Definitely worth the hype. We had seen this place recently on our drive home and decided to stop by. We ended up getting 2 orders of 5 piece boneless wings. We wanted to try multiple flavors, so we got the okaay fire! and the sweet n sour. The okaay fire had a nice strong kick but it wasn't too bad, still very tasty. The sweet n sour was reminiscent of other Korean fried chicken glazes(definitely tasty). We also got the sweet n spicy glaze chicken sandwich meal. We were a bit timid about trying that flavor(we were worried it would be a tad bit too sweet), but it was delicious. Great flavor over all. The fries were nice and crispy, but we would have liked them more if they were more fresh. The cheese balls were nice and hot, good cheese pull. I saw Okaay chicken open up in town and I was excited to try it because I love a good boneless wing. The thing that caught my eye the most was how crunchy the chicken looked. My boyfriend and I decided to go for a quick bite to eat and we both go something different. The sweet n sour flavor tasted great, but after many wings it became a little overwhelming. Today I ordered the bone in wing meal and I got the k spicy flavor and oh my god it was so spicy to the point where it wasn't even enjoyable and I'm someone who can tolerate spicy food. You get more of the spicy feeling that you can't even taste the flavor because you're focused on how painful it is. My nose was running down with snot eating it and drinking water didn't even help me. I ended up having to wait for the chicken to cool down and take it off the bone because it was much more manageable to eat that way. I was spiced out. The okaay fire that I usually get is already spicy as it is but the k spicy is another level. It's probably a me thing, but I definitely wouldn't get this k spicy flavor again. I added cheese, cheese which never melted..low quality i imagined. Cole slaw was decent, I added salt & pepper. Also ordered cheese balls also decent. My friend ordered Homemade K-pickle...I thought was disgusting, very sweet. Stopped by after shopping nextdoor at Costless. The store itself was clean and bright with balloon arches outside promoting their grand opening. I ordered the 8 pc wing meal which comes with waffle fries and a medium drink. I asked if they could split flavors like they do at Wingstop to try two flavors but the cashier advised the way to do that is just to order the basic Crispy then get two sauces to try. I picked Sweet n Sour and the Okaay Fire. The wings came fairly quickly and were hot and crispy indeed. The thing that took me aback initially was the pervading sweet smell of the wings? Not sure if it was due to the seasonings or if it was something in the fryer oil, but it made the fried chicken smell like a dessert rather something savory in my opinion. The Sweet n Sour sauce had mainly one note which was sweet. Pass. The Fire sauce was tangy and a lot more tasty with garlic and ginger undertones and a bit of a kick to it. It reminded me of a kimchi base when I first sampled it. This was a sauce I could get behind and it's what made the meal for me. Waffle fries were airy and crisp, no complaints there. This was a good start for Okaay Chicken. It was decent, but I don't know if it was memorable enough for me to make it a destination dining spot. If I'm in the 'hood running errands I might come back. But I'd still vote for BBQ Chicken over Okaay. This was just Okaay, but I'll give it a generous 4 stars to encourage them to keep fighting. But once again, I felt that the staff needed Help. The front cashier was doing everything she could to manage, but it was a lot to ask for how busy it was. She stayed cool and collective, but I could see she was extremely overwhelmed. If the ownership does not fix that, I could see this establishment, not reaching its full potential.
