We ordered fish tacos and a fish burrito (with ahi, I believe that's what it's called?), and both dishes were so bland :( I didnt like their choice of ono/ahi mix for my fish tacos (fish tasted a bit sour, not sure why) and my husband constantly needed to reach for salt to eat his burrito. Service was great however, and the girls who served us did seem to try their best. We won't be back and wouldn't recommend this place to our friends. :( read more

This place was just below ok. A tourist restaurant. Service was a tad slow (granted we had a large party of 14), but it took a while for waitress to come take our order. Food took a while too. They did have some happy hour specials- we tried the fried coconut shrimp I think. Just so so. Food was between ok & so so. The Thai pasta was definitely not good. Nothing was great that'd I'd want to eat again. I was there only 3 weeks ago and I can't remember now what I ordered. That's now memorable it was. Not my first choice for lunch but I'm glad I ended up here! Based on other Yelpers I wanted the fish taco truck down the street but they were closed. Great fortune! I ordered the Ahi appetizer. It was huge and delicious! My hubby had the blackened Ono sandwich- perfectly grilled and seasoned! And the beer was cold plus the wait staff and kitchen were fast and courteous. Okay - so great that we came back 48 hours later!!! My husband was so enamored with seeing huge burritos go by us we came back to get one to go. And we took advantage of happy hour! When you see a menu this large you should know to run, unless you have a time capsule. The good and the bad... First impression, super cool local stop perfect for people watching. Seated at our table street side...not bad! The bad... Open ginormous, smelly, outdated menu indictave of lack of culinary specialty and experience. Still haven't left, second chances are important. Oh hey Hunny, let's try the Avocado, Brie Melt with roasted tomatoes. NOT! Disgusting, do not eat this until they get it right. FYI avocado should be seasoned and is typically best when served in its natural state (cold - not luke warm and mushy), sun dried tomatoes shouldn't look like tiny nail clippings and Gruyere should actually be melted. Order of operation: Bread, Gruyere, Avocado, Tomatoes. Do not order this. Next... We asked our server what customers typically order. He replied "Oh the fish and chips is the best." Sold! I order the fish and chips, hubby orders the chicken ranch wrap. Keep in mind we just did an 8 hr hike and are expecting to fill our bellies with Hawaiian goodness. Fish was overcooked and lacked total flavor. How do you mess up fish and chips?!? His wrap: A wrap you would expect from a menu of 100 items. Ha! His face was priceless. Unfortunately, the only good to end up in our bellies were the waffle fries....probably bought frozen. But hey, they were deep fried and we were hungry. General tips Just an FYI, appetizers come before the entree, not during. Come on Rook! This is kind of funny...even our server knew the food was terrible and thus avoided any confrontation to be had. We get it, maybe you were a temporary employee or your shift was almost over, but at least try to give a shit. Dear Owner... Please overhaul your menu with a select amount of items that you make extremely well and get rid of the dry beer smell upon entry. What do you stand for, what makes you unique, how do you entice your customers? Simple should never be underestimated. A few breakfast items, a few lunch items and a small selection for dinner is all you need. It's better to do a few things well, than 100 things no one will remember. Service is the only reason why I can give this place a star... and for the fact I can't give it zero stars. The only thing that saves this place is the subpar prices on the drinks. I ordered chips and salsa, a fruit plate, grilled cheese with waffle fries, and my boyfriend ordered a chicken quesadilla. I had to send the chips back because they were super salty and the Pico de Gallo smelled like it had been sitting in the fridge for a few days. The fruits salad was ok, the presentation was pretty bad. Just chopped up banana thrown all over the top. I thought they could not mess up a grilled cheese.. I was terribly wrong. The fries and sandwich were really dry and tasteless. My boyfriend said his quesadilla taste like nothing, but was edible. The waitress was kind even though I had to send some things back to the kitchen. This restaurant really needs to take pride in the kitchen. They should care more about what they send out and what they are feeding to paying customers. My fish & chips were delicious and I couldn't finish it because it was such a large serving. I feel obligated to chime in here. Don't waste your time, money, or taste buds. First, there's clearly a disconnect between management and the staff; and or customer service is not a priority at this place. I sat at the bar, traveling alone, and was ignored for a solid few minutes while the bar tender finished her story to 3-4 of the other servers (the primary topic was bashing or shaming of another who wasn't present). Finally I was approached and of course she wasn't inviting. I ordered the beer, she served it. Answers were short, information was not openly available. I almost left at that point but decided to give the chef a chance. The menu is enormous, lending me to believe that there's really no specialty here. It's a do-it-all, and do-it-poorly establishment. The ahi sandwich was ordered seared and came out medium. It wasn't seasoned, yes, plain - on a sesame hamburger bun with raw white onion, tomato and lettuce. Pathetic. I regretfully ate it, but if I wasn't starving this was my second opportunity to leave. The bartender spent the remainder of our time together looking for her car keys. She literally left the bar area for at least 5 minutes on her search. The food was bad, the customer service was worse. While watching, I couldn't help but feel like an onlooker of the show 'bar rescue' before a bar is refurbished. They must only survive on location, view and volume of sales. read more

