An Absolute Embarrassment. This should be premised that I have frequented this establishment, since its "Grand Opening" and/or "Soft opening". Therefore, consider this an audit on this place. Recently, times have been difficult and everyone in our party were tired, all agreeing to enjoy the night out for some Sushi; enter Ohayo. However, the night took quite the left turn, when the service and hospitality become a nightmare. For whatever reason, the hostess always has a dark and rude demeanor for any reason. You could go up to her and ask her a simple question regarding how the seating process is queuing with the biggest smile and kindest tone, only to be met with a quick jabbed retort and brushing you off. Early in our visits, I thought she might have simply had been having a bad night, which is understandable and forgivable, but her damp attitude is consistent. It crossed my mind that she might present herself this way to sway rude customers, but presenting yourself this way to ALL customers? Strike 1. After being seated, we were met with our burnt out waitress. Based on our observations, she seemed burnt out, but had an attitude regardless. Still, relatively forgivable, as I know this industry is. We order 2 AYCE and 1 a la carte. Here is an important note. THEIR RULES, ITEMS, and CONDITIONS, ALWAYS CHANGE, WITHOUT THEM PRESENTING SAID CHANGES CLEARLY IN ANY MANNER. Meaning, changes are not clearly stated in paper, nor through verbal contact. Strike 2. For example, in the soft opening of Ohayo, you could order AYCE and order unlimited sashimi. The price was cheaper, too. Then, every week or so, they would make incremental changes, like increasing the price, presenting smaller dish portions, restricting amount of food that could be ordered, reversing some of these decisions, reversing them again... MAKE UP YOUR MIND. Understandably, as a business, they are trying to understand the best way to proceed in making profits while understanding their audience. This is acceptable during "Soft Opening", but not ok during official "Grand Opening". This definitely is UNETHICAL MALPRACTICE. This is also often referred to in business and legal as "bait and switch". Google it. For example, when we initially visited Ohayo, when ordering from a la carte, a roll was of respectable size and had around 12-15 pieces with a good filling to rice ratio. However, when we ordered the same roll tonight, only 5-6 pieces/mostly rice. Same order, same price, fewer pieces, lower quality. The same for sashimi. In our earlier visits, the sashimi used to be ultra fresh, which was a big selling point. The salmon used to be sparkling pinkish orange, the tuna was dark red, the white tuna covered with shining beads of fresh fats, only to find out today that the quality is the same as a 3 star generic chinese buffet's version of sushi. The salmon was of a blander orange-sicle color, the white tuna was dry, the tuna was pinkish and translucent, and the octopus was pale. Only redeemable related dishes were the tempura; chicken/shrimp/and vegetable. Segue into our dinner order. During our dining session, we were keeping to our selves, when a random disheveled long-haired, stubble bearded, individual with glasses, drops by and accuses us of "Sharing", further threatening us that if we share, everyone will have to pay full AYCE price. No one who wasn't supposed to be sharing was sharing. Also, even if they were, how was announcing such a topic in front of everyone, resulting in embarrassing my party like that good hospitality? Our waitress tried to make up for it and said she knew we weren't sharing, further apologizing, including the notion that she had no idea. Yet, it was relatively obvious that she was trying to save face in order to garner bigger tips from us and was speaking with the random individual. She said there were 2 managers tonight. That random person was not a manager. Manager or not, HOW DARE YOU BE THAT RUDE AND EMBARASS YOUR CUSTOMERS? How is this place still operational? Do you think it's acceptable to make such an unnecessary scene towards your customers, who did nothing wrong, BASED ON YOUR SUSPICIONS? The execution process could definitely have been better and based on that interaction, it was obvious that person was not a manager. No self-respecting manager would have executed such an event in that manner. STRIKE 3. GET OUT. This was the most baffling, ridiculous, and embarrassing visit we've had here and will definitely not be returning ever. I've had friends who shared their declining enjoyment from their previous visits to here as well, but I brushed it off, because Ohayo was generally decent. Again, many parts of changing