I thought I had reviewed this place already. I have probably brought a handful of people to enjoy this place. A few friends and I was told of this all you can eat sushi place on Calaveras Boulevard closer to Highway 680. It's in a corner shopping center with Starbucks, a dim sum Chinese restaurant, Christie's donuts which is on the corner of Calaveras Boulevard and Park Victoria. First impression: It's clean and can certainly accommodate large parties as I have seen parties up to 20 people celebrating a birthday as well as tables and booths occupied by couples and small groups. It's a no nonsense ordering system that you have choices of regular menu or premium menu. Premium items are highlighted in red. The difference is only $5.00 so I suggest people get the premium menu so the entire menu is all offered. Honestly, I think I've been there about five times and right now, I think I have enjoyed 80% of the menu items right now. The staff are very swift and friendly. They even fill your water glasses constantly. I believe we can order three or four items at a time and I'm told at about 10 minute intervals. I remember a waitress said that they're not allowed to enter an order until 10 minutes have pashe'd, but that has never been a problem as by the time the first set of food arrives. you are enjoying the yummy plates/bowls as well the company of friends and/orfamily. Although it's all you can eat, I appreciate that the portions are not extremely large so you can order multiples and each time food comes out fresh, newly fried, newly baked, newly made or simply newly created. My favorites are the Age-dashintofu, salmon carpaccio, shrimp tempura, UnagI-Don, island hand roll, karage chicken, smoke salmon, veggie tempura, and many of the maki rolls. I have tasted and likely would not order the udon soup because it was extra salty. Also, I don't order steam rice as rice can be a stomach filler. (I'm ok with the rice from the rolls and unagi-Don mini bowls) However, the fried rice is pretty good, but have to add a few drops of soy sauce. My friends who loves seafood, love the grilled mackerel (saba shioyaki) baked mussels and fried softshell crab, as well as squid and mushroom mini salad and maki rolls such as Godzilla roll, double salmon roll, crunch roll, dynamite roll, Milpitas roll plus a dozen more. The simple, no nonsense dessert of mochi ice cream is the perfect ending. It's usually a choice between green tea Mochi ice cream scoop and mango Moch ice cream scoop. They also offer sake, Japanese beer, Japanese soda, regular soda, as well as iced tea, lemonade, Arnold Palmers, and probably more I have not mentioned. I do wish they offer seasonal or special items (not on the menu), like mini ramen bowls or mini curry rice bowls. if specials are offered, it can be an extra menu card or staff can mention the specials when they take your order. Btw the QR code on table doesn't work, but that's fine with me bc I enjoy the interaction, plus I don't want to flip from eating then grabbing my cell phone to scroll. So far so good, everyone I have brought here or recommended to this place is/are happy and very pleased. Can't wait to go back to Okawa soon.

We were craving AYCE sushi and this place was recommended. The price on a weekday evening seemed fair. The quality was okay and not the freshest. The salmon, in particular, just tasted like a general store-bought smoked salmon. One of the rolls we ordered was supposed to be seared as it mentioned on the menu but it was not. The service the day we came was rather slow unfortunately.

My friends and I were craving sushi, so we decided to try Okawa Sushi for the first time. When we got there, it was not busy at all and we were seated right away. The restaurant was nice and open with good lighting over our tables. We started ordering a bunch of nigiri, soft shell crab, a couple sushi rolls, and some appetizers. The food came out relatively fast and I liked that we could continuously order more sushi through our phone. One thing I noticed was that they had a chef's choice sashimi option on the menu, but it was not available on the app, so you have to order that directly through the waiter. The waiters were attentive and we were able to flag them down when we had questions. Overall, I thought the fish was pretty fresh. Compared to some other newer all you can eat sushi spots, the rice portions were a bit larger, but I still enjoyed the meal. I just wish they had scallops on the menu. Overall, a good sushi spot in the San Jose area.

Super delicious! I didn't want AYCE and thankfully was able to order off the menu. I went during lunch and the staff was very attentive. I sat near a window and was able to look at the landscaping. I had a good experience.

We had a great AYCE experience here. It's $40 per person for the premium option. The fish quality is great and the food comes out quickly. They feature actually high quality premium appetizers like soft shelled crab, hamachi collar, carpaccio. The fish to rice ratio is very good for the nigiri. Their handrolls are also a standout. The service is very good. I was shocked to see the restaurant so empty because it's a great value and good quality. The restaurant is very clean and there's tons of seating. It's rare to find a quality ayce sushi in the bay. I think this is one of the top ones I've been to in the area and would recommend.

