We were in the mood for something different so we headed over to Cuban Cafe for dinner. Having been here before, we knew the portions were quite large. Two of us couldn't decide between the Royal Rice and the Cuban, so why not share? The Cuban is a pretty decent sized sandwich with ham, pork, cheese, pickles, and mustard. The Deluxe version adds lettuce and tomatoes. The cuban bread was fresh and crispy. The Royal Rice was humongous! It was covered with a layer of cheese and inside was moist delicious rice with chicken and veggies. It was a little hard to scoop out with the cheese, but wow, what a yummy dish. The breaded steak sandwich (Bistec Empanizado) was OK. It was a thin slice of steak breaded with some toppings. It wasn't knock your socks off good, but it did the job. I got the fries instead of the plantains as I'm just not a fan of those things. I recommend getting their garlic sauce for dipping fries, sandwiches, fingers, etc. into. That stuff is off the hook good. On previous visits, we got the tripletta sandwich, chori pan sandwich, and one of the breaded chicken platters which was also quite large. It's a good choice for a decent meal at a different price. Nothing is overly seasoned or spicy (at least from what we ordered), but it's good and voluminous. read more

I ordered a media noche sandwhich with a papa rellena, a beef empanada, two batidos (milkshakes) 1 Mamey & 1 Guayaba & a flan de queso (cheese flan) I literally left nothing but my fries.....all was DELICIOUSLY AMAZING! My batido de mamey was perfect and I do like that they did not send the drinks with straws and they were put in a cup holder that was tied in a bag with my food. That is Perfect! Found this spot after a wingspot visit. It has a bakery on the side as well. Both times i've been it's been pretty empty, not busy at all and you're sat quickly. The food was okay, the rice was missing mayonnaise but it was a huge plate for $15. You will definitely have leftovers. The pork sandwich wasn't good. The pork on the side was actually surprising better than the pork sandwich. It was much more fresh than the pork used in the sandwich. The hamburger was good! Our first visit for my partner's birthday lunch and we definitely recommend this spot. It has a nice casual interior atmosphere and a cute patio with very comfortable furniture. The service is very friendly and helpful. We started with some of the best mojitos I have ever had, and I've had quite a few in Miami before. Very light and refreshing with the perfect amount of sweetness from the sugar cane. It was garnished beautifully with lime and mint. I ordered the Ropa Vieja which was very flavorful with good chunks of the shredded beef. The beans were well seasoned with little chunks of onion which is my favorite, as well the maduros were perfectly fried. My partner had their Cuban Special sandwich which came with a side of fries. He said he really loved the ham and pickles together and it was good ratio of meat to bread. His brother ordered Tres Leches for desert and it was so delicious! I ordered this Togo and was greeted immediately. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was extremely clean. There's tons of fruit juices and pastries available that look very yummy! I ordered the chicken breast meal with white rice and plantains. The sides are amazing and remind me of my favorite Cuban restaurant from home! I have a love/hate relationship with this place. For instance, why sell dry and hardened rice at night? Can't you make rice in the afternoon? My husband works nearby and has been raving about this place for quite sometime. Luckily, my family was able to make it here for lunch on Sunday. I was impressed at how large it was! As you enter, you see a full spread of items you can order to go. To the right, there's another connected area with desserts and pastries. Seating is spread throughout the large dining room. One of my kids ordered the Salmon a la Plancha with Arroz con Gandules and sweet plantain. The fish was freshly grilled and had so much flavor. He devoured it! The rice was not dry and cooked to perfection. If you love salmon, try this for sure. The hubby ordered the Filetillo de Pollo Al Ajillo...pretty much little chicken pieces marinated and cooked in a delicious garlic sauce. This was SUPER tasty. He had yellow rice and sweet plantains to accompany his meal. AMAZING. I shared the Ropa Vieja with my littlest one. I think he could have killed off a plate himself. It is just east of Alafaya Trail and while the strip mall is relatively clean and well maintained, it is also rather nondescript. I guess the term "nondescript" could also describe the food here. It just is, I guess the best way to describe it would be to say it is Cuban food by the book and is not just a great representation of how wonderful Cuban food can be. Old Cuban Cafe's mediocrity is even more apparent as there are several Cuban and Latin food places that truly create some wonderful food and just make the mediocrity of the food at the Old Cuban Cafe. I had the Cuban sandwich and it was dry, the pork overcooked, not enough mustard and the Cuban sandwich overall was completely under seasoned. Cuban food should infuse your soul with colorful joy, it should bring rhythm to your heart. Old Cuban Cafe does none of that. The breakfast here is the best bang for your buck. All of the food comes with coffee and its only about $5. If you've had a Cuban sandwich before, you know its about the perfect little crisp when you bite into it and the soft sweetness of the bread on your tongue that melts in your mouth that makes it so additive! Forget the toast with my eggs and bacon! That cuban bread is unforgettable! I was leaving Orlando and wanted a quick bite and I honestly loved that I stayed to eat here. I've had delicious Cuban food from places like black bean deli and Cubans on the Run and was excited to return but it's hard not to compare this to other places because of our standards for authentic Cuban food. My husband had rice, beans and tostones and really enjoyed it. I opted for the Media Noche and unfortunately, the bread was dry and there was about 7 slices of ham piled up and kept sliding out. I wasn't impressed by the taste of the meats either and wouldn't recommend a sandwich here. the place was really nice from decor to how the food and bakery items are shown to you already. the servers were nice though i do wish they and the restaurant menus would properly include items in their description. i got congris which was great but came with pork. my friend who is vegetarian (for personal and religious reasons) also got congris and ate pork not knowing what it was. it was only until i ate it and recognized it that i warned her. it was pretty upsetting and could be dangerous in other situations like if it came to allergies. besides that, the food was really good and serving sizes were huge. we did have a really nice time with the group but please definitely update the menu and make sure to warn customers on what their orders contain. read more

