I have had poke around the island at other establishments so it's not a matter of inexperience or lack of knowledge, just personal taste. Lines do get long and they run out of options quickly, but the line moves quickly so get there early to be able to choose from all the options. They toss their poke with sesame oil and the spicy ahi didn't have any inamona in it (thank you, as I'm allergic to all nuts, including kukui nut). When I was pregnant, I wished they had more cooked options but all they have is the miso tako. The store has a few metal tables on the sidewalk for al fresco dining. Had to make a stop here because the idea of a poke sampler platter is just too enticing to pass up. However, I'm really glad I had my guy there to share with me because most of the flavors were pretty underwhelming. Basically anything with sauce was just oversauced making it muggy and it was all you could taste. Not sure about others, but I enjoy tasting the fish when I get poke. From favorite to least favorite: Shoyu Ahi, Cold Ginger Ahi tied with Kilauea Fire, Japan Deluxe tied with Miso Ginger Tako, Hawaiian Style, and Spicy Ahi. I didn't actually try the Wasabi Ahi as I don't like wasabi at all, but my guy said it was disgusting and at the bottom of his list. Neither of us thought the spicy ones had any actual heat to them. Overall, this just mixed the mark for me. Out of the 7 flavors I tried, I would only get the top 1. Even the other ones I thought weren't bad, I couldn't eat a whole meal of it because they weren't good enough to me. Not a good ratio. I expected better, cleaner flavors based on the reviews I read and I got the opposite. I wouldn't come back here, honestly. My guy gives it a 3.5, but it's a 2.5 max for me because I got poke other places that was much more enjoyable. This I had to force down for the most part. read more

This poke market is located in the heart of Manoa across the street of Manoa Marketplace. They only have a window for ordering and about five tables outside for dining that can seat about 2 people per table. They are very organized and have a great system of how they take orders and work really quickly. One person places the rice (white rice, brown rice, green salad, or sushi rice (Extra $1) into the plastic container, another person places the fish into the container, and another person will add toppings (massage, furikake, green onion, puff rice) and takes the payment. On this visit, I ordered a regular plate with 2 choices (Spicy Ahi & Hawaiian) over sushi rice. The fish was very fresh and the sushi rice also had some kind of flavor and rice vinegar. My poke bowl had a lot of flavors going on. Everything was very tasty. I also ordered the spicy ahi bombs. This was just okay. There wasn't enough spicy ahi on the top. It was very minimal and there were too many sesame seeds in the rice for my liking. The flavor was good but I could feel all of the sesame seeds in every bite. I ended up eating only half of the bomb with all of the spicy ahi because it was so little to begin with. The employees were nice and the poke bowl was good but I probably will not order the spicy ahi bombs again. We loved the added touch of the toppings (green onions, tempura flakes, green onion, & tobiko). The fish was super fresh, the spicy ahi was creamy and not too spicy. The Hawaiian had onion & limu (seaweed). They have a variety of poke with most being ahi. They do have tako (octopus) poke as well. Their also have sushi rice and regular rice available for poke bowls. They did have a hint of green in the rice but we weren't sure what was added to make it green. A hole-in-the-wall restaurant, it's right across the street from Safeway (with a view of Diamond Head!). It's designed to be a take-out restaurant with a couple of small tables right outside to eat, though that did not stop the workers there from providing professional service to us. I got the regular-sized Cold Ginger Ahi and Spicy Ahi bowl. The quality of the fish was top-notch, genuinely the best raw fish I've ever tasted. The poke instantly melted in my mouth right away, as well as the pre-marinated flavors that beautifully paired with the fish. We've been going to Off the Hook for years. By far my favorite. A relative brought me a poke bowl from another well known spot last week and it was okay. Then he went to OTH today and brought me one from here and it's just sooooo good. Way better than anywhere else. I have never had not-fresh fish, it's always super fresh good quality. The portions have shrunk a tiny bit, prices have gone up a tiny bit, but it is still our go to spot. My coworkers never say no when I suggest a OTH poke run. I saw some comments say the cold ginger poke is overwhelming - I love the ginger sauce (I order cold ginger chicken from Chinese restaurants) so it's perfect for me. My favorite is usually the Hawaiian style, my gf likes the spicy ahi. I've pretty much tried all the varieties though and they're all good. All in all, by far my favorite poke place. I love to support the small hole in the wall local eateries that make our community so unique. Plus, another great place (Andy's) is next door. The fish was super fresh and sushi rice is a must. Only thing is that it's a bit pricy. For 3 people which included 1 Keiki and 2 regulars was a total of $62 because the add on prices as well.
