We are staying at the Hilton Boston Park Plaza for a week. I did a one star review for dinner at Off the Commons 5 days ago. My husband and I had 3 appetizers and two were truly awful! After reading the positive reviews for breakfast I decided to give it a try! My server was Wing. He made the meal extra nice with exceptional service! He was super attentive and anticipated all of my needs during the meal. I tried the eggs benedict with extra lemon on the side. It was deceptively filling and oh so good! While staying at the Hilton Boston Park, I had breakfast here. The bacon, multigrain bread, and eggs were perfect. The potatoes were boiled and some were burned to a crisp. So they were burned on the outside and then soft on the inside. The service was quick and friendly. Chic atmosphere. read more

I am a guest at the hotel and only had dinner here because the hotel provides a $15 / day food credit. I had the Vegan Mushroom Garganelli. Description said "Locally sourced wild mushrooms, English Peas, Cannelini Sugo". It was ... edible I guess. Not a mushroom in sight, really just looked like they boiled some noodles and threw some frozen peas over the top. I weigh 110 pounds so I don't need a huge meal, but I left hungry. Absolutely not worth the $31. Service was also ... fine. The server came to take my order about 2 minutes after I sat down and seemed unhappy with my asking questions. While he did check on me one time while I was eating with a "hows your meal" he left before I could even respond. Overall it was a disappointment and even though I am staying here for another 3 nights I will NOT be eating here again. read more

Was staying at the Hilton Boston Park Plaza so decided since it was getting late, rather than venture out that evening we would just eat in their restaurant Off the Common. Wrong decision! My partner ordered a chicken sandwich, per him, the chicken was bland, had no flavor, and despite the lettuce, tomato and dressing they had on the sandwich, the entire sandwich was totally tasteless. I ordered a salad that had chicken on it as well. The chicken tasted (what little taste there was) as if it had been cooked elsewhere and warmed in a microwave. The salad itself was grossly overdressed and not appetizing at all. The entire dinner was highly overpriced for what was served. Lesson learned, no plans to ever eat there again. read more

We ate at the restaurant in our hotel and honestly had high hopes since it's super convenient and the hotel was great. The vibe and setting were nice, but when we ordered wine, it was served warm which was unexpected. We asked if we could get a bottle instead to maybe get a cold one, but the server told us all their wine was warm, which was a little disappointing. Later on, I ordered a Tito's soda and it tasted super watered down. I didn't bother saying anything again after the wine convo--it just didn't feel worth it. Overall, the experience wasn't awful, but definitely felt like it could've been better with a little more attention to the drinks and the service. My wife ran Boston last year and stayed at this hotel (Hilton). She swore the food was delicious last year. So naturally running the marathon again, we ate here. We went down the evening before the race and got the worst service and worst food imaginable. I don't remember what she ordered, so I won't comment. HOWEVER, I recall what I ordered and it was terrible. Before I get into the food, I must caution you in the service. Our waiter was obviously busy with the influx of runners in the hotel. I totally get that. We saw the huge amount of people and placed a "to go" order with the waiter (who approached us, we were happy to order from the bar). We were sitting at this small table between the bar and the restaurant seating, but were practically sitting with a nearby table. That table ordered about five minutes after us yet received its food fifteen minutes before us. There was only two of us and didn't ask for any special preparations, so it was a little frustrating. The waiter came by and said he would check on our food but we needed to be patient. We didn't ask, or even inquire. He just told us. Kind of rude but I understand his frustration and irritation. When we got up to our room (same hotel), we unpacked to find there was no plastic flatware. So we went back and asked for some to be packed. Now the food. I ordered some "fancy" chicken with French fries and asparagus. I received the whitest, broiled, no seasoning chicken and three small asparagus sprigs (hand to God) with soggy fries. I used the utensil provided salt and pepper to season my bland AF chicken. I'm white, our waiter wasn't, and this is the blandest chicken I've ever experienced. -100/10 do not eat here read more

