I had a deeply concerning experience at Ocean Sushi. On 04/23/2025, I ordered three rolls, including a spicy tuna roll. After eating the majority of the rolls, I found what appeared to be a parasitic worm, likely an Anisakis parasite (which can cause Anisakiasis). Shortly afterward, I developed severe gastrointestinal symptoms, including significant stomach distress and dizziness. I visited urgent care and the ER, spending $165 out of pocket, and was referred to a gastrointestinal specialist for further testing. When I called the restaurant to report the issue, I was told a driver would come verify the food. Instead, the manager, the chef, and another staff member came to my house. One of them even brought a tray of raw tuna--despite my clear request not to bring any raw food onto my doorstep--and proceeded to dig their bare hands into the tuna without gloves. They remained outside my home for nearly 40 minutes, explicitly trying to dissuade me from escalating the matter with the Health Department. The entire incident is recorded on my Ring camera. When I later spoke with the owner, Andy, he blamed the incident on "language and cultural barriers" and suggested that I could have gotten sick from "anything." He refused to take responsibility or reimburse my medical expenses. I have filed a formal complaint with the NYC Health Department and have preserved all evidence, including photos, video footage, and medical records. I strongly urge extreme caution if you are considering dining at Ocean Sushi. I've also included a photo showing the difference between what may have been a strip of tuna fat (top) and what strongly resembles a parasitic worm (bottom). The difference in texture and shape is clear. I am not a food safety expert, but I trust my instincts -- and I believe others should be informed.

Sesame seeds on the sushi?! Not for me. The sushi wasn't bad but the sesame was overpowering. Not sure if it was only the ones I ordered. The service is quick and the food overall isn't bad. Nice people and I am sure the other items are better.

Ordered takeout for the first time- (next time would love to eat here in person) Our food was fast, so we were able to enjoy our food still hot. Flavorful and the Spicy Dragon roll was soo good, I regretted my decision to share the roll with my husband. I ordered Yaki udon- which was delicious however I wish the shrimp tails were peeled off. No biggie tho. We will 100% order here again

I guess Ocean Sushi still hasn't opened for indoor dining! So I decided to order for takeout and was both perplexed and amazed by their innovative ordering setup. Ocean Sushi blocked off the entrance for their vicinity and instead, placed a small microphone on a table, and created a tiny doorway to transfer food and money. Most of the customers seemed to place pickup orders and retrieved them by providing the last four digits of their phone number through the microphone. I honestly can't say the servers here were that nice. For example, as I got ready to place my takeout order, the server said, "Girl, what do you want?" rather than something more polite like, "Hello, how can I help you" or something similar... After all, they didn't have any customers outside, nor did they seem to have any phone calls that would warrant the rushed and cold "greeting" I received. Nevertheless, I ordered an "Under Sea Roll," as well as Red Snapper and Striped Bass Sashimi. Well, despite their lack of politeness, I have to hand it to them; they made my food in roughly 5 minutes and provided some of the best quality and tasting sushi I've had on Staten Island! The sashimi slices were large and fresh. The "Under The Sea" roll is an excellent option that combined the flavors of both California and Salmon Avocado rolls. The roll was plentiful, filling, and all-around tasty! While I felt the server was a little rude, I enjoyed my sushi roll and sashimi. I heard many people speak highly about their indoor-dining experiences at Ocean. Although I will probably order for pickup at Ocean again, perhaps when the pandemic subsides, and Ocean reopens for dining, I'll stop by and give their indoor dining a try!

