Incredible ocean front hotel located at the tip of Moonstone Beach! I've stayed here several times with my wife and each time we can't wait to return. The ranch offers endless amenities for the entire family or for a romantic getaway, including a pool, fire pits, shuffle board, game room and more! The property is located directly across from a state park that features panoramic views of the central coast. There are several benches located on these bluffs, which are perfect for to read a book or to watch the sunset. I understand the hotel industry is still recovering after the past 18 months of covid, but this experience was notably disappointing and overpriced. I simply noted all my concerns into a list during my 2 day, mid-week stay. This is how it went for a roughly $350/night stay: Room: -The rooms have an interesting concept (ranch theme), but it doesn't live up to the promise of the photos (dirty/not well maintained). -Entry light switch didn't do anything. No central light, only lights on the bedside table or bathroom. -Bedside lamp had two different color bulbs, outlets at base of lamp didn't supply power (broken). -Tub has a broken plug (not attached to drain, pulls out, broken screw) -Temp scale on bath tap wildly inaccurate, and difficult to set bath or sink tap to warm (cold or blistering hot only) -Heat bulb in bathroom died, replacement and/or maintenance unavailable in early evening -No ac/fan, only a heater. -Hair in daughters bed upon arrival inspection -Decorative door to mini fridge broken -No vents in bathroom. The window that used to exist has been boarded up. Therefore, no fresh airflow when the family showered/bathed. -Ants attacked any food in bins -Carpets need to be cleaned. Our feet and socks became extremely dirty. Felt unsafe considering we had a baby in the room, and food on the floor is a common thing with kids. -Not a single in room chair, let alone desk or place to sit. Cantina (on site restaurant): -Cantina wasn't open on scheduled hours. -Canteen staff was aggressive at entrance, didn't assist with door (carrying baby) and pushed his way past us. Ignored us at the counter and happily talked to staff and avoided making eye contact with us until he had finished all other potential duties and we were next on his list. Service/Staff: -Arrived 2 hours early (my fault, not the hotel's fault). Staff said they'd call me when the room was ready. No call was ever received, and I just had to wait till check-in time. There was no bathroom available, and they sent us to the state park beach toilet (5 min walk on a trail to get there). -No plates available when requested. -Staff never asked about feedback upon checkout. Common Area: -Closest ice machine out of order -Pool was cold -No safety consideration for kids around the pool. My 4 year old could open the gate on her own, and our room was next to the pool -All the game equipment was in disrepair I sent an earlier set of my notes in a feedback request email that I got after my stay. First time to Cambria and was looking for a retreat location for our nonprofit organization leadership team of 6. Found this place after searching online. Had multiple conversations with the staff on email and phone before arriving to get an idea of what to expect. We were limited in budget and could only stay one night but decided to splurge a little since it had been two years since we had a retreat. We were very happy with our stay and amenities. I stayed two nights and wish I could stay longer. The fire pits and various sitting areas, eg rose garden, game room, Canteen were so helpful to our group. Liked how there were lawn games as well. We enjoyed the fire pits and s'mores. The property is at one end of moonstone beach. While you don't necessarily get the view of the beach it's a short walk to the beach (and nearby public park) and you get instead the spacious grounds. We ate at the canteen the first night which was convenient and tasty. You can walk/bike the whole mile or so of ocean front strand/pathway and can reach other restaurants by walking or biking as well. The king rooms were the right size for us, single to two-person occupancy. Bathroom/bath tub/shower area is a little narrow, but manageable. The staff were friendly and accommodating, I appreciated the "ranch" decor that ties the whole place together and having the big fluffy, warm blanket during the chillier night. We were all staying near each other next to the rose garden. I look forward to coming back with my family! And trying out the 80-degree heated pool! read more

Great little hotel only about a 12 min drive from Hearst Castle. Very clean and thoughtfully decorated. The grounds are beautiful and it's only a few minutes walk to the ocean. We ate dinner at their restaurant called, "The Canteen." Food was tasty but a bit on the expensive side. Location is close to the downtown area where we visited a local cafe and shopped at a huge antique store. Cambria is a great town to visit on the California Coast. read more

