Why doesn't this place have a five-star average review. I travel around the world, and I can honestly say, the food and service here is some of the best I've ever experienced. And it is a surprise. Most of the restaurants on the pier have very low reviews. I ordered the fried calamari meal. The calamari was ultrafresh, lightly breaded just like the menu said, and seasoned to perfection. The fries were fresh and crispy. My meal came with a salad and a bowl of salmon chowder. The salmon chowder was out of this world. Chunks of salmon, and a very flavorful bisque. And the salad with blue cheese salad dressing was perfect. The blue cheese tasted homemade. When I walked in the restaurant I was greeted by a very kind and friendly hostess. On the way out, she was even better. This lovely woman seated me right at the end of the dining room where I had a beautiful view of the sunset. Then there was the sticker shock at the end. But this it wasn't your typical sticker shock. My huge meal came in under $31. I know we don't normally post prices on Yelp, but this meal in my home city of San Francisco would have been $85 at the very least. I'll start this review by stating the date and time: October 26, 2025 approximately around 5 -6 PM o'clock. I will make this as concise as possible. This was my first time ever dining in at this establishment. I will, explain exactly what happened. My family decided to dine here and planned on going fishing and walking the pier after. There were four of us. Upon being seated, I could immediately tell some of the staff were drunk or had been drinking. Our server's name was Amy. We sat by the window tables and were greeted by Megan, who was just filling in to get us started (she was so nice and polite), then we were greeted by Amy. She took our order and we all ordered steaks. I will explain what I ordered: NY Steak cooked Medium. Minestrone soup. Caesar salad. Soup and salad were great and came out with good timing. This is where things went terribly wrong. All our steaks came out and immediately I cut through the middle to make sure it was cooked to the correct temperature. It was Well-Done. Not a big deal, I just kindly asked the server to have it remade, but that was asked for 3 out of 4 of us. My boyfriend ordered the same thing I did at the same temperature and his came out just as ordered (he ended up trying to share with the rest of us). The other two in our family ordered different temperatures than us and still did not receive the correct cook of the steak. At this point, I went to speak with the manager just to express concerns and I had to ask the bartender who the manager was and he directed me towards him and I don't recall his name. He was wearing a Hawaiian shirt. This is why I included the date and time. These were the concerns I expressed to him: 1. Server (Amy) held out a bread plate while I was expressing my concerns of my steak and told me "Are you going to put the steak on here??" She interrupted me when I was being very polite in my explanation. She didn't seem to care about what I had to say. 2. Feedback on the flow of service and service in general. (You could tell the manager was drunk or maybe had been drinking.) He immediately told me: "What could we do? I know you want a discount. Let's just give you a discount." I politely responded "No, we actually want what we ordered. I'm just letting you know our experience here so far hasn't been great.". Upon requesting a remake of our entrees to the correct temperatures, we received even terrible outcomes. The server (Amy) asked me, when I expressed my steak wasn't cooked to my liking, "What can I do?" I responded "I would like it less cooked because it's not Medium, it is Well-Done." She then brought to the table a RARE steak and tried telling us that's what I wanted when, what I wanted since the beginning was a Medium steak. That is when I couldn't take it. I do want to just say on here that we are never ones to post yelps or leave bad reviews but this experience was discriminatory and just plain out rude. I was crying outside the establishment and the manager told one in our group if he needed a hankie for my tears!? It really did not need to escalate to this but the lack of customer service is insane. Most of that staff was drunk. This is discrimination: I am Mexican and polite and I work in this restaurant industry. I DO NOT judge people on their color or race. I will say most were white (just observation). I did not want to come on here and say this was discrimination, but it is. Tones and attitudes is something I could not write out for you all. Also, the exact words that were said and how they were said speaks volume. So many red flags. I will not be returning, and quite frankly, I hope this reaches the right people and ALL people. This establishment needs to acknowledge this incident. Manager: Uninterested and did not want to make things right at all. Also, drunk. Let's start with the good things about this restaurant. 