This is an old school tourist spot with great views and classic drinks. Parking is easy but you gotta pay a couple of bucks ($2-4). Slider door open up for fresh cool ocean air. Yup a jacket or something else is recommended during cooler months. The food, really a bit sketchy depending on your palate. I personally don't recommend the fish & chips. They serve French fries and not chips. The fish is two small chunks, mushy and over battered. Not like the old days. The clam chowder is ok, not great but just ok. Everyone has stories of upstairs which is worth a couple of drinks. It's small and maybe seats twenty or so. Early afternoons are best for seating. Unfortunately not a positive review. The view is great; the ambience too. And it was a Sunday evening and a good amount of diners. But two of our main courses were really bad - I had Halibut piccata which was not thoroughly cooked and drowning in butter; my son had an Ahi tuna which actually made him a bit nauseous, with some kind of plastic on it or in it, just awful - had to send it back. The good news is they did not charge us for the Ahi Tuna. The soup and salad were ok, fine, my baked potato ok, fine; but this is the second time in a year we have had a dining experience with Old Tony's that just is surprisingly disappointing. I am hopeful they will get it more together in the kitchen. For now just would not go back, except maybe for a drink and the view - do not feel confident the food will be good. read more

Not going to lie, I was not as pleased with service as everyone gave us weird looks as we came directly from the beach. Went there after I saw reviews . Asked the waitress about different options of the food and she wasn't too knowledgeable about the menu . I decided to order the Halibut. It arrived and I assumed it was going to be the charbroiled- it showed up baked . She never asked me how I wanted it cooked . It was dry and over cooked . Was really looking forward to a charbroiled filet , especially for the price ! Really disappointed, it felt like I was at long John silvers ! My husband ordered the charbroiled seafood combo which was really good. Clam chowder was really good. Side salad was just lettuce and croutons- pretty boring. Filing a complaint with the BBB due to my very unsafe experience here. I'll keep the story short, but I had a photo taken of me at the bar by a random creep and when I asked him if he took a photo of me, Manny and Eileen immediately started shushing me and telling me that I can cause problems, I shouldn't do that, last time someone did something like this there was a fight and 8 people were arrested, he was only taking a photo of his cocktail, I'm in public and he's a perv so that's just what happens, and even more... Mind you, the guy ended up showing me the photo, admitted to it and reasoned with me by saying "you are just hot, I couldn't help myself"... he also ended up following us to 3 additional locations, our Uber pickup location and finding me on Instagram! The staff here had the opportunity to provide safety in a very clearly scary situation and they decided to "avoid a problem" by quieting me. I'm not sure if the man was a regular and that is why he was defended, but his name was Oskar (according to his Instagram page he followed me from) and the staff was Eileen and Manny. read more

Met friends here for dinner. Our server was nice and was good at making sure we got our food timely, and have our drinks refilled. Enjoyed the Fried Clam Strips and Fried Calamari. Tasty and a good way to start off the meal. Clam Strips may have been prepackaged, but they were deep-fried well and was not overwhelmingly breading like other places. Ordered the Combination Platter of deep-fried scallops (4), shrimp (2), and cod (1) with a side of fries. Dinners here come with a choice of soup or chowder, plus a side salad. Chowder seemed to have been made with potato puree and clam broth as it didn't appear nor taste like it has cream in it. The platter of seafood was prepared well with a crispy golden brown breading. Very tasty, but after the appetizers, chowder, salad and bread, I was full. One of my friends and I asked a runner to box our leftovers. He returned with 2 bags, handing each of us, supposedly, our leftovers. I get home, and I found that I was given my friend's leftover of a baked potato with sour cream all over it, and her half-eaten halibut. All was well until this. My friend had the bag with 2/3 of my platter. So much for eating the leftovers. I live 25 miles from my friend, so it wasn't a quick meet up and exchange of the leftover containers. I'll still award them 4 stars for the overall dining experience, but they need to be more careful about this mistake as we didn't expect this mishap. read more

My experience tonight was disappointing. The restaurant is dated. The food and service was just not good. I did not get the drink I ordered. the waiter forgot. The waiter also forgot our appetizer. I ordered the halibut piccata style. it was swimming in butter and it just didn't taste good. Picatta usually has lemon and garlic and this dish didn't taste like it had much seasoning at all. It was cooked and served in lots of butter.. The waiter said he would remove the charge for the meal I didn't eat, but he charged me $15 for the soup and salad that I also didn't eat. The bar on the first floor was a vibe. Felt like your below deck on a ship with old maritime decor. I think the original owner was a navigator in ww2. That Old decor probably seen some epic faces and wondrous evenings over the decades and u can feel that energy in the room. Your Literally right along side the ocean which adds to