Came here 01/13/2023 to see River Boyz and they sure did not disappoint. If you have never seen this band. I highly recommend if you love old school rock! We got here around 630p. Since the parking lot is small they offered Valet parking that night, which I recommend as parking is very limited when they have this available. Please be aware of your surroundings if you are not utilizing valet as you could get towed. Marcos Pizza and Duck Donuts is next door and you cannot park there. We were a party of 6 and most of the tables to the left were reserved, which we did not know we could do...we made a note to do that next time. We were seated at a booth near the stage. The booths sit 4 comfortably but definitely not 6 but we made it work for a bit basically to eat. It took a while for waitress to come, we had to ask the FOH to get someone for us. Food: OBT nachos, Buffalo Chicken wrap Drink: Aperol Spritz The nachos were good but small, best to share with 2-3 people but not more. My Buffalo chicken wrap was ok, I did not get the ranch that was suppose to come and tried to get some but our waitress was super busy, not gonna fault her since everyone is short on help. I also got the Aperol Spritz drink and received this in a 16oz clear plastic cup and was really good, so ordered another and this time it came in a much smaller cup and that bummed me out that this was not consistent, so I did not order another because of that. This place is great for live music. Will have to try something else next time.

This is the best Beyond Burger in town! Get the Chili sauce on the cooked just right. Lyndsey at the bar, great service.

We've come here a few times but for some reason, it wasn't on our radar lately. I have no idea why?!?!?! This place is very cool and totally fits the vibe we love to hang at. From the outside, you would never expect what you are walking in to. The place is huge with a nice open concept, plenty of seating, a massive bar and very relaxed ambient lights. I am one that likes the lighting less aggressive on the eyes and this place is perfect with that. It is cool for a relaxing evening, to watch sports games, to hang with friends, to enjoy playing pool or listen to live music. It has a lot going on once you actually walk inside. The food is fantastic. Never had anything bad here! They take pride in having fresh, local products and you can tell the difference when you eat it. The craft beer selection is also on point with a great Happy Hour (4-7) leaving enough time for those that get out a little later. They have great daily deals that can satisfy the needs without breaking the bank. My only complaint would be the parking situation. If you have a car that makes you conscious of "door dings", this place could make your skin crawl a little. I see they made an attempt to add more but to me, it's a bit tight as I find myself searching for the most open spot I can find and sometimes that's around the building. However, I just let my wife drive and all is well. Not enough to keep us away and definitely needs to be put back on our list. Overall, this is a great hidden gem that you would never expect from the street offering great deals, food and beverage quality, and a relaxing atmosphere! Definitely stop by and see what you think.

The Old Beach Tavern is located along Virginia Beach Blvd. near Kings Grant Rd. If heading west on Virginia Beach Blvd., it will be on the right side of the road. The parking here is a bit interesting. It's all angled parking, so it makes for an interesting time coming in or going out. My visit here was on January 6, 2019. After parking, we made our way inside. We were immediately greeted and seated, but then requested to be moved once the server Lexis came over due to the way the sun was coming in at that table. In the end, we were seated near the pool tables, where some were playing when we got seated, but about 10 minutes later they were done. There was a bit of noise going on as well with the football games going on at the bar area. She asked us if this was our first time here, which it was, and also asked what we would want to drink. I ended up just going with water, as I didn't really want anything else. She gave us some time to look over the menu and decide. After a little while, she came back over and we were ready to order. I ended up going with the Southwest Burger with extra onions and fries as the side. The Southwest Burger has pepper jack cheese, pico de gallo, sliced avocados, and chipotle aioli. My mom went with the Tavern Burger. After about 8 to 10 minutes, the burgers were ready and arrived at the table. The burger looked really good and the taste was good as well. I liked the southwest version of a burger. The burger was cooked the way it should be and was hot as well. My mom liked the Tavern Burger, but said it was just okay, but was cooked the way it should have been. Overall, this wasn't a bad place to get a burger. I think part of it was that we almost felt a bit out of place since we hadn't been there before. I know we were there on the off season, but it did seem to be somewhat of a dive as well. The food and service were good. I would come back again in the future, but maybe not when football games are on due to the noise (yelling at the televisions, etc.).

