Visited for Valentine's Day dinner, and had a lovely experience! Service is exceptional. We were half an hour early for our reservation but the host graciously seated us right away. All tables received a single rose which I thought was a beautiful touch. Our waiter was attentive and helpful as we perused the menu, providing recommendations proactively and answering our questions. The cocktail list is extensive but I was surprised to see all cocktails were whiskey based. Would be great to see some variety of spirit choices here. We ordered the Honey I'm Home and the Bramble On. The Bramble On was fantastic and memorable! We ordered the pork meatballs for appetizer - these were fantastic! Highly recommend. Love how they incorporated fig into the dish for just a hint of sweetness. The meat was tender and the sauce is bursting with flavor. For mains, my husband ordered the capellini (pesto pasta with crab), and I ordered the bucatini all'amatriciana. The capellini was delightful - the pesto tasted fresh and delicious with a nice crunch from the pine nuts. Good quality crab as well. My bucatini was pretty good but a tad too heavy. We went out for a dinner with a couple of friends at Olive & JUNE and the overall experience was amazing! They have the best outdoors for evening/night time, in my opinion! It looks magical like you're at a wedding party or holiday gathering. I just love the vibes and their food was exquisite. AMBIENCE/LOCATION: This restaurant is hidden on 35th St. Their indoor space is quite small but they have an outdoors that is wonderfully decorated with lighting and it's covered so you're protected from rain or cold wind. We went there when it was cold and we were seated outdoors where they have decorative lights like the holidays and the space was closed off with fancy clear plastic tents protecting you from the wind/cold air with commercial outdoor heaters. I was setting close to the heater and I was so comfortable all night. The lights are dim and romantic if you're on a date it's magical, or like a holiday gathering if you're with friends or family (Note: it's not a suitable place to bring younger children in my opinion). FOOD: We ordered drinks and appetizers to start off and let me tell you their cocktails were SO good (I had to order a second glass ). Their flavor profiles were quite creative and the overall food was exceptional. SERVICE: Our server was friendly and attentive and even though it was packed that day, we didn't have to wait long for our food. I was shocked by how much money so little food could cost at Olive & June. For $26, you can buy yourself six entire pieces of ravioli--yes, that's all I got. As you can see in the photo below, the portion was unbelievably small. I actually felt hungrier after finishing the dish than before I started. I can't believe they would charge so much for such a tiny amount of food. To add to the overall disappointment, the food was mediocre, the service was slow, and we had to sit outside in 107 degrees. Given the high prices, tiny portions, and lackluster service, I would strongly urge you to go anywhere else. Went here for an impromptu date night on a Saturday. Wasn't sure what to expect but we easily made a reservation a couple hours before. The place is lit up real pretty though I'm not sure if that's always the case or if it's just leftover from the holidays. We shared a beet salad which was huge and the tagliatelle. The beet salad was nice and light, definitely more fulfilling than I'd expect. Tagliatelle was also good with the full shrimps. With the complimentary bread served, we even had some leftovers. The ricotta and olive oil spread that came with the bread was also really good! Only awkward thing of the night was that their system was down, so we just got a written receipt. Had a reservation for 8 on a Thursday night. Arrived on time. Took about 5 minutes for the server to bring water and introduce herself. Bread was brought to the table. Another 15 minutes pass and we have to try and grab her attention as she passes by serving other tables to order. Another 40 minutes pass and they bring another plate of bread and explain "it'll just be a little longer." It's been an hour since our reservation (we had two littles in high chairs, so, at some point bed time does become an issue). We let them know we'll need to leave for an airport pickup within the hour and they discuss with the chef, inform us it'll be another 10 minutes. When the food does come out, it's lackluster at best. Two of our party ordered the pappardelle, two ordered the cappellini, and two ordered the bucatini. One party member immediately stopped eating because the pasta was so overcooked the bucatini was burst and mushy. Can't say I tasted it so I don't know how bad it was. My pistachio-mint pesto cappellini with lump crab meat and crab claws was unpleasant. The flavor combo on the menu promised more but was just unappetizing. I can't say I found any lump crab meat, but I did find a hair in my dish! The one kids dish we ordered was the buttered penne with meatballs. The texture of the meatball was gummy and it was heavily salted--we felt badly for chastising the children once we sampled it. The manager was evidently frustrated. We were not the only family table waiting over an hour for our food, and apparently the manager was not so sympathetic to the other guests (the guests made decent small talk with us as we tried to sort out and lightly commiserate). By the time we left they still had not gotten their food. They did comp the one meal that was returned. I didn't even point out the hair in my dish, and we just left the two plates unfinished. Maybe we caught Olive and June on a bad night. The menu sounded like it could've been a great meal. The staff told us they had 2-3 other private events going on other levels... maybe the restaurant was just understaffed for the evening. read more

