Overall great experience. Upon our arrival we were upgraded to a cabin with a view of the ocean. Room was immaculate and so were the grounds. The public trash cans were full upon arrival and also upon waking at a separate one the following day. Had issues with getting the fire started (admittedly were warned about dud bags). The only other issue was that I was greeted with a few very large mosquitos in the bathroom during my evening pee. Stating the negatives, but all in all a great experience. Would definitely recommend and will be back. The experience was above what I expected for the rate. read more

June 2019: Our room (Room 131) at Oceanpoint Ranch was frankly disappointing. It did not fully resemble what was featured/pictured on the website. There was no table and chairs as pictured, or even a chair for that matter, in the room. There was no foldable luggage stand (coupled with no place to hang our clothes, i.e., no closet or armoire), so we had to live out of our suitcases on the floor. Because of this, it makes for a messy, cumbersome, and disorganized stay - a completely contradictory feeling of what you want when you are on vacation. Finally, the single light in the room and the one nightstand were simply not sufficient. The one lamp in the room is inadequate and gives the room a dark, unpleasant feel. And the one nightstand, again, was simply not sufficient, especially if you had the opposite side of the bed. Unfortunately, during our stay, we never looked forward to retreating back to our room after our outings because of these deficiencies. Our stay was not restful, restorative or pleasant due also to the lack of these basic conveniences. It just seems these issues are simple, basic practicalities that the owners should have been aware of when remodeling. I will commend Oceanpoint Ranch with its fireplaces and activities on the grounds - which offered relief from our room. But, altogether the nearly $700 we paid for two nights was absurd and regretful. We won't be returning and will advise others to look elsewhere. read more

Oceanpoint Ranch is a treasure! We stayed for one night and couldn't have been happier. The property is gorgeous, steps from the beach, and the rooms are stylish and cozy (ours had a fireplace and ocean view patio). Breakfast from The Canteen was good and there are many restaurants and shops a few miles away. Best of all, our dog had a GREAT time exploring the large grassy areas and had a very comfortable stay. It's been my desire to stay at this property since they remodeled and joined the Pacifica Hotels. We arrived without a reservation and Crystal at the front desk was so proficient and kind and we were able to enjoy this stellar place. The room was cozy especially with the fireplace, the close proximity to walking the boardwalk and the beach is great, the wonderful lawns and fire pits with lots of outdoor games is fun. The safety with Covid was evident. All the folks there are helpful. We can't wait to return and recommended the place to our neighbors for their honeymoon! read more

I was disappointed with my breakfast experience at Ocean Point. My tab was $37 for a bagel with smoked trout and a mimosa. When I questioned the cost (yes, 18% gratuity included, for self-service), the guy that hadn't waited on us couldn't find on the register the cost of the mimosa, which I located on the wall. It was $12 for a mimosa, which the website said was $8. He asked if I had my mimosa yet and I answered I didn't think so. (I had gone to the restroom after ordering and had not yet returned to my table outside). Then this same guy brought me 2 mimosas, one for me having to wait for it, so the second was complimentary! That was a nice gesture. Then my friend's food came, so we waited, and waited and waited for mine. Finally, I went back inside and was told the order hadn't gone through and they were preparing it then. When he brought it out to me, he told me it was comped as I had to wait. Then I had to go inside for silverware, and my friend had had to ask for silverware as well. The trout looked and tasted like salmon to me. So, not good service, in fact the girl was surly. Inconsistent menu information from the restaurant and website. High prices. Average food. And we were the only 2 customers in the last half hour of their breakfast serving. The outdoor seating was sunny at the picnic tables. There was ample parking. And I only paid $12 plus tip for my breakfast. The hassle is not worth returning for, and I'm local. Love it. Had a wonderful stay here and will definitely be back if we come back to this area! Likely to have been recently remodeled. Everything in the room looks new and are working well. Couple of minor issues like a remote control issue, and condiments for coffee. Everything else was working great. They have fire pits, games, swimming pool heated to 80 and a cafe on-site. There is a beautiful trail just right in front which makes a lovely morning walk. The staff were incredibly pleasant. Highly recommended!! read more

