I generally tend to write reviews for a place I've visited multiple times. The reasons, for that are, well they could suck the first time, and get better next time. And well I hate updating my reviews because I am lazy. After going here almost every Friday, and maybe more, for the past couple of months, I must say I am a fan. Everyone I take there, becomes a fan of them and me. Win-Win? Well there is a third and fourth win to this. The drinks and the food. So Win-Win-Win-Win!!!! Happy hour is filled with awesomesauce. They have created some of the most refreshing, yet strong drinks I have ever had. Try the tempestosa. That's my favourite. Ginger beer, lime juice, and averno amaro. Perfect on hot, sunny afternoon. The foreigner is piece of genius! Cucumber puree with other stuff that will make you feel like you were in a spa! The Manhattan's are strong, stiff and won't make you feel like you got hit by a car the next morning. The tiramisu martini. Well its pretty much liquid tiramisu, spiked. The bites are even better. The supli, is saffron risotto, deep fried. I know we are in Texas, and we deep fry everything here, but this is actually delicious!! The crostini's are fabulous. Very flavorful, with all the ingredients mixing in well to create a party in the mouth. Now time to add a fifth win. The people. Hostess are always nice and smiling. Not to mention beautiful!!! The servers and bartenders are very friendly, and always a blast to talk with. Will make the best drinks and serve the food promptly. Another shout out to Melissa, Adam and Schaffer. You guys rock! MIght add the fact that they are very accommodating to vegetarians and will make most things vegetarian on request, by either removing the meat, or substituting it with something else that is vegetarian. Im perplexed by Olive and June to say the least. The food's a 5 but the lack of availablity makes it a 4. I'd first off say, if you want to try it, just get a reservation. Without fail, whether you try to come in on a Tuesday at 5:30pm or a Monday at 8:30pm there will be an inexplicably long wait. You might scan the tables, wondering how the 10 people in the restaurant could constitute such a wait, but it's beyond comprehension. Aside from that, the menu's great and there's a really nice variety of light and heavy dishes. I hope they stay in business despite their light throughput. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for the first time with a big group for a friends birthday. Because our group was large (approximately 20 people), we were seated in a private room that is off the kitchen. Although that may seem odd, it was actually a very cute room with it's own private patio (for the smokers in the group). The room fit us comfortably, the only problem was the acoustics. It was so loud in there with everyone talking that it actually kind of hurt mine and my boyfriends ears. The rest of the restaurant had a very nice atmosphere in both looks and feeling, replete with a great outdoor seating area. The whole place reminded me of something out of a 1950s chic movie...it was pretty cool. The menu was pretty extensive, and they had a small clipping attached with the specials. The server told us that everything is basically served family style, i.e. set out for everyone to enjoy, but the portions are small. Although I wasn't too happy about this (sharing small plates with 20 people then trying to figure out the bill is not an easy thing), it ended up being much simpler than initially thought. While we did share food, the server was good about giving each plate to the person who ordered it. Prices are high here, but we knew that going into it. The plates all looked delicious when they were served. My boyfriend and I started with the Frita Mista salad (fried seafood, basically). It looked delicious and was a generous portion, unfortunately it was COVERED in salt. It tasted like the chef dumped the salt shaker on top once it was finished cooking. The salt was definitely not mixed in with the batter as you could see individual grains resting on the plate. In spite of this, we ate the food and luckily the pieces on the bottom were saved from the salt bath. For our meals, I ordered the gnocchi special and my boyfriend ordered a salad with chicken (the chicken was extra and literally cost as much as the salad). His was good, but it's hard to mess up chicken salad. Mine was ok. The gnocchi, homemade I might add, came out in a row of 6 or 7 pieces on a rectangular plate. I must say that I've never seen gnocchi served this way before, but ok, we were at a hip restaurant so I figured, what the hell. Unfortunately it was completely bland. Literally just tasted like dough. I was disappointed, mostly for the price we were paying for it. We were able to try some of the things our friends ordered, including sauteed peppers (which were actually quite delicious), the watermelon mozzarella concoction (which was spicy but good), and the meatballs (which were also bland and not very flavorful). Another friend ordered a seafood (clam, I think) pasta for dinner and it was also just ok. I will say that one of our friends ordered a couple of desserts and passed them around and they were quite delicious. The cheesecake and a peanut butter chocolate something. All in all, the experience and ambiance were really great, but the food was not worth the $75 bill that we had. Oh and the server did a good job too. read more