Went again with co-worker few days ago. Food is still great, fish are still very fresh, but service not so much. I don't mean the servers are rude, but we ordered salmon kama, being waited after few rounds of ordering, asked the same server we are still waiting for this item, and was told they will follow up. Waited long enough for us to go back so we called out another person and ask to cancel that order, promptly the server told us there is no salmon Kama today! Both my co-worker and I was surprised then a bit upset after, if you don't have that today, why don't you let us know at the moment of ordering or when we ask about it? We were not quite happy about how the first server how they handle this situation, did they even check with the kitchen or just respond to us they are making it?????

This is considered a relatively good value restaurant in the Bay Area, and the service is very friendly.

Okawa has become a regular spot for us at this point. Still such a good value imo. Even if you get their premium menu, we most certainly always pay less than if we were to go toan a la carte sushi spot. Service is great and the place is clean and spacious. Faves: spicy tuna handroll, hamachi kama and salmon kama.

This was our first time trying this place and totally delivered. We were greeted right away & got a table immediately. The food was delicious. If you get all you can eat you can scan and order without calling for your server. Very clean.

Here is my scoring card for this restaurant: 1) Location: ( 5 Point ) - Great location for customer to see and find. Great parking for street parking and back side with parking lot parking. 2) Decoration : (2 Point) - They still have the original decoration. Clean. 3) Price: ( 4 point)- The price is competitive but still a little bit pricey compare to other same stars and type food they serve 4) Quality and Taste : ( 3 point)- The quality is ok, food taste is good and portions are below average . ( must be inflation ) 5) Type of cuisine standard : ( 4 point) - The style of Japanese food they serve is pretty close to the way it was prepare in Japan. Not bad! But some dishes did have slightly modify to cater the customer's need Overall it's not bad and I thinks it's great to give it a try and let me know what you think. Go foodies Total max is 25 Score 18 Stars = 72% round up to 3 stars

Been here twice now. I think the first time, it was decent since it had just opened up and the fish seemed a bit fresher. Came here again recently and the quality is what you would think of a typical buffet. I think if you care more about quantity over quality, then you can definitely enjoy a meal here. We've only been here on a weeknight and the staff have been attentive in taking the orders, food coming out fairly quick and making sure your water glasses are refilled. There's plenty of tables and booths inside. We haven't had to wait when we walked in during a weeknight so I'm not quite sure how it would be during the weekends. Overall, if you're just looking for ayce sushi place to check out, it'll fill you up and worth checking out if you want quantity.

This place used to be "Ocean 9 Crab" not too long ago, and the restaurant space has changed businesses quite a few times prior. Now it's a sushi spot. My bf and I had dinner here on Sunday evening. We were seated right away just before 8:00pm, the place not too busy. We ordered a number of menu items a la carte including chicken gyoza, lion king roll, sashimi salad, spicy tuna handroll, hamachi kama, and several nigiri -- ebi (cooked prawn) unagi (eel), tai (red snapper), saba (mackerel). All of the dishes were tasty and fresh, but very small in size (so maybe the AYCE option is a better deal). Worth noting, the lion king roll was creamier than I'm used to, and the grilled yellowtail collar was on the salty side though I really enjoyed the flavor of this. Staff was friendly and helpful during our entire visit, and altogether we had a positive experience.

Was craving AYCE sushi and found this place online. My brother and I decided to try this place on weekday lunch ($28/person). We got the regular course and ordered a bunch of rolls. This tier does not include nigiri unfortunately :( My favorite was the double salmon roll. I really enjoyed all the rolls and found that the quality of the fish was pretty good, especially for the price. Parking was easy and service was very fast. Also, inside was clean, which I appreciated. Honestly, I had a good experience and can see myself coming back if I'm craving ayce. Better than Kenzo. Check it out!

It is in the general area with Cere Tea and Koi Palace. We arrived around 6PM and were seated immediately. We came for the seafood don and both got the UME with an addition of the ochazuke set. For $26 + 4.5 for the set, I think it's really worth the price and you get a good amount of fresh fish. Each bite felt like I was transported to Japan and eating a Kaisendon. Although we had to wait for a bit for the dashi soup to arrive , it was a delicious end to our meal. So comforting and hearty.