We love this place! It's very clean and they left us more toiletries when they cleaned. I'm a sucker for toiletries. I fell in love with their pillows and ended up buying a couple for home. They use three pillowcases to make sure the pillows stay clean. Another big plus is that you eat to check out games for free. It's right across the street from the beach. Stayed here April 18 till April 19, 2019. The hotel price is too high for a basic motel experience and lack of customer service. The part that truly ruined our stay was the front desk calling our room at 8:00am in the morning waking both me and my husband. The call was to ask if the car parked near our room was ours. I reiterated that our car was black and a Nissan and not parked in front of our room. I said why and she told me she wanted the owner of the car to move it. I said well its not ours and we were sleeping. I decided at check out 3 hours later to see if the front desk would remedy the situation.I asked forna discount as we were woken up by her call and also she had our car make, license # and color on our info sheet, which she could have easily looked at before rudely awakening us with her call. She rudely laughed after my request and said a discount for a wake-up call. So no discount or sincere apology. read more

Very thin walls, doors slamming, pipe noises , freeway noise and loud staffing. The jalousie windows while charming are loud and offer little privacy in the bathroom when open. The freeway noise and doors slamming are very jarring. Rooms are relatively clean (although I encountered a bunch of hair on my pillow also (*see review by Richard R below but I think it's from the dryers )but very warm and so you have to open windows for some cooling and hear all the outside noise. The grounds are nice and the location near Moonstone beach is awesome. The Canteen food was quite tasty! The games lawn is awesome with fire pits to hang out....so in summary....charming rooms but can be warm and noisy, lovely premises...tasty food at Canteen... read more

Retreated here from the Santa Barbara Thomas Fire and really enjoyed our first visit to this property. Super fun family friendly place with games and right next to the beach. Rooms were quaint, clean and and overall a great value. We had a small issue during our stay and hotel management passed the test with flying colors. I own a customer service business and the true test of a business is not if they have issues (all businesses have issues) but how they respond to those issues that makes a difference between average, good and great businesses. Their manager Mark was very responsive to our issue, which tells me the hotel brand and staff are one to be trusted., and because of that we will be returning. We booked a room to attend a wedding there, the staff was nice and friendly but disappointed with the room. For the price, it wasn't that clean. Carpet was sticky and found trash tucked away and cigarette on the porch. wedding was out doors and freezing. They needed heaters but didn't tell the bride and groom until the day before but for the price they pay for the venue, it should be something they should provide. My girlfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights in the beginning of the year and we didn't want to leave. There were a few resorts on the same street but OPR was more secluded and it felt like we were staying in a resort. There were some lawn games such as horseshoes, croquet, and shuffleboard. There are fire pits that you can sit around at night that start with the push of a button. It was really nice to sit under the stars, when the weather permitted. The room was nice and it looked like it was newly renovated it also has a nice fire place. Definitely a place to visit on a yearly basis. It even had its own path to the beach. read more

Do not be mistaken - this is a mid-level motel. Don't let the word Ranch or the nice photography fool you. Some points to consider. There is nothing wrong with a nice motel but they seem to be trying to look like they are something more amd they're not. 1. The rates are high for a motel. The rooms are redecorated but again this is not a hotel and they are charging hotel prices. 2. we found a dirty used tissue in the bed and the manager would not ask housekeeping to change the sheets until we showed her a picture of it. 3. The payment system they subscribe to wasn't working so the restaurant was closed for at least 4 days 4. No coffee other than the coffee you can make in your room 5. The rooms have very little air flow and are stuffy 6. Highway 1 is right behind the motel and a main roads right in front of it, so it is loud at night 7. The front office staff and manager are very young and don't seem to have any experience troubleshooting issues like dirty sheets and no coffee. 8. The location is lovely, but it's the farthest motel from downtown and there seem to be better places closer to the beach and the two restaurants in this area. read more

Had a great stay at this hotel with my family. Right across from Moonstone beach so easy to take a nice walk. Rooms are a little on the cramped side and could use another lamp as it is a bit dark at night, but they are tastefully furnished. LOVED the heavy weighted comforters! My family enjoyed playing games in the game room and playing horseshoes. Loved the fire pits at night. They sell s'mores kits too. We didn't eat at the restaurant but may give it a try next time. In a premium "Lone Star Cabin", next door occupant has left a barking dog in their room. No one at the front desk, no one answering the phones for guest services. This is an overpriced motel that is LONG past it's prime and has no customer service at all. Avoid at all costs. read more