Really nice workers and management is great. They come over and make sure your satisfied with your meal and check on how things are going. They have lunch specials and offer deals on special rolls. Really clean and nice decor and decorating. Parking is limited but there is a lot of street parking. Open full bar also. Right next to the Annadale train station also! read more

Down to the point: Fresh and delicious. While you cannot go wrong with anything with anything you order, you must try the Volanco Special appitizer. The freshness, taste and presindation was outstanding. I also ordered the Sashimi Deluxe and again the freshness and presintation was top notch. The staff is so friendly and attentive ( my tea cup was always full and hot) and Michelle true cares about the happiness of her customers. Oh and normally I was never a fan of fried oreos BUT these were heavenly, deep fried in tempura and served with icecream, perfect ending to a delicious meal. read more

The second you walk in Michelle the owner is so warm and inviting. The food is so fresh and the drinks are strong so that's a great combo. I like that the owner comes over always and asks how we are doing and if we are enjoying our meal. It's a good way to do business and to keep people from coming back in. My friends and I like trying new sushi places, so we decided to try Ocean Sushi as it just opened. The inside of the place is bright, classy, and decorative, and we loved the wall with the waterfall built in as soon as we got inside. Menu options were vast - I had a really hard time picking what to order. Ultimately, I ended up with the Seafood Miso Soup and the Hokkaido Special Roll. The soup was AMAZING. I am definitely coming back just for that. The special roll was great too. Overall was very pleased! Lychee martini was amazing as well. A+! Will be back! read more

Not only do I dine at the restaurant at least once a week, I also order in a lot at work. The delivery man in the afternoon is very nice and all the waiters and waitresses are very friendly. I have food allergies and they are very helpful when I need to request my food to be prepared a certain way. Michelle is the owner and she too is a great help and super nice! I absolutely love this place and highly recommend that you go here. You might lost service on your phone at this location, but to be honest I love that that happens. It allows the people I am dining with to be in the moment rather than on their phone. read more

Great food, great sushi and delicious hot entrees. Coming here felt like we were cheating on our all time favorite - Sapporo sushi in Bulls Head, but Sapporo is definitely less expensive and just as good. Some hot entrees on the menu were a bit over salted. They have a good variety of appetizers - we really enjoy trying different dishes. We would definitely come back. read more

Like most sushi places in Staten Island..its just a matter of time before their true colors come through..Was coming here for a long time and then stopped after they started to nickle and dime me as a high paying customer.Which.is NOT traditional Japanese etiquette...So i decided aftet covid to return and give them another shot..First 2 visits were ok..ordering my usual bottles of cold sake. Beer and cocktails and sushi and sashimi combo among other dishes..not a cheap meal ever..I HAVE been to Japan many times and the dining experience is deeply rooted in tradition and respect..NONE OF WHICH YOU GET AT OCEAN SUSHI....But this week it all went back to a horror show...They started serving me low grade yellowtail as my sashimi. And charging extra for each little sauce and for not wanting white tuna. Which is actually escolar and not TUNA at all and can make you sick...PLEASE STOP TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF CUSTOMERS WHO ACTUALLY KNOW ABOUT SUSHI...ITS PATHETIC...AND EMBARASSING...WILL NOT BE RETURNING.. read more

The food is so fresh and delicious here! My wife is from Hawaii so she's a very harsh judge when it comes to fish and sushi. The rice to fish proportion is perfect. They DON'T leave us wondering where the fish is. The kani salad is great, chicken katsu is pretty good too. The Nori (sushi seaweed wrap) is fresh! Crisp and easy to bite through, unlike other places that have leather like sushi wraps. Totally recommend this place! read more

So this has been our go to sushi place since it opened. Usually it's fine but the last few orders were noticeably off- sushi not as neat as usual, but we ignored it. Well tonight my husband ordered a bento box and just as he dug into his rice a nice sized bug crawled out. We almost vomited and threw everything away. Never again. read more

I can't say enough about ocean sushi. My review is long overdue. Michele and the rest of the staff is always very accommodating and friendly. The sushi is the freshest by far on Staten Island. I've never had a bad meal or a gross piece of fish at ocean... ever. Although they don't have a bar to hang out at I still feel comfortable and have just as much fun just chilling eating good food surrounded by pleasant people. You can't go wrong if you want the freshest sushi around. They always have something special and will offer up a great idea as well. They never disappoint. Love ocean! read more

