I finally went here after signing up for RI Food Fights. We ordered an Italian and chicken salad sand. They were ready in 10 min. The staff were so friendly when I went to pick up my food. I have to say that is a huge factor for returning. I've done the RI food fights before for other challenges and have not returned to the establishment where the staff have been rude! I'm not a hardcore vegetarian or anything but I've had a few veggie burgers in my time. The one I had today from this establishment was the best I've ever consumed. The simply dressed sandwich had lettuce, tomato, and sun dried tomato mayo. I added cheddar and avocado. Great balance of ingredients and tastes awesome. If you are not sure what to order, then I would highly recommend this. I believe this is a local favorite sandwich. Coffee Braised Brisket (3/5, Brisket Braised in Narragansett Autocrat Coffee Milk Stout and local Richard Alan Coffee with a Root Vegetable Spread on a Buono's Bakery Sub Roll): I must say, props to creating something different. I have never heard of coffee braised brisket... maybe it is a Rhode Island thing, but I have to say the brisket needs to be cooked slow for that tender brisket. Some parts weren't. Blade Steak Chili (5/5, House Chili with Ground Beef, Hot Italian Sausage, and Steak with Onions, Tomatoes, Kidney Beans, and Herbs/Spices): Goodness. The BEST sandwiches in Downtown Providence. First off, I don't know where they get their bread but it's the best. Whether it's a soft torpedo roll for the Ocean State Grinder, or whole-wheat toast for the BLT, the bread is outstanding! Just about anything can be made as a wrap, and if you are counting carbs, then get one of their delicious salads, or a sandwich with no bread. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and they offer catering to local offices, if you have a special event or business meeting! Watch for the daily specials. First time being in providence and needed a place to eat so where else to look but yelp. The reviews were spot on with this place. The sandwiches were fresh and not expensive. Food came out quickly and they bring it out to you while you sit down. The bread was grilled nicely but I have to say that there wasn't that much tuna in it compared to some of the meat in their other sandwiches. Also I couldn't really taste the cheese but it might have been the cheese that I chose. It's just so busy in there that I was happy to finally try a sandwich from a place that I had heard so many good things about. I guess the biggest down fall for me is that I can't get there to park. I want to give them a better rating, but every time I come here no matter what time it is I always have the longest wait. Even when I have placed the order online and gone in to pick it up. I will say I love the caesar wrap though it is made with everything so fresh and the tastiest dressing. Don't drive here if you have to come it is downtown Providence you will never find a space unless the Gods have blessed you. They are extremely friendly, but make sure when you get to the front of the line you have what you want ready because the line is impatient and they are trying to move quickly. Work ordered a large order today for lunch. Great fresh simple sandwiches. The salad looked tasty per my coworker it was good. They lost a star because I didn't person Ally like the broccoli bisque. Even though it was vegan I expected it to be a 'creamy' feel but it was more a broccoli broth. Now I still eat it it was ok. But not what I was expected with the title bisque. We'd happily go back for sure. Oh we ordered online and overall good website. But our receptionist didn't like how they suggested the tip, she felt obligated to give. Meh...my review of our spinach salad with diced chicken. In Providence for a convention, and decided to try this place based on the yelp reviews. My friend and I both ordered the same thing ...the spinach salad with diced chicken with raspberry vinaigrette dressing on the side. We must not of have ordered the specialties they are known for (to have such a high rating) because our salads were just like any other standard spinach salad and the diced chicken seemed to have been prepared way in advance with nothing that would make it special. I love this place after only one visit. Normally you get luke warm service at best during a busy lunch rush. No. These folks were super nice, did not rush me, and offered suggestions. The person who seemed to be the manager recognized that this was my first visit and made it a point to chat with me and make me feel welcomed. I order the Italian grinder, and it was amazing. The bread makes the sandwich for me, and this roll was soft and delicious. I love that they use lots of local products too. I tried the butterscotch bacon cookie. Ocean State is an awesome sandwich shop with a convenient Downcity location. I stopped in today for the first time and got a grinder, and not only was the sandwich delicious, I was also really impressed by the service and the impeccably clean space. Right upon coming in, I was greeted by the friendly people at the counter. Choosing a sandwich was a tough call because there were lots of good options, both hot and cold, as well as salads and soup. I'd heard good things about the Thanksgiving 365, but ultimately went with the grinder. I was just sitting down to a table when I already heard my name called - super fast! The sandwich itself, which was a perfect size for lunch, was clearly made with super fresh ingredients. No browning lettuce here, folks! Everything tasted like it was high quality and the flavors blended together really well. At one point I realized I'd been eating red onions, which I usually request to leave off my sandwiches (I just forgot to ask this time), but the amount of onions on the grinder was actually just right, not dominating over the other flavors. The meats were super tasty and I especially loved the spicy pepper spread. Overall, it really hit the spot because I'd been craving an epic Italian style sub. While I was eating, I enjoyed listening to the great mix of classic rock on the loud speakers, and admired the cool design depicting the Narragansett Bay on the floor. The Rhode Island license plates hung throughout the restaurant are a nice touch. So much Rhody pride! I'm looking forward to coming here more often and trying more of the sandwich toppings. Please literally run down the hallway to make sure they snag a box. It's cold sandwich with turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle mayo. I haven't tried many of their other sandwiches.
