Oh La La just launched their dinner service not too long ago so I made the drive here to try it out. We ordered the roasted garlic hummus as a starter and it was a solid choice. The hummus was delicious but the focaccia was not your typical bread. It was deep fried and too oily and crispy for my liking so I just ate the hummus as is. For our entrees, we went with our waiter's recommendations of steak frites and truffle rigatoni. For someone who doesn't fancy truffle, I surprisingly really enjoyed it. The rigatoni was cooked al dente and the truffle was present but not overpowering. The only con was that it was too salty and I kept needing to take sips of my drink to cleanse my palate. The N.A. Spritz consists of sparkling lemonade and blue jasmine with just the right amount of sweetness for me. If you're looking for a sweet drink though, this is not it. They have a large selection of drinks though, so you'll definitely find one to your liking. I also tried the steak frites and it was cooked medium rare, just as ordered. The peppercorn sauce complimented it very nicely but it was once again a bit salty. The fries were thin but soggy. Of course, as a bakery, the highlight was dessert. Is bakery/Café is located right off of Lake Street. During peak hours like weekends, the parking can be a little tricky, but street parking can usually be found but may require a bit of a walk. The vibe of this place is excellent. The interior decor was very inviting, with plenty of seating and large windows to let in the natural sunlight. This is my first time at the restaurant and I only ended up grabbing pastries. I got a ham and cheese croissant, and also a chocolate and almond croissant. Ham and cheese croissant was decent, it was warmed up, so the dough was flaky. Maybe it was salted enough, or the cheese wasn't pungent enough, but I didn't feel like there was enough flavor/punch behind this pastry. With that being said, my favorite part was probably the bechemel sauce was a nice savory touch. 3.5/5. The chocolate/almond croissant was decent. I didn't get this warmed up, but in retrospect, I probably should have. The great thing about this croissant is that they did not skimp on the filling. Plenty of almond paste and chocolate, so it was quite rich in flavor. Where it falls short is the pastry itself. Perhaps I should've had it warmed up, but as it came out, it was a little cold, and certainly didn't have the flaky/fragrant texture that one might expect. Some of this may be just from the fact that the pastry was cold, but I would be willing to give it a second shot. Overall, 4/5. Service was fast, and very good. Serving staff are friendly, and the café is well kept and clean. This may be one of my new favorite hangout spots, given the great vibe, and excellent hours. Very cute brunch spot with street parking right next to it if you're lucky! They were super busy when I went and I probably wait 15-20 minutes before ordering. I went in to take advantage of the inkind deal but if you don't you can order by QR code at the table. It was a pretty smooth process otherwise and you can even check out the pastries if you wait in line. Overall the food was very nice, I tried the pastries which were very chewy and sweet, the coffee was as expected since I just got cold brew, but the highlight was definitely the steak and eggs which was packed with flavor in the chimichurri, potatoes, and sun side up eggs. I was a bit hesitant when I saw the gigantic size of the croissants; however, I was sold before I even tasted mine as soon as I saw bags of flour from France stacked near the open kitchen. The croissants did not disappoint! They are truly praiseworthy. I could taste the quality of the flour and butter used to make their pastries. Flaky on the outside and succulent and soft on the inside, our croissants were wonderful. The kouign-amann was also large, perfectly caramelized, flaky, sweet, and buttery. The almond croissant was, again, large, with a well-balanced portion of almond to dough and just the right amount of sweetness. Their avocado croissant had pickled onions, which were perhaps a little too strong for a morning bite, but the poached egg was perfectly prepared. The coffee orders contain two shots of espresso, and they hit all the high notes. Their lavender honey latte was heavenly--noticeably sweet with a delicious floral scent of lavender that was just right. Reservations are not taken for breakfast, as orders are placed at the counter, and there is some effort required to find a table. I am giving this place 5 stars because I think the food and pastries are excellent! The service and ambiance is friendly, too! Parking: There is a huge parking structure right behind the restaurant where we were able