The Queen of Reseda and I snaked our way through Box Canyon and the Santa Susana pass avoiding the 118 to get here. Pretty sure we passed by the Spahn Movie Ranch where Charlie and his followers used to live. Cool drive from the Valley. I liked this place. They have a cool patio in the back. The waitresses were all real nice and the food came out fairly quick. This just seemed like a place I should have Chicken Fried Steak and eggs. Like most places, they don't season the food with salt and pepper. That was easy to correct. The Chicken Fried Steak was good and hot. The Hash Browns not so much. When LA County calls an all out ban/closure on restaurants and bars, Dad suggested this spot. A quick call to make sure they were open and voila! Breakfast was served. They do, as per the menu serve breakfast/lunch AND dinner. Talk about hearty and gettin' your money's worth. Gigantic portions. Tasty dishes made with local flair and reflective of the Mexicano roots. Reminiscent of an old western saloon, this ma n pa venue has photos showing the history of the area and seemed pretty popular with the locals. Everyone is friendly. My eggs tasted like the pan or oil was dirty when they were cooked but the kids loved their pancakes, French toast, and bacon. Took almost an hour to get our food. With hungry kids, that really sucked. I think it would have been fine if they offered some fruit or something to hold the kids over during the wait. Overall, friendly and decent service. Well my friend, you are in luck because the Old Susana Cafe exists! To be honest I know this restaurant HAS indoor tables, but I've never used them because I, like the hypothetical person described above, am somehow always here with my dogs. The staff is always so excellent and will tell you what treats are fresh baked. Last time I went they had homemade carrot cake which was god tier. The food for the most part isn't life changing, but it's charming and that alone keeps me coming back. Secret tip- it does not look like the kind of place that has a good Chinese chicken salad but it is seriously so delicious. Absolutely try this place out! read more

Completely surprised!!! This is an older diner shop style place, and it was absolutely amazing. Covid protocols followed, staff friendly, clean bathrooms, and the food so yummy!!! We ordered a waffle and croissant sandwich with egg, cheese and sausage. Everything was fresh and delicious. The staff walked by with fresh coffee and topped us off multiple times, overall they were completely attentive to our table as well as all their guests. I went to Old Susana Cafe for brunch on a weekend after hiking nearby. Although the restaurant was bustling, my party of 7 got seated quickly in the cozy patio. The service was on point and the hostess/waitress checked on us frequently to make sure we were okay and not waiting on anything. I tried Aunt Rhoda's Veggie Omelette with a side of home made fries and sourdough toast along with some coffee. The food was delicious. A constant supply of piping hot coffee helped with my post hike fatigue! I will definitely come back to try some of the other items on the menu. read more

We've been coming here for years and it's become one of our usual breakfast spots. We live right next to a diner in the valley but drive to Simi to eat here. The food and coffee at breakfast is great and the servers are all friendly and efficient. They have great options for kids to eat as well. My hubby and I go to Susana Cafe at least once every weekend, for their delicous food, excellent service, and for the proximity to our home. They have indoor and outdoor seating, do we can choose where to sit depending on the weather. Lots of food choices...we go so often, we practically regulars. Located on the corner with its own parking lot in the plaza. The food was really tasty and had good flavor. Staff was super friendly and very welcoming. She checked on us often to make sure we had everything we needed and we enjoyed the food. I think my favorite was probably the country fried steak, the mashed potatoes were nice and thick. The food was good diner grub - you know the kind that's kinda hard to mess up, but you're still pleased they did it right? I got eggs and bacon, my sister got waffles, and my cousin got an omelet. My bacon was a touch cold; it seemed like they were finishing up the omelet while my dish was sitting ready. Not a huge deal, but a little meh. The biggest thing was that the server had a mask on in the beginning then took it off and served everyone sitting inside without one. We were a little uncomfortable but didn't want to make a big deal about it either. I know the mandate is still that all employees have to wear a mask, but this kind of mom and pop maybe doesn't follow that as closely.
