We tried Crabby's because it was close to our hotel. They were packed so we asked about the bar being first come first serve, and it was. We headed to the 3rd floor and had the best bartender, Erika. She recommend some dishes and took the best care of us as we celebrated my birthday. This was my first experience with Crabby's! I was in town to drop my oldest son off at USF for his freshman year. It had been a busy day of shopping and setting up his dorm room. Since I'd be leaving the next day, I had promised him a steak dinner somewhere nice, but the day got away from us, and we also wanted to touch the beach while he still had a car to get there easily. It was his first time to touch the beautiful white sands of the Gulf and to feel the warm water...watching that alone was a treat for me. We are from Oregon, our beaches are cold, the water is colder, and the sand is volcanic and coarse. We lingered. We watched the sun sizzle into the sea. We weren't in a hurry, especially with these last moments before I have to leave one of my most prized people behind...so far from 'home'. We lingered long enough that getting back to Tampa for that steak dinner would have been far too late, so we wandered up the beach just looking for a place that might have a couple of steak options...by this time, I had decided on seafood...because let's be honest, one should never buy a steak at a seafood restaurant. However, he had his heart set on a steak...so steak it was...medium rare. Stephanie was our waitress, and an attentive one at that. Because it was a special occasion, we started with the Coconut Lobster Bites that were divine...so sweet and succulent, that coconut really brought out the flavor of the lobster. I had a Dockside Punch that was amazing. The sweet tea was less sweet than I was used to (I may live in Oregon now, but I grew up in Alabama). I had the blackened Grouper and Gulf Shrimp...nothing better in this world...and they were FANTASTIC! The only let down...was the cook on the steak. He ordered the tenderloin. It was tender, it was as flavorful as a tenderloin could be (15 years as a meat cutter and you get very strong opinions about various cuts of steak...I only eat ribeyes...which weren't on the menu :) ). But it was the cook. I should have recommended he order it rare because when you get into some of these less specialized restaurants, the difference between medium rare and medium, medium well is a little gray...especially with a quick cooking cut like a tenderloin. Nonetheless, the steak showed up medium well to well. It was edible, my son, is a kind, complacent soul, so he was ok. I've spent far too many years in the service industry...I rarely say anything. Stephanie asked, and I admitted we were the ones who ordered steak in a seafood shack...so it's kinda on us being steak snobs, but I just asked her to let the cook know he needs to shorten his cooking time. No big deal, I don't want any discounts or free desserts...just advice for the cook. Well...she took it to the manager and then I had to talk to the manager, which was as kind and jovial as it was with Stephanie, but he was insistent to make it right. I finally succumbed to us splitting the difference, which was fair...I mean come on, he still ate the meal...nothing went to waste. The salad was fresh, the fries were hot, the steak was tasty...only 3-4 minutes between a perfect steak and a good steak. The food was great. The service was fantastic. The atmosphere was lively and popping. I would highly recommend this beachside location for anyone looking for seafood with a lively beach vibe. If you want steak, I'd still recommend it for that one person not into seafood...just maybe order it a degree below your desired level of doneness. Just to be safe :) These people do customer service right, even when you insist it's not necessary. That's the kind of place I want to give my money to! Been to a few Crabby's - all were nice but this location was cool looking over the marina. Standard family-friendly seafood joint with pretty good prices. As regular readers know I'm vegetarian, and I really liked the Portobello Tacos. The Portobello Sandwich is also quite good. This location had a good bartender who knew what they were doing; not always the case with this style of place. And judging from the amount of seafood dishes the rest of my family inhaled and the way in which they all kept wanting to return, the fish must be quite good. If you're a seafood lover, this place is a must-try! The Boom Boom Shrimp was crispy, flavorful, and tossed in the perfect sweet-and-spicy sauce. The crab legs were fresh, meaty, and seasoned just right--easy to crack and packed with flavor. Everything came out hot, and the portions were generous. