Living in the SFV is advantageous on many culinary fronts. One of which is, that if you drive about half an hour east on the 210, you will come to Pasadena. Here you will find, Oh La La, a bakery, breakfast and lunch spot with a French theme. There are the usual fresh breads and pastries and other full meal items. The menu was tempting me to go all out, but I came here for coffee, because I had plans for lunch elsewhere, in Pasadena. I ordered my favorite, a medium Americano - as a rule, I do not like to dilute my poison :) They gave me a table number and the coffee arrived in a lovely blue cup and saucer (see my picture). Yes, no paper cups, no self serve, no calling out names. It was delivered to the table. The coffee was strong, robust and at the perfect temperature. I need to come back to try other items from the small, but enticing menu. read more

Had their chive & cheddar croissant and a matcha to go! What an interesting concept, a savory croissant (kind of similar to ham & cheese though in some ways). It was super buttery and flakey. Lots of people doing work with their laptops out or folks catching up over lattes. Definitely a cafe vibe. The line can get long and it did take 10+ minutes for me to order, but that may be the lower number of staff bundled with their attentiveness. read more

A criminally underrated, high quality cafe and bakery located in Pasadena's E Colorado Blvd, this establishment is often overlooked and overshadowed by its competitors, such as Artisan Goods down the street. However, at least in regard to the baked goods (particularly the croissants), this shop does right, and consistently well. The chocolate and plain croissants are arguably the best I've had in Southern California. The service is attentive and quick, and there is more than ample seating here. Oh La La gets 10/10 on the YUM-O Meter. I ordered their foccacia sandwich box which included the turkey, prosciutto, and riviera sandwiches. Each flavor was divine (yes I tried all of them)! I have no notes. I also enjoyed their take on a caesar salad. The lettuce was crunchy and fresh, the croutons added a delicious sweetness, and the dressing was unique! The pastries and breads are delicious. We had different kinds and all delicious. The place is small and even though the room was limited, the service and staff are super nice. They accommodate us one day with a group of 6 and other day 9. They are kind and nice. Definitely if you want good tasty breakfast is a must. Took about an hour to be seated on a Saturday for lunch but once seated the service was great. The food presentation could have been better. I ordered a breakfast burrito and when my plate came out the Tortilla was falling apart which made it difficult to eat but the flavor was good. My husband, baby and I went to discover some new pastries and we were not disappointed. I also really enjoyed paying and then being served.. I wish more restaurants and cafes worked that way. As soon as you walk into this place you no longer feel like you're in so cal. They did an amazing job capturing the essence of coastal France. The desserts and pastries on are full display as you stand in line to order. It's insane tempting. The chocolate chip cookie from here is hands down probably the best chocolate chip cookie we've ever had. A really solid French Boulangerie in Pasadena with a great atmosphere! I kept hearing about this spot so I finally stopped by Friday morning and the place was pretty busy! I ordered a Jambon buerre sandwich that was fantastic. Great, great baguette, soft on the inside with that great crust on the out. Lean flavorful ham and loads of butter, just the way it is in France! Simple delicious and to the point. The Croissant wasn't bad but just okay, it was a bit too dense inside and the outside was mostly soft and not very crispy except for the center hood or fold. It wasn't greasy or overly buttery but still had a good croissant flavor. Sadly the Hojicha latte was just not good and the only disappointment. It was too milky and hardly any "tea" flavor from the hojicha. Still, a great place for the food and I'd definitely return. read more

Twice tried to order the coq au vin at $32 and was talked into pasta. As such, decided on the pasta stroganoff at $28, only to be talked into rigatoni with pesto at $23 that was meh. Wanted a salad with dinner, and told only entree salads, and the glass of wine I said I would like to order with my entree was not made available. Nice servers, not good for business. read more

Sunday afternoon at 4pm. The bakery is wiped out. Plain croissants and sandwiches left. I thought about this spot last minute but didn't think there would only be plain croissants left an hour before closing. I was here so decided to try the only croissant available and a cafe latte. Croissant was buttery on the inside with a slight flaky crunch outside. No need for spread it was tasty as is. Latte was fine without any added flavored syrup and I was ok without sweetener too. At 4pm on a Sunday, the place was clean and not busy. Regulars probably know nothing would be left at this time? There were customers strolling in (most likely the same way I came in on a whim). The guy who took my order was helpful and likely French (accent gave it away). I'll need to come in much earlier on my next visit. read more

