Stopped here on the way to Albuquerque because of the good reviews. We had no reservation but were seated right away, so the beginning was very promising. Then, I have nothing more to say that we decided to leave this place after sitting at our table for 20 min with no service. The waitress actually checked on us and even took the order for drinks but then was cruising around without even paying attention to us. People sitting at the next table were complaining about the quality of the food and we noticed that the couple sitting to the right from us was leaving the restaurant but their dishes were not even half finished as they tried the food, didn't like it and left for another restaurant - which we finally did after 20 min of waiting for nothing. read more

I wanted to LOVE this place. Awesome aura and ambiance. Hard to find (usually a good thing). Well reviewed. It was late but I walked into a great reception and was quickly seated and helped. The service was not the issue. Quaint menu with some great choices. I'm in Amarillo in west Texas so need has to be amazing right?? I go for Ribeye with green chile Mac and cheese. The Caesar was good. Tangy and fresh. Clean and crisp lettuce. Then I get my steak. Looks great and I can already smell the Mac and cheese. That's the issue. This is ribeye!!! I should have smelled it first. My first bit was a bit tough (ribeye in Texas should always be medium rare). Another bite. Tough. And it never got better. Nothing jumped out. It was just. Ok. The Mac and cheese was AMAZING on the other hand. But I didn't want to leave this place racing about Mac and cheese. Oh well. Thanks bit probably not gonna be a repeat for me. We stopped in because we were dazzled by local reviews. We started with the sliders. The best part was the jalapeño gravy. The rest was just so-so. Our entrees, for which we waited a substantial amount of time, were not much better. The duck was paired with a cloyingly sweet sauce which took away the beautiful duck taste. Ohms cafe is excellent. One really should come down and try their fresh fare. Hard to find something better in Amarillo. One complaint is that it, like everything else in Amarillo, closes a little too early for my taste. It would be super nice if they stayed open on nights where there were events downtown. It's hard to recommend places to go in Amarillo. It's a night life that suffers from lack of identity, red necks, townies playing hipster and that the selections of places are slim. That being said I miss this place and come here every time I make it back home (once a year). The bar has everything that your boozy pallet needs. Imports, excellent range of liquors, wine and a staff that never disappoints. They can make signature cocktails, flavored martinis, or your favorite stand by's. If your there order a Show Dog, a pink drink that was started there that packs a punch. The crowd is eclectic as Amarillo can get and the food is excellent as well. Late at night the staff plays a pretty good mix of music on their CD player. I have been here with a group, on a date and flying solo to start out the night, always having a good time. Hours vary by the crowd so don't be surprised if the bar closes early on weekday nights. Drink up kids! read more

We were in Amarillo for the night at the Courtyard downtown and in need of a drink and dinner. Limiting ourselves to what we could walk to, the Yelp reviews led us to Ohms. OHMS, as in On Her Majesty's Service. We sat at the bar and engaged with the bartender, learning local flavor. There were a few locals and other out of towners on business (we being the exception as retired tourists on a 9000 mile road trip). The drinks were well poured (that's me), the wine pairings spot on (that's me again) and the bottled beer selection (nothing on tap) was adequate (that's my hubbie). There were 9 main course selections, nearly as many each of salads and appetizers. Everything sounded good. I had the filet sliders- best ever, and hubbie had the elk- also great, and not his first (note that its grass-fed elk from New Zealand, so not 'gamey'). Great ambiance in a historic building that attracts people you can have a good conversation with- we'll be back next time through. read more

While driving through Amarillo, we checked out our dinner options and after days of fast food and diner fare (all good in their own ways, but after a while, you want a change), we decided that something comfy and classy would be a good choice. I kind of wish we had gone to that tacky touristy big steak house thing instead; it would have been a better story (and value). I expected a little more elk and mashed potatoes for $34 (I guess everything isn't bigger in Texas) and our server had a bit of an attitude with us as soon as he discovered that we didn't plan to order wine. That happens waaaay too often! BUT the food was tasty (my elk was exceptionally tender and very well-prepared) and it was nice to sit down to a classy sort of meal meal after days and days on the road. read more

Kind of like the "CHEERS" of Amarillo only more sophisticated. Great community atmosphere with lots of regulars. Friendly and welcoming to all. Excellent food, great wait staff and good cocktails. The elk tenderloin was perfectly done and the sea bass special was melt in your mouth delicious. The only negative I would have is the noise level, it is quite noisy when it fills up. It wouldn't deter me from going again though! I would definitely recommend a reservation. read more

