Best burgers in Porter County, maybe all of Northwest Indiana? Figgy Piggy is a particular favorite of mine (and I think most people). Good craft beer selection, good deserts, and price is right. Been plenty of times, never had a bad meal. Very happy they moved to a larger restaurant. It seems wait times have gone down as a result while the service and food quality remained great. If I had to nitpick (still gets 5 stars), I would say the restaurant is not very kid friendly, but we make due with our kids and it doesn't take a star away. read more

What a hidden gem Octave Grill is! The food is AMAZING! I sat at the bar to be served and the bartender was as on it! I asked about getting chicken instead of a burger with the fig jam and goat cheese, and it was no problem at all. And it was so delicious! The restaurant is small, personal, quieter side, and just what you want after a full day.I would come back here just to go to this restaurant.... Spent the afternoon at the dunes and was looking for a local place to grab dinner and let me say Octave Grill did not disappoint! Their menu options and amazing tallgrass feed beef burger options had us leaving satisfied and well worth the cost. The atmosphere was a cozy and easy access back to the highway. Great place in downtown Chesterton not that far from Dunes Park or the highway. Worth finding as the food and drink are really good and the setting is unique and colorful. Amazing, who would have thought coming from Chicago where the high end burger shops are a dime a dozen I would be taken to this little place and be blown away. Came here with a few friends for a bite to eat on a Friday and were lucky to be seated in no time. Looking over the menu my mouth watered with all of the choices. From signature burgers to chicken and other items on the sandwich side it was hard to decide. We started with chili cheese fries for the table and then contemplated the burger. I wanted to see if their meat could stand on its own merit with a cheese burger but it was recommended to have one of the many other ones listed, lucky for me a buddy had always wondered that as well so we split a cheese burger and the... It is slipping my mind. damn Cheeseburger - Cheddar w Bacon was cooked to the temp requested and was great. Other burger (I have to get the name of it) was amazing making me wish I didn't have to share. Beer selection was great for a place of this size with some amazing brews on tap and in bottles. With the help of the waitress and an owner they provided 2 great selections of their ever changing menu to go with the burgers and complement a crisp fall day. Service was impeccable going over the menu and answering questions as they came up. In such a small space they have created a welcome and cool place. This place is so tiny! My husband discovered it last year when he was in the area exploring. We happened in on a weekend when we were lucky enough to get a table as soon as we walked in. (I think we were just early and beat the rush.) I think maybe there are 10 small tables, but it could be fewer! They have a good selection of beers and even do flights. I had a lavender gin & tonic which was lovely as well. My husband is a fan of the Figgy Piggy burger with fig jam and bacon. I had the Hot Pants burger with bacon, spicy aioli, pepperjack cheese, and onion rings. They definitely get as much as they can from local or Indiana-based businesses. My burger was so tall I almost had to unhinge my jaw to get it in my mouth! Smashing was involved. It was very good, but due to the size, I couldn't finish it. I had a side salad, but I definitely recommend the sweet potato tots if you already like sweet potato. Those were a hit with the husband! Yum Yum Yum! If you crave an exceptional burger (grass-fed, free-range, hippy-dippy goodness) and a craft beer on tap, Octave Grill will not disappoint. Founders, New Holland, Smuttynose, Upland, and Greenbush are just a few of the regional breweries represented on draught. Although the seating area is limited, it's worth the wait. I would recommend having a beer or cocktail at one of the nearby taverns while you wait for your table. All the burgers are outstanding, and each side dish is top quality. I prefer the sweet potato tots, but the handcut fries are also fabu. I'm basically just going to echo all the other reviews because they are true. Small cozy place that sits about 25 people. They probably have more beer than seats, which is pretty awesome. Started off with the goat cheese fondue. The cheese was melted perfectly and extremely creamy. It was served with Apple, pita chips, grill zucchini and some sort of bake break chips. They were all delicious. Order the hmburaous burger medium rare. It was cooked perfectly. It was freaking delicious. Plain and simple. No need for all the details and adjectives. It was one of the best burgers I've ever had. Sweet potato tots were amazing. I normally have sweet potato fries served with a maple syrup sauce but their honey mustard knocked any other sauce out of the window. Must try! Went here after the wife had been reading reviews for a while about it. Only has 9 tables, so on a busy night you may wait a while, but totally worth it!!! The service is fast and friendly. Took care of us often and quickly. The menu is eclectic but not overwhelming, this isn't your typical burger place. Enough items to choose from but not be overwhelmed with too much. The drinks on tap is on the wall, and rally cool that they include alcohol content with each one. I had the Swine Mountain, absolutely awesome. My wife says the sweet potato tots are great but I think that sweet potatoes are awful so I'll take her word for it. Wife had Figgy Piggy burger and loved it as well. Tried the peanut butter brownie for dessert and we loved that too! Not a place I would take small kids or a large group, but for a fast quiet dinner it's perfect. We will be back! read more