to park there for free on a Saturday. We were there for around 1.5 hour. However, I am not sure if there is parking fee any other day. Restaurant: it wasn't too busy but they are short staffed, so we have to wait around 25 minutes to get seated. There is ample seating inside and a few tables outside. The restaurant is cute with a section just for bakery. Food: We ordered 2 drinks, the mixed berry matcha and the rose latte. The matcha is very underwhelming, tastes pretty watery. However, the rose latte is much better tasting, not too sweet also. The food is also really good. I was surprised by the quality of their food item. Service: Again, I think they are understaffed so there was not much service. Our server also did not bring water for us until we asked ( basically 15 minutes after seating). We don't think we will come back to dine in...but maybe when we pass by, we might get one of the pastries. read more

Brioche eggs benedict: everything was wonderful overall. Eggs were gooey and creamy and wonderful with the bacon and bread. Personally, I could do with a little less bacon haha. The sale was a good touch to balance with the two eggs benedicts. (the pastries- ate them 1-2 days later, toasted in the oven) Croissant: good and flaky. The usual haha. It's a walk in, order, and then seat yourself and found out after getting in line and ordering that you can also scan QR code and order...There was a line when we got there and went through pretty quickly, cashier was a doll, lovely. We ordered pastries, they don't warm up any sweet treats, just FYI. I had monkey bread and a brown sugar cinnamon latte and my friend had a breakfast croissant egg and cheese with a side potatoes with a brown sugar cinnamon latte as well. For dessert she took home a strawberry tart and a vanilla cinnamon cookie. The lattes needed a lil more sweetness, hence the name. Such a cute quiet space with tables and free wifi, great for conversations and/or working. The coffee and matcha drinks are goood. I ordered the baklava latte and it was coffee forward, creamy, nice sweetness from the honey, and pistachios. YUM. The kitchen was closed for an hour due to a fire inspection so unfortunately I couldn't order anything off the kitchen menu. Went with one of their grab and go sandwiches and the best thing about the sandwich was the focaccia. That bread was the softest buttery bread ever. Any sandwich on focaccia is a winner. Parking is tricky in that area but this place is worth stopping by. I will have to come back again during the day to try some hot items AND their new dinner menu! read more

The lunch crowd was doing a lot of work on their laptops, so if you care to risk your digestion, the place seems amenable to that. Management also didn't mind that the anniversary party brought their own cheesecake from Porto's Bakery. The menu has a goat cheesecake which I found richer and creamier than my favorite NY style. It does come with a really nice blueberry compote I picture here. The flatiron steak was a bit chewy in spots and I don't swallow what I can't chew so I strategically hid the bits in the little stainless steel ramekin that came with ketchup for the pomme frites (french fries). Aimee gave very friendly and prompt service and answered all of my menu questions with descriptive advice. Excellent food, service, and bright sunny atmosphere. I stopped in for brunch today and even though it was crowded they found me a seat at the counter. Service was friendly and knowledgeable, shout out to Brandon for giving me a run down of the menu and his favorites. I wound up getting the potato gravlax and the croque madame, both of which were excellent. I've driven by this bakery so many times. Recently I was in the area with the friend and we were looking for something to eat with a bit of protein in it. We also wanted to check out the croissants. The bakery is very large, bright and airy. There is a fair amount of stuff and everybody is very welcoming and friendly. I ended up trying the Eggs Benedict on brioche bread with bacon and really enjoyed the delicate presentation. For me it was a bit under seasoned and light on the hollandaise sauce but they offered to bring some extra sauce out. The greens on the side was dressed too perfection and although it seems simple, there is such an art to making a salad that good. read more

