This restaurant was a terrible disappointment. I had my fiance's birthday lunch here. My family and I ordered the beef pho. It arrived with luke warm broth with the beef near raw and bloody. The broth is supposed to be hot enough to cook the beef, but it wasn't. The broth had zero taste. It was a very weird version of pho. We sent it back. The server told us that the chef does not like serving that dish-so why have it on the menu? The item needs to disappear from the menu because it is not it. The crab rangoons were lack luster, no flavor. The sweet chili sauce made it a bit better, I suppose. The sushi was the same-nothing special. The hoisin chicken bento box was OKAY, hence why I decided to leave a 2 star review versus 1 (though, I still feel the 2 stars is pushing it). The chicken and veggies were decent. It is definitely not good enough to cause me to return or recommend the place. The lunch menu is not very extensive either, so if you like options, this is not the place for you. The chocolate cake they brought out for my fiance's birthday was good and probably the best thing they offer. Again, nothing I would return again for. The outside deck facing the beach can definitely do with some maintenance and upkeep. It felt borderline gross sitting there to eat-especially with lovebugs attacking you constantly. The service is extremely mediocre. The hostess took us right away to a table on the outside deck, while the table was not even ready. Six of us stood there foolishly while it took 3 people that seemed to not know what they're doing to set up the table for more than 5 minutes. Weird. **19% tip is automatically added. Overall, this place is a terrible disappointment. I do NOT recommend it to anyone. Spend your money elsewhere-especially if celebrating an occasion. I had an amazing experience at Ocean Hai. My date ordered the brussels sprouts, which were absolutely spectacular. The combination of the Brussels, apple cider vinegar, perfectly cooked lardons and whatever other magical ingredients the chef used was outstanding. The highlight were the fish entrées! I really appreciate going to a restaurant that does not overcook a beautiful piece of fish. I had the Seabass, which seemed to melt in my mouth. It tasted as if it was infused with butter. I have to say it was the best Seabass I've ever eaten. My date had the grouper, which was equal to the Seabass. I've read some reviews that were unfavorable about the grouper and I can't understand it, at least based on my experience. It was also cooked perfectly, and had incredible flavor, which was not overwhelmed by the rest of the dish. The flavor of the fish was in the focus, as it should be. The service was outstanding. The hostess was kind enough to put the roses that I brought into a vase and setting those on our table before we were seated, so they would be a surprise to my date when we were seated. The vase was beautiful and she arranged the flowers which created the exact impression I was hoping for. Our server Raul was extremely attentive without being invasive during our romantic dinner. He just always seem to appear at the right time and then to disappear appropriately. The sign said "best sushi in tamp 2019" so I had super high expectations but it was average. Also, if I'm going to pay $20 for a roll I expect it to be substantially filling and it was the size of a hand roll. The shrimp potstickers were great! And the oyster setup was nice. They provide complimentary edamame which was a nice surprise. Service was good but the outdoor seating area only had fans on in one half of the area, which we weren't on, so we were definitely glistening with sweat shortly into our date. My husband and I went here for dinner once and we were really happy overall with our experience. The food was excellent, both presentation and taste wise. We ordered the Crab Rangoons for an appetizer and they were amazing, some of the best Crab Rangoon's I've had in a long time. My husband ordered the Volcano Sushi Roll for his entree and he loved it, I tried it as well and thought it was very tasty. I ordered the Bone-In Chicken and it was also quite good, however I was not a huge fan of the sauce on the chicken. My husband really enjoyed the chicken too, it definitely had a lot of flavor and was cooked to perfection. Very juicy, not remotely dry which is what you should get at an expensive restaurant such as this one. We ordered the Pandan Brûlée for dessert and it was very yummy, not the best crème brûlée I've ever had but good. The service here was wonderful. Our server was super helpful, kind, and most of all, he was very attentive to our every need. I love the ambiance in this restaurant, it is extremely relaxed and it feels very much like fine-dining. I had a wonderful time here. I held my wedding dinner here and they accomodated me even though it was such a short notice. Miss Gabby was the one who called me back and coordinated everything for me. I love this spot! This is an Asian fusion restaurant but they still have some traditional items like their sushi! I came here for my birthday dinner on a quick weekend trip to Clearwater and this place exceeded expectations. The interior is absolutely gorgeous and make sure you dress up! There's an outdoor area too with heaters. The service is quick and very friendly too. Our waiter gave us great recommendations. They gave us complementary edamame too. Their drinks are good too. They have wine, cocktails and beer. I got the Sapporo and my boyfriend got the Asian pear cocktail and really liked it. We started with the Mongolian meatball appetizer with the candy stripe tuna roll and salmon nigiri. They all were so delicious. The meatballs melt in your mouth and the hoisin sauce that comes on top of it along with the heat from the jalapeño really brings the entire dish together. For entrees we got the gulf gobbler on top of kimchi fried rice and it was so good. It was my first time trying the gulf gobbler fish and it just tastes like any other white fish. The kimchi fried rice was seasoned really well and was very flavorful. For dessert we got the chocolate mikado. It comes with a blood orange glaze. It's basically chocolate and coffee mousse in a cake altogether. Personally I'm not a fan of blood orange but I still really liked the dessert altogether. Many of the tables inside remained empty during our time there so we thought perhaps we were seated outside due to having two children. Two of our party didn't find the food suitable. The apps are pretty great, the Brussels and potstickers were tasty. Also the chocolate dessert was fantastic, but not really "asian" fusion compared to some of the other options. The bad: Mains were fairly bad. The veggie crispy tofu lo mein was essentially flavorless. Veggies were fine, but the sauce on the noodles had no flavor (not even salty with soy sauce...). The crispy tofu was crispy, but also totally plain, not even salted again. Also had the salmon. For 30 dollars expected a bit more, but the flavor wasn't awful. Surprised there was no crispy skin at this price point. The base of pureed butternut squash tasted good but didn't really jive with the rest of the dish. Pricing was absolutely too high for the food quality and quantity. People complaining about the tip are idiots, our servers get paid next to nothing so 18% guaranteed is great. read more