We had a wonderful group dinner this Saturday in the private room (Chef's Table). If there is an occasion to get 14 friends together to eat and have fun, this would be worth it. The room is located to thru the kitchen and to the left side. It is nicely hidden away. The room is just the perfect size and everyone can be involve in the conservation without feeling too far away. See pictures. On this evening, the food was very consistent and well executed. The service was attentive. My theory with service here is to not sit on the patio and always opt for inside. For some reason, I have never had the best experience/service when sitting outside on the 1st level under the trees, although it is my favorite place. FOOD: The best side dish ever is the Crispy Acorn Squash, which has parsley, chive, shallot, garlic, pumpkin seeds. The squash is grilled and then battered in tempura and fried. The best pasta for the night was the pappardelle paste with lamb and mint sauce. I can't describe it. It was just really savory and suites this Fall weather well. One of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in Austin. Limited menu due to the pandemic BS. The appetizer was acceptable but our entrees were not. My pasta (described as a crab pasta with wine wine and butter sauce) was dry and for some reason had corn when this was not listed as an ingredient in the description and the crab was fishy. I barely touched it and should have requested it be taken off my bill. My friend's pasta was dry and tasted like fast food grade fare. I ordered dessert thinking they couldn't possibly ruin white cake with cream cheese frosting but alas this was dry too and tasted stale and old. Fortunately, this was taken off the bill. In addition, their wine selection is limited especially if you want to order by the glass and I wasn't pleased with either of my selections. I walked out spending $55 bucks and came home hungry and dissatisfied. read more

First time trying out this highly rated restaurant to Celebrate a Birthday. Called ahead and Requested the best table on the patio for the celebration. Was placed in a corner by the servers station and the waiter was extremely slowwwwwwwww! Salads took 45 mins to come out, the main entree was not all that good. We received very little attention from the server and the whole experience was a disappointment!!! read more

I have been here once for happy hour food and bevs and once for a private party on the third floor and both times was impressed. They have valet parking available, but I found street parking not too far away. Lots of beautiful outdoor space, and the staff even offered bug spray once when I needed it out in the patio. Their bread and whipped butter is awesome, meatballs are tasty, and the arancini is divine. The party space on the third floor was really great too. Very good neighborhood place, I'd love to return, hopefully before it's too hot to enjoy the patio. read more

Happy Hour makes me so HAPPY! Half off Anti-pastis and Cocktails. Seriously, what could be better? For anti-pastis, my friend and I shared the farm egg (poached egg atop creamy polenta and mushrooms), the seafood fritto misto, zucchini involtini (zucchini strips rolled around eggplant with mushrooms, pinenuts, and raisins), and two suppli (fried risotto). Usually, appetizer portions are tiny, but these were huge portions. After only 4 things, we were STUFFED! My favorite was the Zucchini Involitini and the Suppli. I would definitely recommend those! The farm egg was O-kay... It lacked any flavor to me and my friend. And now for the drinks! I started off with the Viola Fiori. Yum yum yum! My friend ordered the real winner though... Tempestosa!!! Olive and June is just a really cool place. It feels like a house that grew out to encompass a huge live oak and then sprouted out an oversized covered front porch. At night, the lights in the trees around it give the whole place a very treehouse-like feel. Combine all of that with very good modern Italian and you have a winning recipe. We went out to dinner here on a night where we'd planned a date night downtown before remembering that south by southwest