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was laid-back, and it's definitely a spot I'll be coming back to when I'm craving seafood. This was exactly what you would expect for a restaurant on the beach. A little over hyped but you can't beat the location. We tried a sampling of several items from the appetizer menu. All were good but nothing truly stood out. While the server was kind, one person to run the entire bar area on a busy Saturday evening over the summer felt like a poor management decision. Our drinks sat empty, some of our food was forgotten, and we had to give a couple reminders. My wife & I had a wonderful experience dining on the 3rd floor at the bar during a beautiful sunset. Frank was our bartender/waiter who not only made great food recommendations but made great cocktails(dirty gin martini & Long Island ice tea. The Ceviche that was shared as an appetizer was out of this world. And we both enjoyed the clam chowder soup & dozen oysters(3 ways. THANK YOU TARA! Food was outstanding. I wanted to try the Jonah Crab Claw meal, but found that retrieving the meat from them was not as easy as I'd have expected - and I'm an avid crableg eater. The meat I was able to get didn't taste any more remarkable than stone crab, snow crab, king crab, etc. While I'm sure someone out there will love these, I regretted my decision within 5 minutes. I told our waitress, Tara, and she immediately offered to bring me a crab leg entre with shrimp to make up the difference in cost. One of the kitchen employees brought my new entre out to me, and Tara made sure I was completely satisfied with the money I spent. They didn't have to do this, some places out there wouldn't have. The Jonah Crab Claws were exactly what they were supposed to be - I just didnt like them. They made it right with us anyways. The first time I visited this establishment was in 2018. I was in Clearwater for a dear friend's wedding, but I had a good bit of downtime. One Sunday, I posted up here for awhile and I loved every second. The building lended itself to AMAZING beach views and I relished watching the day fishermen on group trips walk in with bags of grouper filets. Accordingly, I made myself a promise that I'd ultimately break: the next time I visited, I wanted to do so, after a half day fishing trip. I popped into Crabby's for oysters and dip on an impromptu trip to Clearwater. They were pretty busy but I was able to grab a seat at the bar. I loved the views of the beach and the open air set up. I did not love my food. The Crabbyfellar oysters weren't done and the dip wasn't hot. I took the dip to go with hopes of heating it up back at my hotel. I didn't tell my server that my oysters were undercooked because they were pretty busy and I didn't think anything of it. But I ended up getting pretty sick that night and the only thing I'd had was the oysters and a bite of dip. I threw away the dip, just to be on the safe side. read more

The alternative options were super delicious, we had the beer battered fish and chips which was absolutely delicious and the crab-cakes and lobster coconut bites. All options were great. Last week we were in Clearwater Beach staying near the marina so decided to try out Crabby's since it was within walking distance. It's got outside and inside seating and inside is 3 levels. We initially elected to go to the 3rd floor. It's open air and it was cold outside due to the cold front so it was not comfortable sitting there. Additionally there was not a very good odor inside there for whatever reason. We elected to move down to the 2nd level, warmer and no odor. I ordered a combination plate that included Mahi and skewered grilled shrimp and my wife ordered the Coconut Shrimp. Both came with salad. Both plates tasted very good, service was good as well. Other than the 3rd floor issues, nothing bad to say. I recommend trying Crabby's. read more

OMGosh! We are going to crave this place ALL DAY when we're back home in California. We were on vacation in Clearwater and yelped a good lunch place after a fun beach day. We were starving, tired and hot! This was one of the closest restaurants and since we were walking, we chose it just so that we could get there quickly. What a great place! They quickly sat us indoors upstairs since we wanted the AC to cool us down. The server was so friendly and helpful with the menu. She took her time answering our questions and gave us great suggestions. I had never had Grouper and she assured me I would love it. She was right! I ordered it blackened with a side of fries. We also ordered the Boom Boom shrimp tacos. WOW! I'm still dreaming about those puppies. Insanely delicious and fresh. The best shrimp tacos I've ever had by far. The crab legs were the highlight for the rest of my peeps. They were in heaven. All of the sides were amazing as well. It was a fabulous meal and we rolled out of there right back onto the beach and into the ocean. We were thrilled that we didn't sink after such a full belly;) If you're a tourist, look no further! Crabby's Dockside never disappoints! This was another fantastic visit, we sat on the second floor, which has A/C (a huge plus in the Florida heat), and it was cool and comfortable the entire time. