This shop location has had so many iterations of food styles, I can't keep up. This one might be one of my favorites so far (that's not as ominous as it sounds). Oiso labels itself as Sushi and Korean and that pretty much sums it up. It's small, and thankfully they haven't crammed it full of tables and booths. I like that the aisles are wide enough for two people to walk. With seating for about 40 or so, it's a calm atmosphere. The colors are muted with the only strong color in the orange lights flanking the chef's spot. I didn't ask for recommendations. I just ordered what looked good and that ended up being the bulgogi bibimbap and shrimp tempura. They obviously had nothing to do with each other when it comes to flavors, but I really couldn't make up my mind. It probably wasn't a good idea except that I now have enough leftovers for the next day. The tempura arrived first at the suggestion of the waiter (thanks for that) and with six pieces, would have been enough on its own. It tasted good, both fresh and with subtle flavors. It was good enough that I look forward to trying some of the other sushi and sashimi options. The bibimbap was a wow for me. It arrived still steaming in the stone bowl. The rice at the bottom and sides had that crispy crunch. I don't know if it should have been that way, but it worked for me. It added a nice texture. The bulgogi was sliced small enough where when I stirred it with the rice and vegetables, there was some of it in every bite. Along with the entree, a bowl of steaming miso soup and some sides magically ended up my table. All were a hit or miss to me. The kimchi and peppers were very good. The daikon was almost too soft and didn't have much flavor. The miso had a stronger flavor than the miso from some restaurants. It was good, but maybe because I was already full, it didn't wow me. I'd eat it if it came with the meal, like here, but maybe wouldn't order it on its own, especially with all the other choices on the menu. It's always a joy to try a new restaurant. I'm happy that I chose Oiso for dinner after seeing it on Yelp. I love the menu options and how it's not so overwhelming with the sushi options. Each of the rolls sounded delicious. There is no BOGO but don't let that turn you away. The rolls are quality and freshly made. It's made to order so it makes a huge difference, especially coming straight from the sushi chef. I ordered the spicy sashimi roll and it was on point. It was recommended by the waiter. I couldn't leave without trying the bibimbap. It was cooked to perfection. The side dishes came with side dishes and accommodated the meal very well. Ate here on a Tuesday night. Small place with a mixed clientele. As we arrived a large Japanese group was leaving after their meal. I took that as a good sign, that the food was to Japanese taste and well done. We had the Hamachi Kama and it was very good; fried Yellowtail collar and very tasty. We got three rolls for two people and had a struggle to finish it all. The Hurricane was a nice one and a bit different from any roll I had experienced before. This is a lovely place with a big emphasis on sushi and sashimi. They also have a Korean menu which we did not get a chance to try. Small clean place with good service. Give it a try. read more

I'm a frequent Oiso visitor because to me, they have quality sushi and Korean food that's not terribly far away. I visited Oiso for the first time when they had just opened and they have come such a long way since then! Their sushi rolls are really good and the 2 for $18 special roll combo really makes it worth it! I also love a plain spicy tuna roll and they have a 2 for $10 basic roll combo which is a great option for lunch. I also really appreciate that their sushi rolls aren't rice heavy which makes it feel like I'm really eating sushi and not just rice. We usually order the Screaming O and Carpenter Fire Station which are both really good. You also can't go wrong with the short ribs. Pricey but worth it. read more

We always start with the tuna "spicy tower" appetizer, which is very, very good. Every roll of sushi here is fantastic-- I've tried somewhere between 6 and 10 different rolls. I recommend the "spicy sashimi" special roll in particular (my favorite). The oiso roll and the mango fantasy are excellent as well. The servers are very friendly and attentive and always remember me and my husband, even though we only come once every few months (it's a bit of a drive or we would come more often). Update: my husband and I have been to Oiso many times now, and tried most of the special rolls, the bento box, and a few other items. Everything is delicious here! The only thing bad about this place is that it isn't open every day, 24 hours a day. Seriously though, if we are craving sushi and it's Sunday night, we wait til Monday. (We usually order on Saturday night, but these days who knows what day it is!) The fish is always fresh. Lovely to see the same faces when we go pick up. You can tell it is family-owned. The rolls have large pieces of fish in them instead of other places that boast BOGO but have rolls that look large but are mostly rice. This is one of those special places we got take-out from as much as we could afford during COVID to keep them going. And I almost don't want to post this so they won't get