the esthetic . I ordered a shrimp cocktail and a beer. As I was enjoying the freshest shrimp cocktail I've ever had that felt like it had 10 shrimp in it. I notice the bartender making a line of drinks. And ask what they were. I was then introduced to the Mai Thai!!! They have a variant called the fire chief that has 151 rum in it so I was intrigued. Oh my goodness, do we love this place. We went last night for the first time and we were not sure because it is located on the pier, which could be touristy and awful or really cool. Thank goodness it was more than cool. There is a super cool upstairs bar area with window-seats all around. There were no seats available because it was Friday evening and it was already hoppin'. We went back downstairs and were greeted at the front by a lovely gal named Rhonda, who took our name for a table. We then went to the downstairs bar for a drink and appetizers and were taken very good care of by the bartender Michael. When we got to our table we were taken care of by the loveliest gal named Kaelin, who took excellent care of us. We got the halibut with lemon and capers which was delicious. The Mrs. and I headed to Redondo Beach Pier today to beat the heat. We sat on the beach for a while and then decided to have lunch. We were originally going to go to Quality Seafood, but after standing in a line for ten minutes that wasn't moving, we headed over to Tony's. It had been a few years since we had been to Tony's. My first and only review was over ten years ago, but we've been back a few times since then. I'll be honest, the food at Tony's isn't the best. What Tony's lacks in flavor it makes up for in atmosphere and service. Yes, Tony's is old school and probably hasn't been updated in 50 plus years, but that's what makes it so great. There aren't many places you can go to in the L.A. area where you can sit in an old school bar right on the water with great views and reasonably priced drinks. The food is overpriced, but look at where you are. You're in a tourist area! For those of my fellow Yelpers complaining about the price of the food, would you complain about the price if Tony's were on Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco? I doubt it. And if you think Tony's is overpriced, take a look at Kincaid's Fish, Chop & Steak House. As far as the service, Julie was awesome and she seemed to enjoy her job. I ordered a Manhattan to start off with and the Mrs. ordered a Margarita. We didn't order any appetizers and moved on to our mains. I ordered the Fish and Chips and the Mrs. ordered the Maryland Style Crab Cakes. Here is where I do think Tony's food is good value for what you pay. If you order from the Seafood Sensations section of the menu you get your choice of clam chowder, smoked salmon chowder, minestrone soup or a tossed green salad with your choice of dressing AND a choice of linguine with clam sauce, french fries, rice pilaf or veggies. Believe me, it is a lot of food. You don't need appetizers. We were going to order the clam chowder and then Julie asked if we liked smoked salmon, which we do. She didn't outright say the clam chowder wasn't good, but we got the message and appreciated it. So we ordered the smoked salmon chowder and it was so good. Julie gave us a sample of the clam chowder and we definitely made the right choice. My fish and chips obviously came with fries, but the Mrs. ordered the linguine with clam sauce so I took a taste. I have to admit, it was the first time I had linguine with clam sauce and it was pretty good. One of the reasons we like going to the Redondo Beach Pier is that parking is so easy. There is a parking structure attached to the pier that will run you $2 an hour to park, but the trade off is you're close to the beach and the pier. FYI-there is no validation for parking. read more

I ordered 2 Filet Mignon and Lobster.. Needless to say I was very disappointed, The food was all bad,, tough Filet and no Lobster Butter.. How do you call yourself a Seafood Restaurant and don't have proper ingredients for what you sell? Oh and my Potato was almost room temp so the seagulls had a treat. For $229 + I should've tried my luch at Sizzler it would've tasted the same without the beach.. Well it's goodbye to a old friend. We had a nice run Tony, but I have to let you go. Wow, entering this place tonight is surreal. When we were kids [pre-teens] our parents would give us money so we could have Hot Dog on a Stick, clam chowder and plenty of snacks with our friends up and down the pier while they came here with their friends for dinner and drinks. Today we came in with our adult [drinking] kids and it was amazing to think back of more than four decades of coming to Tony's on the Pier. It was great to have some cocktails and then have dinner. The wife and daughter both had the Fire Chief and both loved the drink and the fact that we got to take the glass home [actually they bring a fresh clean glass]. Some had a rum and Coke but I would be hard press to see the Coke, great pour. I started with a beer but had a glass of wine [Canyon Road Cab Sauvignon]. Drink prices are very reasonable with none of the drinks costing over $10 and the beer and wine much closer to $5 or $6. The dinners were amazing but as we were looking at the menu, we wanted to try everything. The boys and I decided do a three-way share. I got the Calamari Piccata. I was going with the fried calamari steak but my youngest son convinced me to go with the Piccata and he was so right. Older son went with seared Ahi tuna; damn it was good. And finally the youngest would order the Seafood Combination with salmon, swordfish, scallops and more. I honestly