There was a time when Olympic was a great place to eat. Today's Olympic is hit and miss. Last 4 times I've been there, I had pick my old favorites and they are poorly made. You will get it relativley fast and large portions, but that's it. Had the Carnitas burrito today and it was a joke. They just chopped up some pork and added lettuce and black beans. Tons of fat in it. Noting better than eating this thing they call a Carnitas and spitting out fat. Didn't even try to wrap it like to true burrito. Avocados there have always been old and should have been served the day before and can't eat. But I will say, great place for drinks and if you're drunk, the food is great. I'm giving it 2 stars because the place does have atmosphere but that's it. read more

If you like breakfast burritos this is a must go to place in Kauai! We ordered the recommended Kalua Pork Burrito and it was everything you could have asked for. Delicious pork, potatoes, scrambled eggs, cheese, topped with sour cream and avocado - it's huge, my husband and I split and it was plenty. They served the burrito with fresh mango salsa and my mouth is still watering just thinking about it! We will absolutely be back. This was definitely one of my favorite breakfast meals on our trip. Plus they open at 6AM to feed the early birds. We watched the sunrise each morning and it was nice to head over and grab a bite right after. Thanks for satisfying our burrito craving! read more

This place was a huge surprise looking in from the outside! They have a huge selection on their menu. The serving sizes are Huge so you had better bring your appetite. The prices were great compared to other restaurants on the island. The only complaint I would have If I had to find one is they don't have a kids menu. So the kiddos have to order off the main menu and it's a full size plate. There is plenty of selection though. They just need smaller sizes! read more

The only words said to us by staff the entire time was "what can I get for you?" Ok, that put a salty taste in my mouth. Maybe the server was having a bad night, but she seemed very smiley with her fellow coworkers. I ordered the Kalua Pig plate which was Hawaiian style pork, served with steam rice and veggies. I've had Kalua pork other occasions. But, this pork was very bland, cooked to perfection but ZERO flavor. Then the veggies... they were just steamed, you can't ruin that right? Well yes, yes you can. My veggies were warm and hard.... definitely not steamed all the way. And yet it took 35 minutes for the food to come out when the restaurant was pretty dead...? Will never forget our experiences at this place. We initially stumbled upon this place because many places in the area seem to close in the evening. My wife ordered a salad. It tasted terrible. She only had two bites of it. We complained to the waitress. She said "Let me see what I can do" and took the item away. A few minutes later, she brought our check -- with the salad that was taken way still on the bill. We complained to the waitress about being charged for an item that we not only did not eat --- but was taken away. She said there was nothing she could do. My wife left Olympic Cafe hungry -- and she was noticeably pregnant at the time. That's not right. Olympic Cafe -- SHAME ON YOU! The following would have been acceptable options: 1) If it was the intention of Olympic Cafe to force us to pay for the salad, then the waitress should have left it on the table. A bland salad is better than starvation. 2) Take the salad away and offer a replacement, or 3) Take the salad away and not charge us for it. They would not allow me in because I was wearing a backpack. I'm traveling and do not have a purse. I have my passport, cash , cc, all with me and we walked 20 minutes to get there. They told me it's because it's happy hour and they don't allow back packs in during happy hour because people can bring in their own booze snuck in my the backpack!?? Sounds like a management problem to me and to solve it they punish honest guests like me. Kauai is a laid back island with tons of travelers wearing back packs. Too bad, bad management ruins this place. I offered to leave my backpack with them but they just shook their heads and embarrassed me and my friends by making us leave. Horrible hospitality. Honestly I've had way better. The first time I came, I had an awesome pancake. That is about where the pros end. Today, we came with some others from our family. I ordered a salad while my brother ordered a plain hamburger, the bun not toasted. The food came out, my salad having too many slimy carrots for anyone to eat, strike one, and my brothers burger with a toasted bun. Strike two. We traded it out for a new bun, and it came out with mold on it. Strike three. But you know who got out? My brother and I. We walked down to Hee Fat to grab some shaved ice and walked back upstairs. We immediately got kicked out for having "food or drink from the outside", even though we came in with two bottles of Dr Pepper, and wen we finished them they joyfully asked if we wanted them thrown away. I don't see the problem with ice! Also seeing as it's neither a food nor a drink, whyd we get kicked out? I would give it a 0 if it wasn't for the breakfast. Wow, this place is great. Came to the island on a quick layover, had no clue where to go or what to do. Original plan was Dave's for dinner and fun. Uber and hotel recommended locals, saw this place while walking down the street. Dave's is a bar. Locals is a little too hippy but the folks are super nice. We came in for breakfast this morning. We live here on the west side - not tourists or from Kapaa. We happened to be in the area this morning for breakfast. My husband had a Greek omelet plate and I got a side order of eggs, planning to split his home fries. The food had good flavor and somewhat larger portions. The wait staff was also friendly. However, they didn't get a full 5 stars from us due to the hair or string found on the potatoes. The manager came out and said it looked like it came from the potato bag. I said "oh, so the potatoes weren't cleaned very well?" She said yes. Said she could get us more potatoes. I'm like "no we already ate enough an don't want more". After finding what looks like a white hair...who would want more? Anyway - they didn't compensate us for any part of our meal. Simply apologized and we paid full price. We even tipped the waitress! Just sad - You would think they would offer something of a discount after finding hair or pieces of bags in our food. Where's the customer care or the desire to have repeat business? Is our $ no good? I'm just disappointed in the care of customers on that level by management. The wait staff was embarrassed and we could see that...but If you really want repeat business from people then take care of them and comp their meal when they have something in their food! read more