was going on and that we really wanted nothing to do with downtown. We were a little bummed at first, but this place cheered us up right quick. We started with the fried ravioli appetizer expecting it to be amazing, because really how could you go wrong with fried ravioli. They were good, but not as amazing as we'd hoped. They were just missing some extra flavor. Like the needed a sauce or a spice to take them the extra mile. Fortunately, the entrees were amazing and desert was even better. We got the gemeli with pork sausage and the whole wheat ravioli. The gameli was a small, twisty, chewy pasta with deliciously spiced bits of pork sausage all strewn in and arugula to break up the oiliness. The whole wheat ravioli was stunning with swiss chard, capers and a delicate cheese filling. Really, what I thought was just a health-nut option turned out to be the better of two great dishes. However, probably the best thing was the baked tea crema. It came out and was like a green tea flavored tiramisu without the cake with a slightly salty pistachio crumble on top and a smattering of oranges, pomegranate and chocolate cake mixed in. Despite that, the whole thing managed to not be overly sweet. To top it all off they had a very good selection of wine by the glass at reasonable prices. If you like dry reds, try the montepulciano d'abruzzo. read more

Nice casual neighborhood feel. Liked the multiple dining areas both inside and out. A pretty and relaxing setting. Little Italy cocktail was excellent. Farm egg appetizer surprisingly good. Frito misto also quite nice. I sampled several of the piccoli piatti while wife had a salad. All three I tried - grilled calamari, fried ravioli, fig spiedini - were each about 2 bite blasts of flavor. This was something I noticed about every one of the 7 dishes total I tried - all just bursting with flavor and all very different. Kudos to chef and kitchen for an excellent menu very well executed. Split a pasta - the mezzelune, which I understand to be a long time signature dish. Splitting it was the right way to go - after sharing several appetizers and a few piccoli piatti, a whole pasta or entree would have been way too much food, and with the kitchen so successfully turning out great flavors, it was a lot of fun trying more different things. I thought the mezzelune good but not great, but wife just raved about it - so I'm thinking perhaps chick dish. Ended with hazelnut crema. Actually more banana flavor than hazelnut but that's nit picking, it was superb. Half price happy hour is a steal as well. Really nice neighborhood joint. We'll be back. read more

Olive & June is probably one of my favorite restaurants that I've dined at. It's cozy, intimate, but bright enough that you're not struggling to read a menu or pondering what exactly is on your plate. My friend and I came (without reservations...you shouldn't do that) at around 8pm and had to wait for a table, which is sort of a testament to how much people like this place. Thankfully, you can order small plates at the bar, which kept us satiated until we got our table. Olive & June is textbook Italian: straight-up decadence. The farm egg is heavenly (albeit incredibly rich), and the pasta dishes are hearty and soothe the soul - I had the linguini, an interesting take on a classic dish. It's on the sweet side, yet still satisfying. Prices aren't exorbitant, but portion size does leave a little something to desire. I promise you, though: order the farm egg, and you'll have the easiest way to beef up your meal. The space at Olive & June is gorgeous, and I would come back solely just to dine in the beautiful ambience - shoutout to the servers who have to climb a million steps of stairs for us! I really really wanted to LOVE Olive & June, but I just liked it. We went for drinks and appetizers and had several different cocktails. I tried the Sicilian margarita (good) and the Cicero (great). For apps, we had the roasted cauliflower (not roasted enough for my liking, not a ton of flavor), the meatballs (these were very good, with an interesting use of figs) and the prosciutto & cheese platter--maybe I didn't read the item description close enough, but I was definitely expecting something different with this. We received about 4 very thin, very small pieces of parmesan and a couple of slices of prosciutto, then a bunch of raw veggies, a handful of almonds, mustard and some bread that was incredibly hard to bite into. It was a little disappointing, but like I said, I probably didn't read closely enough and was just expecting a more robust cheese board with lots more cheese, especially for the price. Overall, Olive & June is very pretty, the cocktails are good and some of their mains sounded delicious. I think it's a little expensive for what you get, but I could be convinced to give it another chance and now just know what not to order. read more