any busier, but we love them too much not to. Besides, we gotta make sure we have help keeping them open during this crazy time! I give five star reviews only to restaurants that go beyond the expected and really surprise me, and Oiso did just that in a big way. Oiso is a family-owned restaurant. The husband, Young Cho Kim, is the sushi chef. His wife Gi is often out serving meals to the customers if she isn't helping in the back. When my wife and I first walked in, we were greeted with genuine smiles that made us almost feel like we were old friends. Mr. Kim and his wife are so friendly, and Gi especially loves talking to everyone when she can. The other waitress who presently works there is also very friendly. Besides the food, just being there in the restaurant makes me feel happy. Now for the food. So far, Ly (my wife) and I have only ordered the sushi. Unlike some other sushi places we've been to that pretty much just slice the sushi rolls and put them on a place, what we get here is nothing short of art. Mr. Kim is talented with his presentation, so before you even taste it, you feel like you're getting something special. We've eaten about half the sushi menu over the course of the five visits we've been there as of this date, and each item comes to to the table looking beautiful, and the taste never fails to amaze. My wife's favorite is the dancing eel; I can't really say I have a favorite because I like them all. The prices are also very reasonable considering what you get. Some of the individual special rolls cost around $12 each, but if you buy two special rolls, you get them both for $18. We usually share two special rolls and one regular, and that's enough for the both of us. Ly and I have have decided to go there every Monday, and it's something special that we look forward to every week from the very next day. We've been to other sushi places in the Cary area, and this is by far the best in our opinion. The staff is genuinely sweet and friendly, the dishes are beautiful, and the food is fresh and very tasty. Took the 45 minute ride for a birthday sushi lunch and it was well worth it. Service was extremely friendly and right on point. The 4 sushi speciality rolls we had were all delicious. They were very fresh and had layers of flavor. If you're in the area, or even if you're not, take the trip and try Oiso. We will absolutely be back. Just a quick update..we couldn't stop talking about how good our lunch was at Oiso so, 2 weeks later we went back. We shared 4 speciality rolls and again fabulous. We have now tried 8 of the speciality rolls, and I think there's 36 so my New Years resolution is to try them all. I am positive that this will be the only resolution I've ever kept! When my mom was in town, we were on our way over to H Mart and I wanted to find a sushi place nearby to take her to dinner - yelp landed us at Oiso! Unfortunately, our timing was right at a peak hour because they were extremely busy. Since it was a very busy time, dinner took a bit longer than we expected but the service was awesome. The staff was so kind and even gave us some treats for waiting patiently. Crudo [Appetizer]: (chef's choice of assorted sashimi, radish and vegetables with special ponzu and aji amarillo sauce) The sauce was really good and a great compliment to the sashimi. I would order this again to get the sauce with my sashimi! Sushi Bento [Entree]: If you look at the pictures you can tell, the presentation is great. The bento box that I got looked (and was) so fresh and colorful - I could definitely say one of the best I've ever had! You also get your choice of a sushi roll with the bento box. Edamame as another snack, Sushi Combo #1 (6-piece nigiri and spicy tuna roll), and the green tea mochi for dessert did not disappoint either. We ordered a couple of special sushi rolls, which tasted fresh. However, I was disappointed to see same ingredients being used over and over again. Half of the special rolls on their menu consisted of tempura shrimp and wasabi dressing. Not much of a variety there. Appetizers on the other hand were pretty good. Lovely family owned sweet little gem. Stopped by here before getting on a flight. It was a bit of a detour but definitely well worth it. Fast, friendly service with a smile... this is definitely a place worth trying. We had sushi specialty rolls, two for $20. You cannot beat the price and boy was it super yummy. We ordered the Oiso roll, and Salmon panko roll. The Salmon panko roll was too much sweetness for me but my boyfriend loved the crispy panko crust with the sweet chili sauce. I was super hungry, but the sushi just wasn't special at all, especially for the price we paid for it. The sushi and sashimi are super fresh. The restaurant had great service and a nice, professional atmosphere. We ordered the Sashimi Mori Regular entree and two specialty rolls (fire station and spicy sashimi), which were very good, especially the sashimi and spicy sashimi specialty roll. They were all beautifully prepared and presented - although, the imitation crab was quite the odd addition - but free :). The tuna, salmon, and octopus were definitely delicious. The specialty rolls were awesome - just a little overwhelmed by the mayo and hot sauce, so I was a little sad I couldn't taste the plentiful tuna that had been provided.
