We had a reservation right at opening with a party of 10 for a birthday brunch. We tried to order cocktails but were told they didn't have any of the ingredients available until dinner. We opted to order classic cocktails like a mojito but they did not have any mint available. When it came for food, we were told any of the popular items (with a fire symbol on it) would not come out for an additional hour. it was a little chilly, but the table we were at.. had a broken heat lamp. The service was a little slow but it seemed as though our server was the only staff for the entire restaurant because by the time our server got around to placing our order, an hour had already passed. We ordered espresso martinis and margaritas and our server had to jump back behind the counter to prepare them all so it may have been that they were short staffed that day. After placing our order, the entrees took an additional hour to come out... then noticed that kitchen had forgotten to provide sauce with our dishes. It was difficult to flag the server down as they were busy waiting on other tables due to being short staffed. The entire brunch took 3 hours total and by the end of it was when other servers had come in to help. Im not sure if it was a off day but it seems as though the restaurant was not ready for lunch/brunch service at all--lacking multiple ingredients or enough staff to wait tables. I can't believe that we haven't found this place before. We were looking for a spot that would have last minute reservations available for a Sunday night. I love Mediterranean food, so when this popped up as being available nearby, I was very intrigued. I did miss the whole Hookah part, and I was a little bit worried when we arrived and saw a few tables partaking. I didn't want to be overwhelmed by smoke. What I didn't realize is that this entire location is a giant outside patio. We had zero issues with any of the tables around us who were doing hookah. The patio area is beautiful. They have it nicely decorated with greenery, lights and plenty of heaters for whenever California decides to actually have winter weather. Drinks were poured well and arrived in beautiful glasses. We started with the feta cheese platter that came with fresh tomatoes, feta, olives and cucumbers and we also shared the Soujoukh with Hummus. Both of these dishes were flavorful and fresh. I had the chicken combo plate with a salad and a side of the grilled eggplant. I think everyone at the table ordered a different variation of the kabob plates and everyone loved their choices. The kabobs were cooked fresh, the garlic sauce was spicy with garlic flavor and the eggplant was also roasted perfectly. If you're looking for a nice restaurant that's open past 10 on a Monday then you found your place at Olive & Grill. If you like/love Mediterranean food then you truly don't need to look any further. We were looking for a place to grab a late meal without sacrificing quality and a great vibe. Luckily they are open until midnight. I was happy with the quality of the food and drinks. The hot appetizers were very good. For the entrees we got the combo beef plate and the beef shawarma. Both were very good. The menu is extensive for Mediterranean food and I was quite impressed with the atmosphere. I can see this place being a hit in the summer time. It was chilly the night we went and we had to change tables to get away from the draft behind us and in front of a closer heater. When we changed seats all was well. I love this outdoor patio! When it comes to appetizers, I simply can't resist their menu. I have a few favorites though, like the Boba Ghanuj, Mantee, and Cheese Borek. They are absolutely delicious! As for the main course, I usually go for the fillet mignon kabob. However, this time I decided to try the chicken kabob, and boy was it a fantastic choice! It was so juicy and flavorful that I think it might just become my new favorite main dish. Yum! The only downside for me is the loud music. It can make it quite challenging to hold a conversation without raising your voice. But the lively and fun atmosphere makes up for it. Such a nice out door restaurant that with the decor lights and surrounding greenery seems like your in a nice Las Vegas restaurant. Bad service. Food was normal (not bad, not amazing, just normal). Business model is horrible. First part of the horrible experience. We asked for waters all around till we decide what we're having for cocktails. The waitresses reaction to us asking for regular water made all of us feel uncomfortable. Every cup she would fill, she would mention "tap water?" Imagine hearing that eight times for every cup she was going to fill. We had to ask her to double check that the water was filtered and safe to drink and she said of course. If yes, then why mention it 8 times? Then when we ordered our drinks, again the upselling continued on the type of alcohol we wanted in the drink. (I completely understand if this is a 5 Star restaurant, had amazing customer service and beautiful ambiance, but it's very far from it). Our entire time there, the waitress didn't once come around to fill our cups. We sat there without water for 30 minutes and I had to get up and get the pitcher and start pouring everyone water. Just ridiculous. Then when the bill comes we see an automatic charge of 18%, which of course I assumed was the mandatory gratuity for parties of 8 or more. Although she didn't deserve 18%, I was okay with this. Then she tells us that this 18% is not gratuity, it's a "Production bla bla bla fee." She only gets a small percentage of this and we have an option to leave her a tip. I asked her to clarify what this 18% fee is and she mentioned it's for parties larger than 6 people and it goes to the owners, rest of the staff and other fees. She only gets a small percentage. Again if this was some kind of High End 5 Star Restaurant with world class service, sure....lets pay an extra 40% on a $550.00 bill. But service is the worst I've seen, food is so so, no fans or ventilation and no attention to the simplest of details. I would never go back to this place nor would I allow someone who is considering going her go there. (Note to owners: if you want to charge Rodeo Drive prices, consider upping your service to Rodeo Drive service. Have your waitress ask the customer if they want water without mentioning its "tap." If a customer wants bottled water, they'll ask you to take the tap water back and brink bottled water. Don't make yourself a drink at the bar right in front of the customers when you haven't offered them a drink. Don't seem disappointed when you're upselling service and the customer doesn't go for it. Just show your customer good service). We should have read the reviews before going. Completely our fault. Horrible experience that cost $640.00 (7 people). read more