thought this would be the best but I have to say that all the way home, the big debate was whether the Seared Ahi or the Calamari Piccata was the best dish. I think I would order the Seared Ahi but either would would be great. The house salad with baby shrimp was very good too. Daughter got Steak and Lobster but honestly for a third of the price, we have some local hangouts that do a bang up job too. She was surprised that the lobster tail was bigger than we expected. We had ordered some appetizers but I told my wife it would be too much and it was. Plus I didn't think they were great and felt that there was not a lot of great value here. Would have been happier ordering a few more glasses of wine and waiting for my delicious dinner. The atmosphere is amazing. That's why you go right and the service is equally amazing. Our host kept coming out and giving us a status of the table we were going to get. With a party of seven, there was one table that would accommodate us so she was super informative, friendly and made the weight much more tolerable. Our server Kristy was equally friendly and on the ball. It turned out to be such a great night and the ladies certainly made it a much better experience. There was one guy, a manager I think who was kinda acting like a host but he did NOT look like he wanted to be there or interact with people, except when he reminded me to put on my mask. It was around my neck and I forgot I had put it down. If I had one complaint is the restroom is tiny. Do not go here!!! So.... Went to Tony's for dinner. Ordered 4 steak dinners and the meat (medium rare, medium and anothe medium rare. The medium rare were essentially raw. The medium was grey. We asked to have the food cooked correctly. We were told us was cooked correctly by the waitress. I went to speak to the manager. He was drunk. I asked if he had been drinking and professes he was sober for many years. I call bs. Half if not all the staff was high or drunk. The bartender seemed like the only sober person. They brought back the medium steak almost raw. I guess ass an f u. The manager also stated "you are just looking for a discount". On the contrary, we were looking for a good meal! We were hungry!!!it ended up with the manager making my friend cry and a racist connotation being added. When I told the mnager about making one of his gusts cry, he stated... " you want me to get you a towlie". I thing the guys name is jerry. I never wrote a Yelp review. I found it imperative that I do this time. What this place has going for it: views & vibes. Old school fish house with a 360 view up top at the bar. Sat by the window downstairs and watched the waves roll in. So that was nice. Easy parking at the pier garage. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was not good. We knew it would be busy on a Sat night so I'm not knocking it for that, we could see the staff was hustling. But the food/drinks were mid. The Mai Tais we ordered tasted more like a coke with grenadine--other reviewers' pictures actually look much better so maybe not their usual bartender? The food was ok. Smoked salmon chowder was actually very nice, but our sea bass was served very plain, desperately needed some kind of sauce or seasoning. Several courses built into the meal made for a lot of food. Be aware: this place is very popular so expect long waits for table AND food at peak hours. They don't take reservations. We waited 1.5 hours to get seated at 9pm (no hope for a seat at the crowded bar), then 1.5 hours to get through our meal. Could be worth a return trip on a weekday when they're not swamped. Such a shame, the presentation was nice, but I only ate some of my food because I was starving. The clam chowder was super salty, completely inedible, very strong flour flavor, like the roux wasn't cooked. WATCH YOUR WALLET... I was charged $130.50 for 6 drinks (not all for me...). I was in a rush but suspicious about how much that was (almost $22/drink) and sent them an email the next day (they ignored it...), called for the manager twice (and was told "YES" it sounds like you were overcharged...). I gave all the details and was told a refund would be provided "in a few days". A few days passed, then a few more... then more after that. So I called the restaurant again after about two weeks, and was referred to the office, where I left two voicemails over the course of about 10 days (which have been ignored...). I finally disputed the original charge amount with the credit card company but I am suspicious that there's probably a pattern of overcharging. We stopped here today for quick snack lunch. Food overall was ok. Not bad but nothing special. We got chicken Caesar salad (good enough) clam chowder ( very mediocre, wouldn't get it again). And coconut shrimp ( fresh crispy shrimp). Servers were ok. But the 2 busboys were impressive. 2 young Latino guys were very hardworking, kept refilling our waters, taking trash and dirty plates off of our table. Had a birthday party group of 16 . Tony's doesn't take reservations so I was very concerned about wait time.I called ahead of time to let them know about our group. To my pleasant surprise Rhonda , the hostess had a table awaiting us. We merely had to wait for our entire party to arrive. Our waitress Kayla waited our entire group and she was excellent. Her service and consideration was impeccable, The food was excellent. They furnished a dessert for my cousin who was celebrating a milestone birthday. She is still gushing over it! A few years back I took my wife here and I have to say the food was just OK and the chowder was awful. Flash forward to today. My God this place has turned it around.
