Oceano located on Lucerne in Lake Worth... Has it place amongst the Gods & Stars of the Gastronomic Galaxy. It's a vibe of American coastal simplicity in an understated zen like setting. The feels is one of genuineness, community & hospitality. It's arguably one of the best restaurants I've visited in South Florida and a James Beard Semi-Finalist. The dishes are thoughtfully created and beautifully presented. Chefs Jeremy & Cindy Bearman, are sourcing the best local ingredients from independent growers, and are detailed oriented resulting in a warm & welcoming environment. Eric was unpretentiously helpful with suggestions as we were eager newbies. We enjoyed a crisp bottle of Gavi throughout our evening. The Tuna Crudo (watermelon, cucumber, avocado, chile) was fresh, vibrant & I would have drunk the marinade. The Charred Cabbage (whipped feta, vinaigrette, mint) was smokey, carmelized & flavorful. The Orecchiette Bolognese (fresh pasta, beef/pork ragu, Calabrian chile) was rich, thick & savory. East Coast Halibut (island peas, grilled romaine, Oregon morel) was dense, mild & sweet goodness. This was my first time trying out this place. There is a limited different menu daily made with fresh local ingredients. The tuna crudo was fresh and loved the watermelon, red onion combo but it had a seasoning that in my opinion could have been left out. The pizza was good, simple but tasty, no nonsense but fresh. The gingerbread cake was good but not a fan of apples in my dessert so I ate around it. I would come back again to try something other than the pizza . Waiter was energetic, knowledgeable and friendly. We sat outside and it was a little warm. Didn't see the inside but get the feeling a lot of locals come here for dinner but love the vibe! read more

I am fresh from eating at the third rendition of Oceana. My last review was for the new restaurant before they did the rehabilitation. The new restaurant on Lucerne is absolutely fantastic. It seems like they added much more room and a better outside experience. That being said we had a pizza that was excellent. Thin crispy and a great taste. The fresh basil was very tasty. Then we had the rigatoni Pomodoro. Came out al dente with a light tomato sauce that was not sweet but balance just right. We had to try the desert of course. We got an ice cream sandwich with rhubarb. I split it with my friend. We both really enjoyed it and the cracker crust was nice and firm. Then we couldn't help ourselves and had one of these chocolate chip cookies which we split. This cookie put us away and over the top. Excellent cookie with warm melted chocolate chips coming out when we cut it in half. Our waiter,Drew was an old Hand at dealing with people. He gave my friend a taste of a couple of wines till he found when he liked. He explained everything fully and was very patient and friendly. Ignore my last review. It's when they were transitioning to the new space. It's a whole other world now. You gotta give it a shot. read more

Waited a long time for a cocktail. And although four us ordered the same special Margarita, it was not as described on menu. It was Mezcal and not Tequila. I liked it, but the others did not. We asked our waiter for two separate checks, but that didn't happen. My orrichetti was so salty (and I am queen of salt) it was inedible and all my table mates agreed. But so busy and waiter couldn't get to us I just ate what I could. My friend's pasta with lobster was so extremely spicy you couldn't taste the lobster. And I love hot and spicy, but it ruined the delicate taste of the lobster. And this wasn't cheap either. And it's extraordinary loud. You ways nice meal? Go to Cafe Acqua instead. read more

First the good; the food was really first rate, from the salads to dessert and everything in between. Now the bad . . . 1. The lighting. It's unnecessarily bright, like operating room bright. Between two many lights and the light colored hard reflective materials, it has a cafeteria feel to it. Tough to create ambience there. 2. The service. There was this current of unnecessary pomposity running through the place. First, the stern "no modifications" warning on the menu. Then there was our waiter's lecture on how great the chefs and their food was (let us decide that). This same waiter proved to be horrifyingly inattentive throughout the night. The waiter also recommended over-ordering by about 20 to 25%. Then there's their refusal to accept American Express. Why I'll go back: Creative preparations of rotating dishes in a typically chill Southern Florida vibe. You HAVE to order: A cake! Yes, a cake. Cindy Bearman is a master in this department. Her creations are both gorgeous and scrumptous and worth the money. Tony's Tip: CASH ONLY, so make sure you bring enough. These days I don't walk around with much, and I'm usually scrambling to hit the ATM on the way over. In a pinch, they'll take a credit card, but don't be "that guy." There's so much to love about Oceano. I love that the menu changes every day, so if you aren't vibing on today's options, check it out tomorrow. I love that it is still sorta a local secret because even though they don't take reservations, you can pretty much guarantee you'll be