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and handled our party of 9 with ease. Drinks stayed full, orders were correct, and she kept everything running smoothly with a smile. This time, I decided to switch things up and go with the chicken tacos instead of seafood, and I'm glad I did. They were packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. This review is solely based off of my experience with takeout. I would go back to sit down to see if anything was different. Okay so we went on a Saturday night so expected it to be busy and it was however that is no reason for us to have waited over an hour for our food, and that was just while at the restaurant. This isn't counting the time we waiting to drive, park, and walk there. And for the amount of time we did wait, we expected the food to be better. Was it bad? No, but not as good as we'd hoped but again, this was takeout so maybe it was better for sitting down. Going back to the parking, if you've never been in this area it gets real busy real fast. It's right across from the pier. There is some parking provided in lots but isn't necessarily free. Drink wise we did one of the buckets which was plenty to share and you could taste the alcohol which we didn't expect. Food wise we got the calamari, oysters 3 ways, and key lime pie. The calamari was alright, oysters were good, but didn't care for the pie. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience and like I said, I would go back to see if it'd be better sitting down. read more

Got Grouper?! Man o Man- let me tell ya... this place was absolutely perfect and hit the spot! Since being in Florida, I've been craving for some fried Grouper. I've had it a few years ago, and just haven't been able to find any until hitting the East coast. And it certainly lived up to my craving expectations! My wife and I came here with my 2yr. old Grandbud, right after a trip to the Florida Aquarium. I wanted to take him on the white sandy beach of Clearwater, and took the opportunity to feed the lil' Squid Squirt. We ordered the Fried Grouper, Shrimp, and Calamari and shiver me timbers- it was rock cod solid!! The fries were perfect, and while we waited, the waitress gave us extra fries to munch on. Grams and I ordered the Coconut Mojito and I'll be damned if Tom cruise didn't shake shake shake shake it himself! One heck of a Cocktail. First time ever having a coconut flavor, and you can bet your crabby a$$ that's all I'll be asking for from here on out. All in all, we had a fabulous meal, our server was most patient with us and a somewhat Crabby Grandbud, and it gave us an opportunity to cool our jets for a moment. The main reason I picked this place was to see the sunset and seafood. Drinks and service were great. We ordered crab and spinach dip and avocado egg rolls to start. This was delicious. I ordered mah hai grilled sandwiches and fries and fish was a bit dry. My cousin got salad and grilled chicken on it and rum bucket. Had a table of 8 for a Saturday afternoon and they were able to seat us right away on the roof top. Service was slow but it worked out cause it had a great view. Everything we ordered was absolutely divine and I would go back again and try something else. I ordered the hogfish snapper and it was cooked to perfect the flavor was gourmet. Amazing, seriously amazing. While it took quite a while to be seated even with a reservation (sat night to be fair) it was 100000% worth the wait! Sammy (Uma) our waitress was phenomenal and such a great sales woman lol we started with the smoked fish dip and were blown away at how amazing it was. We both ordered the bardi crab combo and the filet was absolutely delicious! Not to mention the amazing bardi crab. I was worried Crabbys might be a "tourist trap," but boy did this place deliver! They source all their fish locally. The fish and chips were fantastic, or I think they were... It may actually have been the key lime tartar sauce. OMG! This stuff is delicious. Others got tacos and burgers and really enjoyed their meals as well. Great location just across from Pier 60.
