The burger was huge, cooked properly, and served on a delicious bun with all the fixins' and a gigantic mound of fresh cut fries that would feed a family of 6... This was a complete and total gem of a surprise. We had wanted to drive up to the Pisgah Inn but didn't realize they had already closed for the season. Oops. We had been starving when we got to the closed Inn and there was very poor WiFi reception so...we turned to The Bible, a.k.a the Blue Ridge guidebook. The closest place open was here, the Cascade Mountain resort. We called and found that the Orchard was open...woo hoo! Down the mountain we came. We were nervous about the directions but eventually we arrived. Really made us nervous when we saw it but were so hungry we were looking at the dog wondering if she would taste good. We found our way around the gawd awful chlorine stench (its an indoor water park) to the bar/tavern. The bar tender was quick to get menus and show us to a table right in front of the fireplace. As it was 40 outside this was MUCH appreciated. He right away asked if we wanted a drink, I asked for a glass of Pinot. Holy wow was it a generous pour! Like 8 oz! I ordered a small Orchard salad and the roasted turkey sandwich. My mom got the chicken noodle soup and a hamburger. Here is why this isnt 5 stars. My salad was AMAZING. It was a spring mix of greens with onions, cucumbers, carrots, apples, almonds and grape tomatos. Your hungry right? The soup was less enticing. They called it chicken noodle but there was no noodles and very little broth. Instead imagine a cup of shredded chicken. Nothing else. My turkey sammich was totally awesome! Roasted turkey with spring mix greens bacon and avocado...soo good! I opted for the homemade chips..tasty! The hamburger was meh. So while I was a happy camper...my mother was less so. The inconsistency was wild. At least you know what to order now right? I just wish that bartender told us his name because he was a treasure! read more

This was unexpectedly and shockingly an excellent place. I had a huge ribeye with grilled vegetables and fries. The fries were freshly cut and the vegetables were grilled to perfection. The steak and vegetables were well seasoned and the quality of both was superb. They also have a good selection of craft beers on tap and a reasonably nice selection of wine. The only issue was that my steak was a little more on the medium side of my medium rare order but it was not a huge deal because it was flavored well and was clearly a good cut of beef. I was here on a cold November and was frankly a little concerned when I walked in as there were only two other people in the whole place...and one of them was the bartender/waiter/bus boy/wine steward who did a fine job of serving me and his other customer. After enjoying my excellent meal at a table by the fireplace I have no option but to rate this a five star experience! I hope others get to enjoy as much as I did. read more

We went to the Old Orchard Tavern for Thanksgiving dinner. We found that it is located in a mid-range hotel along the interstate, which should have given us pause. When we entered, a single table was occupied. We waited a few minutes until a man came up, didn't introduce himself or welcome us, just asked if we had a reservation. We did, but he didn't ask for our name. He offered us the table directly in front of the door. Seriously, when all the rest of the tables but one were empty. We requested a different table. The advertised buffet was disappointing at best. It did not look appetizing. No choices of salad or vegetables - one of each. They did have turkey and roast beef, which were good. The potatoes and stuffing were rather tasteless and barely warm. The unidentified man at one point called for the "chef" to come to another table. The "chef" was wearing a baseball cap on backwards and looked unkempt. The cost of all this magnificence was $30 per person and a 15% tip was automatically added to the bill. A 15% tip at a buffet is appropriate when your waiter keeps your drinks filled and removes used plates quickly. For one of our party of four, the drink order was wrong. The used plates were removed only when we requested. In retrospect, we should have taken a look at the buffet before deciding whether to stay. We terminated this experience 40 minutes after we arrived. It's difficult to understand why there is such a range of reviews for this restaurant. For example, 25% of the reviews on Trip Advisor are average and below, 5 are "terrible". We certainly didn't experience the "world-class dining" or "great service" that others have mentioned. And yet the points made in other negative reviews closely parallel our own experience. Overall, a disappointing experience that we will not be repeating. read more