We recently stayed three nights - where do I start. Customer service was overall terrible, two of the four front desk workers we talked to were overly rude, had no sense of basic customer service and clearly did not want to be working. The Restaurant - they didn't know if it was going to be open or closed for dinner, and just said we will decide later. For breakfast they said they were open the night before, went there and they were closed and only open for call in orders. The worker just looked at us at the front door. Rooms - we stayed in two rooms during our stay which averaged over 400 a night. The first room smelled like a camp fire I think due to the fire place and the rooms were not that clean. For example hair on the shower walls. Beautiful property but the staff was the big downfall for us. Would not stay here again. read more

I was told that daily housekeeping will be provided when I made the reservation and was disappointed to learn that it's not the case when we arrived ( I find it bizarre that indoor dining at their canteen is ok but housekeeping when you are not in the room is not safe?!) . The rooms are badly insulated - very cold in the bathroom. There is also no way to get hot water - neither the reception or the room has hot water boiler. Absolutely charming place. We stayed in room 146, which is at the far end of the complex, closest to the greenery and putting area. Our room was beautifully appointed, with everything you see in the pictures online: the white bedding, bright red printed quilt, cow motif and cute pig hooks. The TV was big, the vaulted ceilings gave the room an airy feel, and I loved being able to open up the rear sliding glass door to allow access to the patio and a cross-breeze when the front door was open as well. The claw-foot soaking tub was a wonderful addition, and I loved the tile in the shower too. The absence of a closet was kind of a bummer, but really, if you're coming to Cambria, how many clothes do you need to bring? I would suggest they place a coat/hat rack in the rooms so that you can hang up some of your larger items. Staff at the front desk was welcoming, and the gentleman who runs the breakfast in the morning kept the tables clean and the food area neat. There weren't a lot of non-carb options, but I'm sure families appreciate the convenience of having waffles, yogurt and apples to feed their little ones. For those who want to stay on the property, there was plenty to do, including croquet, shuffleboard, a few diversions in the game room, and an on-site pool (closed for the time we were there). The closest food options are a little over a mile away in town, but there is a fridge in the room, so you can keep drinks and snacks cold. Overall, it was more than I'm used to paying per night, but well worth the added expense. We are excited to return and discover more about Cambria and its surroundings. read more

They have games you can borrow and play and even have s'mores kits if anyone wants to use the fire pits. They even have games available along with a Rec room and a heated pool. Beautiful property with great access to nearby points of interest. Rooms are cute but walls are thin and there is little privacy. Rooms really need a fan as there is no air circulation unless windows are left open. No fancy frills and limited guest service but I would still highly recommend this property because of the location. read more

We stayed here instead of Paso Robles for the Mid State Fair. This place was awesome! We had the corner unit overlooking the grove down to the ocean. They recently remodeled all of the rooms and grounds. I saw previous reviews mentioned no tub, looks like they omitted the closets (which we never use in hotels) and simply had a hanging rod for clothes, great idea. They used the space to place a claw-foot tub which was a nice touch. We had a wood burning fireplace that had a ready to light log set in bag! During the day we took part in a few of the lawn games they offered (shuffleboard, croquet, corn hole). They also had an indoor game room with fuseball and table shuffleboard. We even lasso'd a plastic cow! They had a lot of gas fire pits to sit at and sold smores kits. We didn't have our kids with us but we are excited to return with them! read more

My family decided to spend New year's eve in Cambria. Cambria looks like mini Switzerland. It is very beautiful and picturesque.We stayed in Oceanpoint Ranch first time, the place hidden in Cambria, located next to the ocean. The hotel is built in unique ranch style. Our room was cozy, but kind of small with all necessary amenities. If you walk a little to the back if the hotel you will find a great view to the ocean and long nice walking trail along the coast. The nature is beautiful and serene. This hotel is great to spend a quiet and peaceful time with loved ones or even for a family. I would definitely come back again. read more