Came after a long drive with family and the room wasn't ready, asked to come back. We came back later and the room was STILL not ready. So after a long drive, a 5 yr old with us, we all needed a restroom, needed to get ready for dinner, tired from a long drive, they finally gave us an "upgrade" a King Fireplace. The room is more dated/used than the photos online. The fireplace was dirty and had no wood (I had to walk back to lobby and ask--for it, fun not). The room got real smokey, we had to open the door, smoke was billowing out, and we all smelled like smoke. The bathroom towels were like cardboard. Bed was not comfortable and pillows flat. Pros: Nice location, nice outdoor amenities, although close to highway traffic noise. Nice trail to kid/family friendly cove, beach. All in all, having grown up in the SF Bay area, where places like this; bed and breakfast etc. in N. Calif. blow away the ones down here in So Cal overall--still. I'm also tired of what seems like the new California Way, where service is like a luxury now, the people working are like doing you a favor for your hard earned money (and they want $15+ and hour.) The property looks nice from the outside. The room was a different story. What stood out by far was the bathroom. Fungus in the shower along with calcium deposits. The floor was two different colors, that's how dirty the traffic area was. It's hard to describe how disgusting the toilet was where the lid is attached. The bedroom area was OK, the room dated and definitely needed updating. The price we paid per night would have allowed us to stay anywhere along Moonstone Drive. First, I want to say this hotel is beautiful, rooms are very nice and the front office staff were very friendly (thank you Crystal and Zack). My problem was with the way management handled my issue. My card was ran three times for my two night stay due to a error with the hotels computer system. This resulted in me not having access to over $1,000 I had saved for my family to have a nice weekend. I received no compensation at all, the supervisor did not think I was important enough to speak directly to. This is horrible management and I want to urge future guest to please make sure they don't run your card more than once. This will most likely happen to you. My family and I will not be returning and I have filed a fraud claim with my bank against this hotel. We will see if I get my money back but that won't give me my weekend back unfortunately. read more

We stay here a lot. Never again. After paying for a premium room with bathtub and fireplace, all out of firewood. Can't help us but $50 credit for breakfast. Breakfast was delivered to our room on time. It was so cold the toast cut the roof of my mouth. We called front desk, apparently they get that complaint all the time. Nothing done about it. Early afternoon we call front desk to say batteries in remote are dead. When maid comes pls change batteries, leave face clothes and firewood. We return to room at 5 pm. NOTHING DONE!! Ps. No firewood we were told to go buy our own. No batteries. Apparently they had to call a guy and they're waiting for him to call back. BATTERIES!! It is not the same place. This is a very cool hotel right on the outskirts of Cambria right by the beach. The service we received a check in and check out was sublime. Both Zach and Damien were beyond helpful. Zach went very far out of his way for me on the night of check-in, which I really appreciated. The rooms are clean and well appointed. They have a bunch of gas fire pits outside, and a lot of fun activities for the kiddos. They even have plastic bulls and lassoes for you weekend cowboys out there! The only problem we ran into was ants on our dresser in the morning. The heater in the room was also a bit antiquated, but it definitely did the trick. We will be back here. read more

We booked our stay at Oceanpoint Ranch for the start of a road trip after going to Hearst Castle. The website makes you think you're going to stay at an eclectic, updated hotel. Our room (129), was dingy, dirty and so dark. There is no front window, only a sliding glass door leading to a "patio" that is overgrown and used as storage. The bathroom has a window that is part of another rooms outdoor space, which we kept closed, because that's strange. There is no AC, so there is no air movement unless the slider is open. The outdoor lawn area was nice and we enjoyed the games and the game room. We were so disappointed with the accommodations and lack of cleanliness. The decor was probably very cute when the marketing pictures were taken, but the cuteness has worn off and everything feels dingy and in need of a deep clean. Unfortunately, we will not be returning and while Moonstone Beach is a cool area, this hotel is not worth the money. read more