The only reason I am giving this place one star is because I am unable to review it without giving it stars. The restaurant wasn't full when we walked in but we still had to stand at the hostess station for a couple of minutes before being acknowledged. Then the bartender said, "I'll be with you folks in a minute" and the precedes to look something up on his phone before seating is. I should have seen the writing on the wall and left then. We were seated, placed our drink order, when the drinks came back around we placed our dinner order for an appetizer and 2 entrees. ***we had earlier left Outback because of the long wait, thinking this would be faster. My boyfriend had night work in town that he needed to leave for in about 1.5hours** We might as well have been invisible after that. Quite a few more people came in and were seated after us. The bartender who was our waiter seemed to be covering most of the restaurant and we rarely even saw him and had no opportunity to flag him down. Finally 45 mins later I got his attention and got him to the table. I asked if it was normal to wait 45 mins for an appetizer? His answer was "No, I just checked and I can't find your ticket. I'm sorry." And so I said, "So they aren't currently cooking anything for us?" No. No, they weren't. He said that he could go put it in now but they're really backed up in the kitchen. I don't know when it would come out. My bf has to go to work(without having dinner) so I said I was just gonna go. But then I got really angry and after seeing my bf off went back into the hotel lobby asked who to speak to about what had just happened. I waited an extraordinarily long time to speak to the manager. I asked for my meal to be delivered to my room and to not be charged for it. The best she was able to offer was 20% off. I told her at that point I would rather give someone else my money. I know they were busy. I know people make mistakes, but that just wasn't good enough for me. That is not the kind of attention or customer service you expect from an establishment that averages $25 per entree. They were too busy for their staffing numbers. There was no way to deliver quality customer service with only 2 people running the bar and dining area. But also, a restaurant manger should be able to comp meals when it's warranted. As far as the quality of the food... I can't speak to that, I didn't get to have any. read more

We got TONS of fries with the order. The service staff is really nice and we had a fun meal with our 10 month old. They had about two high chairs. The beer list was good too. We came in for a drink after 8 PM as our nearby hotel did not have a bar. There were a few tables having dinner and some guests at the bar. There was one bartender and he was flustered. Kept leaving the bar and coming back. Took forever to get drinks and ran out of wine glasses so a relative got a glass of wine in a lowball. Price was right, but not a great atmosphere. My girlfriend and I saw good reviews on line -however-got there and the chlorine smell from the indoor pool blew us away -got passed that -no one greeted us at the front door and we had to ask if someone do we seat ourselves and we did menu items that were listed on the cheese board didn't come on the cheeseboard like honey and apple chutney however the plastic from the wrapped salami did -there were crumbs all over the cheddar from something that it had been placed with previously-my chips that came with my Prime Rib sandwich were not cooked through do they were soggy of which I asked the waitress to cook them longer and she came back to inform me she had dropped them herself and then we didn't see her for another 10-15 minutes-good luck getting any refills read more

From appetizers to their selection of sandwiches, burgers, and dinner entrees from the water or pasture you will find something for everyone's appetite. I especially liked the Bone-in Pork Chop with sumac and cayenne infused honey and apple slaw served over smashed potatoes with seasonal grilled veggies!...I had no room for dessert but hear the chocolate cake is to die For! Our family has been to this restaurant regularly since it opened. While there were a few glitches at first, we continued to return because of the consistently good food and cocktails. We now feel this is fast becoming a gem in the area. My parents and adult son and I last went on the Saturday night before Mother's Day. The ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant has continuously improved and was very relaxing and pleasant, especially near the fire. Cocktails were excellent as usual and the restaurant provides a nice, casual bar experience. The food was also very good and inventive as usual along with a lovely dessert. In terms of the price being high, we find it comparable with several other restaurants in the area, i.e. Outback -- and, again, we generally feel the portion size and quality is worth it. There have also been the addition of some lower price items to the menu that will be helpful. While at times, service could be friendlier, we have not had any bad experiences -- it was always efficient. Our family has also stayed at the resort and are planning a big private party there in a few weeks. Again, while there seems to be some growing pains with the new owners who completely renovated the place, it has only been open a little over 6 months. We really like having a restaurant and bar of this quality in the area and hope that management continues to give it the attention it needs to flourish. My parents live in the area and the entire family are frequent visitors. read more

