We've grabbed sandwiches at Old World Deli twice now and the sandwiches are great! The first time we went about a year ago, we confused them by trying to order a half corned beef, half pastrami, but it worked out. Both their pastrami and corned beef are excellent. My husband loves the house mustard (but it has wheat in it). They have gluten free bread available which is great for me! We will definitely continue to return when we're in the area! read more

It wasn't our first choice as we were looking for lunch in Bellingham the other day (our bad) but they had inside seating and the alternative down the block didn't. We were not disappointed though and will definitely be back. I had a spicy Italian sandwich with their house made charcuterie which was excellent. My wife had a daily special salad with chanterelles and a cup of Hungarian Mushroom soup which I tasted and was sorry I didn't get it. We've long stopped in at the Old World Deli for interesting wines and specialty foods, but today was the first time we enjoyed one of their sandwiches. A wonderful muffaleta sandwich filled us and satisfied our desire for something tasty and interesting. Nice bread, delicious olive tappenad, and high quality meats and charcuterie. We accompanied it with a nice beet salad and pickle slice. This might have been our first meal from the deli, but it won't be out last. If you haven't tried it, do so! read more

I had the corned beef which was a pretty great version of a Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich and an additional pickle. It used to be great. Actual grilled panini. Not anymore. The grilled panini is not. Just toasted dry panini style bread and skimpy filling. I ordered the chicken pesto, provalone, with red peppers. There was a sliver of red pepper, a few tablespoons of shredded chicken, and what looked like paper ( but it was cheese). The pesto was fine. Such a shame. It used to be so good. read more

Ended up here after our first couple of choices were unavailable due to COVID. Being this wasn't my first choice and on the verge of hangry probably didn't help. Menu consists mostly of sandwiches, paninis, soup, salads and meat/cheese boards. We choose the panini special $13, sandwich special $13, a bowl of soup $6, and chips $3.5. I should have taken pictures. Sandwich and panini were VERY small portions as was the "bowl" of soup which was more like a cup (maybe they gave us the wrong size). Please note the sandwiches do not come with anything. I felt super disappointed upon the arrival of my food well mostly my stomach was disappointed on the portions. Service was very friendly! Parking was easy! This place is just way over priced for the quantity. I did enjoy the taste of the food. Aren't sandwiches always better when someone else makes them?! Old World Deli is my favorite place for lunch in Bellingham. The café is simple with a brick wall on one side and a copper red color wall on the other. Paintings are scattered along one side on the wall for sale and chalkboards surround the counter area. The menu offers quite a selection depending on what you're in the mood to eat. There's breakfast paninis, hot or cold sandwiches, soups, salads and meat/cheese plates. Coffee, wine or beer is available for purchase to enjoy with your meal and water is self serve. There's a great selection of pate, sauces and jarred goodies for purchase because after all, this place is a deli too. Kids can be kept entertained with a small number of books and toys available. Old World Deli has Happy Hour from 4:00PM-6:00PM (Thu, Fri, Sat) and live music from 6:30PM-8:00PM (Sat). This is a gem in Bellingham. read more

The best sandwich I've had in Bellingham! I ordered the Italian sub on my first visit here... and chances are I'll never order anything else because it was just that amazing! Super thinly sliced meat and cheese on some delicious chewy yet crispy bread. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! My boyfriend ordered a roast beef and pickled pepper panini, which was also very good, but nothing could beat my Italian sub! The grocery component of this store is just as good as the food. They have a great wine selection, and a wonderful little section of Italian grocery items. They also have a cheese case, and deli meats sliced to order. We've been here a number of times, and it's clear that this is a great place for a sandwich or Panini, plus quite a few specials that don't appear on the menu. Most of the meats and cheeses they use would not even be recognized by your local Subway guy. They are either real European products or high end domestic ones. You'll not likely to find Boar's Head here- and Boar's Head is the best you'll find at any of the supermarkets in the area. The Spicy Italian Sub was one of the best Italian subs I've ever tasted. The warm Mediterranean Tuna was excellent and also quite different from your basic tuna sub, with albacore tuna salad, black olive pesto, fresh tomato and arugula (although it may have deteriorated a bit, see below). The Horseradish Roast Beef is also very good, and features perfectly cooked beef. The corned beef and Swiss was the only sandwich we've tasted that was pretty ordinary. A similar version of this dish at Gandolfo's New York Deli is both juicier and larger. We have also split one of their salads, the Fresh Mozz (Mixed greens with fresh mozzarella, pine nuts, peppers and balsamic vinaigrette), which was excellent. Our most recent visit, during the COVID-19 crisis, was also mostly successful. We went there because they offer curbside delivery and a alternative where you pay online and just skip the ordering line and pick up your order- 30 seconds in the store. This is essential in these difficult times. My wife's Hungarian Mushroom Soup was outstanding. My Hungarian Deli Soup had a nice flavor, but the beef was tough. My prosciutto Panini with, mozzarella, tomato, and arugula was excellent, and my wife's tuna Panini was good but seemed a lot smaller than she had some years ago. My chief criticism centers on the sides. My potato salad on one visit was just potatoes and dressing with a bit of dill pickle and red onion and costs $2.75 for a small scoop. Other sides are similarly priced and sized. They were not worth the money. Still, I'll be coming back for the sandwiches. And one other thing- they sell their meats and cheeses in bulk. You can get stuff here that you won't find anywhere this side of Seattle. read more