    Date night!

We got there a little earlier in the evening, arriving around 5:30PM on a Tuesday night and the place was packed! We were still able to score a seat along the windows overlooking the creek. This entire place was so busy and there was so many staff too - Hard to believe from looking at the small ranch of a house that the restaurant is housed in. Lots of families here too. Their menu is quite nice with many options. We started with their blackened tuna bites, which came out as a big blackened tuna steak that had slices in it, but was still "assembled" on the plate. The wasabi dipping sauce it came with was outstanding and so very spicy! The tuna itself didn't look very appealing at all, but WOW, the flavor was great! And when dipped into the wasabi sauce, the combo of both was so good! Out entrées were the imperial mahi - which I asked for them to blacken my mahi. This dish is basically a mahi filet with a crab cake on top and then the entire thing is smothered in the she crab soup - it was so very flavorful! The she crab soup was really good by itself, but the crab cake mixed with it tasted great! The blackened mahi was really tasty too. I tried their broccoli as a side and had very low expectations for it, but WOW, that broccoli was outstanding! So fresh and flavorful! Don't like the looks of the place fool you, the service is on point and the food is amazing! This place is doing it right!!

Our first table ended up being under a spotlight that was directly in our line of sight (it looked like it was meant for the specials board), so we asked to move. Staff was accommodating and got us to a better table quickly. The space itself is really nice. It was clean, rustically decorated, and the live plants in liquor bottles on the tables are a nice touch. Our server was friendly from the start and took drink orders right away. My daughter and I had sodas, and my husband ordered the Southern Charm Old Fashioned off the specials menu, which he enjoyed. The menu is on the smaller side, which we actually like. One unique detail was the option to "buy a round for the kitchen," which we thought was a really nice touch and decided to add it when we ordered our appetizer. We started with the fried deviled eggs after a friend recommended them. They were creative with three styles (classic with pickle, togarashi ginger, and crispy prosciutto), but overall a bit on the dry side and not as flavorful as we expected. We asked for Dijon, but they don't have it. Our server suggested and brought out the Baja dipping sauce instead, which did pair well and kind of improved them. My husband had the fish and chips and really enjoyed it. He said the fish was flaky and well cooked. I ordered the Union grilled cheese, which unfortunately seemed like it had been sitting a bit before being served, as the bottom was soggy. It was just okay overall and not particularly memorable for the price. The sweet potato fries on the side were the clear standout. They were crispy, the perfect balance of sweet and salty and honestly the best part of the dish. Our daughter had the kid's smashburger. It was exactly that. Service throughout the meal was good. She was friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and there when needed. The main disappointment came at the end. When our meals were served, the server actually offered sauces at the table (ketchup, mayo, ranch, etc.), and specifically suggested items like the baja sauce for the eggs and ranch to us. Because of that, we were surprised to see several charges for the sauces on the bill, especially since they were offered and recommended at the table with no mention of any additional cost. We were also charged a credit card fee, with no signage anywhere (entrance, hostess stand, or menu) indicating that paying with a card would include an extra charge. It just left an unnecessary sour note on an otherwise solid, casual meal. Nothing was bad, and nothing really stood out as exceptional, but the lack of transparency around those final charges really impacted the overall experience for us.

