You know they're doing something well when they gave me the complete wrong order and I still give them 5 stars. This spot sells out, so I thought ahead and I put in a morning order of a falafel and turkey sandwich for later pick up. Which FYI: doesn't guarantee the sandwich. They called me at about noon to let me know they sold out of falafel, so I opted for the banh mi. Upon pick up and unwrapping at home, instead of the turkey sandwich I ordered, they gave me the Italian. Again, not what I wanted but I ain't mad at it. The banh mi. Wow. It was warm with freshly cooked pork, fresh and crunchy vegetables on a soft baguette style roll. I ate half warm and it was absolute perfection, the other half I enjoyed the next day cold, and either way it still was a flavorful and non greasy sandwich. The Italian was a beast and it was good. The focaccia style bread was a unique taste, and while I like the classic sub roll, this was a great variety. It was almost muffaletta style. Sandwiches are $16+ but they are thick and high quality with most ingredients house made; it's easily 2 meals. I have to give yet another five star review to Ok's because of their kani katsu!!! I just tried it today and JFC... what a great invention. The patty has such a satisfying crunch and then it gives way to the creamy crabby middle. The shaved cabbage is the perfect vegetable to absorb the heat from the katsu yet still remain crunchy, and the house made tartar sauce has the perfect amount of acidity anti balance everything out. There's even a little lemon that comes on the side if you want more acid. The kabocha squash falafel has been my craving lately, but this one is the breakthrough hit until crab season is over. read more

I could tell they use fresh lettuce, tomatoes and the meat/cheese were good but it just had so much mayo that it weighed the sandwich down and eventually made everything too soggy to enjoy. A plus about this place is that they had a bunch of asian drink and chip options. In my opinion, the sandwiches weren't worth almost $20 each. There are a lot of other delis around that you can get a good, reasonably priced sandwich. Don't get the fuss over meat between slices of bread. Never have. Not my thing. Sure, maybe if you need fuel on a hike or are eight years old and restricted to eating lunch in the school cafeteria, but a sandwich is never what I'd select with choices on hand and coins in my pocket. Yesterday, I journeyed to Mr. Ok's deli to experience the (homemade) spam mi, to see what all the buzz is about. Well, after a few bites of that crisp baguette shell with its soft pillowy innards; fatty, salty, hammy, porky goodness; thinly sliced cucumbers; plus, sour and crisp pickled veg, my heart sang. If you've been trying - and failing - to get your hands on one of Ok's Deli's delicious-but-often-sold-out signature Sichuan Hot Chicken Sandwiches, I am here to tell you that the Spam Mi is a more than worthy alternative (provided you like Spam, of course). Unlike the chicken superstar, the Spam Mi are not sold out in 15 minutes (all right, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit), and I was even able to snag one at 2:30 p.m. on a Sunday (Ok's is only open until 3 p.m.). I get that spam can be a polarizing food, but I have always been a fan. (Did you know there is a museum dedicated to Hormel's Spam in Austin, Minnesota? Yes, I have been, but I digress ...) The Spam Mi, as you may have figured out by now, is Ok's Deli's take on the Vietnamese banh mi. The Spam Mi had sliced cucumber, cilantro, jalapeños, house pickled daikon radish and carrot, a house mayo, and a house made spam on a French roll. This is definitely a case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. All the ingredients work so well together, balancing spicy, sour, crunchy, salty, sweet. I could eat one of these every week. Having said that, I should note that the Spam Mi, while delicious, does not have the funkiness of the fish sauce-infused mayo, if you're into that. And the bread is softer and not as crusty. But it's still worth it. I will still be frequenting the many terrific banh mi places in the East Bay for my more traditional banh mi fix, but if I'm near Ok's when they're open, I'm getting me a Spam Mi. read more

They didn't stand out at all which I find is typical for banh mi sandwiches. The homemade spam didn't taste like your typical spam, it lacked that spam flavor. The Konbini Crab sandwich was creamy, but kind of bland. It was cool, which was nice for a warm day, but it was otherwise kind of a boring basic sandwich. It might be because the crab part doesn't have much flavor whereas the egg salad part does. I saved the Oxtail sandwich in the fridge and had it the next day by microwaving the sandwich and putting the sauce over it. Despite that, I thought it was still pretty good. The sandwich was well-flavored without being salty (though that is something you could control depending on how much sauce you put into the sandwich). There is a VERY SLIGHT amount of spice. ECO NOTES Sandwich Packaging: Sandwiches wrapped in parchment paper (non-compostable in Oakland, so this belongs in trash) and then in a plastic foodware container (not recyclable in Oakland so this belongs in trash) or foil (recyclable in Oakland if clean, trash if it has food and grease/oil). Sauce Packaging: Brown paper soup container. Napkins: Single-use disposable paper napkins Bag: White paper bag Bins: They have a black bin for trash and a blue bin for recycling, but they don't have good signs educating customers on what goes where. Round 2 - tried the konbini egg salad sando that is back on the menu. Wanted the amazing BLT again but it's now off the menu. So tried the Italian Combo instead. The konbini was off the charts great - best egg salad sando I've ever had. The Italian combo was average at best. Sesame roll ruined it. Sesame just doesn't belong on an Italian sando. Gotta try the Bahn Mi and the hot chicken next. read more