1. The view and sound of the ocean are wonderful. That sums it up. This was on October 26, approximately at 5 pm. Now, for the experience, I couldn't fathom being in a movie, check my other reviews. I've had my fair share of bad experiences, but I've never been inclined to write a bad review until now. Ten years ago was my last visit, and the steak ranked in the top 5 I've ever had, until today. I was in the area on business and wanted to treat my girlfriend, business partner, and his son to a steak dinner on the ocean while we discussed ongoing business endeavors. We walked in and were greeted by a host who guided us to our table. When I said thank you very much, this is a perfect spot, she responded with "mm." I didn't think much of it, maybe she was just having a bad day. While waiting for our server to come, Megan came to take our drink order until our server was able to come. Megan was nice, no complaints. Then our server, Amy, came, who initially seemed sweet and very helpful until she wasn't. We ordered our steaks. Four in total. The soups and salads were good. Not as good as Campbell's. I digress. So, the steaks came, and 3/4 were cooked not according to how we ordered. Medium rare was raw, and medium was well done. We only complained about two of them. Mine was cooked medium, as well, and came as a true medium. The server rudely said to my girlfriend, "Well, put the steak on the plate." A bread plate that she was holding in her hand. Her demeanor had changed suddenly and unexpectedly. She asked the chef if that's how they were supposed to be, and he said yes. Why didn't my steak and her steak look the same if they were both medium? Delusional and in denial, the cook and server claimed it was correct. They "attempted" to make it right by redoing the steaks. I say that because when the steaks came, it was insulting. I'll get to that in a bit. My girlfriend went to talk to the manager about the situation, and he said, "I already know you kind of people want a discount. Is that what you want?" She responded, "No, I don't want a discount. I want my food cooked correctly. We're hungry." We're business owners! We weren't looking for a discount or a cheap dinner. My girlfriend is the head of Human Resources and in control of operations at an extremely high-end fine dine restaurant. Once again, I digress. The owner, while speaking to her, was clearly inebriated. He said he would be by our table and didn't do a thing. The steaks came, and the server said, "Check the steak before I go." The steak looked like a seared piece of tuna. It was raw! The server defended it and stated, "While you said you wanted it cooked less," they went from well done to raw. Really? I wish I had pictures. It was unbelievable. My girlfriend stepped out and started tearing up due to being overwhelmed. My business partner was talking to the manager, who claimed, "We helped her out. She's fine." My business partner also noticed this dude was drunk. After my business partner noticed she was crying, he got upset, went to the manager, and said, "This is what fixing it looks like. She's crying." My business partner came to the table and got myself and his son, and said, "Let's go." On our way out, the manager said, "Want a hankie?" My business partner went back in and exchanged not-so-friendly words between him and Jerry or Jeremy, whoever the manager was. Out of the entire staff, the only person who made an attempt to rectify the situation was the bartender. Shout out to him for trying to de-escalate the situation and do what he could to make it right. And one of the cooks in the back with a red bandana. We walked out on a $300-$400 tab. It's a damn shame. Being in the service industry, we tip a minimum of 30%. We pay for what we order. We just wanted our food made to how we ordered, and we got totally effed. It's too bad because this place was iconic and served the most delicious food and cocktails. It threw off our entire day and the next! It's currently 1 am in the morning, and I stood up just to write this review. Avoid this place like the plague. Forgot to mention, other servers and employees seemed to be drunk. I DO NOT WRITE BAD REVIEWS!!! BUT IF THIS PLACE OPERATES LIKE THIS, SAVE YOUR MONEY!! McDonald's has better service and food. Not a joke. Thank you for listening to my Ted talk. read more

