Very friendly, fast great food.. fish & chips and prawns & chips and chocolate cake for dessert

BEWARE!!! They double charged us, and when we went to let them know what happened they said that it was a preauthorization and should fall off on Monday. (This is a Door Dash debit card, so Door dash cannot do anything since they are not a financial institution.) Monday came and gone and now is Tuesday and it's posted 2 identical charges. Spoke with ANN, very rude, told us it did not happen, even though I have emailed them the proof. She hung up the phone on us. We called back and she hung up the phone once again. IDK what proof they need besides the posted transactions, but we will take this to the Consumer Federal Protection Bureau. Asked who the owner or GM is, she hung up the phone once again. Be very careful using your CC there. If anything, use cash. This restaurant will steal your money off your credit card, then lie about it. BEWARE!! I ordered a bowl of clam chowder, it was delicious. Hubby wanted the cod fish and chips. Server told us it would be a little while as something happened with the cod and he would let us know if it was going to be longer than 15 minutes. Also ordered an appetizer of garlic bread. We waited over 20 minutes, server never came back by the table. Finally brings the fish and the bread. About 5 minutes later brings the chowder. Asked if we needed anything else and I said more napkins please. Never saw him again until he brought the bill. Food was very good but service terrible. read more

Went here for the past 6 days while staying in Newport. Tried different menu items and Prime Rib on Friday. Worth every penny, so tender and delicious. Ask for Travis for your server and don't waste your time at Fishheads Cafe nearby. read more

We pulled in, in a 30 foot RV. We pulled along the back side of the parking lot, where there was a wall against the driver's side, and parking lot on our left. The parking lot was not full at all, and we were not in any cars way. Every single car that pulled through the parking lot, had ZERO trouble, as we were not in the way. I called ahead, and told them we had a party of 6. We got out of the RV, locked our door, and made it about half way through the parking lot. An employee, said his manager asked us to move across the parking lot. My mom's blood sugar was crashing fast, and we needed to eat quickly. We told him we needed to eat quick, as my Mom's blood sugar was crashing and we were handicapped, and had a handicapped sticker.. we could not walk as far as they wanted us to park.. He said that was fine, but we had to move the RV. We decided not to eat there, stayed in the parking lot, and made ham sandwiches in the RV. We stayed there the about 40 more minutes, as we were a party of 6, and ate our homemade sandwiches. The LARGE sign read, Kid friendly, and family friendly. Well, they were not friendly at all. It's oyster season yet they didnt have any of the oysters on the half shell. You could only do the oyster shooters. Which had an ok taste. The pan fried oysters lacked taste as well. Fish and chips where also ok. Nothing bad nothing great. A very average place to eat. Not what I was expecting eating seafood on the coast. Service was also ok. Just a very ok meal. read more

Had lunch at "Off the Hook" definitely a good place! I had the halibut and chips and it was very good! Restaurant was good, the service was a little slow however they were somewhat busy. They were accommodating our party consisted of 9 -5 adults and 4 kiddos divided into three checks. - they did tack an automatic 18% gratuity onto the table. My husband and I were in Newport for our anniversary. We were having no luck finding a place to eat some yummy fish and chips. Every place was booked. As we were heading out of town to see what else we could find beyond the town of Newport, this little place hooked my starved belly. The building was clean and staff was friendly and welcoming. Prices were appropriate for pub good. Full bar and adult drinks were yummy. I missed the photo opportunity, I was thirsty. Our food came hot to table less than 10 minutes after we ordered. The garlic toast on the appetizer menu was so full of roasted garlic flavor! French fries were unique. Wedge cut potatoes that were crispy, hot and fresh. Perfect bite size potatoes. Lightly breaded with delicious fresh tasting halibut. Serving size was just the right amount. Atmosphere was happy. The couple across from us were playing cards while they had food and drinks. Tried this place for the first time yesterday, and I would definitely go back! 1) Great location! Near lots of fun Newport attractions and the beach! 2)Plenty of parking! 3) The outside doesn't look like much, but the inside is really comfortable! Appears to be very well kept and clean. 4) THE FOOD IS AMAZING. My husband got a "Luau Burger", and I got a cup of Clam Chowder. (I wanted it in a bread bowl, but they were sold out). The clam chowder was absolutely delicious, and so was the burger! Additionally, the burger came with fries, which were super yummy! 5) Good variety in the menu! Bring the whole family; There's something for everyone! 6) The restaurant is connected to a candy shop that has WONDERFUL chocolate and fudge! 7) The four reasons I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5... -The check was dropped at our table at the end of our meal, but nobody ever came back for it. When we stood up and approached a register to pay, nobody was there and we ended up waiting to quite a long time as various employees passed by without offering help. -They were out of bread bowls, which is a staple of any place that has clam chowder! -No military discount. -Women's restroom trash can was overflowing. All in all, I would recommend this restaurant if you are in the Newport, OR area! Side note: Make sure to visit the Newport Zoo (located behind Pirates Plunder). It's amazing! read more