I looked Olive & June up on Yelp just now to remember what I had wrote in my review only to see I never gave them a review. Shame on me. I've been 3 times and am a big fan. 5 star decor/atmosphere - my favorite part, especially the outside seating on the upper level right next to the big tree. I like how this place is fairly tucked away too and you can drive right by it without knowing such a great restaurant is even there. 4 star service - Everyone is really nice and accommodating including the cooks. I remember one time ordering the Eggplant Involtini and the eggplant was super tough (a big eggplant no no). I politely informed our server of this. She returned a few minutes later saying "the chef said you were right and he sincerely apologizes, we will redo it for you right away and please try this dish on us while you wait." It was the House Mozzarella and it was pretty darn good too. When the eggplant came back it was much better. 3-4 star food - I really like their Seafood Fritto Misto. Some bites are better than others, but as a whole it's really good. They had a great cheese plate too. I've also tried a few of their pasta dishes and one of their risottos. All were good to great. Of the ones I've tried, the Rigatoni is excellent and the sauce has great depth of flavor. I'm a harsh critic of Italian restaurants. There is such an abundance of over priced bad Italian restaurants out there, that I rarely eat Italian food outside of my home, my Italian friends' homes, Italy or the restaurants I already know have great Italian food. I'm glad I gave Olive & June a shot. And while I can't say it's the best Italian food I've had, they do a pretty good job in a beautiful atmosphere ,with really nice service. Olive and June is the cutest, little restaurant. I've only been there during their happy hour (because that's the only time I can really afford it), but it's always been great. My favorite thing about this restaurant is that there is something new on the menu every time I visit. They are constantly changing their appetizers and drinks, so it's always a new experience. One thing that has remained constant is their fresh mozzarella. Although they may change the appearance and the complimentary tastes to it (last time it had caramelized onions and this time it had citrus and radish flavors), it is always delicious! I highly recommend trying their mozzarella appetizer! The wait staff is professional and friendly and do their best to answer questions. Ah, another week and another massive cheat meal. Here we go! I freaking like this place. The patio and restaurant decor/environment is cute and cozy. Onto the food and there was a lot! (No, I didn't eat all this myself) Antipasti Arancino - Fabulous! Can't go wrong with a fried ball of rice and cheese. But a little pricey for 1. Crudo - Decent. The dish was a little bland, but the fish was fresh. That's the only good thing I can say about the dish... unfortunately. Farm egg - THIS! GET THIS! The slow cooked egg and the creamy polenta just mixed and blended together so well. This dish was wonderful! House mozzarella - Fantastic! Nothing too crazy with this dish in terms of extra components, but the mozzarella was fabulous! One of the best mozzarellas I've had in Austin. Romaine salad with date vinaigrette and okra parmigiana (from Sunday only menu) - Also fabulous! Salad was surprisingly delightful. I wasn't sure what to expect from the okra parmigiana, but it was impressive. Main courses Ravioli with a bunch of stuff (Sunday only menu) - Great! Light, flavorful, and all things wonderful. Braised beef cheeks (Sunday only menu) - Good flavor but definitely not as good the other dishes. Meat was cooked wonderfully though. Bucatini amatriciana - Like the braised beef cheeks. Good dish but not one of my favorites. Cavatelli - Not a fan of this. I totally didn't get this dish. The combination of all the flavors tasted weird to me. Grilled chicken - Also not a fan. The chicken was cooked well, but the flavors weren't that good. The dish wasn't bad; it just wasn't that good. Pan seared bass - Pretty darn great. Fish was cooked really well--crispy skin and moist meat. The charred corn sauce was light and... corny? It was good! The desserts sounded really good but didn't taste as good as they sounded. We had the bruleed lemon tart, peach semifreddo, and white chocolate bombolini. The semifreddo and white chocolate bombolini were good. The lemon tart was good too, but the crust was a tad too thick. Or if there were more custard to balance the thicker crust. Most of the food was great but a tad pricey. I'd definitely come back, and their Sunday special menu (3 courses for $29) was fantastic value. read more