Staying at the Boston Park Plaza, they impose a daily use fee and give you back a $15 credit to use at the restaurants each day. I thought it would be better to eat there and use money I already spent instead of going out. I was wrong. The breakfast buffet is nearly $30/person. Figuring I wouldn't be able to eat much of that given I'm vegan and gluten free, I opted for a side of potatoes, a side of fruit, and tea. Welp, my bill still came out to $30, so do the math for yourself. It was an unfortunate situation. The food wasn't great either. The potatoes were crispy but weren't even seasoned with salt. The fruit was a bizarre selection of fruits that aren't even in season. That being said, the main area of the restaurant is a cool space. read more

I LIKE Off the Common. I'm usually a fan of the bar in hotels - like hanging out in them, and this is no exception. That said I don't necessarily feel you get your money's worth here. It just seems a tad more expensive than it should be. $24 for a glass of Prisoner, almost the same for the Simi Cabernet (delicious, by the way) when the bottle at Total Wine costs virtually the same. Yes, I understand and accept ( somewhat ) that establishments mark up alcohol fairly exorbitantly but, still. The food is slightly above-average bar fare. The flatbread pizza is tasty, as is the Rueben sandwich with fries. It was just hard to swallow the bill for that sandwich and wine at $60, including tip. Live and learn. Still, a fairly pleasant spot to spend some time. Service is basically efficient while not being overly friendly. Polite but little-to-no engagement. Seating is spacious and comfortable whether you choose a table or one of the bench/couches along the perimeter. So, in closing I'd say it is worth a visit if you're staying at the Boston Park Plaza. Just expect to pay for that wine. read more

Service - Excellent! Our waiter, Simeon was attentive, had great menu recommendations and always appeared right before we needed him. Ambiance - Even though it is in the lobby of the plaza, it has a comfortable feel and noise is average. Food - warm pretzels and butter were very good. Crab cake was excellent! Had a quick lunch here with my fiancé during our stay and was pretty underwhelmed for the price. $74 not including gratuity for one lobster roll, one chicken sandwich and six buffalo wings was pretty steep even for an expensive place like Boston. The buffalo chicken pops were decent but not at all worth a $16 price tag. The chicken sandwich was over cooked and dry. My fiancé however did enjoy his lobster roll. First 90 seconds what a poor experience. I came in at 1:55 wanting some lunch. I am from out of town so I had no idea they stopped serving food at 2:00. Two servers were standing there I asked if I had to seat myself they said I could sit but couldn't order because the kitchen closed in 5 minutes. I thought no big deal I'll sit at the bar and just have a few drinks. The bartender Prayjoy came over and asked if I wanted to order. He said you have five minutes to put it in just let me know. He was awesome; I was not expecting that! Needless to say after he took my order I gave him a 20 spot and told him this is for taking my order when the other guys blew me off. He was very nice and totally understood that people may be from out of town and not know the exact hours. Super classy guy he should be the other two servers boss. read more

This place is incredibly over priced and the service is rather poor. Sat at the bar to order food to-go, and while I was waiting I asked for a cappuccino. The espresso machine was out of beans so the bartender asked a server to grab more and the server flat out said no. Awkward situation for me to witness. After waiting about 15 minutes, I finally asked for a black coffee. The bartender was like noooo cappuccinos are better. Yah, in most circumstances but you don't have one to make me right now. The coffee was also an overpriced $5 Also ordered the winter Cobb salad which was POORLY put together. They honestly just gave me lettuce leafs instead of chopping it up. The squash was over cooked so it made my salad texturally unappetizing. The salad dressing was pretty bland and overall making it not a great salad. The picture I attached is of my "salad" Ordered the hamburger lettuce wrapped/medium rare and I had to explain what I wanted multiple times. Finally he understood and I asked for the fries cooked extra crispy. Not only was my hamburger over cooked, the fries were soggy. Would I eat here again? Absolutely not. Came here on a Sunday around noon with Lobster Benedict on my mind but alas, that dream abruptly ended :( Seems this place doesn't serve brunch past 11:30am even on a Sunday. Yeah, I know right? And it's a hotel! Since we were already there, we decided to stay put and ordered off their lunch menu which was our next no-no. We were first seated in the middle of the dining room and then relocated all the way to the corner right next to the service door. It was a little weird since there was still plenty of seating available. So from there on out, my chair kept getting bumped into by the foot traffic and the staff was busy coming in and out with large carts to move the stationary breakfast buffet items away. As for the food, we shared the lobster roll with fries, cauliflower side and their margarita flatbread. Everything was freshly prepared and tasted decent but the dishes weren't very memorable; Standard run of the mill fare. The fries were probably the best out of all that we tried. Lasting thoughts? Hotel food that is hotel food. That's what comes to mind. Considering the price, food quality, taste, service and decor, if I could have a do-over, I'd definitely hightailed out of there and walked the extra 5 minutes over to the Boylston/Newbury St area to enjoy better ambiance for brunch (not lunch!). read more