Delicious! We were staying in Chesterton to visit the dunes and needed a place to eat - but selected carry out because of the COVID. It was delicious!!! Swine Mountain was mouth watering!!! The taco tots and the Mac & cheese with bacon were a crowd pleaser with my kids! They even brought our food out to our car so we didn't have to get out!!! Everything was cooked perfectly! How do they cook in that tiny kitchen without killing each other? (Peek when you go to the tiny bathroom). Service was good. Hubby had beer soaked Mac and cheese that was good. Five beers on draft. Cool looking cocktails featuring Journeyman, the craft distiller up the road in Michigan. Lunch for two (burger, fries, mac and cheese, salad and two teas) came in at under $30. When someone asks me for a restaurant recommendation, I tell them to trust me on my choice, don't question the driving distance, and then I send them to Octave Grill. The burgers, and toppings, are truly out of this world! The Figgy Piggy burger is a taste combination that will blow your mind! The French fries are perfect every single time, and you can upgrade to another flavor if you're feeling adventurous. Do make sure to save room for dessert, because their desserts are the icing on top of the cake of a great meal! My only issue with Octave, as of late, is that their portions seem to be getting smaller and smaller (please stop skimping on the fries, Octave), but overall it is still one of the better places to dine in this area. read more

Great little restaurant. We love it here and love the new location as much (or more) than the old. Burgers are amazing (hot pants baby ). Thank goodness for Yelp. This hole-in-wall restaurant would be the small town's secret otherwise. You would NEVER find this on your own. After searching Yelp in this area, I found this place. Everything I ordered was from recommendations of Yelpers. Appetizer: fried pickles. Awesome but thick cut. I personally like thin cut fried pickles....but great here still. Buff burger which was phenomenal, along with sweet potato tots which I've never had before, and very glad I tried. White chocolate brownie which was obviously home made. Served warm, with ice cream. While driving back from an event at the Elkhart fairgrounds, I used Yelp to find an interesting restaurant en-route. Only a mile or so off the highway, and boasting nearly 5 stars, I decided this would be our culinary adventure of the night. We passed a flurry of chain restaurants - including a Wendy's, which made me laugh, as we had a horrible experience earlier that day which prompted me to answer an online questionnaire that promised a free sandwich for my honesty. (I wonder if the free sandwich would also take 15 minutes to fulfill, as it did during this visit. Fast food? Not!) In anticipation of what where Octave would be located, we passed a drive-up ice cream shop that advertised a quinoa burger. Soon after, an acupuncturist, a few salons, and a fast-moving freight train that blocked the final block to Octave. Octave is located in a historic district, a block-long strip of turn-of-the-century buildings. Originally a barber shop, Octave has seating for 26 patrons. We found that every inch of space was used and were put on an electronic waiting list, and would receive a text once our table was ready. The hostess recommended a few places for a quick drink, one being "just up the stairs" to the south of Octave. The Irish House was indeed "just up the stairs" - had a small selection of craft beers on tap, and some amusing wall art. Once we received our text from Octave, I wondered how many got a trip in an ambulance after they failed an attempt to descend the old stairway. Octave's specials and tap list are written on a chalk board that takes up nearly an entire wall. We elected to a couple of menu burgers, and shared a can of craft beer featured on the wall. (I also conned my boyfriend into a shot of Malort, which they had listed on the menu as "The Chicago Handshake"... hehe..) Our burgers, the "Fried cheese" and "Hamburguesa", paired with taco tots and homemade fries. Everything was excellent - juicy burgers, lightly seasoned fries. For dessert, we shared the brownie with cookie dough gelato, which was also excellent - hard crust, warm soft center. And bonus - we got our entrees in a shorter amount of time than it did for Wendy's to fulfill our lunch-time order of a hamburger and a salad. (But no free sandwich for writing this review.. dangit!) We left satisfied, and didn't regret our visit during the rest of our 100 mile trip home. My diet resumes tomorrow. :-) read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here after spending the day at Indiana Dunes. It has a laid back atmosphere and I appreciated not having to be dressed up after a day in the sun.