Today was my dad's birthday and the server we had, couldn't have made it more worse than anyone else. The food took forever, he never filled our drinks, mischarged us, but didn't explain anything when asked. There are really no words for it. My family arrived around 1:30pm, I had arrived at around 2:15pm. It was very strange, but I was handed a dinner menu. I was reading the menu and saw that mine came with a soup and a salad (did not mention an extra charge). I even asked the server prior to ordering so there was no misinformation. When I saw the bill, I was surprised to see I was charged extra. When I asked our server, John, regarding the bill, he didn't explain anything. He just said, it was on the menu. He didn't care to bring it out or show it to me. He also wasn't hesitant to charge us the dinner price when my other family members that arrived prior got the same order. I felt pretty scammed. Also, the dinner portions were extremely large and had he explained this, I would have appreciated it. The food was actually pretty bad as it was super oily and lacked flavor. I didn't even tell the server that the food was bad, but I was really annoyed with how he upcharged us and didn't explain it at all to me. He was short, rude, and super unprofessional. You could totally tell that he absolutely hates his job, it really shows. It was pretty unbelievable especially from a food spot on a pier. I would expect to have much better service for being charged so much. On top of that, we try to pay and he steals the cash that we put towards our tab and still charges us as if we didn't put down any cash. Kind of ridiculous so it took them an extra 15 minutes to get their manager and figure it out. If his service was faster and more efficient, we would have been able to be in and out. I'm a local and it makes me sad that every time I've been at Tony's upstairs, one of my favorite places, the service is always been bad. I brought my uncle and aunt who were visiting from another country and was embarrassed by the way the waitress was incredibly rude. She got our order wrong and decided to yell back and argue with me instead of making it right. I will still go there as I love the Mai tais and it's part of RB that I love, but common, be happy, your at the beach! read more

My grandson and I love this place. It is right on the Redondo Beach Pier and you can get a seat with a beautiful view. The service is amazing. We had the nicest server. He was so kind to my grandson and helped him with the menu. He just was ever so nice to him and Buddy loved talking to him, which he does not tend to do, he is very shy. This server simply went above and beyond. Parking is in the lot for the pier and it is for a fee, but it is fine and not too far a walk. The food is just great. This is not new style sea food. This is traditional seafood and it is all great. Their salads are the best. If you get one, have them had shrimp, they are generous with it and it makes the salad perfect. Their soups are the best. We favor the clam chowder. All of their appetizers are wonderful. We had a combination of fried shrimp and calamari. It was not tough or too fried, it was just perfect. We loved the alfredo pasta with shrimp and clams. All of their fresh fish is grilled so nicely. Desert is the best. You can have a wide variety of items. I don't even know where to begin....highlights - service was good and open windows with a wonderful ocean view. So loved that part of it. For the actual food - it was so bad that it was almost good. The "clam pasta", allegedly the Italian version, was basically condensed clam chowder on the most overcooked noodles in the history of noodles. It was so bad, but somehow still tasted good. But on this day, with the cold in the air and surf raging, and us venturing south of DTLA, we decided drinks along the coast were what we needed. We headed to Tony's and we're famished by the time we arrived at 4. We were seated right away at the perfect corner window and Tony's signature Mai Tais and Fire Chief were ordered. Hubs perused the menu and didn't find a burger - uh oh. For me , fish is a delight and the cold weather dictated the cioppino ($33) would be my choice. Hubs went with the Queens cut NY steak dinner($30), thinking it would be "petite" as it was a lower price than the regular cut NY at $33. Both dinners came with choice of clam chowder, salmon chowder OR minestrone AND salad w/choice of dressing. His steak also came with choice of linguini w/clam sauce, rice pilaf, veggies, or potato(baked or French fries). Since he doesn't like seafood and I wanted to try both chowders, thinking they would be little cups, he graciously allowed me his clam chowder, and I selected salmon chowder along with my cioppino- yes, even though I was technically ordering a broth based entree, the cioppino entree still came with choice of soups AND salad. Let me tell you, E V E V E R Y T H I N G was delicious, full sized and VERY fairly priced for what we got. We were on our 2nd round of souvenir signature Mai Tais and stuffed to our figurative gills! Night had now fallen and the restaurant was filling up. We settled up, snapped a few more pics of the delightful decor, popped into the souvenir shop next door for a couple of Christmas themed Tony's on the Pier Tshirts, then finished the evening with a stroll around the famous Redondo Beach Pier, on which Tony's