The restaurant itself is a bit eclectic. It could definitely use some sprucing up and it could use some focus. Is this a bar? Is this a school cafeteria? Is this a table at Abuela's house? Is this a live music venue? It's a bit of all of those things and could use some fixing up and direction. Great authentic Cuban food! The portions were generous, and everything was packed with flavor. The pork shoulder was tender and perfectly seasoned, and the beans were just as delicious and well-prepared. It's a spacious location. Parking was easy. I was seated right away. Waitress was very polite and attentive. I was seated on a the booth. You can eat in or order to go from the food bar ready to go. The sangria was good. I ordered the Churrasco, medium. The food came out pretty fast and cooked as ordered. The portion was generous, enough to have left overs for dinner. It was after my food came out that I noticed they have a fly issue on the booths closer to the restrooms. I hope that's addressed soon. Come here occasionally, never had an issue until recently. After our meal we got a red velvet cream cookie dessert, and after three bites or so we saw A GROWING NET OF MOLD INSIDE. This cookie must have been sitting in the counter for at least three weeks and who knows how much longer for this to have formed. It was an actual mesh of mold in the entire hollow of the cookie. We veered here to get a quick bite of food. Signs for special of the day and food advertised prices seemed reasonable. There's a cafeteria style of pre-made food in the front of the restaurant. I think they knew we weren't into actually dining in and the one server seemed busy so she offered for us to take it in to go containers and pick a table on the other end of the restaurant where their cafe was, if we wanted. I would think it's for only the pre-made food from the front though. I chose the arroz con gandules, ropa vieja, and yuca on the side. The portions are enough for two people. I shared it with my son and still came out full and had left over ropa vieja and yuca thats how much they serve. I felt the food could have used a tad less salt but this is me and my preference. The rice was good but it did feel heavy. I will say the Yuca and mojo they topped on it was yummy. When it comes to latin food though I am a big stickler. First time trying this restaurant I ordered via phone from the menu online. The menu and pricing online differs from the menu in person. When I came to pick up, I was greeted immediately from the restaurant side. Love that. She told me pickup orders are in the bakery area. Cool. I walk over and the clerk is checking out an order. After she is done, I am apparently invisible. Another lady behind the counter keeps looking back at me, no verbal acknowledgment but she is handling orders. A guy comes in after me and the clerk sees him, picks up his order checks out and leaves. I walk up closer to the clerk. I'm still invisible to the clerk. She takes a phone call. I'm about to roast this clerk out & the other lady behind the counter finally asks me how she can help me. Whatever I ordered from the online Yelp menu didn't translate to the order they put in. When we attempted to sit down to eat we were informed we had to sit on the right side of establishment and given plastic utensils. There is NO A/C on the right side of the establishment. There is in fact A/C on the left restaurant side. Food was mediocre. Not worth $45. for two dinner portions. There is clear and visible algae and mold on the corners of the medal for trays in the buffet. Didn't see it until after we paid. I've been here once before but forgot how good the food is :0 I'm pretty sure I got the roasted pork shoulder and my bf got the shredded beef with onions, and both were so amazing ! My pork was super tender and perfectly seasoned so the pork flavor was the center of the dish. The plantains were also a good texture and not too sweet. And you can't go wrong with black beans and rice. As for the beef, I actually preferred this since I enjoyed the onion and beef flavor mixed and it was a little less oily than mine which is no biggie since that's how it's meant to be I think The beef was dry but moist if that makes sense? I love so many things about this Cafe. The first thing I can say is they greet you so courteously with such joy. Then they have a live band in there which gets you in the mood. You can either dine inside or outside on the patio. They also have Togo dinners as well. Now let's go to the entrees because it was so much to choose from. They had over 25 items to choose from to eat and then they have a whole dessert department. The prices are pretty reasonable for the great taste of food. They located in a plaza with many other places to browse on and a bank to get money to pay for such a delicious meal. They maintained fresh food constantly as I was observing the area. However, the last few times I attended, yesterday being the last, the food has been lukewarm/cold, rice hard, tostones not crispy and not fresh. We were the only people in the dining area. The restaurant was completely empty. The prices were double then what they were before. A fried fish is now $45. The food is too expensive what what it is and the quality is no longer there. In addition, we sat in the dining area but were given food from the lunchenera buffet-style that had been sitting there. I've come here several times before and never had an issue. Now, I asked for extra pork because I was not getting a side and they want to overfill the plate with starches and not enough protein. She stated I would have to pay $10 extra for more protein. This is ridiculous and exactly why I will not return. Plus my son only eats white rice, so they were refusing to give me a small side container like I've had before. Poor customer service, especially if I'm paying for it. Just got charged $17 for a small dinner. I will go to MI Bandera on Oakridge next time. Starch is in 3/4 of the plate and protein is in 1/4 of the plate. I ordered old Cuban Cafe based on reviews wanting something different. I opted for the original Cuban sandwich, empanadas, the chocolate tres leches, and the flan. Excited to try everything I was completely taken aback to see the desserts I was provided were not fresh, and are produced a week in advabcs. I do not order food expecting that it isn't made the day of. The empanadas were completely dry and without flavor, they do not appear to be fresh and were stale as if they had been sitting under a heat lamp all day. These a far cry from anything I've experienced at other Cuban spots in Orlando. I didn't try the desserts as they were not made fresh, the onky edible item was the cuban sandwich which was dry and over cooked. I Would not order take out again. You may get a different experience eating inside, but the whole experience left a lot to be desired and I Def would not recommend. Ordered the vaca frita and a coffee. The coffee was perfect temperature and perfectly sweetened. The vaca frita platter came with Maduras and rice and beans. Very large portion of rice, beans had a hint of sweetness. Vaca frita was a bit disappointing. The consistency was more like ropa vieja or mojo pork. We were in the mood for something different so we headed over to Cuban Cafe for dinner. Having been here before, we knew the portions were quite large. Two of us couldn't decide between the Royal Rice and the Cuban, so why not share? The Cuban is a pretty decent sized sandwich with ham, pork, cheese, pickles, and mustard. The Deluxe version adds lettuce and tomatoes. The cuban bread was fresh and crispy. The Royal Rice was humongous! It was covered with a layer of cheese and inside was moist delicious rice with chicken and veggies. It was a little hard to scoop out with the cheese, but wow, what a yummy dish. The breaded steak sandwich (Bistec Empanizado) was OK. It was a thin slice of steak breaded with some toppings. It wasn't knock your socks off good, but it did the job. I got the fries instead of the plantains as I'm just not a fan of those things. I recommend getting their garlic sauce for dipping fries, sandwiches, fingers, etc. into. That stuff is off the hook good. On previous visits, we got the tripletta sandwich, chori pan sandwich, and one of the breaded chicken platters which was also quite large. It's a good choice for a decent meal at a different price. Nothing is overly seasoned or spicy (at least from what we ordered), but it's good and voluminous. read more
