This is my favorite sushi bar in Long Beach! All of the staff are very friendly and the sushi is amazing. The last time I called they still did not have any outdoor dining options but as soon as they do I will be going back since I just don't like taking sushi to go. My boyfriend and I used to come here at least once a week until COVID happened. We LOVE it. We always sit at the bar and the workers are always super friendly. They also play super fun music. Food is great too! They also have lunch and dinner happy hour I believe. read more

The happy hour from 3-7 is an amazing deal and you will not find anything else like it in Long Beach. Came here the night before thanksgiving. The location is a little odd to me since its right next to a motel. When we got in we asked about the sake but our server was unable to answer what it was. Then when we asked about the toro she also didnt know anything about it and had to go ask. I dont know if she is new or not but i hope she was new since she was clueless. We ordered some rolls and I got the sashimi deluxe. It was honestly very good. The quality seems fresh and good. I did not eat the uni one though so I dont know how it is. I have never been an uni person. Prices here are pretty good and not too expensive. One thing I did not like here was their ginger. It felt like I was eating fresh ginger. Great prices, great sushi! Honestly their half-price sushi is terrific, just half price! I wonder actually if it is really full price but they list it as half price in comparison to others. 4-star well deserved. Sushi Studio is in a location where the PCH flows busily both way all day. There's a decent parking lot for that reason. At walk-in, wait staff greets with big warm smiles and the interior setting already hints authenticity. All fish were well cut and fresh. I liked the fact that ponzu sauce for albacore was in a small tin next to the albacore instead of touched over the fish-- options. Prices are very reasonable for the location. Average sushi about $4.50. Definitely a good place to revisit. read more

From the outside, this Sushi place reminds me of a Mexican restaurant. I wasn't quite sure I was at the right place to meet my friends for sushi until I walked in a saw them sitting down! There is definitely nothing spectacular or even special about this place. The sushi is very mediocre compared to any other sushi place I have visited. I will have to say the food is cheap, you can get a few rolls for under $20 and not pay for it later on the toilet :) I have to say the menu drives me nuts. So we told them to slow down but their reasons were that we checked off our orders all at once.. so they insisted that it all come out at once (duh...). For a big order it would make sense to bring it between each incoming order not to complete the entire order. To me that's common sense no? Having a small table and barely any room to move around each of us ended up carrying dishes in one hand and eating out of the other hand. Yes Stephanie the portions are getting smaller.....AND the happy hour has been *changed* for the worse. They took away ALL the $1 sashimi specials much to our disappointment. I understand they might be getting tired of college students coming in and ordering a decent meal and spending less than $10 BUT do we ALL have to be punished?? Can't people who order regular price rolls and appetizers have the OPTION to add on the incredible seared tuna for $1 ??? They think they are saving money but our check was even less than we usually spend because we couldn't find anything worth ordering that compared to the valueof the $1 sashimi. We tried one of the $6 rolls but the pieces of fish on the top were so small we refused to humiliate ourselves by ordering another. Sushi Studio is my favorite sushi place to go to when I'm hungrier than just Sushi. I can't imagine a Sushi "purist" really digging this place but maybe that's because I always go for the wacky creations on special. Sushi Studio creates these madcap rolls, piles (for lack of a better term) and out-and-out decadent creations. They love to get creative with the sauce which is why I love it (for me, the more sauce the better!) They make their dishes spicy when they need to be and serve up huge portions that make you look like an amateur with the chopsticks. The bar is chill and the guys that work it are way cool.. everyone that works that is really down to earth and don't take themselves too seriously. Make sure you go for happy hour. Unlike some places, Sushi Studio doesn't throw only leftovers up on the special board.. they often highlight some of their best dishes. Don't cheat yourself by being turned off by the exterior. Well, they've got affordable sushi, always fresh, a pretty decent Happy Hour (M-Th, 3-6pm) and they get really creative with their rolls...it's nice to have variety. All of their rolls have catchy names (like "Sexy Girl", "Yellow Submarine" or "Green Machine") and don't have just the typical ingredients. Whenever I'm there I have to order their version of Tuna Tataki Sashimi and either a Spicy Tuna or Rainbow roll...but on my last adventure there I found a new roll, a "redheaded slut"-thing....no wait, that's a shot....ok, so I don't really remember what it's called but it was really good. Very good, fresh rolls! I only ever get my usual philly rolls or sashimi...I'm not a huge fan of the fried stuff, but apparently it's good so you got variety there! Look for coupons!! Even though this usually means that the business is dying for business, this is truly not the case. You can save 10-15% off your bill! Sushi Studio?? More like Sushi Closet, or Sushi Crawl Space. Holy Christ this place is tiny and ultra CROWDED!! Not recommended for the clausterphobic. I used to drive by this place and never gave it much thought. In fact, I kind of thought it looked a bit ghetto because it shares a parking lot with a shady looking motel. I figured maybe you could get the special "Crack Roll" in the parking lot. After hearing great things, we took some friends to check it out. Our experience started off really crappy because we had to park way down by the traffic circle. I guess the motel was all booked up that night. We had to wait forever for a table because they only have like four in the place! The staff was great and the menu is really cool. We finally got our table and ordered a variety of rolls. I thought the sushi was really good. One roll sucked, but that's because I ordered wrong. If I was basing this only on the food, I would give it 4 stars. Because of the parking and feeling like we were packed in like sardines (has to be a fire hazard) I have to knock off 2 stars. They really need to move to a bigger and better location. read more

