I found the Old Mill Tavern after hiking in the area. Great service, even on a busy Friday night! The food was very good, the prices fair. Solid..Solid..Solid. Lots of cold beer, great bar/pub food...they did a great job fixing up the back. New owners are often there which is great and always say hi and thanks. The only nit would be when they are busy they need 2 bartenders... oh yeah.. Went here randomly to celebrate our anniversary since our original plans fell through. I had the salmon and broccoli and mashed potatoes. No frills with the broccoli, just steamed but I know other places season it. The mashed potatoes were okay but I've had better like the one from Cheesecake Factory. The salmon wasn't terrible but I felt it could've been better. The top was very flakey and crisp but the inside tasted a little on the drier side. My meal was "okay". Didn't wow me but it could've been better. The fact that I'm giving it a three star is because in the middle of our meal, we were told to get up from our seat to move over since where we were originally sitting, the live band needed that area to set up. I've been to restaurants that have live bands and they make sure to not seat people near the band area after a certain point. We were seated maybe an hour before the band arrived so the person who showed us to our seats should've have sat us elsewhere. We were given free dessert because of the seating so I ordered their apple fritter. Man.... that was a huge disappointment. I'm literally thinking of something spongey donut/cake like the fritters from Wawa or Dunkin' Donuts. Nope. It's like deep fried fritter filling and it looks like chicken nuggets. So it was crunchy and gross and the menu said it's paired with ice cream but I was a little sad to see that it was vanilla soft serve. That seemed a little lazy since restaurants usually just do a scoop from whatever tub they purchase. The atmosphere is cozy and nice. The servers are polite and friendly but my meal didn't really wow me enough to make this a usual spot to visit and the restaurant itself is very tiny like the size of a one bedroom apartment. I'll maybe go back to try a burger since I've yet to have a bad burger from anywhere I've been to but I'm not rushing to pay another visit anytime soon. read more

I've passed this restaurant every day for the past four years, heading to work and always wanted to try it. I'm so glad that we did. We pulled in the parking lot was full but there was plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Every single person we came in contact with was happy and pleasant. The menu selection was wonderful as well as the specials. Both our meals were amazing and so good we talked out them today. The salads are so large it's like a meal in itself. And did I mention the drinks? My Captain and Coke was served in a tumbler and a very generous pour. I would go back any day! Definitely a great place to eat. read more

I went here previously in the fall, and had no complaints. Today was my second time ever going and the waitresses took our order and never came to our table again. She had someone else bring us our food and never came back to see if we liked everything or needed refills. My brother had asked for ketchup and she never brought it. Once we finished eating we say there for probably around 40 mins just waiting to even get the check or anything. Finally, who I think was a manager, a lady came up and asked if we were done. I told her we had been waiting a long time and she apologized and gave us our check. It wasn't crazy busy, it was somewhat busy, but she checked in on every table except ours. read more

One star is for the waitress. She was incredibly cold and condescending from the moment she came to our table. What was supposed to be an enjoyable night out celebrating our daughter's birthday, quickly became an unpleasant experience that resulted in tears and confrontation. The waitress, who interestingly also happens to be a nurse, seemed to not want to be bothered in making sure that the meal for our daughter, who has severe food allergies, was safe to eat. Instead, she spoke to us as if we did not understand how things were cooked, would not let us speak to the chef and told us the chef wouldn't talk to us?!? All we were looking for was some assurance there would not be any cross-contamination, but instead she left my daughter uncomfortable and not wanting to eat her birthday meal! The only saving grace to the night was the manager, who did remedy the situation and assured us the food was safe, and had the kitchen remake the dinner for our daughter, which in the end she did eat. Never in 14 years of dealing with allergies and eating in various restaurants throughout the US have we experienced this treatment from a waitstaff! Very disappointing! read more

Was hiking across the street, Let's give this a try. Order the cheese steak / hand cut fries and a soda. The bread the ribeye cheesesteak was stale and almost twice the size as the steak it took up. I love hand cut fries but not these the looked like (micky Ds) and were not good plus very few of them. Stopped in with a friend for lunch on a quiet and rainy Thursday afternoon. My friend lives nearby and had been here a zillion times. However, it was my first visit. I loved the character and the charm when I walked in. Very rustic and welcoming. We sat at the bar and couldn't help notice the law enforcement patches from around the east coast. We began with spicy chicken wings. Very good. Spice was just right. Must have been a dish of 8 or 10. I moved on to George's Cheesesteak Special. Get ready for this one. It's an artery clogger for sure and make sure someone nearby knows how to work the paddles or knows CPR. It consisted of a foot long hero of meat, cheese, eggs, onions, peppers, and bacon. Excellent! Did I mention it came with waffle fries? Seasoned perfectly. It was different and tasty but there wasn't enough meat on it. The bread could have been fresher. Nice selection of beers but I wasn't fortunate to try one. Service was very friendly and excellent. There's a private parking lot with plenty of room. I wished I lived closer. MACARONI BITES.....FRIED!!! These pop-able bites started of the night with bursts of savory flavor. Perfect alone but I occasionally accompanied them with the side of ranch dressing using the flavor even more. The Cooper Mill burger topped the night with a secret sauce that stunned the mouth. Not only that the homemade original fries were perfectly cooked and sliced for optimal dining. To finish, we got an original limited time sponge cake that whistled with bursts of fruity flavor and the flavor reciprocated the look perfectly placed on the plate. The food does not taste like anything at all and is extremely over priced for the "hole in the wall" look and feel (and cleanliness) of the place. The "braised short rib" sandwich was tasteless steak-ums and cost us $15. The bartender was outside smoking every 10 mins and made the entire place smell like smoke when she walked in. It's very much a local "townie" bar but considering its Chester I held it to a higher standard. I wish we spent our $70 elsewhere. This was my first visit to the very popular Old Mill Pub. It was a Saturday at 4pm after a hike on the Patriot's Path and tour of the Cooper Gristmill directly across the street. I found and took a seat at the bar. I ordered the Copper Mill Burger with fries. I enjoyed my meal while watching just about all sports on the televisions. After a day of pumpkin picking this was a great find for us! The portion sizes are huge so if you are like us, I highly recommend that you have one appy and split the salad! The mozzarella sticks are great for the kids. We loved them. Salad was fresh, burgers were delicious. I had the Reuben and had to put a special note in - it was absolutely fantastic and I highly recommend it! The atmosphere is very country and very comfortable and casual. We returned to the Old Mill tavern after a 3 year hiatus. Wow, it has really improved. We have returned four times in four weeks. We've enjoyed sitting at the bar as well as dining. The steamers and nachos are outstanding. We recently had the salmon and hamburgers which were perfect. The service has been great whether seated at the bar or in the dining area. Definitely back in our dining or stop for drink rotation. read more