This is my third year visiting Kauai and I've always enjoyed spending time at Olympic Cafe, but my recent 2 visits left me with a bad vibe. Saturday night I got no service after waiting at the bar so I just left. It was Saturday night and busy so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and came back Sunday around 2pm for lunch. The service was terrible. When I sat near the bar overlooking the street, I asked a server for a menu but after 10 minutes of waiting, I went to the host table at the entrance and practically begged them to be served as I felt like I was blatantly being ignored by this snotty waitress. Another waitress who worked behind the bar eventually took my order but it was the most minimalistic service I've ever gotten. No attempt at small talk, no vibe, and bad morale. Just cut and dry the whole time. When leaving I saw 3 waitresses hanging out at the host table talking to each other. No goodbye or thanks for coming in, just unprofessional. This used to be my favorite place to hang out on Kauai but they've really lost something. Maybe a change in management occurred but they just have a poorly trained staff and lazy bartenders. read more

We should've turned around mid-flight when the stench of stale beer hit us in the face. We were quickly seated with a wonderful view, story goes downhill from here. Our waitress arrives table side (under the influence) takes our drink order(coffee). She returns within a few minutes and asks if we would like anything to drink (again), same order (still under the influence). She returns to take our breakfast order and ask if we would like anything to drink (again x2). There was an obvious issue because our waitress was taken off our table. The new waitress was sober but our coffee still hasn't arrived. Our original waitress is now walking aimlessly around the restaurant with a plate of food and no clue who was hungry, she eventually set it on a vacant table and walked away. thought I was watching a live performance of Intervention. I stopped by at the Olympic Cafe on my first day in Kauai. My lady-friend and I grabbed some lunch there before we checked-in our hotel room. Overall, the price range is generally between $15-$20. I ordered the Kalua pork burrito and my partner ordered the Island Burger. Both plates were fairly good size. We could have potentially shared a dish and been good. However, we took part of our meals back to the hotel. The waiter was excellent! He greeted us at the entrance, sat us down and delivered great service to our table. The only draw backs were the cleanliness in the establishment and restroom. Overall, the spot isn't bad for a meal in Kauai. I'll be back. read more

I have to say, not only does the Olympic Cage have the WORST calamarie on island - Mc Donald's could do better - but the service was sooo poor - I will never be back! Who buys the cheapest worst quality frozen seafood and serves it in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! And who trains these people that work there? My god how do they make a living - they are rude!