And I can see why it's so revered--it's full of young people, young chef's and yes, the comic-book menu is pretty ingenius. As for it being a "sushi" studio I'd have to say the actual raw fish wasn't particularly good. I went for the chirashi and found the fish to be rubbery and the bowl to be disappointing in terms of what fixins it included (no veggies, furikake, or roe). But I'd have to say their selection of greasy, mayo-drizzled rolls was grand and my date's items were quite tasty. Still, I wouldn't call it sushi! The place is fun, affordable, and the cooked, sauce-smothered rolls are relatively yummy--but the food is just not very healthy (and the name a little misleading). read more

Parking is a nightmare, it's right next door to some shady motel that looks like there are daily drug deals that go on there. Once you get inside be prepared to wait in a line that's out the door for at least 45 minutes. The tables are squished together so you if you stretch you will hit someone else that's eating at this terrible joint. They have comic book menus. "oo... cool" What are we, 4? I don't need pictures of superheroes saying POW! next to a description of a spicy tuna roll. There's definitely nothing authentic about this place. Most of the staff are Vietnamese and Thai. The rice was super dry and the seaweed was tough like rubber and impossible to break apart. The cut rolls were all cut in huge chunks that looked like the size of mini hamburgers. It's looks terrible when you drive past it and even worse when you dine there. Unbelievable! One of the worst sushi places I have ever been to. :O( read more

Our favorite place to partake of sushi. The place is small and extremely lively. The sushi chefs greet you from their post as you walk in. The servers are all very attractive young girls and very friendly. It's nice to not have to deal with a waitress with an attitude or one that comes onto your man because she's working her tip. Many times, it's me paying the check. I'm not going to tip you well if you've treated me like I'm not sitting there the whole time. Use your noodle! These girls do. I'm vegan, so i obviously don't eat sushi, but I love Sushi Studio because they offer the most options for vegetarian rolls that I've ever seen at a Sushi place. Besides your typical avocado and cucumber rolls, they also have a veggie crunch roll (basically a veggie tempura roll), the yellow submarine (with mango), and the green machine. Which are all great. Though, tbh, the yellow submarine is exactly the same thing as the veggie crunch roll, except with mangoes and a higher price. I've introduced Sushi Studio to many of my non-vegetarian friends, and they love it as well. Some of their favorites are Sexy Girl(if I remember correctly) and the Dragon roll. It can get crowded and loud, but we've yet to have an issue with that. There's been times when there are lines, Friday nights, which is when me and my friends avoid the place. I don't do lines. I've been at Sushi Studio during its peak hours though, and even then, they have superb service. I don't think my glass has ever gone more than a few minutes without being refilled. =]] read more

Each of the last 3 times I have been to this place have been very good experiences. I got seated quickly and the service was equally prompt and courteous. I've been to many sushi spots around the LA area and this is one I periodically revisit. The fish has been good quality each time, and the menu-written-like-a-comic-book is a nice touch. My one principle complaint is the lack of parking. This place shares a parking lot with what I would call a motel of questionable use, and the parking explicitly set aside for this sushi place is limited to say the least. I think I've only been able to park in the lot one out of all of my visits. Parking issue aside, each of my visits has been good. read more

Even though I live in the Shore.... I would rather drive & come here for sushi. Yes the place is slightly weird as they share the parking lot with Don's Motel (Free HBO) and wait at times is out of control.... but it always so fun with a lively crowd. I typically don't bother with a table, the sushi chefs / waitresses are very attentive at the sushi bar and you get to see more of the action. The parking sitch does suck....but its worth it to me! I haven't found another sushi place that comes close to the quality of Sushi Studio. No thanks to Sushi of Naples or any of them on 2nd Street. My faves to order: yellowtail collar appetizer (it looks bizarre, but it simply is the best unknown part of the fish!), salmon/yellowtail/escola sushi, sexie girl roll, the roll w/ tuna & mint and they tempura style it.... amazing. Oh OK and a spicy scallop hand roll.... but that's it! Well, I am sure I need to try this one too.... I do recommend whenever there is a roll w/ all those sauces on it, I just ask them to leave it off. So if you aren't into the sickly sweet / overly salty sauces, I think it improves the rolls by simply asking for them to forgo it. Only thing I am missing there is I wish they had agedashi tofu.... Not as good as I was expecting given the reviews. Kind of a noisy, rock 'n'roll atmosphere. Not that there's anything wrong with this, it's just that the food wasn't really memorable, and the vibe was a little rough around the edges for me. Seems they focus more on specialty rolls than on the service of unblemished, pure sashimi. I went in by myself one time between lunch and dinner. A bonus is that they ARE open during this odd time where most sushi spots are closed. But the sushi chef was kind of in-my-face and way too talkative and flirty for me. Parking is atrocious here and it shares said parking lot with one of the sketchiest "No Tell Motels" in all of Long Beach. The seating situation there is enough to drive anyone bat sh*t crazy. The place is small. Its one of those places you go to with as few people as you can to minimize your seating wait time which can be hefty if you come at the wrong time. Service is really hit and miss. As with all restaurants, there is some range in the level of service depending on who you get.. Sushi Studio's is pretty wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide. On to the good. The food rocks! Let's clarify, you're not going to get a mind blowing culinary experience where you are tasting the subtle nuances and the delicate flavors of freshly caught seafood carefully prepared. You are presented with a wide array of fun and some definately non traditional takes on sushi. A few are meh but the overwhelming majority of the menu items are fantastic. The food is presented and crafted in such a way that it is as much a fun visual experience as it is delicious. A lot of sushi restaurants fall into a rut where they lack a true signature item to differentiate themselves from the pack. Sushi Studio definately has a plethora to choose from. Monkey Roll......have to try it. I started out this review giving the restaurant a three based on all the non culinary problems I have with this place but then I realized it really should for the most part be about the food.
