Ambiance and Decor: Very homey, they haven't changed the interiors for the past 20+ years. Try to sit outside the patio on a sunny day, if not try to get a banquet seat at the front of the restaurant so you can have a view of the water and the ferries coming in. Service Quality: Friendly staff, but you'll need to stop them if you need anything. Menu Variety: The only thing to order here is the fish and chips - you can never go wrong here. Food Presentation: Its put on the plate, what else can you ask for here. Food Taste and Quality: Great crispiness on the fish. Their fries are batch fried so just hope that your chips are fresh and warm with your fish. Portion Sizes: Large portions - worth the money for sure. The bowls of chowder can fill you up. Price and Value: A bit pricey just for one piece of fish - but always worth a stop whenever you're in the Horseshoe Bay area. Overall Experience and Recommendation: Can't go wrong with their fish and chips. Will always come back here for a solid plate.

Came here on a rainy chilly Friday morning at 9am before heading up to Whistler. The restaurant feel is eclectic, cozy and welcoming. Has a very cabin and coastal feeling. Lots of open seating - the server Cass was super friendly and provided amazing service. We ordered hot black tea and a hot chocolate with whipped cream (of course). Both drinks were piping hot - which I love! I got the Spa ish Omelette and my Fiancé ordered the Two Egg Special with an extra egg. Both dishes were great. Hit the spot before a long drive. If we were ever back in the area I'd come here again.

The best fish and chip an ever! Mother's Day treat in Horseshoe Bay. There is nothing like the ocean, food weather and a celebration to wet the appetite for the mainstay fish n chips place in the lower mainland. Fast welcoming service and the best venue to have a huge plate of the moist but crunchy fish and tasty fries that keep us going back for more. Don't miss the opportunity to visit and take in this gem!

Our party of 18 dined at Trolls for lunch. We didn't have a reservation and chanced upon getting a table. After 5 minutes, we were seated in 3 tables of 6 which was perfect. Our waiter was attentive and we got our food in a reasonable amount of time. Just as any big party, there's always one who does not get their food with the rest of the group. Luckily, it was only a sandwich and it came shortly after. The food is ok and the service good. The place is quaint and location perfect in HorseshoeBay. Our tour guide told us to try the fish and chips which was the specialty. Unfortunately, no one complied and stuck with soups and sandwiches .

We came ate here while waiting for the ferry out out of Vancouver. At first I thought it would be weird to have brunch at a fish and chips but it wasn't bad at all! Good food and service. Nice views.

So call crab cake hash brown bowl ‍‍

This is the 3rd time I've been here while waiting for the ferries and it just gets worse..... my bro and I had the crab cake hash brown bowl and it turned out to be more like dry falafel pucks on potato wedges covered in crazy thick hollandaise sauce, it was dry, probably not even crab and $25 bucks. I'm a pretty good cook and when a garnish is literally two threads of green onion, that's sad. On top of this, the server spent 20 minutes talking to her friend and the end of the patio while we all waited for coffee and cutlery, I literally got the coffee jug my self and topped everyone up. I would definitely not be going back and with we saved $40 and went to Starbucks. Place straight up sucks !

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE With a view of the bay and good food and service on tap, there's a lot to like about Trolls if you can get past the relatively high prices! === 2. FOOD Fried Calamari ($16): As an appetizer, it works for up to two people. There is an argument that the portion (and/or individual pieces) are quite small, particularly for the price. Joe's Fish Stew ($23): If the price doesn't floor you, you would be relieved to know that the portion is large enough for two people to share and they don't hold back on the pieces of cod, halibut, salmon, and baby shrimp! It does come with two jumbo shrimp and two pieces of garlic toast. Kid's Meal ($9.50): This is likely the best value on the menu: for this price it includes your choice of beverage (we chose milk), a one-piece fish and chips entree (large enough for an adult, really - the fries are fresh-cut from potatoes) and two scoops of ice cream with your choice of strawberry or chocolate syrup. I only wish kids of all ages could order this :) === 3. SERVICE The service was great - friendly and quite attentive. They told us it's family-run, and that is believable. === 4. ENVIRONMENT As a fellow Yelper mentioned, it looks like a diner on the inside...old-school wood decor with a canoe hanging from the ceiling and a "chef" caricature stuck in the middle of a wall. But the light is tremendous, with big windows on two sides, including views of Horseshoe Bay. Wheelchairs and baby strollers could fit...but only just. Parking is available across the street and along nearby streets.

