The service, location and cleanliness of the joint are all superb, so I was initially excited for it to match my expectations. What fell short was the food itself. I ordered, according to the gal at the register, one of the popular sandwiches: The Ocean State Ultimate Grinder. The bread felt like a lighter version of Jimmy John's, and ensemble between was mediocre and felt skimpy. The density, or lack there of, left my jaw wanting more when biting in. My taste buds signaled a "mass produced" or "lunchables" type food. I left somewhat hungry, and disappointed in the lingering aftertaste. Ultimately, I wouldn't recommend it to a friend. read more

There's nothing special about any of the ingredients, they don't include any sides or pickles with the sandwiches and it feels like anything you get is just an exercise in seeing how little they can provide. I love a good Italian grinder and decided to try out Ocean State Sandwich for lunch since it's near my work. I ordered the ocean state ultimate grinder and the guy who took my order walked to the refrigerated section (to-go area) and handed me a prepackaged sandwich. I couldn't personalize it or anything. It was a large sandwich but for $9, it's expensive and didn't come with any sides. I couldn't have them take out the onions and banana peppers so I ended up throwing away a majority of the sandwich (too much raw onion!). The bread was too thick and more of a hamburger bun vs a roll that usually comes on an Italian grinder. Steer clear of this place. Go to Cafe La France or somewhere else for a sandwich! read more

What is up with the lack of good sandwich places downcity? I was desperately missing Amenities and was excited to see a new sandwich shop had spring up in the same location. They have done some really nice renovations here since it was Amenities. It was clean and bright and all the employees were very friendly. I got the BBQ chicken sandwich - the obvious, bbq chicken, cheddar, tomato and bacon on a kaiser roll. It was messy and delicious. I got chips and a drink and the total was around $12.00 which is a little pricey. I would skip on the sides as the sandwich itself was reasonably priced at $7.50. Head next door and grab a drink some CVS and save yourself a few bucks. The chips really were unnecessary because the sandwich was more than enough. Will be heading back here for sure. Ordered the Ocean State Italian Grinder (posted picture) yet wasn't very impressed, didn't like the salsa-tasting sauce on it. Then ordered the Cuban sandwich which was amazing! Many different types of drinks and chips to order to munch on before your sandwich is prepared. I am surprised at some of the negative reviews on here! I love coming to ocean state for lunch :) the menu is big and unique. The grinder is delicious and I love the apple chicken salad. Their salads are big and fresh. To top it off, the staff is always friendly, even when they are busy! It can be a little pricey, as none of the sandwiches come with anything on the side. This place is a God send for me given that my office is a 5 minute walk away, they offer online ordering so you basically order/pay on their website (which is really intuitive) and skip the line and grab your food at the register and go! I would highly recommend their chili...it's fantastic, spicy enough but not too much, and a small is actually very filling (chunks of meat and ground beef...c'mon!) I also love their Turkey Apple (the actual name, I can't think of now) sandwich - it's a perfect fresh bite and a little sweet to round it out. I do enjoy their brisket sandwich - it's cooked the way I like it and pairs really well with beer. They also have a great assortment of local beverages along with really great cookies (maple bacon cookie...what?!) I heard they have an amazing Italian Grinder...I'm gonna check that out on my next stop. read more