We were here last weekend for my son's pre-birthday celebration. Becky the lady who helped me with the reservation gave me tips on how to maximize my Hearst Castle trip. She gave me an explanation of how the kids would love the property- and we all did! The property is six minutes away from Hearst Castle, the amenities are great--has a heated pool so the kids though freezing went swimming; has fire pits all over the property; has a secret path to the beach; the backside is just something you see in a post card; the game room is just right for the kids; provides fancy toiletries and not your usual Pantene (little extras make the stay worth it); and the property is new! Customer service during reservation and during stay is consistently excellent and genuine. The canteen closes early so we had the chance to eat breakfast and everything that we ordered was great! The pancake and bacon were one of the best that we have had. Come and stay at this new and hip ranch style hotel and enjoy your own access to the beach and the fire pits and games inside and outside the property! read more

Arrived at the hotel at 7:40 to an empty lobby and a note with a smiley face saying the person would be back at 8:20. Um what!??? I never got a heads up or a phone call that I'd have to wait for my room. Drove to a restaurant to use the restroom and left my mom in the lobby. Several people popped in for various needs to be met by NOTHING. As Irma returned from her break, I was obviously annoyed. I told her we'd been waiting an extended period of time to which she answered, "we have a right to go to lunch". Zero apologies. Clearly she doesn't care about hospitality or this establishment. If I owned this business, I'd be embarrassed by how my employees treated the people that supported my business. read more

Don't be fooled by how picturesque it is. It is a beautiful location, and if you have a dog, you will be very happy. When we arrived to check in the attendant seemed a bit frazzled and nervous. That was my first sign that she was overworked. I think one of the main issues is that they they use outside agencies to book rooms so they can't keep up with what is happening to their own Reservations system. When you start to actually live in your room, you will find that it is not what you expected. Our tv, phone and some plugs did not work. We later discovered that we were missing the floor lamp in our room. We were never able to reach anyone in the front desk by phone when we tried to confirm our reservation or when we tried to reach them as we discovered things that did not work. We always had to go to the front desk. There is only one person who works at the front desk at a time. So, when they leave to take a break, lunch, or dinner, there is no one there to help you. When I walked up to the desk, The attendant was at dinner, and when she returned, she knew something was wrong. I told her to get situated, and she said usually people yell at her when she comes back. That's an indication that there's a problem. I told her I don't yell but I do inform. We finally had to move rooms because we just couldn't get comfortable with so many things that weren't there in the room or were not working. When we got to the new room, the coffee maker didn't work. This morning we went to have breakfast at the CowTipper and were charged nearly $12 for 2 cups of coffee that they feature as-having Starbucks. We did not stay for breakfast because the attendant started with what they did not have available. We still have one more night. If you must stay in Cambria, you would do better to stay at the Fireside Inn down the way, though, not as picturesque , it's beautiful, clean, remodeled and the fragrance is wonderful. It doesn't allow pets and there's no grass, but you have the ocean across the street. I would recommend Cambria Mimosa for a good hearty breakfast. read more