Some of the freshest sushi I've ever had on Staten Island. They're rolls are always prepared with fresh fish that doesn't taste as if it's been sitting around all day. This place was very nice actually! I am always skeptical of new places but the owner came over and talked to us, she also own the sushi place (can't think of the name) in the Dolphin plaza on Amboy road. I've had take out there also and it was very good. Anyway the Sea World roll was pretty yummy, I also asked for my rolls without rice and they said no problem and wrapped them in the paper for me:-) Cali and spicy tuna and dragon rolls were all great! Kani salad was perfect not too spicy and not too thick! I will def go back! It's nice to see something new in this town read more

Delicious and affordable. It's about time Annadale gets a Japanese/Thai restaurant. I order once or twice a week and the staff is very friendly. Their chicken pad Thai is better than Sea's in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Take out orders take less than 30 mins to be delivered too! read more

We absolutely loved their food. Everything was so fresh and tasty. Their special rolls were in fact very special. They were not drenched in sauces like everywhere else, so you were able to actually taste the fish you were eating. Our waitress, Fannie was so sweet and attentive. It takes an outstanding dining experience for me to post a review, and Ocean Sushi was that for my family tonight. I almost don't want to go back because I don't want to jinx how good it was. Very casual sushi place. Good for quick lunch and dinner without the pomp and circumstance of fancier sushi places. The wait staff was attentive and the sushi itself was tasty and fresh. Prices were comparable to other sushi places on the island. read more

Fish quality leaves much to be desired. Portions are small. 3 deliveries in 3 months and each time they messed up the order, forgot something but each time the quality was poor. I don't know why so many reviewers make 5 star reviews for this place. The location is nice but short of that it's beyond me as to why people say the food here is good. So I decided to order some teriyaki thinking perhaps their kitchen makes good food there and I ordered the salmon and a friend ordered chicken. Salmon was crazy over cooked and the chicken was hard to chew. Very poor ingredients and we could both tell the meat was frozen before hand. Honestly I don't know what they are doing their but it isn't making good food. Don't bother making complaints. Nothing changes. In one ear out the other. read more

The avocado and steamed sweet potato roll were phenomenal, and a steal at only $4.50 each! They have a 3 meat at a time limit here, but given that they're doing most of the cooking for you, it helps keep things fresh and things are coming off the grill pretty quickly anyways, so the limit does not really come at the cost of velocity of consumption (if you're that kind of AYCE eater). Service here is pretty proactive, coming by regularly and taking orders promptly. We got a mix of meats and sides throughout. Pork belly is a winner, both slabs and slices. Beef intestines were not as we remembered from other locations, but nonetheless good. Sliced beef brisket and jowl are also good cuts for folks looking for something new. Not too much of a fan of marinated meets, but I'm sure they'd live up to the same level of quality too. One huge plus about this particular chain (for which you do pay a bit of a premium in the price) is that they have pretty amazingly efficient grills and vents, such that you can largely avoid smelling like your AYCE KBBQ afterwards. This Place is just beautiful, and when you add that to great food and a friendly warm owner and staff. Well what more can I say. The sushi sandwich is a burst of flavors blended so well complimenting each one. The Green Phoenix with Miso sauce just melts in your mouth. Freshness and quality have all the others beat. Same owners of Hokkaido which I also love. Ocean Sushi's ambiance knocks all these other places out of the water. On a date, with friends, or even family it is a true dining experience.The chef mixes sauces in such a way it tastes like something different and fresh when ever i go. I have my favorites (Sea World Roll, Beef yakitori, kimchee salmon, tom yum soup, volcano special, pad tai, ginger lobster...you will have to order in advance as it is made fresh for you). They have added Hibachi... everything is delicious on the menu. Beautiful atmosphere. Michelle really understands customer services and always makes you feel like you belong there.