seated, even if you have to wait a little bit. I love the simple patio that makes it feel like you walked across the street to your neighbor's house for a block party dinner. And I LOVE the food. There are a few excellent mainstays, like the straight shooter pizza and the salted carmel choc chip cookie, plus some other dishes that continually make their way back onto the menu (lately it's a seafood curry and a rotation of panna cottas). Personally, I stalk any chilled soup, and the salads are always farm fresh. The pastas are all outstanding. Overall, on any given night there is plenty on the menu for carnivores and vegetarians. The beer and wine selection is decent as well. And the vibe is a nice foil to the "sceney" atmosphere of most of the restaurants in the center of Palm Beach (which I also definitely get my fill of). Wow. A lot went wrong last night and I hope for them it's just because they just recently reopened. First of all, a group of 5 women waited at the bar for 45 minutes before being offered a drink (I know that sounds insane) but it was true. After finally being acknowledged by the bartender and securing a seat at the bar thankfully our table was ready because we almost left after the scene he created... Anyways, super loud restaurant the acoustics were terrible. You couldn't hear anything. Sound panels needed. On to food and drinks. The cheapest bottle of red wine was $62 dollars. I looked around and every single table who ordered a bottle had the exact same bottle clearly their wine list needs to be adjusted. Some stand out items. The crudo, ceviche, and steak tartare were really good and had great flavor I would highly recommend those appetizers . The two pizzas mushroom and straight shooter were meh. Honestly needed some seasoning if anything. The halibut was really good but could have used like 2 more minutes of cooking time. The blue crab spaghetti was absolutely terrible. Whoever is in charge of desserts saved the night. The food runners brought out 4 items to our table that didn't belong to us. The kitchen sets the tone and the tone is friggin weird... I rate this as a "2" because it simply is not worth it. The good, most of the flavors were on point and it appears as though "most" of the food is fresh. I ordered the ribs, mushroom pizza, and a baked apple desert. The ribs were very good, cooked perfectly and uniquely flavored. The desert was also good, I enjoyed the flavor and it was as expected sans surprises. The bad, most of the issues are experience related. Non-experience related issues are that some of the ingredients are not fresh. The pizza had higher quality toppings, but was nothing more than an industrial dough. I should have known better, the pictures of the crust give it away online, it looks like something from a low-end Italian restaurant that doesn't specialize in pizza. The pasta my wife ordered took nearly an hour to come out and it was clearly nothing more than dried pasta bought from a store. The sauce was fine, but nothing about it was worth 45mins. Then there's the "cash only" thing... Big pain in the butt, and if you didn't know before you sat down then you're going to have to use their ATM. I'm not sure what their ATM fee is because I knew this going in and spent my time going to an ATM and grabbing cash. I haven't seen it used cash for anything in over 10 years, there's zero reason for this, not a legit reason at least. Multiply the annoyance factor of the cash issue by 2 because you're warned to keep your "experience" to two hours... Parking is not the best, you have to waste time getting cash, and then you wait an hour -out of the two hrs you get to eat - for boiled pasta and meh pizza. I'll never go back and unless you walk around with $150 in cash at all times and take an Uber there with an immense amount of patience, neither should you. read more

I have been dying to come here and finally made it for my birthday!! We came on a Wednesday around 5pm and it was pretty slow so we were able to get a table. I'm sure once it's season, this place will be packed the minute it opens!! We ordered a bottle of champagne for the table and I will say their list is impeccable. The champagne was delicious. To start, we got the speck, melon, and homemade ricotta dish. It was out of this world. I still think about it until today. There was sprinkled pistachios and some sort of honey. It was crafted so well. For mains, we got the burger and lobster with grits. The food just kept getting better and better. I loved how much detail went into the food. Truly incredible. I haven't had a meal this good in months, and I can't wait to return! Oceano curates and changes their menu daily, and there are only two dishes that remain constant: the Margherita pizza and a dessert. Of course, we had to start with the Margherita pizza. The crust was awesome, but the most amazing part of the pizza was the sauce. It was honestly some of the best sauce I've ever had, and I can see why the pizza remains on the menu. It's a must have! The Orecchiette was homemade and the Bolognese had great texture. Finally, the fresh caught Grouper was cooked perfectly, and the curry sauce was the perfect pairing. Oceano also has a nice wine list with some