moment we stepped in all the staff was friendly and accommodating. The appetizers where incredible, great cocktails as well. My wife informed them that I was vegan and the waitress and chef made it a point to ensure everything including the desert was specially made to meet my dietary preference. Order Togo during our vacation at the beach. We ordered an appetizer, sushi roll, ramen, lobster fried rice, and a dessert. Food is okay, fried rice is a little on the salty side. I don't like how they pack the ramen. Everywhere I order ramen, they give put the ramen in a big bowl so you can pour the broth in and eat it. Here they put in a paper container, how am I suppose to eat it at a hotel? So inconvenient. Food is overpriced too. Portion is really tiny for the price. This place has tasteful decor and tasty food. The chicken potstickers were amazing, as were the the spring rolls. The spring rolls were perfectly crispy without being oily at all. The adobo chicken pho was yummy, but the lobster fried rice was disappointing. It was too sweet, the lobster was slightly over cooked..it needed some salt and spice. Wonderful date night. We live locally. This was our first visit. Watermelon salad, a sushi roll, a filet, and some sea bass. All were great. Freshness of salad stood out. My significant other and I went to celebrate Christmas Eve there as it was a place we both had been wanting to try for some time. I have to say it was quite an overall disappointment. First the positives.. the place itself had a comfortable ambience and wasn't overly loud for it being full. The service was decent. Now as for the negatives.. the food was not good. They brought out a plate of complimentary edamame which I thought was not an elegant choice at all. The appetizers and main dish which were not cheap was way below average in taste. Not flavorful at all for neither one of us. The kicker was the 19% added gratuity fee which you had to pay wether you wanted to or not. No discussion on it ahead of time or any heads up. We were very upset on that to add to the disappointment. Totally not worth the money. My recommendation is go to Frenchys down the beach. It's a typical beach bistro, priced a lot less, but you'll definitely get much better tasting food!! read more

While in Clearwater this is a must stop. The servers are extremely friendly and on top of it but the food is wonderful. I recommend the Wagyu Beef appetizer because it was prepared to where the flavor was so amazing it melted in my mouth. First, the atmosphere of the restaurant is amazing. Very clean, beautiful, and an amazing view of the beach (especially at Sunset). My wife and I ordered the following: Mongolian Meatballs (5/5), Gulf Grouper (3.5/5), and Surf and Turf (3.5/5). Edamame is served lightly seasoned and is a fantastic start for the dishes. The Mongolian Meatballs were absolutely delicious. They were reminiscent of an egg roll in flavor, but were absolutely incredible. The Gulf Grouper was actually fairly good. However, the grouper itself was not seasoned as well as we would have enjoyed. The same can be said for the Surf and Turf. The scallops that were served with the dish were great when enjoyed with the sauce placed around the dish, but alone, they lacked seasoning. John was our waiter and he deserves a 10/5 for being absolutely incredible. We were enjoying an anniversary dinner and he was very personable. He was able to answer any questions we had regarding the menu and made fantastic suggestions. He was present but did not make us feel that he was watching our every move. Toward the end of our meal, he asked us to stay a little longer. To our surprise, we were served an amazing citrus/mango ice cream and the plate read "Happy Anniversary" with chocolate sauce. This little act really showed that he wanted us to enjoy ourselves and truly wanted to make the experience worthwhile. My recommendation to any wishing to go, please request John as your server. We tried to dine here while staying at the Wyndham Grand last week. The hotel was fabulous but we waited for 10-15 minutes after being seated outside on the patio and no one ever came to our table. We decided to go somewhere else and let the hostess know on the way out. She said she could take care of us if we wanted to sit in the lobby but we were really looking to sit outdoors near the beach. Interestingly, no one apologized for never getting to us or for the not-the-greatest experience either. This place is beautiful. The staff was quick and responsive. The food was too salty for our taste. We ordered the duck breast and the scallops with pork belly. The duck breast lacked consistency. The first few pieces were ok but the last 3 pieces were too salty and a little more burnt on the skin. The scallops tasted fresh and delicious but the pork belly is a fail. Pork belly is known for its skin and all you taste in this dish is fat. The food didn't come hot either. It was warm at least?! They weren't busy since we came in at 6:30pm on a weekday. Oh they gave a complimentary edamame plate with a wonton ragoon which was unexpected and pretty good! Overall, I wouldn't come back because of the price and quality of the food. I could find better food for less than half what we paid in my hometown of Greenville, SC. The decoration is so pretty though! read more

We celebrated my wife's birthday dinner here and it was the most wonderful experience. Very courteous, friendly and knowledgeable staff that took great care of us the entire time. The view is breathtaking as we watched the sun set into the gulf just as our appetizer arrived. The food was spot on delicious and cooked to perfection. Don't waste your time. There are so many other restaurants in Clearwater to choose from. I had the filet and my husband had the sushi. He said he had better sushi from a grocery store! He was very disappointed. I had the filet it was ok, was tender no char on it which I like. Almost seemed like it was baked. Ordered it medium and it was well. Not enough demi to dip my steak in. The bone marrow was so salty I couldnt eat it. Although the service was wonderful it was not worth $105.00 dollar tab with no drinks. The restaurant adds a 19 percent gratuity to the bill automatically. Don't appreciate a restaurant deciding my tip for me. No incentive for the wait staff. We won't be back!! read more

If I could give this restaurant 0 stars I would. I was not able to experience eating here due to poor management and the hostess. I was told the wait time was 45 minutes to get a table without a reservation. I was added to their waitlist and 45 minutes came and went. When my husband inquired after an hour, they said we didn't make a reservation and there wasn't space for us. Why would a restaurant tell a pregnant woman they would have availability if that simply isn't the case? They definitely lost my business and any future recommendations. read more

The Short List: Atmosphere: A+ Food: A+ Service: A+ Overall: A+ This was hands down our best dining experience during a recent trip to Clearwater Beach, FL for spring break. I'd recommend a reservation, as after 7PM on a Friday, they were turning away walk-ins. We had a 6:30PM reservation and elected to sit inside. The decor is gorgeous. I love the open-kitchen concept, and depending on where you are seating, you can see the chef and staff taking care of business. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and polite. Our drinks were delicious and arrived quickly. The "Maui Mule" arrives in a large copper pineapple-shaped chalice. A bowl of complementary edamame is served with the meal, and these were amazing yet simple - and this is coming from a guy who does not care much for edamame. My dining partner and I polished off the whole thing. Yum! I ordered the filet, rare. The accompanying piece of bone marrow is a great compliment to the lean filet. The Asian fusion part of this dish meant that it came on a bed of forbidden rice with shiitake mushrooms. While I would have preferred a more traditional vegetable and potatoes type of thing, I was pleasantly surprised with how well everything went together. It was all delicious. My dining partner ordered the Asian Sea Bass. The fish sat atop, again, forbidden rice, and was complimented with shiitake mushrooms and sugar snap peas. The fish was perfectly cooked, was tender yet delicate, and had tremendous flavor. Her dish was simply amazing and she did not stop talking about this meal for the remainder of the trip. Our only regret about this restaurant is that we did not come back for a second time during our trip. It far exceeded our expectations and was the highlight of our trip - as far as dining experiences go. We will be sure to return next time we find ourselves in the Clearwater area and will recommend to friends and family. Side note: Yes - this establishment does add a 19% service charge (gratuity) to all bills. I elected to add an additional 2% tip to my bill, as I make a habit of tipping 20% or more when I dine - and our service here was outstanding. However, the menu states very clearly that you may speak to your server to have the charge waived if you have an issue with it. I'm not sure why other yelpers have seemed to make such a big deal out of it. read more