Surprisingly great food. Great bar service. I had the tenderloin sliders and they were awesome! I ordered the top shelf margarita and added a floater of Grand Marnier and it was very good. I had the surf and turf and, wow, the lobster pasta may have been the best I have ever had. The tenderloin was fantastic!, although it came out medium instead of medium rare. Really pretty solid place! Interesting menu items and fun choices you can't always find in this town. We had the duck with the grits and the elk with risotto. No complaints on the proteins, but the risotto was undercooked and still crunchy. That was kind of a surprise because it's fairly easy to prepare. Dessert: butterscotch pudding. Among the best places to eat in Amarillo- most recent visit I had the scallops and beef tenderloin with a mixed greens salad and the beef sliders for an appetizer. Truly delicious! So let me get this straight...Amarillo Texas...Dark..Shady parking lot...Strange name...but... Really good food. I was really impressed by this place. The menu was small, approx 6 entree's, but all of them seemed fantastic. I got the Elk, the first time i've ever eaten it, and for such a gamey food, they prepared it perfectly and mixed it with some amazing flavors on the plate. The beer selection is a little limited, but they make that up with wine. The price is high, and for Texas, i'm sure it's insanely high. They seemed to welcome anyone, so don't feel judged, but Ohm's definitely impressed me. read more

We came on a Saturday night and even though we didn't have a reservation we were seated immediately. The staff was friendly, however the wait staff could use a bit more attentiveness.We started off with the spinach artichoke dip which was good but different, normally at most places its thick here it was more of a liquid dip with spinach and tomatoes, but still good. He had the smoked tenderloin which he claims is first class!! I had the ribeye which was amazing plenty of food on the plate and a fabulous taste!! for dessert we had the citrus cheesecake which was fluffy and yummy!! Definitely a great place to have a cozy dinner, especially with the piano player there! They could easily be five star if they worked on the wait staff a bit and fixed the noise level and ambiance!! I've never been to OHMS for dinner, but the cafeteria style lunch is always tasty. They have a nice selection to choose from & they always have a salad that you can add to your meal. First timer here at OHMS, and I wasn't disappointed. It's a funky little place downtown, with parking on the east side of the fence, not the adjacent lot. When you enter, you'll be in a bar, no greeter, hang a right following delicious smells until you see the small gourmet cafeteria style set up. Grab a plate like a regular cafeteria, but that's where the similarity to Furr's or school ends. A blackboard lists the offerings of the day. Beef Stroganoff, Chicken Stuffed Peppers, Enchiladas, Shepard's Pie, and more. Salad, multiple desserts and flavored teas are also offered. Check out right there and find a table in one of the three or so dining rooms. Several people ate alone here, comfortably enjoying their lunch. Not cheap, $30 for two, but a nice treat. read more

Ate here twice during my visit to town. I was so impressed by the chef's talent in cooking both meals. Food was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. If you're seeking a higher quality dining experience in Amarillo, this is the place to go! Passing through with 4 children, we opted to order takeout, but dealing with Leslie on the phone left a lasting impression on me of great customer service, care and attention for food allergy requirements, and just a joy to deal with. The food met or exceeded our expectations and was all cooked to order. The lamb chops are a hearty portion and, though a bit peppery for my taste, delicious! Smoked sweet potatoes did not disappoint and were a great consistency. The oysters are the perfect start to the meal. My 8 yr old ate his entire portion of salmon, which was at least 6 oz! Our girls(age 12, 5 and 2) had the CFS sliders and the pork belly biscuits. Nothing left of them! What great food! Will return! read more

Meh, that sums up my review. The food was good, but not great. For the prices they charge I need the food to be great. If you're charging almost $30 for a plate of noodles, you're raising my expectations. The same applies to the service. It's fine to receive competent service at Chili's but not at an "upscale" eatery. The servers aren't food savvy. (If you need suggestions on pairings, you better look it up on your smartphone.) I can't justify visiting OHMS again. This was great for our date night out. Parking was easy at the nice size lot in front. We had a reservation so our table was ready and we sat to dine at a quiet pleasant table. Atmosphere is casual friendly so some were in coat and tie others in jeans. Service very friendly, started with the Fried egg salad then for main I had the Filet with mashed potatoes and my spouse had the Salmon both meals were excellent with good presentation. For dessert we split the Creme Brûlée. Most definitely will go back. read more
