I am so thrilled this spot is in my neighborhood!! After a quick 9 holes at the OV Golf Course we stopped in for a much needed meal. The place was full at 0900 on a Saturday but the wait for tables moved quickly. NOTE: Counter service is NOT open seating, which is non-standard...thankfully we weren't the only ones to mosey there without seeing the hostess. The food was amazing. The egg white omelet was cooked perfectly, and grit cake was creamy and crunchy. Sausage gravy was on point as well. Now I'm the weirdo that likes SOS (creamed chipped beef on toast) so I ordered it over home fries. It was delicious and I actually cleaned my plate!! My only gripe was that it skimped a little on the chipped beef. Service was friendly and fast. 16/10 I'm already looking forward to my next meal there!! read more

Classic, family friendly diner with a menu packed with all the favorites. This place is perfect for a weekend brunch and is sure to put you in a food coma afterwards. The tables are a little close together but it wasn't a deal breaker by any means. Our server was friendly and attentive (my coffee cup was never anywhere near empty). My first time and worth the wait. Limited seating so get there early. The special breakfast goat bowl was amazing. Everything was fresh and goat was so juicy and tasty. The crabcake Benedict was delicious. I normally have my hollandaise sauce on the side just in case it gets drowned in it and can't taste the actual meal. It was perfect! The saue was not too thick. I have lived in Norfolk for 3 years now and never noticed this tucked away gem. It's a quaint little diner, calm and perfect for a relaxing morning! I called and put an order to go. They said it would be ready in only 10 mins! My order was ready when I arrived 10 mins later and the service was phenomenal. I was in and out and they didn't miss a beat, making sure my sauces and side requests were included. This is the breakfast burrito and home-fries. Now the home fries ain't worth writing home about but the burrito was spectacular. What can I say about this "hidden gem" tucked away in a strip center just off of Granby Street. I had been hearing about this place for some time from my wife, who, along with fellow educators, has frequented this establishment on several occasions. On my first visit, I threw caution to the wind and ordered the chicken & waffles. I must admit that they were INCREDIBLE! The waffles were golden brown, light, airy, and had a hint of malt in the batter. The chicken breast was large enough to cover the entire waffle! It was hand breaded and perfectly cooked. It was filling to the point that there was enough to take home for a late day, nosh! I chose the fresh fruit for my side, and it did not disappoint! The selection was balanced and pallete pleasing. My wife chose the vegetable omlette. Which is her standard, except she chose grits. She had no compland actually raved about the grits, which she usudoes NOT do! Our server was attentive and kept our beverages refilled even though the place started to get busy with the early lunch crowd! All in all, we will come back and make this a week day haunt when we can during the season and especially during the off season! read more

Oh my gosh! Local diner with the fluffy crisp pecan Belgium waffle. My husband had a Swiss and Mushroom Burger that was juicy and nicely seasoned. I also had the special of fried oysters Benny. I would have appreciated a couple more oysters. There were only 4 but what was on the plate was outstanding. Poached egg was perfect and Hollandaise was saucy and not like wallpaper paste. I'm a little confused by the reviews. I arrived about 1030 am, and sat at the counter. I am from out of town, so I use Yelp often, However, this particular spot I found to be very average. The coffee was good and hot. I ordered the Eggs Royale, think Eggs Benedict with Salmon. It arrived very quickly, and very lukewarm. Also got cheese grits, which they add a dollar I guess for the cheese. And a side of toast. The portion size I thought was not great. I don't mind spending money, this just did not seem worth 22.00. read more

They had a limited menu due to a mechanical issue with their hood fan. They only had a limited menu which is understandable due to the issue. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. The gravy had good flavor and I think it had celery in it which was different. The biscuits had okay flavor, they are kind of small (not very tall) and different being square. The staff is really nice . You can tell they've worked here for a while but the food is very regular which explains the cheaper prices compared to other places. I've got a waffle here several times and every time it's a disappointment. I like a nice crispy waffle but ov diners waffle are usually soft. Even though I request crispy. The reason I'm writing this review is because I got biscuits and gravy to go and the packaging was way below standard for me. At least put the gravy in a second container. Also the gravy and biscuits weren't edible. The sausage had a weird texture. Very gummy. and the gravy was un flavored. Today was the last time I'll go to the place. read more

I have visited Oceanview Diner three times for breakfast. The waitstaff are always very friendly and efficient. The coffee was hot and tasty. I know one time I drank Diet Coke and it was great. This may seem like an odd thing to say, but there are some restaurants I visit that have very unpleasant tasting Diet Coke, so I just drink water instead. The cheese omelette, eggs Benedict, and scrambled eggs were delicious. My husband wants you to know that the home fries are delightful. read more

Patronized this establishment this morning. As soon as I walked in I was met with smiles and hospitality. The place is quaint and comfortable. My seat was at the counter as I watched the television on the wall. The server wasted no time in bringing a menu and was very helpful and patient while I decided on what to order. She directed me toward the exact meal I was looking for. After my order was taken, the food was in front of me less than 15 minutes later. The portions were plentiful and just right. I had the "big combo" which consisted of one very large pancake, two eggs (but looked like three) three (yes, three) sausage patties and grits. The pancake was soft and fluffy. I live down the road from this business and so far my experience as been good! I enjoy their food and their customer service. I mainly stop for breakfast but their lunch menu looks appealing; I enjoy the variety they offer. Although sometimes, their breakfast gravy is a hit or miss. Sometimes it tastes great when they serve sausage gravy. Other times it doesn't come with sausage or any seasoning and tastes just like water and flour; not good! I also wonder about their portioning vs price. I understand cutting costs and portioning but, I feel like it could be slightly improved. E.g. I feel like I get just a spoonful of potatoes which leaves my plate looking a bit sad/empty for the price paid. Great job otherwise, thank you! read more

Good morning, Oceanview Diner! The landscape of Norfolk and Virginia Beach is littered with dozens of opportunities for breakfast, and I had the pleasure of trying one of the finest. I had the waffle and the four-piece side of bacon. I believe there are four dishes that really indicate the quality of breakfast establishment, and bacon is one of those; theirs is prepared on a gas grill, as there was some charring, but the bacon was still delicious, because it was the thin cut, it could survive the process without being overcooked, good job! I rank the bacon four out of five! I did not have an egg dish or potatoes, which are also two of the four foods that indicate a great breakfast, but I saw at the other tables looked well prepared, not overdone, maybe next time! I also had the waffle, and even though a pancake is one of the four foods that determines a great breakfast restaurant, I'm a waffle girl, and there waffles are perfect! Crispy, with a caramel color that comes from a seasoned griddle, not from being overdone, and sweet enough to go with minimal syrup, and the cups held up to the butter and syrup I added, which is key to a great waffle. 5 out of 5! I also had coffee, no barista drinks here but a good cups a Joe! Only minor complaint? The syrup wasn't warm, a personal preference of mine but not important to everyone. The Service and Ambiance were great, classic diner set up, I enjoyed my meal at the counter, and the coffee kept a coming!