I stumbled upon this gem while waiting for my oil change and new brakes at the nearby Firestone. Knowing I had some time to kill, I initially stood in line at Artisanal Goods by CAR, but I realized I wanted something more than just a pastry and a drink. After a quick Google search for nearby cafés, I discovered Oh LaLa. I vaguely remembered it being Love Birds Café before. As soon as I walked in, I was mesmerized by the beautiful ambiance and elegant décor. I was warmly greeted by a friendly French gentleman, and my eyes lit up at the sight of the stunning array of fresh pastries. Their coffee and espresso bar is thoughtfully placed in a separate section, and I appreciated the open kitchen area where you can watch fresh dough being prepared. Every staff member was genuinely friendly and attentive, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I stayed here for hours, working on my laptop, and loved the vibe. I ordered the cacao mint latte, which was incredible, and later tried their BLT. One small detail that stood out to me was the complimentary large water bottles and cups, a thoughtful touch. The staff frequently came around to clean tables and clear away used dishes, which kept everything spotless. Another highlight? My latte was served in a beautiful ceramic mug, adding a touch of elegance to the experience. I was so impressed that I came back the next day! I started with the cacao mint latte again (yes, it's that good!) and later tried the egg, bacon, and cheese croissant. While I probably wouldn't order it again because I didn't love the slight charbroil taste on the croissant, I noticed many others ordering it enthusiastically, so it's clearly a popular item. On this visit, I also noticed how happy and welcoming everyone was--both staff and patrons alike. This café is dog-friendly, which is a huge plus for me since I have a quiet little Morkie who was perfectly content sitting with me. I also tried a strawberry Bellini, which was delicious, and grabbed a parfait to go for my daughter. I'm already planning to bring my parents, friends, and family here because the food looks consistently fresh, and the atmosphere is so inviting. Next on my list? The fried chicken sandwich and the bear claws, which look absolutely to die for. I've also noticed a lot of people ordering the potato gravlax, and after overhearing a couple next to me rave about it, I will definitely recommend it to my friends and family--despite not typically eating raw fish. The presentation was gorgeous, with thick, fresh salmon layered beautifully on top. What really stands out about Oh LaLa is the attentiveness of the staff and the speed at which they serve freshly prepared food. Everything is reasonably priced for the quality and taste. The bread and pastries are baked fresh daily, and you can truly taste the difference. I'll definitely keep coming back until my belly is full! You can even make a reservation online, and they have an exciting dinner launch on January 16th, along with an upcoming happy hour offering. (I'd attend the launch, but unfortunately, I'll be out of town that day.) The atmosphere is vibrant yet peaceful, making it the perfect place to relax or get some work done. The free WiFi is a bonus, and I was able to be productive while enjoying delicious food and drinks. I used to go to Philz, but I was never a fan of their food. I've been a quest these days for great quality burgers. Just happen to be in East side Dena and figure I'd drop in to try this popular cafe and noticed the French onion burger on their menu. This bakery/restaurant has quite a variety of pastries and breads. From behind the glass counter, they look good. So, I decided to try a chocolate croissant ($5) and ordered a French onion burger ($18) also. The chocolate croissant was a bit disappointing. Flakey crust on the outside but as you tear a section off, it's relatively flat and lacking layers. Mostly air. My preference is for a honeycomb section. French onion burger was good. The cashier mentioned fries were extra and figure I'd save some calories. Though looking after the menu said it comes with salad or fries. Housemade seseame bun was a bit too large for the burger patty. Burger to bun ratio should be about equal or larger than 1.0. Just my opinion. Burger had gruyere spread, crispy shallots and onion jam which added to a flavorful burger. Service here is just average and not too friendly. Folks behind the counter had RBF for some reason. The cafe itself is sizable with ample seating to accommodate the lunch crowd. Not sure if I'd be back. Overall, an okay experience at best. read more