Boy has this restaurant changed. I have to leave a review like this as a business owner myself I know it impacts the business but it was a really negative experience. Considering it was Mother's Day as well. We were 15 minutes early and we had reservations to sit outside and my kiddos really wanted to sit down so we sat down at a table until they attended to us. TWO minutes before the reservation a lady walked up and very snotty said this is not a waiting area and to get up. We got up and then we were then redirected right back to that same area and sat down. The full course meal was $65 per person. Our total bill was $200 for very little. The fruit bowl was those little del monte in a cup fruit with some grapes and watermelon on top to make it look nice. The menu said muffins for two. We got ONE muffin and we had to split it in half. My eggs Benedict was liquid. It was like egg drop soup. Abs for Mother's Day- not one staff even said Happy Mother's Day. The vibe was definitely off. I don't think we will be returning sadly. I got here for HH on a Tuesday night at 6:00pm with no wait. There patio upstairs is beautiful view. 1/2 off on some of their menu + all drinks except wine. 1/2 off menu: Seafood Fritto Misto: good shrimp, squid but fish tasted funny Pork meatballs, La Quercia Prosciutto were good. Mixed Drink: Foreigner tasted light and refreshing...but it was strong because it snuck up on me at the end! Non HH menu: Crispy eggplant were not crispy and I thought the olives did not go well with the eggplant. Farm egg, polenta...delicious and favorite dish! Service was kind of slow. Another stellar experience, yet again. 1) Pork Belly - DELISH! And it was half off during Happy Hour. 2) Steak Tartare - not your typical classic tartare dish but it was interesting enough for me to take a liking to it. chopped up steak with capers and quail eggs? YES PLEASE! 3) Spring Risotto - you better come hungry with an empty stomach bc this dish is filler and full of decadence. The creamy texture and perfectly cooked rice was perfect. The proscuitto and asparagas just finished it off with a delightful savory finish. 4) Grilled Rabbit - TENDER TENDER TASTY TENDER. I think that says enough. Cute place. Wonderful time. Save your money and travel down to any other place downtown or south of the river. The front of house and service were atrocious! We waited several minutes upon arriving for anyone to arrive at the host stand; a pile of us trying to figure out if we were indeed in the right place. When someone finally appeared, we were told that our table wasn't ready and we could wait at the upstairs bar. 10 minutes after our reservation time , our table was finally ready. We were told our drinks would be sent down to us. After being seated, it took another 10 mins and two additional requests to finally get our cocktails. OK, "So they're having an off night", I thought to myself. I'm sure service would surely improve and it did, for the appetizers and then back to the disjointed, awful experience we had come to know. At the end of the night, our waitress left us sitting outside for 30 minutes without checking in. The food was good but definitely not worth the price tag or experience. We had a 6 pm reservation and saw the tomahawk pork chop special and were instantly sold. We were notified there was only one left (? Reminder we were there for our 6pm reservation). We placed our order for the final chop and found out it was sold out. So, we ordered the Monkfish (I will remind you monkfish is referred to as "poor man's lobster"). Well, maybe more like 2.5 stars. But the negative reviews here are not off the mark. First, yes, service is pretty slow. We had a bungle of waiters in the beginning; at the end, the waiter forgot my mother in law's tea. The bread basket, which had been begged for, came late and was very sparse. Despite the warm ambiance throughout the multi-level venue, we were stuck upstairs in what looked to be a tired Italian joint circa the 1980s. It was a bit deserted. But all of that could have been forgiven if the food was good. It really wasn't. We had several courses, and while some were OK (and I do mean just ok), there were a lot of blunders. The meatballs were cold. Seriously. That's not only gross, it's a potential foodborne illness hazard. The burrata ended up being like some sort of misguided apple pie. Really: A tiny bit of burrata came on this apple tart thing. No bread or anything to smear the burrata on. It would have been passable as a dessert. I guess they were going for a brie en croute sort of thing? It didn't work. My son's chicken was rubbery. As in, this protein is either overcooked, past its prime, or some dreadful combination of both. My snapper was OK--again, lukewarm, but at least with a nice skin crust up