your goods and services were not ethically deemed, but could be relatively forgiven and looked over. BUT TO EMBARRASS YOUR CUSTOMERS LIKE THAT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE? I am really glad this place opened up! Its really nice to have AYCE sushi without having to travel all the way to Katy or Uptown to have some. All the servers are really attentive and nice, and the sushi was really nice. My favorite rolls were the NASA AND DYNAMITE roll. The actual sushi pieces were decent, with the salmon and the smoked salmon. I would advise to stay away from the tuna though because it tasted really fishy and threw me off the whole meal. Besides that the service was fast but the wait time for the food in between was longer than expected. Waited 10 minutes for 5 pieces of sushi. read more

So where do I start. I had called two hours ahead and asked if a party of 18 could be seated for an event. This restaurant informs me it's first come first served, so cool, I sent my friend to put us on the waitlist while we drive in from Houston for my graduation. Once we got seated, another family of 22 were seated in a big combined table next to our separated table. Strike TWO. We begin to order our food and everything is good, until they tell the second table this is ONLY BUFFET PLACE AND THEY CANNOT ORDER A PLATE, STRIKE THREE. Then most of our buffet food is getting sent to different tables! And our food is taking forever! And when asked, all we got are it's coming, wait, NO YOU CANNOT CANCEL EVEN IF YOUVE BEEN WAITING FOR A SINGLE BOWL OF FRIED RICE FOR TWO HOURS. STRIKE FOUR! Lastly, we trying to pay and they start charging us for additional buffets, gratuity of 18% on EVERY separate ticket and TRYING TO SCARE US BY SAYING ITS GONNA TAKE AN OUR TO FIX OUR TICKETS. STRIKE THE HELL OUT FINALLY AFTER MANY REQUESTS WE GOT A MANAGER WHO SAYS, "we're sorry our waiters were trying their hardest given the multiple parties they have to attend. I went to this restaurant with high expectations since I am a sushi lover, but the service was terrible. The wait was long (like 45 minutes) and we were told that they would text us when a table was ready. We returned to the restaurant after their estimated time. When we returned, the front was empty and we were confused. They did not text or call us, but gave everyone a table who were behind us. We waited until someone helped us to a table. When we sat down, I could tell that the servers were not aware that we were there. It took over 20 minutes for them to ask about drinks. I looked around the restaurant and everyone else was being served promptly except my table. I'm writing this review a few months late because I was just so angry I wanted to forget about this restaurant. They did not follow social distancing policies like their yelp said they did. At the time we dined here, restaurants were either 25% or 50% capacity. They sat parties at the tables next to me on both sides and I did not feel safe enough to take off my mask to drink my water. Our waiter did not come back to our table to take our order for a long time. People who came 20 minutes after we had were already eating, but we only had water at our tables and haven't even ordered. Many of the waiters avoided eye contact with me when I tried to call someone over. I was so angry I wanted to walk out, but I did not want to be rude. A few minutes before I was about to walk out, a waiter came to ask for our order. No apologies whatsoever about the wait. Then we waited a long time for our food and we barely ordered anything because we just wanted to eat something and leave as soon as possible. I can't with this place it was good when it first opened but price keeps going up and quality keeps going down. I ordered a bunch of kani (imitation crab) and it used to be good! But when it came out it looked, smelled, and tasted like STRAIGHT UP CANNED TUNA! Multiple times the food has been sour and the raw fish is super low quality. On another note, my sister is vegetarian so she ordered avocado sushi but there were chunks of kani/canned tuna all through it like they didn't clean the knife before cutting it. The food is quite good, incredible for the price you pay. The only downside I have to report is after having gone several times, the service is far too slow. Being an all you can eat menu means you place an order with the wait staff and they then bring it to you, eventually. When you're ready to place additional orders for food the process repeats. The concept is fine but the execution is a bit lacking. There can easily be 20 minutes or more between receiving your food, placing your next order and seeing the wait staff again.