has been since 1952. As we drove away, we were already planning our return to this truly original, family owned & operated, delight of a restaurant. A great local hang out for their speciality drinks and good food for decent prices. We came to this place for the first time from a friend invite. Eight of us showed up on a Sunday afternoon, first come first served. We sat down at the bar while waited for the rest of our party. Mai-tais were apparently the drink of our party today but I went with a pina colada. Drinks were great and you get to keep the glass for each specialty drink ordered. There were those in our party who had a set of glasses going before the afternoon was over. Service was excellent and food came out quick. Portions here are huge in my opinion and some of us took doggie bags home. At the recommendation of the server a few of us tried the smoked salmon chowder which was a hit. I would definitely return here to try the other dishes, but also to try and complete a set of those Tony's lowball tumbler glasses. A group of us went to Old Tony's for my daughter's 24th bday and I brought a cake and candles for the occasion. The hostess was so sweet and offered to put the cake in their fridge and prepare the candles for us when ready. We had the famous mai tai's (with the glass to keep!) and had dinner. The food was good (not phenomenal) but enjoyed my scallops and baked potato. I was nervous about the salmon chowder but loved it! Let's start with the bread. Nice warmish sourdough with perfectly soft butter. The soup we chose was the smoked salmon chowder. It was delicious, especially with the addition of oyster crackers. I had the sand dabs and my dining partner had the Cajun grilled red snapper. Both were delicious and well prepared. The sand dabs were mild, lightly breaded and grilled. My dining partner had their famous mai tai, and was able to keep the glass as is tradition. The service was phenomenal. Our server was Noe. He kept on top of our drinks and was knowledgeable about the menu, and helped us make good choices. He recommended the smoked salmon chowder. How can you describe the ambience except to say that it is awesome! Nice tunes playing, the Pacific Ocean view, the waves lapping in the horseshoe and the smell of the salty air. Fish and shrimp were more likely frozen, and if not that brings up other concerns. The only highlight was the scallops. They were OK and cooked pretty well. June 2025, this place is just a step above the Seafood available on the west coast and we have eaten a lot in our times. From San Diego to San Francisco can't beat it. Waitresses and waiters are great and helpful. We have been here many times but never disappointed. The drinks are on par and creative if you need something special. We travel 1400 miles several times a year to enjoy the food, drinks, people and ambiance because the Seafood in Colorado is not very good. The loft is the best of all. But then she sat there and tried to parent us throughout our meal. Personally as young grown adults that don't need her parental control, not even guidance or support this was a horrible atmosphere. Went here for lunch with my boyfriend and we loved it! I am gluten free (sensitivity, not celiac) and got the grilled chicken Caesar salad and a side of fries. The salad was great, tossed with plenty of dressing. The fries were SPECTACULAR. They came out piping hot. My boyfriend got the fish and chips and said it was great. We were worried maybe it wouldn't be enough food for him but after he ate, he said it was the perfect amount. Our server was super kind and attentive. The vibe was also great. I was walking on the beach with a friend, saw Tony's, realized that we've lived in the area for close to 30 years but actually never been there! Say what?! How is that possible?! So naturally, we dropped in for an early dinner and enjoyed sharing a few plates of generously sized portions served old school style and overall, a great value! Our server was really friendly and gave us some great recommendations. I definitely wanted to try the Salmon Chowder which was so savory and tasty! We loved the Crabcakes dinner which also included a generous and delicious, lightly dressed side salad which was a meal.in itself. Meal also included a side. We both chose tge linguine and class, so creamy and a great compliment to our meal. Service was great with frequent checking in to clear our table and refill our drinks. I liked the decor and appreciated the view of the pier with the tide coming in. Plenty of tables available but it started filling up. Will definitely be back with the family and friends. read more

Absolute surprise this place was. Located on the center of the pier this place has been here for a long time. The top is a bar with epic views of the area. The restaurant down below has great views of the water as well. The ceviche was really good here. read more
