Met a friend for lunch at Happy Hour (1pm on a Saturday) and was impressed that we got sake, edamame, and three dishes for about 35 dollars. The plates were delicious, highlights were the Bay Bridge Roll and also Chicken Karaage, which was lightly fried and flavorful. Service was polite and attentive, and the interior is nice, with a separate seating area for waiting. It's kind of on the edge of the shopping center so you don't have to fight for parking, which is a bonus. read more

Stopped in randomly on a weeknight after tiring of our usual sushi spots. I was pleasantly surprised by the cute triangular layout of the dining room - it's intimately tucked behind a pizza place and a gym in a strip mall, and very much worth searching out! I ordered a couple of basic rolls, he ordered the Chicken Teriyaki with Tempura - both were incredibly good and I found myself eating more of his food than my own. On a future visit I think I'd go with a dinner entree over the rolls; it was a heartier dinner and they seem to really put their heart and soul particularly into the tempura. I loved the little boats they served tempura in for the parties next to us. I can definitely see this place becoming 5-star material once I find my go-to order. Might be the best sushi I've had since moving to Pleasant Hill! The place is by no means fancy or anything but the food is made quickly and was sooo good. We will definitely be back for our next casual sushi dinner night! Or order for delivery since we saw lots of food delivery apps coming in and out. For a Japanese cuisine fanatic, Okini is comfort. I was having a crappy Christmas weekend so I stopped by for lunch on the day after. Was pleasantly surprised with their happy hour menu from 12-3 and ordered off of there. Takoyaki- came out piping hot but sooo delicious when it cooled down. It was great to see they add a big piece of octopus to it. Bay Bridge Roll- I would order it off the regular menu. Godzilla Roll- I'm a sucker for it Side note- their iced tea is really good. Came here for an early Christmas Eve dinner with hubby and it did not disappoint. Service was excellent -- attentive and friendly but down-to-earth, some of the best we've experienced. We had: - dinner box with grilled mackerel. We order this dish often when we eat Japanese or Korean but so many places serve the mackerel all dried out. Not so here. The mackerel here was moist and cooked just right. DH said it was some of the best he's had and we've had it often. - Raider roll. Tempura spider crab in the center of what is essentially a California roll, topped with unagi (eel) and avocado. My husband orders a similar version of this roll almost every time we have Japanese and again, he said this was one of the best ones. Portion was very generous. -- Uni (sea urchin), amaebi (sweet shrimp), and hamachi (yellowtail) nigiri. These are among my favorite nigiri but I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with the ones served here. The uni was fresh but not among the best quality. It lacked the deep orange color, intense creaminess and stronger taste that I prefer. The amaebi was much smaller than is typically served, more like the size of a regular everyday shrimp, and also lacked that sweetness of flavor. The hamachi wasn't as buttery/fatty or flavorful as I'm used to. However, the price point of all 3 was lower than most other places charge, so I believe it was reflective of what they were serving. -- Hotate (scallop) and unagi (eel) nigiri. These were exactly as I hoped. Delicious and great price point. -- Bluefin toro nigiri. This was listed on their "specials" board. I haven't always appreciated this when I've ordered in in the past elsewhere but I really enjoyed how it was prepared here (with a little oil), and I felt the price was a bargain. There was also another fish listed as a special, which I ordered. I can't recall what it was (sea bream maybe?) but I enjoyed that as well. -- Tako wasabi. Again, listed as a special. I'd never heard of this before so of course had to try it. A very interesting dish consisting of chopped raw octopus marinated in salty brine that tasted of the sea and some light wasabi. It was a great combination of flavors, though definitely heavy on the saltiness. I really appreciated that they served something as uncommon as this. -- Tempura green tea ice cream with tempura fried bananas. I haven't had tempura ice cream in such a long time, so even though we were stuffed, we still had to order it. And it was so worth it. Both the ice cream and bananas really hit the spot and were the perfect way to end the meal. I honestly wasn't expecting such an enjoyable meal, but it really ticked off all the boxes. Great food, great selection of nigiri not often available in the area at really competitive prices, and great service. Okini Sushi will definitely become a staple in our Japanese food rounds. read more

Best sushi place in the area. Their fish is fresh and they have the best rolls. They even have baked rolls for my husband.

We ordered off the Happy Hour menu (12pm to 3pm Weekdays). We had the Takoyaki ($3), Tempura mix ($7), Aloha Roll ($12) and Bay Bridge Roll ($12). The prices on the happy hour menu are roughly $2 cheaper each than the regular menu. The takoyaki was just ok. I know pretty much all Japanese restaurants around here use frozen store bought takoyaki, so I'm not expecting freshly made. Got about 2 pieces of octopus in each ball. They don't seem to have takoyaki sauce though, just mayo. The outside was a little bit...mushy, like it was microwaved? Tempura mix was really good. They gave quite a bit (2 shrimps and 6-7 pieces of veggie). It was crispy and flaky, shrimp was good and the best were the broccoli and onion. Aloha Roll- my girlfriend ordered this, it was imitation crab meat inside, with minced salmon on the outside. She liked it. I personally thought the crab meat was a little...fishy? Just slightly though. Bay Bridge Roll- this was tempura shrimp inside with cucumber, and tuna/avocado on the outside. I thought the roll was really good, everything tasted fresh. Service was great. Very attentive and cheerful, wasn't waiting long. We went at about noon on Monday, only 2-3 other tables. Huge parking lot. read more

This review is during the Covid-19 outbreak: Upon arrival, there was a barricade of tables near the front of the restaurant so that no one would go inside. All of the workers were wearing masks and only one person was allowed to go up to the "pay table" at a time. It was great to see they were taking extra precautions during this time. I've been here before and the food is pretty good. I got the dragon roll which was fresh and the chicken karaage. The chicken karaage was a little on the moist side, but I think only because it was in a takeout box. It was fresh, but having it as takeout took off some of the crunch I would've usually liked. Okini has moved to a new location! They are in the same complex as DeVinos and Kinders in Pleasant Hill now. We've done take out 4 times now and everything has been terrific. Still need to go in and dine at the restaurant but the food has been really good so far. Everyone seems super nice and accommodating. They have a bar but it's not set up which is unfortunate because they put in a really beautiful live edge wood bar top and it would be a super fun place to sit and eat.