I love this bakery. They have the best pastries, breads, sandwiches, croissants, cookies, and coffee. It's quite spacious inside and has a great vibe. Service is always great too. We had two cappuccinos, a Brioche Eggs Benedict, and a double chocolate pecan cookie. It was delicious even with the egg slightly overcooked. The cookie was a bomb. Can't eat much of that. Went in on a Friday morning to check out the place. Ordered a chocolate croissant and cappuccino. I looked at the pastry station and looks like they were chopping up some butter. Nothing being assembled but they have a viewing window. I'd give the service a work in progress, it feels like new staff or they're adjusting to routine. Chocolate croissant was deliciously flaky and buttery. I did want more chocolate but it was good what I tried. The cappuccino was alright a little runny on the frothy texture. First and last time coming here. Really wanted to like this place. It was just one wrong thing after another. First, our card was charged twice. Half the food came, French onion soup that was zero soup and all onion and bread. Literally not an ounce of broth. The other half of the food never came because the cashier never charged us for it. I went up to the register, gave them my order again. They didn't charge me because of the inconvenience and I'm so glad because I didn't feel bad not eating it. There was moldy looking fries in the batch and the ham in the croissant was so salty I couldn't finish it. My friend and I decided to try this new bakery given its popularity. We went on a weekday and in the early since a lot of comments stated they tend to run out. It's located down Colorado St so there are plenty of street parking locations. The inside area is spacious so it's a good location to meet up with friends for an early breakfast and/or to just grab some coffee. I grabbed two of their regular butter croissants, the pain au chocolat, and one of their seasonal fruit pastry (when I went awhile back it was permissions). The croissants were not as buttery and flakey as other croissants that I've had. The pain au chocolat had a generous amount of chocolate filling (tasted like Nutella) but again was much denser than I had anticipated. The seasonal fruit tart, though, was the star and I wish I had gotten more! Overall, although it didn't quite live up to my expectations I would still come back to try out their other pastries. read more

When we arrived most of the pastries were gone (though they still had lots of croissants) but we were there for the ordered items so it was ok. I couldn't resist the Chive Croissant and I was glad I got it because it was flaky and deliciously buttery and filled with chive flavor. Brioche Eggs Benedict - perfectly poached high quality eggs. Beautiful deep yellow oozing yolk. Potato Gravlax - I liked this item the best. Plenty of lemony creme cheese in the middle to compliment the potato dauphinois and salmon. Satisfying in an indulgent way. Creme Brulee Waffle - waffle was not crisp at all, which I was a little surprised by. BUT the pastry creme with that crackling perfectly browned sugar top and sweet strawberries more then made up for it. read more

The ambiance of this place is great. However, you should only go here if you have plenty of time to kill. The service is incredibly slow -- it seems like they never have enough staff at any given time. I've come here for both brunch and their jazz nights (which are PACKED and you will be waiting even if you have a reservation) and the service has been the same regardless of the number of diners. The food itself is fine, a little pricey given the quality. /taste. Nothing terrible, but nothing amazing that would make me overlook the total lack of service. Their interior design was modern with a French flair and it's very spacious; plenty of tables inside and outside. Furthermore, atmosphere was very relaxing as well as their music playlist. I came as a first time customer to have brunch. I perused their le menu and ordered a breakfast croissant sandwich x chicken and cold brew/lemonade drinks. I was warmly greeted by Karla, a young amiable and competent female staff. Croissant Sandwich was delightful, tasty and warm. Drinks were good. Service was on point. Prices were a tad pricey albeit match the quality and presentation. They have Wifi available. Street parking only. Overall, I had a good dine-in experience and brunch. We came here after a morning at the Huntington Library and glad we had the chance to try Oh La La. Great place with a cool vibe in an old but modern architecture dining room. The pastries and breads were delicious and the coffee drinks were a great afternoon treat as well as tasty. We had coffee and croissants but the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. Sandwiches with house baked bread will be had on our next visit as well as the eggs Benedict which both looked delizioso. Friendly smiling staff guided us thru the order process and samples available for tasting helped make the decision on what to try. I visited Oh La La on Colorado Boulevard. The atmosphere is beautiful, and the staff was friendly. The food was just average overall. I had the poached egg with salmon on brioche -- small portion with greens on the side, but no dressing. My son's steak with egg was made from flap meat and was average; the egg didn't seem very fresh, more like pre-packaged yolk. A positive note: I ordered a croissant for my 3-year-old daughter, and after about 10 minutes of waiting, realizing she was hungry, they brought it out heated and ready. The tonic coffee was disappointing, but they kindly swapped it for a cold brew, which was better. Overall, everything was okay, so I'd give it 3.5 stars. read more

Over promised on the wait time and we had already been warned from other patrons leaving. Once seated (party of 8) we were split between 2 tables and that was only because we pushed to be seated. Our visit started rough to say the least. Service made up for it. We arrived just before 12pm and the place was packed. By 2pm, it was cleared out. We were told they didn't have burgers and no hibiscus tea, although both items appear on the menu. I opted for fresh squeezed OJ and my friend asked for Jasmine tea. My OJ tasted terrible. It was tart and almost tasted like grapefruit and I hate grapefruit. I even added one pack of sugar and that still didn't help. We managed to flag down an employee, we were both unhappy with our drinks. She offered us the housemade lemonade and that was much better! Fries are seasoned with some black pepper which I found interesting. My sandwich came with a small green salad. Sadly I was still hungry. We are willing to come back and give this place another try.
