Invited by a visiting friend this was my first time dining here. The service was prompt and friendly. I ordered from the Happy Hour menu. The #CharbroiledOysters was my favorite of the four items ordered. I'm not sure if $7 for two is a deal The #WedgeSalad was a bit wilted and a lot of dressing. However it could be I just didn't get a good one. My friend ordered the wedge too and his looked fresher and didn't have as much dressing. The #ShrimpTempura had a heavy batter and looked more like how they batter Fish & Chips. The calamari itself was a good cut. Very strange experience. Seems like a place that wants to go under. Place was empty on a Friday night at 6:30. We sat at the bar. Bartender was efficient, like a robot. Zero personality. So much for hospitality. I order the top Sirloin, my friend orders fish and chips. Top sirloin comes out and it's tiny, I ask about the portion size. The bartender has manager come over. He agrees to replace my order with the fish and chips. Okay, took about 20 minutes to replace my order... Seems like a long time to prepare fish and chips - whatever. Check arrives and I could not read it, so I ask the bartender to explain the check for me. He's evidently pissed at me, barely has the patience to speak. I ask , "is there something I've done to anger you?" He tells me "just leave, nobody here wants you in this restaurant." I've never been spoken to in this way by a server. I was a server and a bartender while in college. This would get you fired back then. I was taken aback by this guy's demeanor. Needless to say, no tip for him after that! On the way out I mentioned this behavior to the manager. He said he would speak with the employee. By now it's only about 7:15. Place is still empty, maybe 10 customers. We left and were talking about all of this for a few minutes out by our cars. While we were waiting in the parking lot, this bartender comes out and confronts me. Yelling, "how dare you tell the manager about me! " I've never heard of anyone doing this. Absolutely ghetto behavior. I called the manager and explained all of this with him. I love coming here for happy which is EVERYDAY from 11-6. Great options, staff is always friendly. Great views on both patios (doggie friendly on the front patio). One of my favorites are the mussels!! So good!! I also love their clam chowder, chicken lettuce cups, ahi nachos and the crème brûlée. They also carry one of my favorite beers: space dust. Went here on a Saturday for dinner. Got seated quickly. Restaurant inside was empty. We wanted outside but were quickly ushered to a table and told that outside seating would be 45 minutes. Ok. Waitress comes over. We are all chit chatting around the table and she only takes drink and appetizer orders for half of us (party of 8). We don't realize what happened until people started showing up with our appetizers before we even had our drinks. Needless to say my MIL was not happy since she had been talking the place up the entire way there. Like she was very offended that she wasn't asked to order a drink or appetizer by the time our appetizers had already come. And rightfully so. The waitress was flustered, we were flustered. It just laid a cruddy foundation for the meal. And now for the meal. The total for 8 of us including 2 kids was $400. We had a few appetizers and some alcohol. Was it worth it? Food was good but not $50 a person good. My husband's $30 meal was literally 3 scallops and a skewer of super-market sized shrimp. Drinks from the bar? Sub par. Michelada mix was straight Clamato. Cosmo came clear and that's where I knew the waitress had no idea what was going on. It's a cosmo, girl. Where's the cranberry? MIL states she only comes here for happy hour and we see why. You're served in the bar area for happy hour. Appetizers are on special and so are drinks. She's always had great service. Says it's way better for the money. We became familiar with this location when we visited the fish market on Sundays several weeks ago. We decided to return and try this restaurant for a light lunch. The day was perfect so we sat outside on the front patio facing the side marina. They seem to have I think an all day happy hour so we opted to have a few of those items. Overall, the food was pretty good, especially for the value. Service was super friendly and helpful and she was very nice to our dog that we also brought with. I wanted it to be a 20th anniversary to remember so I ask my wife where she wanted to go and she being a creature of habit suggested Oceanside Broiler. I said remember last time it wasn't so good and she said maybe they changed chefs, so I gave in because the ambiance, and the waitress's where very nice. Sunday night and there was plenty of parking and the main dining area look kinda empty. We like dining alfresco and was offered either the front or back patios. The front patio seemed more romantic so that's what we chose. Irish the waitress was very attentive and nice and me always looking to get a little extra dropped the hint that it was our 20th anniversary. Other then a a congratulations that was about all we got except a pretty bad tasting Cosmopolitan. Irish understood and brought me another drink. I had the fish and chips which are usually hard to mess up and the were pretty good and the fries were crispy but the coleslaw (which