A family style restaurant that we've mainly gone to for breakfast . We've enjoyed the breakfast burritos and some of their classic items as well. The food is good but the wait time from the kitchen and attentiveness of the staff can be less than desired at times. I have never been to Old Towne, but we did get takeout yesterday. We had 5 different pies - gluten free, meatball, cheese, marg, and white. Pros - The marg was very flavorful, thin crust, and delicious! Definitely my favorite. Service is great (for takeout). The cheese and meatball were normal pies, nothing spectacular but good. Cons - Their white pizza is not a typical white pie, and not as described on their menu. It was basically a normal cheese pizza without sauce versus a typical white pie that has clumps of ricotta spread on top & lots of garlic, thin crust, etc. I wouldn't recommend their white pie. Gluten free was just okay. I would probably say 3.5 stars overall - strictly based on takeout pizza. read more

Omg!!!! Old Towne Restaurant is my new favorite place to eat. The pizza was Fantastic! The service was fantastic. I am so happy. What a true family restaurant. My four year old and came in after a hectic day and ordered a pepperoni pizza with a side of broccoli. Our wonderful server Jen not only asked if we needed something to eat to tide my son over while we waited for our dinner, but then brought the broccoli as a starter to make sure we ate our veggies before the pizza arrived! Mediocre at best. I think the downfall of this place must be that the menu has too much on it. This would be dismissible if a large portion of them were either simple or similar, but they're all fairly unique dishes. Have your chef's make each dish, and pick your favorites based on their capabilities, and then cut the menu in half. If you only have a limited number of things on the menu, I'll look at it and think, "Wow, they must make a really good ______ _______." Food: The portions were big, but the quality was just generally lacking. My meal as a whole just reeked of laziness and lack of creativity. The salad was clearly either pre-made or just made with very low quality/old ingredients. Everything had that "sat out too long" texture. The onions looked and tasted like were like shoelaces, the lettuce was wilted. The "creamy balsamic" had a odd yogurt-like taste. The pea soup was reasonably tasty, but the croutons on it were stale and chewy. Also odd, the soup comes with croutons already on it, but the salad doesn't come with any? The main dishes - the fillet of sole wasn't bad, and the vegetables with it were nicely cooked so that they were still slightly crisp. The Cavatappi a la Vodka was terrible. The sauce was too thick, seemed to be missing any suggestion of garlic, vodka or red pepper, and had just a generally unpleasant appearance. I ate 1/3 or so, and then picked at my date's fish instead, and had a snack later. "Do you want me to wrap that?" The waitress didn't seem to understand when I said no, but I kept it polite, and we still tipped well as usual. I never like to tip badly based upon the quality of the food - why should the server suffer? I just don't usually go back to such places.. Service: The service was OK. We were seated very quickly, and the waitress stopped by shortly after. She could have been a little friendlier, but it was around 7:30 or 8:00, and I think she was worn out. The only main issue was that my glass was never refilled, nor was it offered, even though we were seated right next to the main traffic aisle. Price: Pricing would be somewhat reasonable if the food was better. Even if the food was good, however, I'd suggest that that the prices are a bit high. Location: It's in a strip mall, and doesn't really stand out from the outside. The sign made me think that it was part of the grocery store, not it's own establishment. (In the way that grocery stores often label the location of the pharmacy or flower shop on the outside so that you know what door to enter.) Crowd: A wide mix, with tables of families, including quite a few small children, as well as tables of elderly people and tables of teenagers. Atmosphere is definitely casual. The thing I don't understand is how full this place was. If the food was either good or dirt cheap I might understand, but that's not the case. read more

Very strange. #1 on TripAdvisor in Trumbull as of the writing of this review, and decidedly mediocre on Yelp. Few average reviews, more vitriol and/or raucous praise. I'm on the side of the latter. The only bad thing I can really mention is the environment. I mean, I guess it's a diner of sorts, but they didn't have to make it so... diner-y. They were quite busy for a Thursday night and I guess a little more ambiance was in order. But still, the food was ridiculous. Both well done, AND in huge amounts. Honestly, I only finished a quarter of my entree. Not only was it enormous, but it was served after my enormous French Onion soup, and a bread basket which included cheesy garlic bread. I mean, come on. it's a Smorgasbord here. My leftovers felt like I was getting take out. I didn't eat for 24 hours... not because I was sick, but because I was full. Have gotten food from here countless times. Tonight, we got take-out from here actually. Caesar and Greek salads are wonderful. The pizza has the type of crust you want to eat, not throw away. I've been here a handful of times. It's a step above a diner, but definitely a casual restaurant. They have a fairly large menu and several daily specials. It's good if you just want something casual with good food. The portions are huge! I really like their eggplant parmesan and a shrimp appetizer that I've had. I also like that they have a full bar. It doesn't seem necessary to make a reservation here. The service is hit or miss. Entrees run around $15-$25 each, a glass of wine is $7. This is a good place for a quick meal. read more