We held our wedding here in October 2018 and it was truly amazing. My then fiance (now husband!) and I searched all throughout California for a venue that was quintessentially "Californian" and would accommodate all of our 150 guests for the weekend. We found this place by luck - we were vacationing in the area with a few friends and decided to visit some venues. After completing a tour with the gracious front desk person (Alexis), my very picky fiance immediately knew that this was the place! Our friends and family booked all the rooms in the hotel for the weekend - and the whole wedding weekend was truly a joyful revelry! Pam, the coordinator was incredibly supportive and communicative throughout the process. The grounds, house, kitchen and front desk staff were all incredibly dedicated, helpful and just easy to work with. I guess, living in Cambria - one can't help but adopt a friendly attitude. Our guests all commented on how impeccably cleaned the rooms were upon arrival, the comfy bedding, and fun activities within and around the hotel. Most importantly, the catering was quite well done! Our guests repeatedly commented on how much they enjoyed the seemingly neverending array of delicious dishes that were served, by a very attentive staff. The best part of all was they gave us the grounds as a blank canvas to use in realizing our vision. We were so excited to have our first foray out of the house since the COVID stay home orders in March. We desperately needed to get out and get a change of scenery and feel a bit of joy. We had previously stayed at another lovely hotel overlooking the ocean however, the photos on Oceanpoint Ranch's website swayed me to book a room here. We decided to get a Lone Star Cabin after speaking to reservations and explained to him that we would like to be able to sit outside our room and meditate and soak in the ocean breeze. We arrived after visiting a winery in Paso Robles and I was excited to take a bath in their four claw tub. We walked into the front desk and we were greeted by a a very unfriendly" receptionist...which is so surprising since you'd think people would be happy to be 1. working 2. having guest stay at their hotel during these uncertain times. The room is not anything like the photos on the website, it is like being in a cave... there are absolutely no lights to brighten the room. It feels like an old motel remodeled but not cleaned very well. They hired an amazing photographer to make it look clean, modern and comfy. It was far from that. the door that opens in the back was old and rusty as well as the window in the bathroom. We were also disappointed with the chairs that we hoped to meditate in, turned out to be two chairs facing an old fence, scruffy yard and rubbish that we could stare at. SO much for relaxing... If you decide to remodel why not pay attention to these details and especially during this time, clean the rooms properly!!! If one pays $250 per night we not expect to see such filth on windows, mirror and doors. We also tried to call reception multiple times and no one answered, be prepared to be self sufficient. There is no coffee machine, microwave, a closet or breakfast provided. I can't wait to hit the road tomorrow morning. BEWARE! They will charge your credit card an additional $50 after you check out. I was never told that they would make this charge and had to see it on a credit card statement. It is supposed to be for Incidentals. My family looks forward to our coastal road trip from San Diego every year for over 10 years now. In the last few years we make sure to stop in Cambria for a night or two on the way up and on the way back and this Inn is one of our favorites! We've stayed at several places on Moonstone Beach drive and it's hard to go wrong but our kiddos especially love the grounds at Fireside Inn, the game room, pool, and walk to Leffingwell Landing. Also love the convenient location that's walking distance to moonstone beach bar & grill. Sunset walks along moonstone beach boardwalk are always a highlight. No clue how this place can have all these glowing reviews. It is the absolute worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The online photos must have been from their open house "show rooms" because the real rooms are far from those. No closet, filthy tubs, poor lighting (one lamp in the entire room & no overhead lighting), and the list goes on. It's like staying at a run down Motel 6. Guests staying near the pool are constantly running across all the patios and our patio had a step down from the door with no warning. Almost seriously injured myself. Staff is not accommodating. No coffee pot in the room unless you ask. No bathroom replacements unless you track down a housekeeper or go to the office. You have to ask for everything from toilet paper, tissues, soap, shampoo to towels. Water is super hard so if you forgot to bring lotion from home you are outta luck. We ordered one breakfast burrito to share because it sounded huge, it wasn't. It listed as 11.00 dollars and we were charged 19.00 because of a "delivery fee". Ended our trip up the coast in Pacific Grove at a lovely little place called The Sunset Inn where all the little amenities you expect were included. Don't waist your money on Ocean Point Ranch. This charming hotel right off the California coastline was the perfect getaway for our annual girls trip! The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. The general manager Kristopher had great recommendations for what we might enjoy in Cambria and near by towns. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. Besides the amazing ocean view only steps away, we especially enjoyed movie night on the lawn, warmed by the fire pits. We will definitely be back! We've seen this place a couple of times when we have visited Cambria. Decided to stay, so happy we did. Check in was easy and the staff was very nice and professional. The rooms are adorable with a bit of modern farmhouse design. The room has a fireplace that the front desk will provide the first package of firewood at no charge. If you don't want to use the fireplace the room is equipped with a wall heater that works very well on a chili night. There are restaurants and pizza establishments that are near if you're hungry. The beach is right across the street from the establishment if you want to picnic, walk the trail or just view the beautiful Pacific Ocean They have a croquet area, fire pit. I would definitely stay here again. The also have a restaurant next door that serves breakfast to your door in the morning. ( What Matters Most) review for a standard room Pros - - I like this location on Moonstone because it's quiet and has great beach trail access across the street. - Lot's of grass at the south end of property to walk through ( used to be a small golf course) - The row of rooms gives it a nice old school resort feel. - Office staff was nice - Very good value for those that want a moonstone experience on a budget. Cons - - Rooms are old and dated. Carpet, bedding, furniture. - Very dusty room ( bring allergy medicine) - Beds are very uncomfortable. - Our TV was very very old, but another room had a small flat screen. - golf course closed ( probably permanently ) - Sorry, no trustable Wi-Fi here. Cell phone access is spotty at best too. Recommendation - If you're passing through for the night, this could be a great find. NOTE - They seem to be in a long upgrade plan where some of the rooms / cottages have been updated a bit, but there are still a bunch of rooms that are in desperate need of updating. Disappointing to say the least. We stayed here for two nights. We tried to get an earlier check in because we arrived in town around 12 and they said the lock on all the doors were broken and needed to be fixed so to come back at 4. The first night the power went out at 8pm, no heater, no lights until everything came back on at 2am. We mentioned this to the front desk who said the whole town lost power and that was it, not helpful. The Cow Tipper next store which is owned by the hotel was supposed to serve breakfast from 7-12pm when we got there they said no food would be served due to a problem they were having. We ordered 3 lattes and they tasted like she forgot to add coffee, just watered milk. The location is nice but the staff is very lacking and not helpful. We would not stay here again. read more