Same quality but Bigger portions and better dashi, for about the same price? Sign me up. My girlfriend and I skated the potato salad appetizer - a delicious DIY experience that let you control the texture of your potato salad (though I feel I overmixed), and two take bowls which were MASSIVE - easily could have shared. The seafood was fresh, the portions generous, and maybe it's because I have a more Americanized palate, but the mixed seafood dashi was richer and paired much better than a mild seafood chazuke. Plus it came with shiso leaves and tempura crunchies so it was really no comparison. Overall this was a delicious meal that left me extremely full, unlike other seafood bowls that leave you just a little too hungry. Given the tastiness of their dashi, I'll def be back to try their udon. Also, as an added bonus, my dogs love the little dashi fish topper on their food they sell separately at the front. Love! --- Sweet: amazing dashi broth, delicious seafood bowls. Rare instance of a dinner living up to the hype Bitter: wish they had mini versions of their more deluxe bowls!!

Lot of the natural wood color which seems to be the contemporary choice of decor these days. We got all our usual favorites.. Tori chintan ramen- 4.5/5- very light and refreshing broth. Not a great depth of flavor but whatever it had was sufficient for me. Chicken seemed to be roasted and was beautifully cooked without any funky taste or smell. This is easily the best version of chicken I had among all the chicken ramen bowls I had so far. Came with an egg which had a wonderful jammy center. Toppings were onions and a roasted slice of tomato. Seemed unconventional for me but delicious nonetheless. Chicken karaage-2.5/5- weakest chicken karaage I had in a Japanese restaurant, the batter was clumped in places and weakly hung onto the meat. The meat was suspiciously undercooked. Kids curry chicken plate-3.5/5- wonderful curry. This came with some sticky rice and the same chicken karaage. The rice and curry combo was delectable, the karaage weakened the dish. Niki spicy ramen- 4.5/5- my husband got this one and he enjoyed it. He commented it was one of the better ramen bowls he had in a while though not the very best. Great depth of flavor and perfect aldente noodles.

The portion size of their chicken katsu cutlet was enormous, and I loved how perfectly cooked it was. The batter was the perfect thickness and super crispy, without being greasy in the least. And the portion of rice and curry was perfect. I don't love pickles, but I like that they give you some pickles on the side to cut through the richness. And I also really appreciated the miso soup with just enough wakame and tofu. The batter was a bit sweet, but only in an after taste. The curry is not super spicy, and I do wonder if there is a way to make it more spicy by adding oil, but it still had a good depth of flavor that paired well with both the rice and the fried chicken. And I've tried a fair share of omakase places. The prix fixe 9 course meal was $150 per person, and I personally feel the quality of the ingredients and overall seasoning of the dishes did not meet that price point. It was already a rough start with the appetizers. I'm also a texture person so maybe someone else would like these but I was not a fan of the vegetable jelly nor the goopy seaweed salad. Had I known this prior to dining I don't think I would have wanted to go with the omakase menu. The chawanmushi was very underseasoned and missing salt completely. On the menu it says it has crab in it but the only crab meat you get with it comes in a tiny claw that you have no way of digging out The nigiri, which I was most excited for, fell VERY flat. The fish wasn't particularly fresh and I found a bone in my nigiri. (??) The rice was also really dry and mushy. I was genuinely so disappointed at this. Miso sea bass was overly sweet which didn't really work with how fatty the fish was. It was too much. Also found more bones in the miso sea bass but that's less gobsmacking than finding it in your nigiri. The dessert, matcha tiramisu, just tasted like straight up cream and not sweet at all. I don't have a sweet tooth by any means but this could've used sugar. I didn't feel very good eating this, the fattiness of the cream plus not having any flavor ruined it for me :( Overall, the main theme is just the lack of seasoning in any of the dishes plus ingredients not being fresh. I know it's Kaiseki style, but the dishes also seemed very uninspired and plating was kinda messy. When I looked closely, the plates weren't clean and there were marks.. Maybe I'm being nitpicky but at a price point like this, the details matter. Word of advice, if you live in South Bay and want omakase, just take your $ and drive an hour up to SF. My bf took me here to celebrate our anniversary and I feel awful about how bad it was.. +1 star for the friendly service.