I have absolutely no idea why this place only has three stars thus far. I literally have never had a bad meal here and I will go as far as saying that the chef is more innovative than some of the 4 star restaurants for which I have been. The only drawback is that it looks like a diner, but I have gotten over that because if they updated, then they would have to charge double for what they are serving. I was here a few years ago and had a better experience. I went with my three kids and senior mom today. At the front, they asked if we had a reservation. We said no, it was 5 pm and the place was mostly empty. They talked about where to place us and then led us to a booth. We thought the seating at the booth was tight and I also don't like cramming in booths with the kids. They never asked preference or used basic logic as I am a large women. The guy ( waiter?) said he had to ask the manager when we asked to have a table. There were plenty of tables open nearby. She came over and seemed flustered. She took us to a table in the back and made a big deal of making a space for us. It was really petty. There were other tables that could have worked better. Another family sat at one of those tables not long after. White family with kids. The waitress ignored us, no eye contact. She took their order and delivered it, then left. Not even a glance. I got the message we were not welcome. Very confused but We sat there 15 min with no service after the odd start. We just left and we're ignored. Their loss as I am a good tipper and we would have been easy to serve. I also write great reviews for great places. No idea why they acted this way but we had a concert to get too. Went with my boyfriend's family today for lunch...absolutely great! The salad and eggplant appetizers were really good--tasted really fresh and were also very generous portions. I had a chicken cutlet sandwich, which is served on a grinder. Needless to say I could only finish half. The grinder was also really fresh and good quality. Chicken cutlet tasted marinated (not just fried and greasy like many places). Finished with dessert, we sampled different cakes and ALL of them were amazing. Not gonna waste my money at this place if that's the best first impression they can give. My advice for old town is to get real employees answering calls. First time I have been there in years. Went with my 5 year old. Luckily I made a reservation because it was packed solid on a Saturday night which I love to see for a restaurant in these hard times. Service and people were great. They accommodated my kid really well. The food was good. My after dinner drink didn't work out due to the machine not working (it happens) got coffee instead and a scoop of ice cream for my kid. Everything overall was great. The food wasn't anything special and the service was very slow. It wasn't very busy, but from the time we sat down it took roughly 30 minutes before our order was taken. The "glasses" of water weren't much bigger than a small plastic cup and yet the pitcher of water they brought couldn't fill glasses for the small group we had. Our waitress was nice, but was very touch feely. We had asked her a few questions about the menu and what they offered that was gluten free and she had no idea. For someone who works in food service and for how many people eat gluten free, its probably something you should know. As I said before the food was ok, but nothing special. I got a burger w/ fries since I figured its one of the simpler things on the menu. The top part of the bun was hard and the burger was over cooked, the bacon was good though. All in all it wasn't terrible, but I also wouldn't suggest it the next time my family goes out. This four star review is based on evaluating Old Towne for what it is - a "nicer" diner. They have a HUGE menu, anything you could possibly be in the mood for, they have. It's not easy as a parent of 3 kids 4 and under to find places to eat that 1) you can bring your kids and 2) don't suck. Old Town is one of those places. The food is good - the staff is friendly, and the portions are big. I've run into issues calling in food to pick up, they seem to be a tiny bit disorganized on that side of the restaurant, but not enough to complain about. For a quick and cost effective dinner to pick up - I recommend one of their family meals. It comes with salad, bread, pasta, and a select entree (we usually go with the chicken parm). Old Towne Pizza used to be so good. Not sure what happen to the dough recipe, but it isn't good. There old recipe was true Greek style pizza and the crust was thick and delicious. Now it is flat. I am not an expert with dough, but someone is cutting corners here. Trumbull has many pizza places, but none of them can produce a great pie compared to the Bronx. Not sure why? I recommend they take a trip down to Louie and Ernie's, Tommy's in Throggs Neck or Sal's in Mamaroneck which I think is the best pizza available between CT and NY. Whoever figures it out will have a gold mine! Maybe all these pizza places here in CT are doing so well that they don't need to improve. When I met a buddy for pizza at Old Towns I expected the typical pizzeria in a strip mall. When I got there that's pretty much what I found. We ordered a pizza. The waitress dropped a basket of bread on the table, typical mall pizza bread, and I sighed, thinking off the mediocrity yet to come. But being hungry I had a piece...it was garlic bread! And tasty too ! Then the pizza came...it was delicious! Wonderful medium thick crust...Covered in fresh vegetables, even the mushrooms were fresh, thickly sliced -not those canned things..not much in the way of leftovers by three time we were done... The waitress was nice, but she looked a little over worked with the number of tables she had, the place was rather busy considering it was on a Wednesday at about 5pm...I felt the prices are a touch high, but not too bad. It's a love / hate thing... here's why: I recently started writing reviews on yelp. In my last review I mentioned Old Towne, so I figured I'd write one for here too. One of the things I dislike most about this place is they have a SERIOUS identity crisis. We're a bar, but we're not - we're a pizza place, but we're not - we're an all inclusive food place, but we're not a diner. Their website says "Italian Cuisine" but their Italian dishes aren't serious, hardcore authentic Italian like you would get at Quattro Pazzi, Luigi's, Tuscany, etc. Another thing I dislike about Old Towne is where it is. The parking situation is terrible. They share parking with a post office, 2 banks, a liquor store, a nail salon and a dry cleaner. On a busy day, you'll feel like you're playing frogger just to get inside. And of course there are the people who think they're special and park in the no parking zone right in front to get their take out or liquor next door. So with those two major dislikes, what's to like? They do a nice breakfast. Strangely it seems to be a secret too. If you go around 8-9 am, you'll find no problem getting in without having to play frogger like you might at dinner. Tried numerous things on the breakfast menu multiple times, liked every single thing. Excellent really. Lunch is good too. This is when you can start getting pizza, which is a Greek style pizza. If you are unfamiliar with the style - Beverly on Fairfield Ave. and Captain's Pizza are both Greek style. Old Towne has a unique flavor and texture you really can't get elsewhere. I've been a fan of their pizza for years. Unique is good. Dinner is good. Pizza is still served during dinner so that's good. But it seems like they want to be a higher end restaurant than what they are or something. The dinner menu is packed with adjective heavy wording that oversells the food. It is my opinion that the food you read about has a disconnected feeling with the food that arrives on your plate for dinner. Either lay off the food network descriptions or bring a higher level of more consistent food. You're missing a higher rating otherwise. Another reason for the lack of a 5th star is they keep 'renovating' which does nothing for the food - which is the most important thing from a restaurant. read more