They are just south of where Holland Rd. merges into Independence Blvd. My most recent visit here was on April 23, 2026. From the outside of the business, it does stand out a bit with the large name above the entrance. You can definitely see it if you look from Holland Rd. I had seen it too when traveling down that road, but I finally came in for the first time on March 10, 2026 after leaving the Voter Registrar's Office not too far from there. Upon entering, it wasn't too busy yet, but it was a little before 4 pm, so it was still early for the evening dinner rush. The inside of the place definitely has the bar scene vibe with the bar area and televisions showing sports there, with closed captioning on. One of the bartenders said we could find a spot to be seated. My mom and I went to one of the booths available. It was just seconds later that our server came over, welcomed us here, bringing menus over, and introduced herself. The first question is always asking about what to drink. I continue to go with my usual, which is water with lemons, while my mom got Coke. After having some time to look over the menu, when we got our drinks, my mom and I were both ready to order. I decided to go with the Sloppy Joe Samich with Onion Rings as the side item, but subbing Pepper Jack Cheese instead of American Cheese. My mom decided to do an appetizer as the main course, which was the Loaded Nachos Half Size Portion. A little less than 10 minutes later, our food orders came to the table, and they looked really good, and when we went to try it out, they were definitely hot too. The Sloppy Joe Samich ended up being really good and hit the spot for me. The onion rings were good too, and were a bit of an indulgence for me. My mom really liked the Loaded Nachos and that had good flavor to it as well. Our server also told us about various specials they have through the week, so this would warrant future visits for us too. The next few visits would be on Thursdays, as they have a $7 Burger Night Special beginning at 5 pm. For those next visits (including the most recent one, except for the April 6 visit), I would end up getting the Bacon Cheeseburger With Fries (additional cost to change the side item for specials). My mom also did a few types of burgers on these visits, one being the Cowboy Burger. Every time, the burgers came out as expected and hot. The fries were really good too, as I usually do pepper on them instead of salt. There was one additional visit on April 6th, which was a Monday. We came in that day for the Fried Shrimp Basket Special. That one comes with Fried Shrimp and Fries, and is available all day. The shrimp were really good and filling too. Overall, the food, service, atmosphere, and specials have been great here. I really feel like they are a hidden gem. When it comes to sodas, they did carry Coke products, but as of the middle of April 2026, they are now serving Pepsi products. I want to note that there is a 3% order processing fee, likely for anyone paying by a card instead of cash. Even when I have been there at busier times, parking was never an issue. It feels like a family atmosphere too. On the most recent visit, they even stated that they notice us as regulars here now. If you're looking for a different place that serves more than just burgers, this place is worth checking out, as I have not seen a place around yet that has the Sloppy Joe type samich.

The both of us, well three of us if you count the dog, enjoyed our meals. I went with the doggy-style version of the Chicken n Waffles. This take on the classic dish included: a bacon-infused waffle, fried chicken thigh, sausage gravy, candied bacon, and bourbon maple syrup. Overall, I enjoyed the dish with the small exceptions that the batter made the waffle really heavy for my personal tastes. I'm more of a fan of light, fluffy waffles. Unfortunately, I did not know this at the time, but the kitchen puts the syrup on the waffle for you. Personally, I like to add my own syrup because I do not like too much syrup on my waffles (and pancakes). However, those two minor issues did not take away from the dish. Also, the other aspects of the dish made up for those minor inconveniences. My partner ordered the Pongo, which was served with a fried chicken thigh, cheddar biscuit, scrambled egg, sausage gravy, house potatoes. If you are a fan of Bloody Marys, the restaurant has a selection of 4 or 5 interesting Bloody Marys. I went with the Porky's Revenge, which had bacon-infused vodka, Zing Zang Bloody Mary mix and a bacon-dusted rim. Both of us were quite pleased with our selections. Also, come here hungry because the serving sizes are quite large. Because of the large serving sizes, I thought the prices were relatively fair compared to other places the area. Actually, I would change "fair" to "generous". Both of our dishes were about 17 bucks with the 4ish dollar 'doggy style' add on. Generally speaking, our waitress was really on the ball. Although we were sitting outside, she frequently checked in us and was very professional while being funny. Hopefully, we can make another stop here during our next Va. Beach vacation adventure.

What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV

It was a beautiful evening. Our server was Lauryn, and she was great. She was nice and attentive but not worrisome. We had the Wisconsin Cheese Curds along with the house made Sangria. As an entree, I had the whiskey burger with truffle fries. I really liked the cheese curds; they're a lot flavorful than traditional mozzarella sticks. The house made sangria was really good too! We had to stop ourselves from just sucking it down. The burger is where I had the issue. It was a little on the dry side.... Too well done despite asking for medium. It also wasn't seasoned well. The only flavor rally came from the bbq sauce and onion straws. The truffle fries were good though. The menu said they won't best burger of Virginia Beach, and that was made me get a burger. Not the best burger I've ever had. Next time, I will try the pizza and probably go to the Shore drive location since that is closer to my house. Again, the vibe, service, and scenery was worth the drive.. the food not so much.