Mediocre service - Hit or miss food. This restaurant has enough for seating about 100 people, oddly enough the bar area and the "family" area is not separated in a way that is visible. Luckily when we arrived there were no customers at all in the bar nor the restaurant... Probably it was the time, around 9 PM on a Saturday. We just walked here from the hotel one block away and it was the only option available at a walking distance. We ordered a Grilled Cheese Sandwich and a couple of Mac and Cheese orders for the children (5.99 each) and a Crawfish Éttoufée bowl ($6.99) and Fettuccine Alfredo ($13.99) for the wife and I. She and I were extremely PLEASED with the flavor of our entrées. I'm not an expert in soul food but it was DELICIOUS! On the other side, the children's Mac and Cheese was awfully TASTELESS! The waitress was very nice and brought in some extra cheese sauce but it was all the same! Then we decided to order another Grilled Cheese Sandwich since the children couldn't eat the tasteless Mac and Cheese... For our surprise, the waitress came back with bad news: The kitchen was no longer open. That was not a good sign! About 5 minutes later the waitress came back and offered to bring the sandwich and not charge for it... It seemed as if the manager had noticed and asked her to come back with a reasonable response. Considering that the waitress was nice despite the fact that she had decided to not get the sandwich, she got tipped properly... But this shows that they're not always on top of their game. read more

Walked here for lunch after the aquarium. Plenty of parking if you chose to drive. Family friendly. Wide open space. If you are a sports nut- your game is on. Clean. Service was great from the time we walked through the door until we left. Popped in because it was walking distance, and was pleasantly surprised! We started with yesterday shooter which were awesome! Very clean and fresh great flavor!! I ordered the crawfish soup it was yummy very bold flavor! And a garden salad also flavorful and not just your standard greens. The hubby got the fish sandwich and liked it a lot, my oldest got the prime rib French dip she loved it and said the fries were super good! the kiddos got mac n cheese and chicken strips both were awesome! Lunch here today. Some of our food was ok, but the shrimp Louie salad apparently doesn't come with dressing? The server acted bothered that we asked for some. The "roasted" garlic on the garlic burger was not roasted, I don't know how they prepared it but it was mushy and gray. But the real problem was the server- we had a group of 6, my husband and I paid cash, we left first. Our adult children were still sitting down, then the server came back to them and claimed that I had shorted him $20 and they needed to give him $20, so they did. They called me later to tell us about it, but we had actually paid the right amount. Two different people witnessed the correct amount being put into to little black folder with the check. So that guy (didn't get his name) got his 18% he added to the bill (but didn't deserve) AND an extra $20 from us. If we weren't leaving town, I would go back down there and talk to someone about it. read more

We did a to-go order of the Fish & Chips (Alaskan Halibut & Chips) the Pan Fried Oysters, Ruby's Pork & Mac, Cheeseburger and some Poutine to try and everything was soo good I highly recommend if your near the La Quinta as it's within walking distance of the hotel. The fries are really good! The service was great, and it was super busy at the time we ordered but was worth the wait! Also, check out the candy shop next door they got good candy! read more

Excellent food - I had fried shrimp and salad. The salad was so fresh. The shrimp was amazing. The bar tender said they do their own breading. Not greasy at all. On our way back up coast to Seattle. Checked yelp and decided to try Off the Hook. Wanted seafood and their tonights special was Alfredo with chili sauce, cod, shrimp and scallops. Perfect but I don't eat scallops so asked if I could sub for a few xtra prawns NOPE! I ended u ordering halibut chips. It could've come out of my freezer into oven! Solid seafood spot that is away from the main drag. It was a busy lunch time, so we decided to go off of the beaten path. Upon entering - the bar and restaurant areas were both very clean and bright. Really good beer selection. The server was very helpfly and let me try a few different beers. I had a cup of the crawfish étouffée - it was amazing. Just like in New Orleans. Loved it. Family friendly. Large open seating area with booths and tables. Can accommodate larger groups at tables. Very welcoming staff and server was attentive considering he was the only server. Food was great! Good menu selection. Generous servings. The shrimp salad with field greens had plenty of shrimp and it was all very fresh. Also ordered the fish and chip basket (we opted for cod but halibut is an option) there were three pieces of fish and plenty of chips. Chips are potato slices that are somewhat curled and very tasty! The one thing they definitely need to improve on is the cleanliness of the bathrooms! Women's restroom was nearly out of toilet paper and the trash can was very full of paper towels. I temporarily stopped my vehicle (10ft length-- too large for parking spot) on the side of this restaurant while looking at the take-out menu online. Approximately 5 minutes later an employee approached my vehicle asserting "why are you parking on my driveway" in an abrupt/confrontational manner. I replied that I was too large for the parking spot and offered that I would move my vehicle. The female employee responded with an unnecessary attitude once again mentioning something along the lines of "you need to move, my boss isn't cool and would be pissed if he came and saw you parked here" I responded saying that I already offered to move (10 seconds prior). Needless to say we didn't order takeout and decided to leave due to the employee's unprofessional and rude approach. Poor customer service, especially during COVID, where take-out is the new normal. Due to the employee's rudeness, I immediately moved my vehicle as requested, so I could write this review. If the employee simply approached me in a respectful manner, I would have loved to give this place a try but if the owner also doesn't believe in respecting their customers, maybe it's for the best. read more

I had brought in a SDiT it was a puppy at the time and was enclosed in a dog stroller which was clearly posted "Service Dog in Training". I was also covered in full training gear indicating that I wasn't some fly by night Joe trying to bring in a puppy for fun. We were originally sat at a table then a "manager" came up asking for a "certificate" proving my dog was a service animal. I said he is in training for my medical condition and was also completely quiet. The only one making a disturbance was him. He demanded documentation of my medical records to dine there. I showed him my doctors medical note stating I required a service dog for my condition to which he STILL refused service!! This place should be shut down!!