Visit this restaurant more times then I can count, food is great and the service is great as well! Was there tonight for some corn beef and cabbage which was delicious! Only problem I had tonight was listening to the owner or manager or whoever she was yelling at the staff in the kitchen which made it very uncomfortable for us customers waiting to be seated and while we were eating! I love this restaurant when the owner is present. When he isn't onsite, everything goes down, from service to food. The staff is completely different when he isn't there! Some were on their phones, others eating. It took 15 minutes to get soup. We normally get bread with the soup. We had to ask for it, and it finally arrived, about 10 minutes after the soup, which we had already finished. We got 4 tiny pieces of bread, the waitress said it took so long because the first batch burnt. Our food took forever, which is unusual for this restaurant. The waitress said she was super busy, running around like a chicken...There were only a handful of customers. We won't go back until then owner returns. read more

We hadn't been out for a while and decided to head over to the new restaurant in town, but they were packed and the kitchen was backed up so we thought we'd give Olde Towne Restaurant a try. We had heard good things about it both online and from people in the neighborhood and, if anything, after eating there we at least have a new take-out destination. Service was prompt, although had some glitches. They were pretty slow, only a couple tables full, and it was toward the end of the night. Our waitress came over to take our drink orders, and as she left another waitress came over and asked us again. A bit of confusion I guess! We found the prices to be reasonable, although the food style vs. price didn't seem to really fit in with the decor of the place. They had a special where if you order one of their specialty entrees and an alcoholic beverage, you get a second beverage for free. However, all of these entrees seemed too rich for us that late at night so we didn't get to take advantage of it. I ordered the New York Strip Steak salad and my boyfriend got a pasta dish with vodka sauce and charbroiled chicken. It also came with a side of soup, and he ordered the Lemon Chicken Orzo soup. They brought over a bread basket, which contained both garlic bread and Italian and both were delicious. The soup came and while he at first didn't enjoy it, I tried it (as that has always been a favorite since I was little) and loved it. I urged him to try again, since it was very close to the avgolemono I used to get at Europa in Fairfield. Once he gave it a second chance, he realized how good it was and he wished it was a bigger serving. Soon our food came and my salad was delicious. My only complaints were that there was only one piece of carrot (which was kind of strange) strewn off to the side and the way the fresh mozzarella was presented (however that is more of a personal preference and not a huge issue). I ordered the steak medium and it was a little more on the well side, but was still good. However when my boyfriend began to eat his pasta, he realized they forgot to add the chicken (the dish comes both ways). It took them a while to even come back to check on us (or refill our drinks), and he had to flag down the hostess to get his proper dish. The waitress ended up apologizing profusely once she found out (although strangely she did walk by us a few times while only I had food and she had never mentioned it before that) and said it would only be a few minutes. The servings themselves were huge, and I was already full and had stopped eating by the time his food came out. By then it was close to 10pm and the pasta seemed a bit heavy for that late of an hour (our dinner plans had begun at 8:30, but that included a wait at another place first), but it was very delicious. The chicken was tender and the sauce was light, although it was definitely not charbroiled. All in all it was a decent meal. We probably won't go back for a sit-down dinner, but will definitely try them again for take-out and possibly lunch. read more