Stayed here recently and was very impressed with my room - very clean, nicely decorated and for a great price. The only reason why I am giving 4 stars is due to their breakfast room. It smelled strange and they really need to remove the fake grass "wallpaper". Plus, they could use to layout the food in a nicer manner and wipe off the outside tables. Sweet, clean and private. This is a truly lovely and relaxing g place to stay in Cambria. If you want a peaceful getaway, this is your place. It is right on the ocean, they have free coffee all day and welcome your arrival with fresh baked cookies. The rooms have been newly refurbished with a folksy/funky flair that feels very welcoming. We upgraded to a room with a fireplace and they happily offered to move our bags to the new room for us while we spent the day out. Excellent service. I'm a sucker for older, charming and historic, when done right. But (tragically on our honeymoon), San Simeon Pines tripped on the fundamentals. First: The website will tell you about the resort's "nine acres of landscaped gardens, historic Cypress Trees and Monterey Pines", and will show gorgeous green grass in the photo gallery. Well, most of that nine acres is a now-closed golf course, and none of it is green. As a Californian, I'm acutely aware of the drought, but this has been allowed to go to seed. The gardens? A few sickly roses, Birds of Paradise and other water-starved plants. As for "other amenities", the pool is closed for renovations and has been for some time, apparently. The continental breakfast is generous and hearty...it's a shame the view from the breakfast room is of the dumpsters being used for the renovation of the first couple of rooms. But the big disappointment comes on night two. I'd reserved the best room at San Simeon Pines, number 87. Partial ocean view (gorgeous) and fireplace. San Simeon Pines provides wood, matches and a pre-packaged fire starter kit which is the only way to get the cow-patty shaped wood discs to catch fire. Worked perfectly on night one. On night two, we came back after dinner at the Sea Chest to find housekeeping had forgotten to leave a new starter kit. No problem, I told my bride, and walked to the office, where the night clerk searched the office, then took me on a tour of the housekeeping room and an on-property barn in search of one of these little packets. 25 minutes later, the verdict was "we must be out." I told her we'd settle for the lone Duraflame log in the barn. She told me she might get in trouble. I paid $280 a night for a room with a fireplace that only worked for one night. But no alternative was offered, much less compensation. My bride and I are pretty easygoing people, so this wasn't a honeymoon-ruining experience. But I can't recommend San Simeon Pines, much as I'd love to. The new owners, who own most of the other properties on Moonstone Beach, have a good reputation and have successfully renovated a string of older motels in the past few years. I'll be interested to see what they do with San Simeon Pines. But they've had the keys for five months, so all the minuses I've just listed are on their watch. read more

We were able to get an early check-in, which was a positive step. However, upon entering our room, we found that it was an ADA room and very dark. Upon further investigation, we found the floors to be filthy and stuffy. We opened the sliding door to air out the room. We then decided to request to move to different room with more light and were informed this would be an upgrade for an additional $20 charge. Our new room was much cleaner but the same exact room which did not justify the upgrade charge. Further, the restaurant attached to the hotel advertised a "1/2 chicken dinner" which is actually a piece of chicken with over salted spinach. A very disappointing experience overall. read more

Cute old and relatively affordable. their accomodations have the pool and short golf course. Horseshoes and shuffleboard. Who knew shuffling could be so fun. But what is really fun is the trails across the street. Or just down the road is Moonstone beach. Go and pick some naturally tumbled moonstones and jade and if you are lucky a gorgeous shell will catch your eye and your heart. Wear big pockets and stuff you don't mind getting wet. It'll be a good layed back day at a cool beach. But the accomodations... It's outdated with some sad bed throws. The rooms are large and alot open on to either lawn or a little patio. You won't stay here for the rooms. It's sitting on the lawn and enjoying the super slow lifestyle. I got so hooked on their Adirondak chairs I went home and bought two for my own yard! Their breakfast is most definatley carb based. I had to reconcile how cereal, fruit and toast would do it for the day. So we ended up grabbing eggs when we went down to Moonstobe beach. Don't worry you'll work off the carbs on the many walks and trails. But maybe they could add a cheese platter for some protein. Grab some tea or coffee or cocoa in the lobby at night where they have a roaring fire. Go back to the room and open a bottle of local wine. I promise it will be an enjoyable experience. Just not quite 5 star. We don't always have to have 5 star to have a fantastic time! read more