This is a really cool place for Cuban food. It's a lot cheaper if you order the food in a to-go box (you can still eat on the bakery side) rather than sit down with service. But either way, the food is good. I usually get the lechon with sides. They have really great pastries that are made the day-of and they sell 3-for-2. This place serves as a restaurant, bakery and on the fourth Saturday of each month, a dancing party spot for the old school Cuban couples, groups, and friends. Loved the atmosphere and the food. Geez, which I could have brought more home, but knew that it would go bad before I got to eat it all! The location is inside a plaza mall and parking can get full easily. Casual attire and outside table service is available. Stop by for take-out they have a wonderful selection of to-go options ready for you. There are some daily specials but mostly they stick to the 4-page menu. Plenty of servers and they seem to all be in a hurry. No worries, the staff and the menu are bilingual so all are welcomed as long as they can read/speak English or Spanish! Can't wait to visit the area again, just to go back to this restaurant. We have loved this place for years. Visited recently for brunch with family and was terribly disappointed. The music, although appreciated and added a nice touch was way too loud and we couldn't carry on a conversation. Dump the many TVs as this is a cuban restaurant - not a sports bar. Take a cue from La Carreta or Versailles in Miami. The food was excellent as always and the portions plentiful. When we received our bill and discovered our regular iced tea was $5.99 each. I got the "we only have cuban toast, no whole wheat", I am diabetic. so when she told me the plate included potato i asked to exchange it for something else and our waitress told me they will not do that because the potatoes were free, a then i said...if i pay for the plate and the potatoes are included, they are not free and so she said again...no, the potatoes are free!, so i got my poor and sad breakfast with hard to shew potatoes, i asked for a very light latte i got a super dark milk and after all they wouldn't print a receipt,.. they just said they have paper, they have to send it to you by email or by text...super cheap, sad...after all was sad but expensive, $6 for the milk and $10 for the breakfast, the cuban toast was french bread...they don't know what a cuban toast is...pathetic!! I will never recommend the restaurant and I will send as many negative reviews as i can, anybody can open that kind of restaurant. read more

Do not eat here. I came in with a large group to celebrate a birthday and regret deciding to bring all my guests to this establishment. Bland, stale food and even worse service. Took an hour to receive our food with no one in the restaurant. Our waiter not only put in the wrong order for one of my guests and tried to convince us it was our fault, but also forgot to put in my 5 year old's order. We had to cancel two orders because of how terrible the service was. The staff must've not known I speak Spanish because I also overheard them talking about our table which is very unprofessional. Don't spend your money on flavorless food with staff that have no problem talking about you behind your back. It's a shame after all these mistakes no one came to apologize or even try to rectify the situation. No comas aquí. Since hearing about the good food at this place, my husband and I decided to have a date night. This place is located on a busy strip of E. Colonial, shared with other business and on this night the parking lot was packed, we had to go around but on the way back we found one right in the front. The place is big, really big, it was surprising. By the door there is a host stand, behind that is a huge buffet style set up, there are huge tables and booths and on this night there were filled with people, families and couples. We were seated in a booth table. It took a few minutes before our server approached us, when he did he was courteous and took our drink & app orders, water and two chicken/two beef empanadas.
