I sort of knew my tint would probably be too dark but I was hoping that it wouldn't be. Then they broke out the stupid light reader device. FML. Let me back up. I just moved here from Texas and the tint laws are different and Texas is not as stringent. So, of course, Hawaii's scam tint laws would mean I'd have to get my car retinted. But that's not the worst part! I had to return to Oil Changers THREE times before I got my sticker: once due to too dark tint, once to show that I had fixed the tint ($400 later), and once after I registered my car & got my HI plates. That is UTTERLY ridiculous. But not the fault of the good folks at Oil Changers. The woman who did my inspection was professional and nice. We both had a laugh (I was crying on the inside) when she broke out her light device. And then HI makes them take photos of the car -- talk about unnecessary bureaucracy. JFC So I failed my inspection but she was like just come back and if the inspection line is long, pull up to an oil bay. I did that and the guys were super cool. On my THIRD AND FINAL trip back to Oil Changers, I decided to just get an oil change as well. The dude with the tattoos is super friendly and professional. He said full synthetic would start $89 or something. That's not far off what I'd pay on the mainland. They topped off all the fluids, did the oil, & put my sticker on. I was in and out in like 25 mins. To top it off, the dude remembered me from my second time coming in. I had a disabled USMC Texas plate which he remembered and automatically applied a 15% military discount. Talk about awesome! Look, I'm sure there are lots of places in Honolulu to get your Hawai'i scam inspection and oil change but the people at *this* Oil Changers are so nice and professional, I'll come back for their excellent service. I was a first time customer and I pulled up into the driveway. A mechanic came out and told me that I needed to get in the line as close to the fence as I could. I complied and waited in that line for nearly 3 hours for an oil change. As I was finally next in line, a car bypassed me and went straight ahead of me. I got out frustrated and asked the girl that worked there why that car cut in front of me? She came out, eating a sandwich, her mouth full and said they took him because he only needed an oil change. I told her that was the service I needed and I'd been waiting for nearly 3 hours. She told me I was in the wrong line and asked why didn't I see the signs out front showing one line for oil change and the other line was for vehicle inspection. I told her that her mechanic told me to get in was the vehicle inspection line. He never asked what service I was there for, just to move my car behind the last car closest to the fence. She continued to eat her sandwich all while rolling her eyes at me and saying it's my fault that I didn't read all the signs and turned and walked away. When they finally got to my service, I was fuming mad. No apologies or empathy of any kind. Just what was I there for and when I would need to come back for my next oil change. Three hours of my life wasted at a shop that has no respect for their customers. I told the guy who gave me the sticker with the next oil change date and told him I would NEVER be back there again. He just ignored me. Rude to say the least. All because the mechanic told me the incorrect line to get into. I always get my oil change here at FastLube in Aiea for walk-in. Come 30 mins early coz there's alot of people doing walk-ins too. So for today, sunday, they opened at 9:30am, i called them around 9:45 and lady said waiting time is 15minutes. They are doing this new thing now where you just stay in your vehicle. I would rather not and stay in starbucks but whatever. I only came in for an oil change but got succumb on other services too. Took an hour and 10minutes for the whole appointment.Kudos to the two guys working their asses off on a busy day. When I left, the parking line is starting to fill-up! so come early. The place to go for safety inspections; and they also offer a fair price for an oil change. Seems like several places that used to do Safety inspections have closed or just dont do inspections anymore (best used to be the iPad lady at the Kailua Hele, which is now a parking lot)...as a result you have to schedule months in advance, or take it to one of the big guys that just want to fail your tires so you have to buy 4 new ones from them. These guys to first come, first serve, which is helpful if you're like me and dont like scheduling yourself 3-4 weeks out. You'll sit in line for awhile, but you can get it done same day. Service: folks there are professional and polite. I'll likely be back next time I need oil or a safety check. read more

I usually go to kapolei however their safety check person wasn't in today and oil changers aiea stated they had. I was in pearl city so I thought hey why not. I called around 10 Amish. The man who picked up said they reached their limit but that to come 2-4 as that's when they'll start again. So I stayed in the pearl city area and came back at 2. There was a sign that said they reached their limit but will resume 2-4. I go inside to get started as no one was coming outside. Usually at kapolei there is someone always outside to acknowledge any new car. We'll I go inside and the rudest lady at the front says that they aren't taking any more. So I tell her the guy said to come back at 2. So she's like "oh he didn't tell you come like 12 because you should know that you have to get in line before 2 because it's like 2 hours and you have to know that it takes a while." So I tell her "no he said 2 that's why I'm here at 2. " I tell her that maybe you should also change the sign because it makes it seem like you may line up at 2. It's all very confusing" she rambles on again about how i should know. Honestly I'm not psychic. When I go elsewhere it doesn't take 2 hours so I would not have guessed what they are doing, how they do things, or how long they take. I was told come at 2. Now I wasnt even looking to get serviced because if that's what they're thinking when they say things then fine and i dont want service from confusing places as it does not seem like a quality place if that's how they act. . However, I was hoping for some insight such as "yeah I guess it can be confusing, or they should have told you sooner, or sorry you waited 4 hours for nothing. We'll change the way we inform ppl and our signs" Instead I got attitudinal Anna there. Never gonna go here. I thought about just doing my oil change since I'm there and that had no line but the way they work, I didn't feel confident in the type of service they'd give. read more

Sunday, called ahead for an estimated wait time for a safety inspection at 11am, was informed that there is currently no wait time but the inspector will be going to lunch at 12pm, I asked what time they end inspection, was told at 3pm. I stated that I will be there at 1pm. Arrived at the location at 1pm only to be met with a sign that stated, "Inspector is gone for the day." Wasted my time and gas going here. Just left this place and I've already told myself and my BF that we won't be going anywhere else for a Oil Change. It's so simple!! Just drive up, you don't even need to exit your car and they do everything in and out within 20mins. The service was absolutely pleasant and friendly. I need a safety check. I had a bit of a wait as it was end of the month crush to get that safety check emblem. When i got in i didnt find my ins card. Attendant asked if it was on my phone. I checked bcuz i usually take a photo of my card. She actually meant that i could check my ins. Co. Acct. for my card on file. They do know their stuff. I said no to if i screenshot my card. My misunderstanding, my loss. I pulled out and it slowly dawned on me "hey could she have meant that I could login to my ins app and get my card?" I did and went back. Well I went back, showed my online ins. Card and my registration was expired! What to do? She said i could get safety check done, go to DMV to get my registration straightened out and come back without waiting in line again. Well I couldn't reject that idea. I did everything she said. In the end, I drove out with legit car registration and safety check in 1 day. I'm retired so I could spend the time to do all that was asked if me to do. I fill my car with '76 gas and always wondered about the "oil changers". Well today, my Mom told me that her Honda CRV needed an oil change so I looked up this business on Yelp and it stated that no appointments necessary. Since I live nearby, I drove my Mom's car and the staff was very helpful and friendly. I sat in my Mom's car and they did the rest. Ended up doing other things which was recommended, however, if you do check in on Yelp, you get a discount, so don't forget to do so. Definitely will come back, as time is money. A lot of other oil change places required you make an appointment and you end up waiting and waiting. Not here, service is quick, professional, and friendly. Highly recommended! read more

Go early like as soon as they open because it is first come first served for safety checks. Christian did a great job once it was my turn. Due to COVID there is no waiting room so you have to wait in your car on on outside benches. They say to stay in your car but if you want to run over to Starbucks as soon as you move up in line, you should have enough time to go and make it back in time before you have to move up in line.