After seeing this place pop up on my Instagram feed for what seems like a countless number of times, I would be remiss not to try Ok's Deli before my upcoming graduation at Berkeley. Usually, places that garner a lot of social media attention turn out to be just subpar or underwhelming. But, after my visit today, I can say with full certainty that I get it. I understand the hype. My friend and I came on an Easter Sunday afternoon as it only seems appropriate to celebrate the rebirth of Christ with indulgent, succulent fried chicken sandwiches. We both ordered their bread and butter: the classic Sichuan chicken sandwich. The sandwiches took only ten minutes to make, and the employee personally handed us our order (do keep in mind that they operate as takeout only at the moment). The sandwich was phenomenal to say the least. I can't say I've ever had iceberg lettuce on my chicken sandwich, but it was a welcome addition with its crisp texture. The honey mustard sauce paired with the vinaigrette were also excellent contrasts to the fattiness of the chicken thigh, but the cherry on top was that heavenly sesame seed bun (made in-house btw). In fact, everything here from the spam to the diverse array of breads are all impressively made in-house, which may explain the higher-than-normal price ranges. With the superior quality and more than excellent taste, the prices are fair and warranted imho. I definitely will be back! I saw a nearby couple share a crab / egg salad sando that looked bussin, and I'll definitely be having what they had my second time around. read more

If I could give a 4.5 star, I would do that. Cause that's where Ok's sits for me - not quite a home run but it's definitely close when it comes to their specialty sandwiches, less so with the classics. Tldr; go with one of their specialty sandwiches for the best bang for your buck. Staff is really nice. Their drinks and chip selection is great even if the bags are hella big. I went by myself and got 2 sandwiches lol cause I've been dying to try this place. Lunch for tomorrow, I figured. I got the Sichuan chicken and the roast beef sandwich from the classics. Lowkey wish I had gotten the Italian but the roast beef sounded so good. Dust off those eating-in-a-car skills you developed from the early days of the pandemic, cause if you're like me and are not local/have a place to go back and eat this at, your best off with eating in your car over a blanket of napkins while the chicken sandwich is still hot. The flavor of the chicken sandwich was fantastic. 5/5 stars. I got the spicy, which had a little kick but like... don't go in expecting Hotboys levels of spice. More like, slightly spicer than Wendy's spicy chicken. It's flavor was pretty different than your standard spicy chicken, which was nice, and I don't like mala so I was pleasantly surprised to not taste any of that. The flavor felt more Taiwanese to me but I also don't know the nuances of taiwanese or Sichuan soooo. The roast beef sandwich was a nice and beefy sandwich, which was good given that it was $19. They're pretty generous with the meat (to be fair it was basically twice as big as the chicken sandwich) buuut I think I've been spoiled by a bunch of great delis in the bay that give you just as much / the right amount for a large lunch for less. I wish I liked it more, but by the time I got around to eating it (second lunch after an appointment lol) I think it had lost some of it's crunch from the onions (unsurprisingly). I also couldn't really taste the cheese, which was a shame cause I was excited for that white cheddar. The bread has also gotten a little soggy in places which made it harder to eat. And deli style sandwiches are not things I expect to need to eat immediately for it to hold up and taste good. Def in hindsight with how soggy it was, would not have bought a sandwich for later. It was still a solid sandwich, just not one that I would pay that much for when I could go to a sandwich shop and get a whole combo for the same price. It was good but not mind blowing. Not like Little Lucca's in burlingame, where I would def pay $19 cause they got this killer garlic sauce you don't see a lot elsewhere. You're better off going with one of Ok's specialty sandwiches and getting the classics from a proper deli. read more

I came to OK's Deli for the Krabby Patty Collab. I arrived right 11am. There was a lot of employees making sandwiches. This deli is booming right from the time I opens, so the food must be good. BUT, from my experience I found the staff to be semi-unfriendly or indifferent. It took about 20 plus minutes to get my order despite being the first one to order, I assume online orders came in prior to me being the first person to order in-person. I found the Krabby Patty, which was a panko covered burger patty with katsu sauce, 1000 island, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and pickles to be just that...OK. Not good, not great, just ok. There are only two tables available outside and a row of chairs to wait and/or eat from. Based on my first experience, I don't feel the need to come back. read more

Have been here a few times and have always received excellent sandos, but today I tried the Sisig Bolillo and god d&$! was that thing absolutely . The bread was insane, egg was insane, meat and peppers were insane, new craving unlocked. Will be back, a lot of times, for that one. read more