Ordered the daily special pasta - it was pretty good. Porcini mushroom ravioli with butternut squash, pine nuts, and spinach with a bit of shaved Parmesan and truffle oil. The squash was undercooked but overall it tasted good. I had tiramisu for dessert and it was odd. The marscapone was frozen so I didn't care for the texture. And it was sitting in a maraschino cherry sauce which was also odd. read more

Off the Common is the lobby bar for the Park Plaza hotel. It's very nice and quite fancy. And with that, a little spendy. My colleague enjoyed his martini which was properly shaken and poured. Me, I just had a beer but even that was in a proper glass for a local beer, Jack's Abbey Lager which is brewed in Framingham. Plenty of space at the bar or the tables that are well separated from each other. read more

I think 3.5 stars is about right. However that is not an option and for the prices I went to 3.0. Service was OK but not real quick. We only had 2 Clam chowders and shared a starter of calamari at a cost of $40. The chowder was OK but a bit thin and light on the clams and potatoes. We ate there again with another couple and felt about the same at the end. I do not remover that meal much. Which I think says a lot. Underwhelming experience! Drink prices are outrageous, particularly given the stingy martini pours! Ordered two chocolate martinis. Using a shot glass, bartender poured less than two shots of vodka and a quarter shot of chocolate liquor into a shaker, then poured into two ridiculously small martini glasses. Basically split one martini into two, but still charged $22 for each. Park Plaza hotel is very nice and the room was great. But this restaurant is a total ripoff! Wide variety of liquors, cocktails, and beers. A little limited on the fresh draft options, but supplemented by a variety of bottled and canned beers. Environment is nice. Plenty of TV's if you're flying solo at the bar, or other seating options with pleasing decor to match the lobby of the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. I went to a private event tonight that showcased some of the new spring menu items. The staff at the event were super nice and talkative! The waitstaff was attentive and knowledgeable about the food. Charcuterie board was delish. I tried a couple of great cheeses I loved with different types of bread, fig jam and of course, the meat! Had a refreshing vodka cocktail with ginger. If you like ginger you will LOVE this drink. Dessert: I had two of these mini strawberry shortcakes. And honestly I could eat two more right now. We parked in a lot about a 3 min walk from the Boston park plaza! ($14 for a couple of hours) Inside interior = gorgeous, modern, charming and traditional at the same time Attendees got gift certificates for lunch for two- yay!!!! read more

So this place looks nice. The food tastes good but they have some inherent problems. We had the short rib tacos the Cobb salad and some fries. The short rib tacos tasted great but they were cold. The salad tasted great but too much dressing. Although the chicken was delicious and very very tender! The best thing about the salad!! The butter lettuce was too soft but good. And the fries were seasoned well but not crispy enough so they might have been sitting too long with my tacos. So hopefully they serve the food faster and maybe it won't be as cold or soggy. The service was pretty good but one of the servers was not that nice. For the price I think there are better options. We ate here because of the rain but probably wouldn't eat here again because of the issues I spoke about. read more