I always give to my wife as she is a connoisseur of good coleslaw) was rated at less then par, my wife said that the cabbage must have been grated early this morning and sauerkraut does not make for good coleslaw. My wife's grilled salmon look delicious and tasted great unfortunately the grilled veggies were not cook not even a little. See how being nice and giving away your salad can make for a good dinner? The food has gone to crap! My meal consisted of a 2 oz snapper with barely any Béarnaise sauce, and vegetables were very undercooked. The steamed clam appetizer was underwhelming, we got a plate of shells that we had a pick through them to get to the bottom. Server didn't bring us a plate to put our shells and he pretended not to hear us when we asked for a plate. Cook skimped on the clam broth and it tasted sweet like someone spilled a glass of wine on it. We expected the fruit cobbler to have fresh fruit that's baked with a pie crumble but this version was a gelatinous dark fruit glob on sponge cake with granola on top, gross! I try to support small businesses and local establishments but Oceanside Broiler has gone to crap, food is pretty much bottom of the barrel scraps and not worth paying for! Your chef sucks!! This restaurant made me sad. I should have known when I saw that it had not been updated since the 80s it looked like an old dennys. The daily ono special was ono with teriyaki sauce and they did not put the teriyaki sauce on it, on top of this the fish was dry and there were no seasonings on the fish or vegetables. The ahi poke nachos were a very unhealthy shade of pink not red. My son loves ahi and did not want to finish the nachos. The real problem here was the price of the menu items. Oceanside roiler is located at the Oceanside harbor. It's a great place to sit outside and enjoy the boats coming and going. It was a beautiful Tuesday afternoon. I came around 5pm, just in time for happy hour. You can sit anywhere to eat from the happy hour menu and it goes until 6 p.m. which is great. We got the last outdoor table and it was dirty. Our waitress, Deberah, noticed it and cleaned it. We ended up choosing everything from the happy hour menu that way we can taste test their food. We got the cup of Clam chowder. It had plenty of clams in it. 8/10. Next was the ahi tuna nachos. This one was my favorite. I liked the chunks of tuna and the drizzle of sauce 10/10. The coconut shrimp was pretty good. It came out crispy and coated with coconut. 10/10. The crab cake was also very good with mango salsa. 10/10. The garlic fries were OK. It wasn't my favorite. My family and I recently ventured here because my dad was telling me how good Oceanside Broiler was. My dad loves the deals and Oceanside Broilers prices are fair without lacking quality. They also are dog friendly which makes my dad happy. We decided to order a ton of items off the happy hour menu. We ordered the Crab Cake, Seared Ahi Tuna, Oysters, Fried Zuchinni, Clam Chowder, and the Coconut Shrimp. I personally didn't try the Crab Cake, but the others were happy with it. They said it was mostly crab which is unusual for the price. The Seared Ahi Tuna was amazing. The price for it was $10 and was served with eight pieces. We ended out ordering three of these because of how good they were. My Father was excited to have some oysters and he said these were amazing. They weren't too large and he said they were fresh. The Fried Zucchini was tasty and in the ranch was good. The rest of the group really enjoyed it. Personally I wouldn't order it, but it was good. The Clam Chowder was the only item that I wasn't impressed with. It lacked flavor and the texture felt like it had been sitting all day. I wouldn't recommend this, but maybe it was an off day. The Coconut Shrimp was my second favorite item. They were large and covered in coconut. The sauce with it and a little lemon was amazing. For the price, it was a great dish. The back patio faces the harbor and it's a nice little spot. If you have a dog, it is the perfect spot for them and they have a side exit if you need to take them to the bathroom. I forget our servers name, but she was amazing. She had a great attitude and was quick with bringing items. I was being a tad of a pain asking for extras and she was so sweet about it. I miss Jolly Rogers in the harbor. Supposedly Oceanside Broiler is owned by the same company. The clam chowder is tasty , which is what we usually get. But because it was my husband's birthday, we ordered regular entrees. We were both unimpressed with the service. My husband got Clams with Linguine and i ordered the Opakapaka. (These are both some of the more expensive items on the menu) The entrees are served without fresh bread or even a starter salad. How cheap can you get? So we ordered a side of fresh sourdough, and the waitress came back at the end of our meal and said " Oh, do you still want the bread?" My husband said not now, and she didn't even offer an apology. We go to the Broiler every time I get back home to California. We always sit outside in the back so that we can view the harbor. We always partake in their Happy Hour and we always have great food. We each had shrimp cocktails and Victoria had a Baja Fish Taco along with seared Ahi. I had the Blackened Salmon Taco with a Wedge Salad. The food was great as always!
