I'm so mad I skipped getting Tamarind from Downtown today and got this out of convenience since I was sick. The pho is just OK. It wasn't the size I would expect for the price ($22 with extra meat). Also, I asked for extra meat and I swear they interpreted it as just the leftover extra meat in the kitchen. It was fatty looking something rather that almost look like it had tentacles. Coming from an outsider, I would have never guessed a Vietnamese restaurant in Utah would have so many locations! We came as a big group after a day of snowboarding in the mountains and were really craving a hot bowl of pho. We stumbled upon this restaurant as it was pretty close to our airbnb and seemed to be a pretty popular local chain. As a group, we probably ordered maybe like 6 banh mi's and 4 phos. To our surprise, we got everything super quick! They work so fast and everything came out toasty, hot, and delicious! Our banh mi's were crispy and packed with lots of veggies and our choice of meat. We ordered one each of rare beef, brisket, and meatball pho. The rare steak and brisket was okay. The meatballs were disgusting. It tasted stale and rancid, past the expiration date. I had to spit it out bc it made me want to vomit. Sad part is, that is ordered elsewhere and they don't even make it in-house. - Rice, short ribs, and kimchee plate was good. - Did not try the banh mi or anything else and sadly won't get to bc we will never come back. Service: - Guy at the cashier couldn't be any unfriendlier. He wasn't rude but had RBF and never cracked a smile or say thank you or anything. This is typical service at an Asian restaurant so I will forgive bad customer service if the food is excellent. This food is far from excellent. - Person who brought out our food was nice and friendly. Older gentleman. - I don't really get this place. Is it full service, fast food kind of service? Half and half? You order at the counter, need to leave a tip before you get your food. Order the OG Bahn Mi sandwich which is the includes vietnamese cold cuts and pate. There are a lot of other options like barbecue pork or beef, grilled chicken, and even pork belly. This sandwich was top notch because of the bread, which this ingredient makes or break the sandwich. The bread was toasted to a point where it was flaky and soft to the touch. And you get a hella a lot of meat which was worth the price of just $11 bucks. I added a veggie salad on the side with a sweet umami dressing, just a classic light dish - nothing special but it was good and the portion for $6 was not skipping. It was packed by the time I left, a lot of folks come down there for the Pho which also had a lot of options and the serving size again is worth the price. I've been meaning to try this place for years after seeing it on Triple-D. I had high expectations based on that spot with Guy Fieri. Unfortunately, I encountered the same problem I seem to with all Pho spots outside my hometown of Seattle. My expectations are based on the average quality of the pho available for purchase in the greater Seattle area, the majority of which is pretty good. My new city of Las Vegas struggles mightily with their pho quality and the good spots are few and far between. The same holds true for the Banh Mi I encounter outside of WA. That usually tastes OK but the amount of meat on them is minute comparatively. As for the pho, maybe this was an off day for them but the flavor was not strong and the broth was pretty weak. The quantity was not great either. I can get an extra large bowl at my favorite spot in WA for around $8 and when I started eating there 15 years ago, it was under $6. It was enough to fill me up. This place charges a lot more for a lot less. I'm so hard up for pho, I'm willing to overlook price for quality but this was not the quality I expected. The Banh Mi flavors were pretty solid but it had about half the meat I would have gotten at my favorite banh mi spot in WA(different from my favorite pho) and last time I ate there, the sandwich was around $6. If it was an off day, I won't know. Worst Pho ever!!! I ordered the tofu vegetable pho. The tofu was cold as if it had just come out of the refrigerator packaging. The bean sprouts were old and brown. The jalapeño was old and withered. The basil was wilted and brown. The pho flavor was not good. They serve all the food in to-go containers even if you are dining inside of the restaurant. Compressed cardboard bowls, plastic spoons. The place was disgustingly dirty!! Food on the floor and on all rugs. Food spilled on side of trash can running down and dried up. Bathrooms had dirt and grime on the doors, obviously had not been cleaned EVER! Front door had greasy fingerprints all over it and the door handle was grimy. I got the sandwich. I don't know if anyone gets anything but the sandwiches at this spot but there are other items on the menu. The meat was piled on, like almost to the point of too much. I could have split the sandwich and been satisfied. It isn't a value because they charge about 40% than other comparable spots. I found the sauce a bit unbalanced a bit sweet for me (bit that is personal preference). Good amount of vegetables make a complete mouthful difficult. Service is efficient, food comes quick. If I was blind folded and asked to describe what I was eating, I would have said the following: " umm, Lipton onion soup mix, with a dash of soy sauce. I walk in and didn't know you order first and then seat yourself. The one guy was quite rude waving his hand to direct me. I should have gone with my gut to leave, but I was there, so I ordered. I ordered a simply pho soup. When it arrived, it was a bowl with mainly noodle and a few slices of rare steak and a few more something else. It was a complete rip off. I love pho, and I will tell you, this place is not authentic. It's so sub-par and overpriced, I left hungrier than when I came in. And the price was not cheap. The food was okay, but the service was terrible. When we got there the employee sitting at the front desk was so busy on his phone he barely acknowledged us. A few months ago, I would've given Oh Mai five stars... now? Three. I was shocked to find that all containers were switched from ceramic to plastic. The pho used to have small and large options and now there's only one. And the plastic container contains pho less than the small portion when it was still on the menu. The banh mi sandwiches have also gotten smaller in size. Now, rather than having bottles of sriracha and hoison sauce on each table, they're in two big jars by the cashier stand. Not that I'm complaining, but the condiment cups make it difficult to pour the thick sauces into my bowls. The flavors haven't changed. The curry chicken was both sweet and savory. The pho was delicious and the brisket had just the right texture. Although the portion sizes are sacrificed, the prices have gradually increased. All these changes aside, Oh Mai is still a cheap and delicious family owned restaurant. I'm disappointed that they have switched to a not-so-sustainable option due to a few customers accidentally throwing away their utensils, but I will still return to enjoy its wonderful food. read more

"Welcome to Flavortown!" Oh goodness, where to begin.... Oh Mai's banh mi sandwiches are just phenomenal. If you haven't had one, that needs to change. Just know that they will quickly become your favorite sandwich. You will crave them when you least expect it. We (family of 5) prefer the garlic-butter ribeye steak, or the chicken curry sandwiches (when they're sold out of the ribeye. ;) Flavorful, nicely seasoned meats, fresh crispy baguette loaves, with pickled daikon radishes and carrots, cucumber slices, cilantro, jalapeño, + complementary sauces. I love how many mouth-watering flavors and textures are in the sandwiches. Yum. On cold days, we also like to grab a hot, steamy bowl of their pho, served up with their flavorful bone broth, and rice noodles. We prefer the beef brisket, but they also offer meatballs or ribeye. The pho is served up with the typical medley of fresh accoutrements; a generous mound of bean sprouts, Thai basil, slices of jalapeño, wedge of lime. Yum... Oh yeah, one last thing: back in 2014, the restaurant was featured on the Food Network's popular program "Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives" with Guy Fieri.