Stayed here during the Thanksgiving holiday and what an amazing place this is. We were driving around Cambria trying to find a place to stay for the night before we continued north towards San Francisco. We saw the beautiful grounds, location, and the outdoor gas fire pits and we were lucky to find a last minute reservation on Expedia. The young man at the front desk was very nice. He checked us in and gave us a few hotel tips. We parked our car in front of our room. Our room had 2 full beds with a nice patio through the sliding door. It's also had a wall heater that we didn't really like because it got too warm next to the bed that was next to it, and not warm enough near the other bed that was furthest from the heater. I liked that the room was very clean, especially the bathroom. I always do a cleanliness check. Our room didn't have a fireplace so we went to the outside gas fire pits. They automatically shut down before 10pm so that was a bummer, but understandable since they are close to rooms and guests need to sleep. Our bed and pillows were comfortable and we had a good nights rest. In the morning, we went to their restaurant (it was closed for indoor seating) and we grabbed a fresh cup of coffee and hit the road. read more

When we parked and were unloading, I started to bring my bags in and my boyfriend stopped me. "Don't unload yet, just go and look at the room, just look at it, and come right back." I figured it must be either really bad or really good, based on the look in his eyes. It was really good. We had such a great time here. Great mix between low-key luxury and a kind of backyard BBQ vibe. We stayed in a Lone Star Cabin for one night and I wish we had booked at least one more. The room was absolutely beautiful- clearly remodeled recently with high quality materials (I should know after remodeling my house...). They put a seal on the door so you know they've been in to clean after the last guest. Nice comfy bed next to a fireplace, which they give you a kit for. So cute. Lots of opportunities outside for fun- they have some bonfire / picnic areas for small groups and it looks like there's a food truck when it's not COVID-19 season. There is a huge grassy area that is partially fenced for dogs to exercise. Also a short path down to an adorable little beach where we saw dolphins. I think families would like this place because of all the space and potential activities on site, like cornhole / washers and such. The staff were really nice. They gave us a list of restaurants when we checked in detailing which ones were open during COVID-19. Not only which ones were open, but whether or not they would do delivery and if they offered free delivery, and a phone number. Everyone was helpful and friendly. Cambria is a quieter little town between Big Sur and San Luis Obispo. If you're looking to get away from crowds, it's got nice (if less dramatic) beaches and some good restaurants. Vintage Old looking bathroom tiles , Dirty , hadn't been scrubbed clean to look like decent. Front window missing shear curtain , side window missing curtain pull handle. Back patio unswept and patio chairs filthy. No real pretty landscaping near back patio.. that faces unattractive ( chain link fence) . What a gorgeous property, right across the street from the beach. You can't really see the ocean, but you can definitely hear the waves at night! We really loved the fire pits. The front desk sells a S'mores kit for $10 and it was a nice touch. There are lawn games and board games, as well as a heated pool. Free on-site parking. The option to have breakfast delivered from the on-site restaurant was very convenient. Deducting 1 star because our room was not clean. In the fridge, we found a half-empty bottle of vodka, coffee in a to-go cup, lemon, lime and some muffins. In the shower were the previous guest's toiletries! I don't think our room was even looked at by a housekeeper. read more