We had dinner here for the first time for our 20th Anniversary. It's a nice little place, right off Mopac with "complimentary" valet parking. There aren't a lot of things on the menu but it's obvious everything is very well thought out. We had a marvelous young server, Aiden. He answered a few questions. My wife had a glass of wine. We ordered two different seafood dishes to share. We got some very nice, fresh bread with seasoned butter. The first dish was seared scallops. They were cooked perfectly with quite a few different herbs and veggies. We each had 3-1/2 marvelous tasting scallops. The second dish was a crab pesto pistachio pasta. dish. Two beautiful (and delicious) blue crab claws (with the shell removed and meat exposed). This dish was perfect too. Just the right mix of flavors and they went together perfectly. We were "convinced" to try a free dessert for our anniversary. They brought out some fabulous vanilla custard with shaved hibiscus ice on top. Again, the flavors mixed perfectly. All-in-all a terrific experience for a special occasion. The place is nice, very comfortable feeling. We were seated at a booth but I would love to eat on their patio when the temperature is cooler. The food and wine here are top tier for Italian in Austin. For apps we had the meatballs, fritto misto, and Cesar. My main was the pappardelle, and it was delicious. A friend ordered the tagliatelle, and barely ate any- it was not very appetizing. Service here is always hit or miss. We have been several times and it always starts out quick/attentive but as the restaurant fills up I think they stretch their waitstaff pretty thin. We waited 20 mins for the check. They gave complimentary bread and we ordered the lemon polenta as an appetizer and I LOVED it. The pork chop was great, it was crispy on the outside and super tender on the inside. In my opinion, I thought it was a really balanced meal and I liked it better than the linguine I ordered. The linguine sauce was great. The crab leg was an extra $20 and just tasted like regular crab. Would not recommend that add-on unless you're into splurging for it. I'm not a fan of large shrimp so the tiny shrimp were perfect for me, but some people wouldn't be super pleased with them. My boyfriend liked the linguine better than the pork he ordered, but he prefers decadent meals. The roasted carrots were pretty good. They're charred, there's a little bit of acidity from the sumac, nuttiness from the pine nuts, and freshness from the mint. Pretty solid side. read more

The meatballs were seasoned well and sauced well. I liked the meatballs sauce better than the bucatini sauce. But the bucatini noodles were nice and al dente - this dish also had a kick to it that paired well with the tomato tartness. The ravioli was good but needed some sauce to make it less dry. The corn and truffle risotto tasted great but was more of a porridge than risotto because the rice was mushy. But great flavors! Lastly, I also tried their plum cheesecake. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the experience here. My wife, I and two friends went for dinner last night and we were extremely disappointed with the service while the food was just ok at best. Our waitress was either overly busy or just inattentive with the initial greet to first (and only) round of drinks taking 25 plus minutes to arrive. We placed our order for drinks/appetizers/and entrees all at the same time since we were worried about how long things were taking. This is never a good sign. When the appetizers arrived (meatballs and crudo) the food runner made a snarky face when one of our friends asked my wife what the crudo was as she had never had it. Instead of taking the time to to describe the dish with enthusiasm-he made a shocked face and rolled his eyes. Not a good moment for the restaurant in my opinion. In the end the flavor of the apps were fine, just nothing to write home about. Shortly thereafter the entrees came: Parppardelle and the Tagliatelle. Again, not great but not bad. However, as the waitress came back to check on us after our first few bites she announced that the "Bartender has announced last call. Can I get you anything else?" 8:59pm on a Friday night..... Yes their posted hours are until 9pm but that means they stop accepting tables, not that they stop servicing the ones that are already there. To say that any sense of ambiance that existed up to that point was flushed down the toilet with this announcement is an understatement. It was just further underscored when a few minutes later she started pre-bussing tables around us with her nice sweater that she had been wearing removed, and her now sporting a black ripped Nirvana t-shirt. The message was clear: time for us to leave. I've eaten at Olive and June before the Pandemic. It was nothing like this experience. For the last 2 years I've been willing to cut some slack for restaurants and staff because of the unprecedented challenges they've faced, but no more. There's no excuse for it. Save your money for somewhere else. PS. I spent 20 years in the hospitality industry and I'm more than fair minded. I tip 20% for adequate service. The selections for restaurant week included dishes that are usually on their menu and some that are only available for the week. The burrata salad was fresh and the Caesar salad portion was huge. The squash risotto was okay (the texture was slightly mushy) but the oyster mushrooms were divine. For me, the star of the meal was absolutely the dessert. The cheesecake was perfectly light and complemented the tart sauce. The mousse was so good I was scooping every last bit, and it paired really well with the sweetened plum and blackberries. read more