We stayed here this past weekend and were very impressed. The rooms were beautiful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only downfall was that my family and I rented the suite rooms and thought the kitchens would be fully stocked with bowls, kitchenware, etc. for a weekend of making breakfast and dinners. My husband and I stayed at this cute property for our wedding anniversary. We loved the location, just a short walk to the ocean for tidepooling and shell/ moonstone rock searching. The room was super cute, rustic decor, just as we like it. The property had mutiple gas firepits, perfect for roasting marshmellows, plenty of games (cornhole, croquet, etc), and an outdoor movie on Friday night with blankets on the ground, very cozy. I really liked my stay at this resort? hotel? cottage? Truthfully, it felt like a cabin and less like anything else which is not a bad thing. PROS: 1. Little golf course right next to the ocean. My husband and I had so much fun. Feet were completely wet once we were done because the grass was wet but we knew what we were in for. 2. The rooms were decorated nicely. Simple but still clean, cozy and cute. My favorite was the window seat. Some of the rooms had fireplaces. 3. Quiet and relaxing. 4. Friendly and helpful staff. 5. Easy and close parking. CON: 1. Breakfast was forgettable but the women who is in charge works very hard to keep everything filled. TIP: Maybe no one else had a hard time figuring out where the reception was but we did. When you drive in to the parking lot next to the sign, its the building that stands out a bit on the left. OVERALL: I recommend this place. read more

We booked this place for two nights and only stayed one. Worst Cambria hotel stay in 40 years of visiting the area. How this hotel has a 3 star rating is a mystery. Seemed run down and not cleaned well. 1) Small dark musty room with no closet or luggage storage. Hotel provides a small ugly galvanized water pipe in plain view to hang your closes. We just left our clothing in our luggage. 2) Dark bathroom with low water pressure, no tub, dark shower,no ventilation with condensation dripping from walls and ceiling after a shower (musty room odor), toilet configuration requires sitting sideways. Limited bathroom supplies. 3) Room wood burning fireplace set off fire alarm around 10pm and required staff in our room (amid covid) to clear out smoke with a fan. Based on smell of room at check in I would guess this is a common occurrence . 4) The hotel provides guest with a small burlap sack of wood product about the size of a one gallon jug. What was not disclosed at check in is that if you want more than one fire during your stay the hotel will charge you $10 per bag even though a fireplace room is a so called upgrade. There is a sign on the fireplace saying if you use wood from a source other than hotel you will be fined $50. If you want a room with a fireplace there are more environmentally friendly hotel choices on Moonstone drive with natural gas that don't charge guest every time you want more than one fire. 5) Called hotel after check out and informed them we had left my cell phone charger in our room. Seems no attempt was ever made to find it. Approximately $80 loss for us. 6) Two days after check out the hotel placed an unauthorized charge on my credit card of over $100. Called hotel and spoke to manager and couldn't' get an explanation that made sense to me, only that the charge will be refunded . If you are looking at reviews and photos on this hotel proceed with caution and read "ALL" reviews. Staff are in desperate need of hospitality and guest relations training and in our opinion staff are currently a direct reflection of upper management. We will never stay at Ocean Point Ranch again, nor will we stay at any Pacifica Hotel Cambria Collection hotels until management is replaced and staff are properly trained. There are much better choices in Cambria where you can expect to be treated with respect, and as an important guest. At this hotel, my view is that guest are an annoyance. read more

We were driving through Cambria along the water seeing the other places all sold out, until we saw a vacancy sign at the end of the row. We stopped on a whim to see what they had open and were more than pleasantly surprised that they had a cottage open, with a fireplace, a private porch looking at the ocean, and steps from a quaint little pitch-n-putt golf course, croquet, and shuffleboard. All the staff were nice and friendly. The room was clean and tidy. Wood rounds to keep a fire going for hours. The golf course was fun and a quick walk to the ocean. And the price was half of what we would have paid at the other places on the street. We will go back for sure, and would recommend it to any and all. Grade A+ experience. read more

Our room was comfortable and cozy. Had a mini-fridge but no microwave. Coffee machine available upon request. We didn't get a fireplace room (maybe next time). Loved being able to park right outside our room. No elevators or hallways to worry about (great COVID getaway location). Fire pits were easy ("push the button" easy), fun, and relaxing. The drive was only about 10minutes, too! The Inn is at the beginning of the Moonstone Beach Dr but the price is cheaper than those motels that are right by the ocean on moonstone beach dr. The drive to the ocean side from this inn is literally like 5 minutes. It was cold and we turned on the heater. Wasn't sure it was working so we left it on and went to dinner and came back. It was working fine. The hot air was only coming out from the bottom of the heater. It was very hot at night because we left the heater on maximum and woke up to turn off the heater and open the door for 5minutes which fixed everything. Free WIFI! Free Continential breakfast is served in a small house look a like building. Fruits, Cereal, Juice, Milk, Muffins, Coffee and hard boiled eggs were provided. Typical simple breakfast but good enough start the trip's day. Check out at 11am. Great deal!!!! read more
