If you think Los Authenticos Cuban is authentic....please move on to the Old Cuban Cafe! Our waiter just came to the states from Cuba 2 months ago!! They have many authentic dishes and the food is outstanding. I highly recommend the Media noche. My friend got the vacca fritta, and he said that was also outstanding. The portions are so big that you have to take some home. I spent less than $10 and was stuffed! Of course with that said, the service did need to improve a bit. The place is not that great and it is in a location that is not that great either. The service was a bit slow and the waitress didn't even speak any english. Despite some of the negative reviews, my boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try for breakfast and we're both glad we did. One thing I've learned from having a customer service background is that you have to take some negative reviews with a grain of salt. We both had the Cuban Omlet breakfast which comes with fries, cuban toast with butter, and cafe con leche. We also ordered an appetizer sampler that came with Empanadas, croquettes, yucca fries, a potato ball and a tamale with some dipping sauces. Food was very good, plentiful and inexpensive and service was quick and friendly. We were both stuffed and our entire bill was only $22 (before tip) and that includes an extra (medium) cafe con leche I ordered to go. Pretty good deal if you ask me! The restaurant itself is small, but cute. It's super loud in there like a cafeteria, but personally, I liked the ambiance. It made me feel like I was in an authentic cuban cafe. I'm a little surprised by some of the reviews that mention bad service to non-Cuban's or non-Hispanics. My boyfriend and I are both white, and while I do understand some Spanish, I never gave any indication of such and we were treated no differently because of this. I think bad service can happen anywhere. Sometimes you just have a bad server, or sometimes a server is just having a bad day, or sometimes the cook is having an off day. That doesn't make it okay, but it happens, even at the best of restaurants. So I have to wonder if some of those comments are the result of someone of non-hispanic descent walking into a restaurant filled with 99% Hispanic patrons and feeling a little insecure as a result and just assuming their bad service is due to their race. I could be wrong, and I realize that. But all I know is that we didn't have that experience as everyone was very friendly and attentive, and we were definitely the only white, non-Hispanic people there at the time. Located in a nondescript plaza right across Sam's along Goldenrod side, this place is not visually inviting. However, upon entering Old Cuban Cafe I was pleasantly surprised by its ambience, decor and the smell of coffee. I've been coming here 2-3x a week at 8am for Cafe Con Leche and sometimes breakfast. I've always been happy with their Cuban Omelette or a Beef Empanada. Both of which are very tasty. There are mornings I decide to have a Quesito or two which has always been freshly made. The staff are friendly and the service acceptable. Perhaps being bilingual gives you and edge but I've never had the feeling I need to be. read more

The quality of their meals is very very poor but their sandwiches are awesome and the desserts are great. The personnel is outstanding, joyful and helpful. If you are not Cuban avoid going to this place they make it very known that they refuse to serve anyone other than Cubans. There is a sign on the wall and the service that you get when you do not speak Spanish is very rude. The only person that is there that treats all people the same is the owner the mother ,she's a sweetheart but I will not go back there because the rest of the staff treated me as if I was a second class citizen. Seeing as I was born and raised in Hialeah, it's safe to say my standard for Cuban food is pretty high. Someone mentioned this place a couple months ago but I finally had a chance to head in there today. Let me start by saying that I hold croquettas to a high standard and can easy call BS on one that came out of a Goya box. I ordered 3 and the wait time took a bit mainly because they are made fresh to order. As soon as I got them, it was crispy outside, perfect inside. Seriously, one of the best croquettas I've had in Central Florida. It reminds me of Molina's restaurant in Miami. I ordered the cafe con leche which was delicious, incredibly hot, and perfect in sweetness. I took a pastelito de guayaba to go and even after a couple of hours it was delicious. I came back today for more croquettas, cause I'm a sucker. The people reminded me of home because it was a bunch of Cuban, old guys commenting on Cuban policies.