This place is a disappointment. Once seated I noticed one upset family immediately. Turns out they forgot to give one member their order. The rest of the family was already finished when it came out, but they were comped for the mistake. Still though that party wasn't please at all as they were talking about it once the waitress left. Then I started to notice the over abundance of flies in the restaurant. Like a lot of flies. That lead me to wonder, well if they're flying around out here are they landing on the food in the kitchen? Probably. That really grossed me out. Our appetizer arrived, potato skins, and they looked badly over cooked which occurs sometimes. My issue was the fact they were dumped off on the table and there weren't any plates or anything to eat them off of. Just the small plate they came on. Nobody came to check on us and the kid dropped them off and turned around and left before we could ask anyone for plates. With two kids at the table, it's not too much to ask. Then the food arrived. Grilled cheese was alright. Open face turkey sandwich was apparently okay but the turkey was really dried out. BBQ sandwich was alright as well, except for the bun which was clearly stale. Cheeseburger was okay, bun again was clearly old and stale and it wasn't toasted as stated it would be. Overall my opinion is that the place doesn't have much pride in what they do. They probably do okay business that keeps them happy financially but they probably don't care enough to make the necessary changes to do better business. Sure people have called it a "hole in the wall" but even places that claim to be that have pride in their product. This place seems like they have their die hards and they clearly don't have much competition, so they're content. Wait staff never once even checked in with us to see how things were going. My advice is skip this place and find something else up the road somewhere. It's overpriced for what they end up giving you and your money would probably be better spent somewhere else. ***After reading their profile, I see the owners are fairly new. Just left, was going to watch game 7 of the World Series but I can't stay in this sticky floor dive. All around mediocre, just like it was the last time I visited four years ago. The good news is the place is a whole lot cleaner than it used to be. The bad news is that the food is not as good, still good, but not as good. Old Mill is one of my favorite places when I go back home to New Jersey! I used to come a lot for dinner with friends or family, but lately I have been going for just a few beers with some old high school friends. It's always a great time. The food is DELICIOUS. I have gotten a wide array of foods there over the few times I have gone but they do the classic burger very well. Also very well portioned and I always have enough to bring back home as leftovers. They have plenty of cozy seating and I've never had to wait long (if at all) to be seated. The parking lot is fairly small, but it's never been an issue for me. What a lovely evening! This was a surprise dinner for a woman we have known for over forty years! We were a group of 10.The wait staff was attentive and accommodating. The steamers and guacamole were excellent. The ribs were just perfect. The burgers were cooked to perfection. No complaints about any of the desserts. The apple fritters were a pleasant surprise! I went here as part of a group on Saturday for lunch. This restaurant is wood paneled, with a bar (tvs are here at the bar). Our group sat in the back at tables which were pushed together. I was told that this place is known for it's selection of 26? beers and for its burgers (the meat is from the local butcher). Well....this made me want to try at least the burger and I DO NOT order burgers regularly since I am very fussy and usually end up either sending them back to the kitchen or taking them home to cook myself. So I held my breath and tried a burger. Well, I was NOT disappointed. Very very tasty, large and cooked to perfection. I also had the fresh cut fries (a tad limp) and pickles, onion, lettuce and tomato on my buger.....very very happy with the burger! Our waitress was young, very friendly, very competent and put up with our large, sometimes indecisive group. All in all, I would recommend this restaurant. After shopping on main St we decided to try this place for the first time. We saw the exterior picnic tables and thought we could have a late lunch sitting outside with our two 6 and 7lb service dogs. Upon entering the vestibule we were immediately told the dogs can't be in the restaurant. I told the young woman we would order "to go" and sit outside. She said they can bring the food out to us but they can't go back and forth to those tables. She walked away while we looked at the menu and she returned when we were ready to order and instead of taking our order she told us the dogs have to go outside and can't be inside. It was so rude and made it awkward and uncomfortable that we didn't stay to order. It's ashame these places don't do a better job training their staff to not chase customers away. I know not everyone is a dog lover but employees need to know the service animal laws and let management handle legal matters. read more