Have you traveled to the Mediterranean countries and experienced the blue waters, historic architecture and lush flora and fauna? Did you watch the olive branches sway against the skies while enjoying delicious food and wine? No? Don't worry - neither have I. Luckily for us, we reside in one of the only regions in the world that experience what scientists classify as a 'Mediterranean Climate' (described as that of warm, dry summers, strong wind systems and cold winters with heavy rain precipitation); and in a city with bounty of Mediterranean  restaurants/eateries. So, we can just pretend we are overseas, right?! One of these escapes to the Mediterranean can be felt at the Valley's very own, Olive & Grill. Olive & Grill is nestled on Ventura in between the Laurel Canyon and Whitsett intersections in the heart of Studio City/Sherman Oaks border. Don't be confused by the Zeytuna signage on the front of the building (this is Olive & Grill's venue and event space) and enter from the side adjacent to the parking garage structure (not expensive - it only set us back $1.80). The aim of Olive & Grill is to offer a Mediterranean experience in an upscale and romantic setting but with welcoming arms - and it certainly does just that. My dining partner and I arrived for a 6:45 reservation on a Saturday to a lovely outdoor patio restaurant (there is no indoor dining which may be a negative to some but I found this endearing) with twinkling lights, a fireplace, couches, booths, tables and real olive trees. Olive & Grill makes a lovely impression and is "very LA" as we would say. Yet, it eschews a pretentious attitude that can commonly come from similar LA spots. We were seated near the bar and quickly approached by our waiter (whose name I sadly didn't grab but I tend to not pay attention to names). The menu at Olive & Grill claims to be a Lebanese focus but it boasts some traditional dishes and ingredients from neighboring countries including a heavy Armenian influence (much of the staff and patrons seemed to be Armenian and/or Russian-Armenian so this makes sense). Of course you will find kebabs, hummus, pita and shawarma but you can also seafood dishes, salads and ooh-la-la fancy cocktails. To begin the evening, we ordered a bottle of Tolentino Malbec wine ($45) and the Soujoukh w/Hummus appetizer (hummus topped with sautéed Armenian Soujoukh sausage and tomatoes - $14). The wine was absolutely fantastic but I am biased as Malbecs are my favorite and I haven't met a Malbec I don't appreciate. The Soujoukh w/Hummus was hummus elevated with a delicious smoked sausage that reminded me of those from my home country of Hungary atop creamy and refreshing hummus. The sausage was definitely the highlight and I could have eaten several more pieces of it. For our dinner, my dining partner ordered the Chicken Shawarma (served with pickles, pita, rice and substituted rice for French fries - $24) while I chose the Filet Mignon kebabs (5 pieces with red dipping sauce, tomato, sliced onion and I substituted the rice for a half side of Fatoosh salad - $28). Being Celiac I requested to not have pita on my plate (remember this, momentarily). The meals arrived rather quickly and were beautiful in color and design. My filet mignon pieces were large-and-and in charge with Olive & Grill certainly not skimping. I asked for a medium preparation and it seemed over that but regardless it was absolutely delicious and seasoned perfectly. The fatoosh salad was DIVINE with Persian cucumbers, orange bell peppers, tomatoes and divine dressing. My only complaint? My steak sat on pita which I specifically asked to omit per my Celiac. I don't react to cross-contamination and only consumption, luckily (obviously as the fatoosh salad has pita croutons) but this mistake is a HUGE no-no and someone else with Celiac would have sent the plate back. This is an important detail that needs to paid attention to in the future. My dining partner's Chicken Shawarma was also tasty with some of the tenderest chicken you'll taste and a huge serving of French fries. Although both dishes were great; they weren't mind-blowing orgasmic but definitely a win. As the night progressed, a belly dancer joined the mix and danced among the diners complete with various swords. Hookah is also available and was enjoyed by many. I wish I could remember the server's name as the young man was professional but friendly, attentive and smiled at me often. He did a great job. Olive & Grill is A+ in its Mediterranean ambiance, customer service and offers delicious food (albeit, slightly pricey) and a must-try in the Valley if you can't travel first-hand to that part of the world. I would recommend it as a date spot as it is very impressive when trying to charm (at least, it worked on me!). Although not perfect - may I remind of the Celiac-pita kerfuffle) - Olive & Grill should most certainly be added to your list of places to try. read more

As the host of the party I was expecting for the prices to be very high but for the most part the average was around $30 which isn't bad for the portions and authenticity. We had a good server named Baglan. He always made sure we had enough water and noticed when we needed help. He even noticed that the belly dancer had not visited our table yet and asked if she could pay us a visit. Thanks to that we had fun and I got the information I needed for my essay! We had dinner reservations and everyone had a great experience, service, the food, ambience and entertainment. There's valet parking available,the decor adds to the ambiance and ample seating arrangements for small and large parties. We opted to have front seats by the fireplace and entertainment. We chose a variety of appetizers and the portions were shareable. I was able to see the entree platters and the portions were quite large. For drinks we had their cocktail specialties, and only the downside was they were sold out of a few items for the drinks we requested but still managed to work around it with great service and provide alternative options. We were here for a Sunday lunch as we happened to be in the area. We almost didn't go here because of the reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. The place was charming, with comfortable oversized booths and olive trees. It wasn't busy, so service was good and the food arrived quickly. Their baba ganoush was delicious, although there wasn't a lot of pita served with it. I had the beef combo plate with filet mignon and beef lula. It's disappointing to see a leader set such a poor example for their staff. The beauty of LA is that there are a lot of alternative options who kindly want your business and welcome a good dining experience.