We went for some stocking stuffers and ended up with so many amazing items such as San Juan Sea Salt, Portland-made caramels, and French Bitters. We love the old world deli for a lot of reasons, one or them being the Hungarian soup!!! There are so many delicious deli meats and treats that are hard to find on the west coast. I used to live in New York and old world is remnant of a lot of the treats I had there. I heard this place has the best soup in town, and I agree. My daughter decided to serve their soup at her wedding and that was the right choice! Had seen this place and thought, "love deli's". Went and got my favorite Italian sub to see how they do. The store is pretty impressive, with all type of 'Old World' type foods, like Honey water. You could get lost in the cool items they have all over the shop. Had to get the sandwich to go. I'd try it at home sight unseen. Got home and unwrapped the somewhat heavy, small sandwich. Was a little surprised by how small it was made? I had ordered a large. I wondered how really small a 'small' would be? A finger sandwich?? It was really packed with meat, not that 2 or 3 slices cheapness. This sandwich had some taste and it was really fresh! I really wish they would have a large size than a 5-inch sandwich as a large!?! They are a good place to eat at if you are not starving. Lots of flavors and great menu on the boards above. I'll just remember to have a snake before I eat there so I'll be full when I'm finished. If I could give 6 stars I would. Not only does OWD have the best quality products in town but their service is old world classy. On multiple occasions I've seen the staff demonstrate exceptional customer service going out of their way to make me and my family feel valued and ensure we are happy. As a former chef, I'm impressed with their charcuterie and as a New Yorker I'm delighted with their sandwiches. Their wines would make grandma smile and talk for hours. Old World rules the deli world thanks to a great staff put together by fantastic ownership. From in-house pastrami, to the horseradish roast beef and ham on rye, their sandwiches complete me. This place brings big city caliber food to li'l ol' B'ham. It reminds me of places I would frequently go to when I lived in Sausalito California. Their meats are first rate, they use Breadfarm bread (best bread ever) and their soups are superb. The have such a great selection of sandwiches and paninis, salads, soups and drinks (and cookies). They also boast an impressive selection of wines and gourmet foods that you just can't find anywhere else north of Seattle. I've heard that Old World Deli is THE place for the perfect sandwich and was excited to finally get to try it out. I got the Chicken Pesto, but substituted the pesto for sun-dried tomato sauce. The bread was fresh, and sandwich was good, but I just don't think paying $8 for a whole sandwich was worth it. I've had better. My lunch cost over $13 for my sandwich, a soda, and a bag of chips. The sandwich only came with a slice of pickle, and anything els was sold separately. They have s wine selection and shelves of gourmet sauces and ingredients for purchase. They do have specials of $10 for 10 wines. It all sounds great, but couldn't find any wines I would like, so was disappointed. I'm glad I tried Old World Deli, but there are just better sandwich shops out there, and it wasn't worth the price of the rave I heard so much about. read more

I was craving a tuna fish sandwich and I got a tuna panini and it was exactly what I needed. The pickle was delicious as was the side salad. I was a little weary of a warm tuna fish sandwich but it was SOO good. Hit the spot completely. Really like the feel of the place and the service is nice. They answer questions and seem very familiar with the whole menu. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because it's pretty expensive. 2 sandwiches one without a salad shouldn't be 24 dollars but it was.