top. Problem was the mangle of barely cooked, over-oiled kale it sat on, which was much too large and really reminiscent of something I would have made in my early experiments as a novice home cook. I know the food looks good in the pictures. Don't be duped: Maybe we had a bad experience, but there are far too many nice restaurants in Austin and Olive and June charges far too much for this. What an amazing dinner! Staff was very friendly from the valet to hostess to the Manager. Felt very safe with the precautions they have in place as well. We were so into the meal and awesome wine pairings and each other, I didn't even get any pictures of the food. That just gives me a reason to go back again soon. This spot is open for socially-distanced dine-in and for to-go orders. Just, wow. Hand-pulled pasta. Fresh ingredients. Waiters who I swear can speak Italian. I wish I knew more than American English, but Al was so patient with us as she guided us through a four course delight of dishes whose names I cannot pronounce. Whenever Al would come around, she would stop and talk to us. If we were deciding between two champagnes (get the Cantina Della Colta), she would be quick with a recommendation. I have no idea why I'd never been here before, but it is definitely a great spot to hang out with friends for some drinks and a meal. It's a beautiful restaurant with good outdoor seating, a nice dining area, and an upstairs bar. The drinks at the bar are well-made and come with good conversation from their bartenders. The food itself was also enjoyable, though the sauce on the bucatini was a little too salty for my taste. I really enjoyed the mezzaluna, which came stuffed with lamb. What a great way to celebrate Mother's Day. A very affordable brunch - $25/person. The sausage was unbelievably good - just the right size, not too salty. The frittata was firm and had that right mixture of ham, cheese and veggies, and the pesto added a welcome punch to the frittata. The waffles were crisp (these things are hard to do with takeout, people) and had a killer sauce, plus whipped cream. Salad was good (green goddess dressing was amazing!) and finally, the lemon tart was a great way to conclude meal. We received a gift card and we were excited to try it. We brought my 5 month old son and it worked out pretty good. They tucked us into a corner booth away from the action. We were there for a 5:45pm meal. They had happy hour specials on the menu that lasted until 6:30pm. The bread was served room temperature -- would have been better warm. However, it was served with ricotta and olive oil--delicious! The other notable eats: Meatballs - the tomatoe sauce was delicious. Grilled Calamari "bites": great flavor, delicately prepared. Not so great: Grilled octopus, too much going on in the dish. The inclusion of sausage was too strong for the delicate flavor of octopus. Shishito peppers Just too much on the dish: cheese, onions, pine nuts and figs... Why? They are best prepared slightly fried with a dash of salt and pepper. read more

The restaurant is dealing with reopening. They still have wonderful food and awesome service but the manager is in over his head. We arrived at 5 pm to be told we couldn't be seated, as they were fully booked. Many vacant tables greeted are trip to the bar. We wondered upstairs to the "bar" and had a beautiful three course dinner with wine on a 12 inch table with bar stools. When we left at 6 :30 pm, there were still 20 -30 empty tables up and down. When I asked the "manager" he told me there were two servings 6:30 and 8:00, I suggested empty tables weren't a good optic when you'd spent $ 200 eatting in the bar. We felt this was going to be a good place based on the online menu, but it was even better when we were served. Got there during happy hour, so half price drinks and half price antipasti was a good surprise. The Westside Lemonade and The Foreigner mixed drinks were refreshing for a hot day. The small plates were amuse-bouche size to give you an idea. But those prices kind of tell you that as well. Fritto Misto was light and airy. For me the Tomato Salad was missing salt and pepper. The Mezzalune and Cacio e Pepe were simple and flavorful. And to finish the Bombolini was a dessert to piece together with the delight being the basil gelato. Super disappointed. We have been coming here since the beginning of the restaurant and this was our first visit post pandemic. Unimpressed with everything: service, selection, menu, food. First, they took the Farm Egg off the menu; Big Mistake. Second, my linguine was. Fettuccine and I would have been embarrassed to serve these teeny tiny shrimp with any. Both of our pastas were over cooked and even stuck together in a clump. Lastly, the service was mediocre at best. What were they all wearing?