I've been coming here since they opened a few years ago, and the experience has become increasingly inconsistent and frustrating. When they first opened, they would heat up their baked goods and pastries. Then they suddenly stopped. About a year later, they said they could warm them again. The constant flip-flopping is confusing and makes it hard to know what to expect as a customer. Today was the final straw. I walked up to the counter, as I've always done, to order food and was told I now had to order through a server. Fine. I sat down, but it took quite a while to even get someone to acknowledge me. Multiple staff members passed by and simply said, "You need to order from our server," without offering help or finding someone for me. When the server finally arrived, I ordered scrambled eggs and asked for them to be cooked soft. He responded that they "can't do that" and that even if he wrote it down, he would "get in trouble." When I asked how the eggs would be cooked instead, he arrogantly replied, "properly cooked." When I asked what that meant, he said, "cooked throughout." At that point, I was done. I left and ate elsewhere. Even inexpensive coffee shops allow you to order eggs the way you prefer. I've never encountered a restaurant that refuses to accommodate something as basic as soft scrambled eggs. What's especially strange is that this place seems to be trying to present itself as more "upscale" now with cloth napkins and cushioned chairs, yet the service is shockingly poor. Is this the fault of the server, or management for creating such rigid and customer-unfriendly rules? Either way, the end result is a frustrating dining experience that has gone downhill over time. UPDATE: Dear Max, Thank you for your reply. However, you didn't address my main concern. I was told I could not order soft scrambled eggs and that the server would get in trouble for even writing it down. This is a very basic request and is actually the traditional French preparation. Came because of Too Good To Go and glad I got try them out. Pick up was a breeze and the staff was friendly. It's a cute cafe that you can come for brunch/lunch, enjoy your choice of caffeinated beverage, dine in or get it to go. Plenty of seating inside. I got a variety of treats and a whole sourdough loaf. I tried the chocolate cookies, an apple danish, a snickerdoodle cookie, along with the sourdough bread. The two stars are solely for the ambiance, it was really the only thing we enjoyed. Our family waited 45 for our food, without really being engaged with by the staff... and we really wished the food was worth the wait, being that everything looks mostly hand made... but sadly that was not the case. Oh La La has now FURTHER expanded/renovated into a truly classy, cozy and welcoming space. The decor is beautifully curated and tasteful (except the bathroom - wow, what a vibe! - which you need to experience to truly know), and the food offerings have now expanded beyond just brunch but now include lunch as well. Apparently, dinner plans are in-the-works too, making for a full service dining experience to come. You still have to order up at the counter, but thankfully, the staff is courteous, pleasant and knowledgable. The baked goods and pastries selection has likewise increased, and the place is always humming with activity in the mornings. Mercifully, it's a bit quieter in the afternoons, where I like to go for chill coffee meetings. As before, it's amazing to see the owners, humble as ever, working with their staff behind-the-scenes as well as bussing tables and helping with inventory. The strawberry matcha pastry had perfect lamination and crispy chewy buttery bites. It was not too sweet or too grassy, just a perfect matcha flavor in a tart like cream. The place is super cute, as you would imagine a French pastry place would be, super cute decor and mirrors outside the restrooms, which added to the cuteness! You get it, it's super cute. We each ordered different items to share and the food was tasty. The chicken dish was bigger than I expected. It was like a whole chicken! Then we shared the bread pudding for desserts which was fine. Overall the place is cute, probably best to come for brunch. But the company was the best part of the night. We had a lovely dinner at Oh La La last night. Our server, Jude was friendly and attentive. We shared zucchini flowers served with whipped burrata cheese, that was pillowy goodness. I had the beef bourguignon, a baked beef check topped with whipped mashed potatoes. The meat was flavorful, but would have enjoyed a a bit more meat to balance protein and potatoes. My friend had the steak frites, a generous portion of fries and sliced steak with a gravy. I enjoyed a Belgian-style beer, that was delectable. We split the bread pudding, a nice blend of sweetness and buttery goodness with a cream topping. Overall, the experience was nice, good food and service. The setting and decor are so nicely done. But the food is so dang good, and a great value! With a party of three people, one is a Frenchman living here in the States. He approves as well! The interior decor reminds him of a French town where his parents took him on annual vacation each year. We had: Salad, stroganoff, Coq Au Vin. Bottle of Rose for drink.