We came here to get breakfast and I ended up getting the "Fisherman's Breakfast" which had scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. I found everything to be a bit dry especially the hash browns and bacon. Overall, I didn't think it was anything too special but an okay place to grab breakfast if looking for something near the ferry terminal.

Walked in around 2pm on a Sunday... The front hosts didn't acknowledge me when I walked in so I did have to wait a couple of minutes before they finally acknowledge the fact that I was there, took down my name and then I got seated right away. We were told to leave our stroller by the entrance and that the staff would keep an eye on it for us. We got a booth by the window so we had a nice view when we had our lunch. They gave us the menus and a kids menu (coloring page) for us, some water and a closed lid kids water. Their menu was quite extensive but since the name of the restaurant contains fish and chips, that was exactly what we ordered. We got the cod fish & chips, cod burger, kids halibut & chips, and also their white clam chowder. The cod fish & chips was actually really delicious. The batter to fish ratio was perfect. Their fries were plain but it was good after we added some salt & pepper. The kids halibut & chips ($16) was basically one adult sized piece of fish with fries. So it was very worth it! The halibut was very soft, flaky and fresh. The kids meal also included a children drink as well as an ice cream cone for dessert. The cod burger ($19) was a giant piece of cod inside a burger with lettuce, tomato, onion & pickles. That was also very good too. I quite enjoyed the clam chowder ($15 for entree size) , although I did have to add some salt to it. But better under salted than over salted so everyone can customize it to their taste! We walked out of the restaurant super full as their portions are quite large and very delicious! Would definitely come back again!

Troll's is self proclaimed home to the best fish and chips in Horseshoe Bay. The windows overlook majestic views which adds to theoe charm. We tried the halibut and cod fish and chips. The dish came with coleslaw and tartar sauce. The portions were great considering each piece was about 19 bucks. However, I feel this place is a touristy place because after the first bite you will realize that the fish is not extraordinary tasting. Hell! The outside batter was not even crunchy. The fries were good though. An unexpected find at this place was the long island iced tea. I have never been a big fan of it but they had one of the most delicious LIIT I have ever had. If you are ever in the area and visit Troll's, I would suggest passing on the fish and chips but definitely trying their LIIT

I went with the Sunny Dish this time in an effort to go low carb and have more room for dinner in the evening. It was a great option and I think my favourite part of the dish is the avocado. It's just always so satisfying to see lovely, green avocado on my plate as avocado tends to go brown quite easily when we have them at home in our kitchen. Daughter ordered the same breakfast sandwich that she ordered last time along with a mocha, and I ordered the Adult Mac n Cheese with a London Fog. There were a couple of hiccups this time. First of all they mixed up my daughter's drink order. Instead of a mocha they made her a hot chocolate. It looked like a wonderful hot chocolate, with a lovely heap of whipping cream on top but it was not what she ordered. So they took it away and made the mocha that she ordered. Then there was my order. My Adult Mac n cheese comes with toast. When they asked which kind of bread I would like for my toast, I asked if I could have the curry baguette bread which is usually used for their Shrimp Melt sandwich. They misunderstood and thought I was changing my order from Mac n Cheese to the Shrimp Melt sandwich itself! Nope, that's not what I wanted. I still wanted the Mac n Cheese but was just wanting to have the curry baguette bread as my "toast" since the Mac n Cheese comes with toast. When they finally realized what I was actually asking for, they then told me they couldn't do that. They only use the curry baguette for the Shrimp Melt sandwich. So then I chose sourdough to go with my Adult Mac n Cheese. It was very noisy in the shop this time. The noise level really turned off my mom. She ate up just a bit of scone, left the rest, didn't even finish her tea and then left to go walk in the IGA supermarket nearby just to escape the noise. My daughter and I finished up as quickly as we could so that we could go join my mother in the supermarket. I left first and when my daughter came to find us in the supermarket she said the people at The Bakehouse gave us a bag with 3 cookies in it for free, as a token gift for the troubles we went through in having 2 of our orders mixed up that day. I ate one of the cookies later in the day. It seemed like some kind of shortbread cookie with frosting sandwiched between it. Too sweet for my taste but I very much appreciated the gesture. I think it shows very good customer service. Don't think we'll go back there with my mother again as we'd rather not risk subjecting her to the extreme noise level again. My daughter and I would happily come back together though as we love the food there, and were very impressed with the service. Yes, they botched up our orders but how a restaurant redeems themself from a mistake says just as much about an establishment as not making a mistake in the first place. Impressed with the recovery they made, so in spite of the mistakes...still giving them a good rating!