I went for a dinner with my family to see one of my family members to the marines. When we walked it not only was the way extraordinarily long but when we got seated it took a while for the waitress to get back to us about drinks. Drinks were taken and all was good until the entire table was out of whatever they had chosen as their beverage for the evening for a solid 30+ minutes. Of course the time wasn't an issue as we were all visiting and cutting up while we had the chance but we were all frustrated with the time it took for our waitress to notice us all playing and slurping our glasses. Not to mention there was one large groups table next to us she was waiting on and a few other small 2 person tables that soon cleared out. Once drinks were refilled food took yet another extraordinarily long time to come out and when it did only half the food came out. This is a real hidden gem. We had a gift certificate my wife won in a radio contest, so we tried it out. Pretty empty for a Thursday night, and service was a bit disorganized, though friendly. Dinner came out very quickly. The prime rib and trout were amazingly good (perhaps the best prime rib I've had, prepared like a giant steak), we couldn't get over how great they were for the hotel-type restaurant it seems to be. When we raved to the server / bartender, he seemed puzzled that the place wasn't doing better and that more people didn't know about it. Guess it's very empty most of the time. This was literally the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Entire dinner was ruined for my family. The food was mediocre at best. The service was absolutely unacceptable... Very unprofessional and our waitress didn't crack a smile from the moment she approached our table of 9. She didn't even introduce herself and it was certainly obvious she did not want to be there. The worst part of the entire debacle was when our credit cards were charged for more then what our checks were. They would not give us a reason as to why this was even after we asked several times.... Fraudulent! We were promised that this would be resolved but it was not. My credit card is still overcharged and I will be reporting this as fraud. The restaurant manager, Holly, then became involved and she was made aware of what a reprehensible experience we had had. Instead of trying to rectify the situation as she should have done, she chose to react with a major attitude and raise her voice at the entire table. She never once apologized and told us sarcastically that we had been "very awesome" and she used air quotes as she said it. I asked her to walk away from the table because as guests of the hotel she should not speak to us in this manner. She refused and then stated that we were "not welcome" there.... I could not believe the audacity she had to say this. This was the restaurant manager! Not only will I be contacting the owner and operations manager, Daniel Day, this week, but myself and my family have already informed many family and friends in Hendersonville of this experience. We will continue to spread the word as the days come... Our family, of whom lives in Hendersonville, was in attendance as well as family that had traveled into town to celebrate a birthday and stay at the Cascades Mountain Resort. Family came from D.C., Charleston and Charlotte. What a disappointment this was to all of us.... I will be putting this same review on as many social media sites as possible to inform the public. Yelp and Trip Advisor are already done. No one should waste their time or money on this establishment.... read more

The atmosphere of this restaurant was great. It was quiet and romantic. We went here for our anniversary and the candlelight table definitely met the mood for that. The wait staff were good. They were very nice but seemed a little flustered and our waitress didn't know the menu. She left several times to go ask questions but I'm sure that's just because it is a newer restaurant. The problem was the food. Our meal was $70 and was not worth the price tag that came with it. The kitchen needs some work. The Brie bruschetta that we ordered was served inside a croissant-like covering. It was good except the cheese in the middle was still fridge temperature. The bread with the bruschetta was cut super thick but was still overcooked and the edges were more than rock hard. My steak had a great flavor but was overcooked and the edges tasted like burnt charcoal. My boyfriend's Caesar salad had lettuce chunks the size of his face and the only part of the salad with (barely any) dressing was the lettuce. The cobbler however, was phenomenal. Overall the kitchen staff needs some work, but the rest of the restaurant experience was pretty good. The price of the food was extremely high for the quality of food that we got.