Amazing Asian American fusion spot with a lot of variety. They have an entire sushi menu, in addition to a regular a la carte menu. The ambiance and decor of the resturant is really nice. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was excellent and our waiter was really helpful in providing recommendations. I came here with my girlfriend and we decided to mix it up between the sushi and regular menu. I would highly recommend the Mongolian meatballs (pork) to start - the meat is seasoned so well and there's a little bit of spice to it. For sushi, there's a few good rolls to select from but we ended up going with the candy stripe roll, which was so delicious. We also got two pieces of the salmon nigiri, which was really refreshing. For an entree, we split the gulf grouper. The kimchi fried rice that was served with this dish was really good, but the fish itself was just okay. For dessert, we ordered the micado dessert which was so good. It's a lot of chocolate though, so if you're not big on chocolate, I'd recommend another item. read more

We had a chance to stop in on two occasions during our stay. The first was for dinner to enjoy sushi, sashimi, and nigiri. The rolls and variety were fantastic! The edamame appetizer was really good too! Andrew was our server and that dude knows his sushi. He provided excellent service and chatted with us a little about not only the sushi on the menu, but also other local fare, and how it all compares to the sushi he's experienced in his travels. It was a great experience! I also had a Japanese bourbon old fashioned. It was great. If you're into old fashions then give it a try. It has a hint of ginger. More like 2.5 stars for mediocre food and service. Ocean Hai restaurant is inside the Wyndham Grand hotel in Clearwater beach, few steps away from the amazing beach views. Lots of seating available inside and out in the patio overlooking the sandy beach. We dined on a Sunday nite, not many diners were present. We started the nite with Thai mussels. My friend and I love mussels so we were very excited. The mussels were accompanied with flavorful yet salty broth and very stale crostini. We overlooked the broth but the bread were inedible. It took extra 10 mins for our server to bring fresh bread while our dish was getting cold. I wasn't very amused. Next, we ordered Tiger and Yamaha rolls, both came recommended by our server. It took a while for the rolls to arrive, very surprising since the restaurant wasn't very busy. In the tiger roll, the tempura shrimp were cold, which was interesting. Not sure if that's how it was suppose to be presented. Mochi balls and creme brûlée for dessert. Since we were celebrating my friend's birthday, they brought complimentary mochi balls. I've had enough mochi balls in the past to know those weren't mochi balls. The coating were very dense and it was not appetizing. Creme brûlée was much better. Overall, I was very disappointed with this place. The food wasn't very appetizing and didn't come in a orderly manner. Won't be returning anytime soon. read more

Ugh what can I say about this place. AVOID IT! 1) The Edamame was not prepared right. How do you get that wrong? It was so hard getting the beans out of the pod. You know how is supposed to pop out through the lining? Well they popped out somewhere else than that. 2) The kanpachi crudo was bad and not fresh and also did not have enough yuzu sauce. I ate that and it had a really really fishy aftertaste. And after an hour my stomach didn't handle that well and had to sit my ass on the toilet for awhile. Not a pleasant experience. 3) Got the crazy rich Asian roll because it was nominated the best sushi 2019. I was not crazy rich about it. It was average tasting. Not much seasoning to the wagyu beef, cream cheese was a little overpowering. Asparagus was bland. 4) I give it one star for decoration and service. The guy was really nice, but the food was god awful except for the dessert. Dessert also somewhat saved this place for a star. read more