Fun vibe eating right in the middle of the hotel lobby. We were dressed pretty casual so we called ahead about the dress code, but were told no worries (we had on jeans and nice shirts). The photos of the interior make it look fancier than it is. Our table had the lobster roll, clam chowder, Caesar salad, and calamari. Two of us were splitting the lobster roll, and they even brought it on two separate plates for us. There was a TON of lobster in the sandwich, and the fries were very tasty. No ketchup needed. Oh, and the mint julep was excellent! Service was very attentive, and several people checked to make sure our food was good. The prices are definitely on the high side, so I agree with others that the rating should probably be $$$. We would definitely eat here again. The sliders were just two, one was well done, the other was perfectly cooked. The heirloom tomato salad was nice, but not spectacular. The beignets were a waste of calories. Came here twice in two days as I was in town for a conference. Day one 10/3/17 around 7pm, the food was great and the service was excellent. A bit on the pricey side and it took forever to be greeted and seated, but overall good. Day two, 10/4/17 around 7pm, the food was still good (but pricey), and there was still a wait to be greeted and seated. This time, my waiter was terrible. I saw him once to place my order and never again. No drink refill, no checking to see how the meal was. I had to flag down another server to get my check 20 minutes after one of the bus boys had cleared my plate. The server finally came with the check, came back to get my credit card and and brought me the slip to sign (that's three trips to my table) and not a single word. I was not even thanked for bringing in my business. On the bright side, I saved money on the tip I would have left if the service had been, so I basically got a 20% discount off the bill. read more

We came here for breakfast one morning and were promptly seated and handed menus. The service was very attentive although a little snotty in my opinion. I ordered the smoked salmon on a bagel which took awhile to come out but tasted pretty good. There really was no wow factor to it though, although I would say it was a pretty solidly good meal that did fill me up all the way until dinner. As for the coffee, it was okay, just your standard, typical coffee, although it did bother me that the regular coffee was the same price as the speciality cappuccinos and lattes. Prices overall were pretty high for just your run of the mill hotel breakfast. I would possibly come back here, although I later discovered other, cheaper and far better restaurant places in the area. The environment was nice and relaxing despite it being in the lobby of a lush and busy hotel. The lobby's appearance was rather misleading compared to the rest of the hotel. The modern and contemporary finishes brought life into the big space and definitely brought it into this century. The lobster roll was fresh and seasoned well. Every bite only made me want another. The burger was savory and scrumptious. The bacon was perfectly cooked and the beef was plump, juicy and pure perfection. The fries was crisp and parsley covered in the best way. No ketchup needed. It was a great meal and I can only imagine dine-in plating is the single thing that could have made it better. read more

Be aware, as of yesterday the menu has been revamped. How do we know? We were told that by 3 employees. Considering that it was the first day of our stay and we had never stayed here before we had no clue and didn't really care. Although we were sad to hear that during the revamp, the bacon cheddar sliders went from 3 in an order to 2. The two were good but three would have been even better. The price was a little more appropriate for three but for the convenience of eating in the hotel, I understand the price. The buffalo chicken pops and hand cut fries were both good. We came back later for dessert and a glass of wine. I asked for a white that would pair with the strawberry shortcake but unfortunately the wine was bitter and had a peppery flavor. Stayed at the hotel so was here three nights in a row for late night treats; two nights had a rose in a champagne glass, one night the same drink was served in a wine glass with extra flight on the side. Always super overpriced. Flatbread is greasy, decent taste. Panini was quite tasty and large. Butternut ravioli was super greasy and a small portion. The meals all feel very heavy. Overall, after multiple attempts to enjoy the service I recommend bracing the cold and going somewhere else for a bite to eat. It will be cheaper and more satisfying! read more

This place is really bustling! Located in the bottom floor of the Boston Park Plaza prepare for it to be loud and energetic, and there's lots of tables and seating available. Even a cool "community style" table to plug several different laptops. We came here twice I think only because it was in our hotel, but still were impressed. They have a great wine list and cocktails based on the history of Boston, it's very cute! The menu features plenty of New England classics as well as some light and veggie options. Wishing there was a more extensive menu available. We had Simeon the first night and Diony on the last day, both were super friendly! read more