unique options. Our server, Jason, had impeccable timing and gave just enough input to enhance our experience. Mediocrity and Missteps. After much anticipation, I finally went in to Oceano this past weekend. I love patronizing local restaurants, and I was truly excited to stop by here. It felt long overdue. Unfortunately, both the overall experience and service were less than stellar. I might be willing to revisit at some point in the future to allow them an opportunity to right my impression, but at present I'm not eager to return. Where to start? Oceano has a relatively positive reputation in the local community with foodies, so it seemed a natural place to add to my standard rotation. Located on East Ocean Ave in Lantana, slightly east of Federal, the vibe is decidedly "beachy" - and the parking situation is what you would expect for anything near the water in South Florida. Be prepared and arrive early so you've got time to scout out a spot in advance of your dining experience. We arrived slightly before 7pm, had no issues parking (delightedly), and we were seated within 15 minutes or so. It's worth noting that the menu and website present an air of pretentiousness that set the tone for the evening - and unfortunately led to some dissatisfaction from my party. First, this is a cash only establishment, which feels very "off" in a major metro area in 2022. We did our due diligence and came prepared, and while Oceano does have an ATM inside for those who did not know in advance, we still felt this detracted from the experience. Secondly, the menu expressly notes that patrons are limited to a 2 hour timespan. I understand the desire to keep tables rotating, and I think this would be a fine request *IF* service was well executed. But that's a big IF, and unfortunately, service was well below par for an establishment that demands so much from its patrons. The menu is short and sweet - exactly what you would expect from a restaurant that lives by the farm-to-table freshness mantra. A quick review and I had my order decided. The waiter arrived shortly after we were seated to deliver water and ask us for our drink orders. Typically, I'd have ordered a cocktail with dinner, but there was only a wine list provided. I chose a glass, and we proceeded to order our appetizer and entrées. We started with a Mushroom pizza, and ordered the smoked pork ribs and orechiettte with lamb bolognese as our mains. The biggest misstep of the night was the service, which began slowly and progressively got worse. After a bit of a wait, our appetizer was delivered. The pizza was very lackluster. The dough was flat and not as springy or airy as you would expect from something made fresh in house. I order a very similar pizza at another local spot in Delray, and sadly this one did not hold a candle to theirs. The ingredients were fresh, just not as well executed or as well seasoned as the pizzas at Rose's Daughter. On to the mains. My companion received his pork ribs relatively swiftly after the appetizer, however my main was nowhere in sight. I urged him to eat while his meal was hot, instead of waiting for mine to arrive. He dug in and was pleased with the flavor combinations. Their salsa verde was tasty, and capers were a nice unexpected flair. We flagged our server to ask about my entree, as it had still not yet arrived, 30+ minutes into service. Our inquiry was met with a response that the food is served "sharing style". This is not listed anywhere on the menu, web site or elsewhere and felt like a poorly crafted retort to a disorganized kitchen or poor service. Continuing to wait, my companion actually *finished* his entree well before mine was ever even served. 45+ minutes into service my pasta was delivered (at the same time as the table adjacent to us, who were seated 25 minutes after we arrived). Admittedly, the pasta was delicious and well seasoned - but it was not mind blowing - and certainly did not make up for the service missteps, which were acknowledged and sidestepped by staff. In a final hope for redemption, we ordered dessert. My companion ordered the roasted apple and I ordered the chocolate cake with poached pear and hazelnut ice cream. The roasted apple was the clear winner of the two. What I thought would be a dessert plated elegantly, was presented in a trifle cup. The chocolate cake was juvenile and uncomplex, and the hazelnut flavor was lost in the sea of chocolate. The poached pear seemed misplaced. All in all, there were many missteps and a lot of mediocrity in a restaurant that is generally held to fairly high repute in the local community. Wow, just wow. We heard great things about this place but our experience last night was horrific. We got there at 6:30 with a mass of people crowding the door. We were greeted by a very curt woman with an accent who told us that since we didn't have a reservation we could sit but had to order and eat fast. So rude to be rushed through a dinner like a drive through window. We ordered the fritters ( all dough)seafood pasta( looked like a bowl of dogfood). The manager kept scurrying simply around the tables which was strange and distracting. The rude woman from before was eating openly behind the hostess stand.