As we're still dealing with COVID this place handled it well with plenty of spaced out seating outdoors and heaters for those chilly evenings. As far as food everything was great that I tried from the Caesar salad as an app to the beef ravioli as an entree to the spiced apple bombolini which was so delicious I didn't even have time to take a picture before I finished it! I will say the portions are not huge and the menu can be a bit limited but I think you can't go wrong with trying anything here. There were 7 of us including my son and his fiance and we were all excited to see the 3rd floor space and try the food as a possible rehearsal dinner location. We were told when we checked in that someone would come to our table at the end of our meal to escort us to the 3rd floor to see everything but this never happened. To say that our service was poor that night would be a vast understatement. It took over 30 minutes to receive our initial drinks we ordered once we were seated. My son's duck was served raw and had to be sent back. My son's fiance's mom had to wait an additional 10 minutes from our entrees being served for hers to arrive as it appears her order was left off. Our server seemed flustered and unapologetic about the length of time everything was taking. At the conclusion of our dinner, we were the only people remaining in the restaurant and again, no one ever came to our table to talk with us about the event space. Furthermore, we questioned the automatically charged Employee Wellness tax that was included on our bill (along with the mandatory 20% gratuity since our party was over 6 people despite the fact that our service was deplorable) and our server wasn't sure what it was and had to go ask someone and then came back to say it covers their health insurance. We would not be pleased to have to pay a tax on an expensive rehearsal dinner for 50 people to cover the health insurance of the restaurant employees. In conclusion, the entire experience was shockingly bad and it was clear that no one was interested in any further business from us. read more

I was enjoying my nice Italian dinner when all of a sudden - I found a pearl in my clams! I couldn't believe it. What a rare opportunity. Did you know the odds of that are 1 in 10,000? Anyways, let's rewind a bit. What I got to eat for dinner was the: - Linguine alla Vongale: little neck clams, roasted broccoli, poached tomato and a pearl as the secret ingredient lol. What's cool about this experience as well is that this was my first time trying clams! I found this dish to be very light. Refreshing. A good contrast to the next one I had. - Mezzaluna: filled with butternut squash, topped with a cherry mostarda and amaretto cheese crumble. I enjoyed the array of flavors and textures here from: nutty to sweet, from soft to chewy. My favorite dish! - NY Strip: take the steak, top it off with gorgonzola cheese, and serve it with a side of golden zucchini and shishito peppers. A very hardy, rich dish in many ways: from the beef, from the butter, from the cheese. Great variation on a classic dish! All in all, I'm impressed with the culinary makeup of the food. Albeit, I find the portion sizes a bit smaller than I'd like and I think the ambiance of the restaurant leaves more to be desired too, although I don't feel too strongly about those subjects to say it took from the overall experience. Good food, good service, nice atmosphere. 2nd visit...food was bland, server was rude, we were set next to a big group of loud, vulgar, twenty somethings. This place has been on my list prior to it becoming Olive & June, I'm renaming it as many do the "tree" restaurant. There's a enormous tree that this 3 story restaurant is built on. Me being the klutz I am stumble into the restaurant on the 2nd floor where there's a nice little patio leading into the space. There's a bar upstairs and some seating up top, the 1st floor is where you want to be, decorated with cute little booths and the kitchen with a glass window for viewing. Girls nights are the best nights cause we share food, family style! The risotto was so memorable for my friend and that's kind of why we came along with the fact that during happy hour the entire menu except for specials and wine is half off (sounds like a scam...right?). It's the most comprehensive happy hour I've had, cocktails change with the seasons, and food is periodically changing also. We started with the pork meatballs as well as the arancini balls, they were both super flavorful. Up next was the duck crespele and also the striped bass crudo, we didn't know how to eat the crespele so we ended up making them into tacos. The last course before dessert was the seared trout as well as the mussels pasta and risotto, all the dishes were simplistic and had some good flavors. We all ended the night with a tiramisu, which was super interesting...it had a mascarpone shell that you had to crack in order to get to the prize!
