This is definitely a laid-back, hang out, have drinks and appetizers kind of place... which is most suitable for Island life. Other than that it seems to be a place that's been around a very long time, which has a certain charm of its own, yet equally a bit 'long in the tooth'. Located on the second floor of an older, historic type building on the main drag of Kaapa, it is very open air and very casual. We came for lunch and were seated right away, given a choice. It was suggested we sit on the 'ocean side with a view' which turned out to be the parking lot out back with a miniscule peek-a-boo view of the water. OK, now I understand why most folks sit on the street side. Service was friendly, casual and helpful, yet it was noted a wee bit "overwhelmed by the lunch crowd'. There weren't that many people. We got a beer ane a very sweet non-alcoholic drink. The beer was a Bikini Blond from Maui Brewing, very refreshing. We ordered off the daily special menu. I got the Tostada with Mahi ($33.).. Ed got the fish tacos with Mahi. Both platters were quite large and came out in good time. Ed enjoyed the tacos, and he is picky about ii, yet no way to pick them up and eat them with how they were served. My tostada was not really a tostada in a traditional sense, but merely two tortillas underneath a pile of black beans, lettuce, chopped tomato, etc. Plus a generous amount of fresh avacado which was the best part of the meal. The grilled Mahi on top was a nice sized piece but very undercooked. Since we were only given forks it was nearly impossible to cut or break apart to get bite sized chunks. It was frustrating. Ed 's Mahi chunks were far better cooked. So, just an OK meal, barely. This place has obviously been around a long time so must have a ffollowing. The food was amazing and LARGE portions!! Upstairs Restaurant, we sat were there wasn't much of a breeze and street side Wait staff was extremely pleasant. Only reason I'm giving a 4 is because the price of the food is extremely expensive. It was $35 a person, granted a LOT of food, I must have eggs with my pancakes but it was a separate charge!! I know when we came here before the service wasn't the best. Thought we'd give it another try...Hubby ordered the ahi & katsu plate and I got the Gouda Burger. Food is always good, but...our server brought my burger with fries instead of the up charge of onion rings. She had me transfer my burger to a small plate so she could take the fries back. When the onion rings took longer than expected, she brought me a small plate of fries to compensate. Never checked to see how we were doing, didn't refill our drinks. She could've notified us that her shift was ending and checked to see if we needed anything...instead, she spent her time talking to people at the bar and texting. Food 4/5, service could be better. Food was very good but the service was extremely lacking. We were seated immediately, it was moderately busy at 1130 and there were PLENTY of workers. It took at least 5-10 to get a drink order and another 10 to get our drinks. We had 3 children under 3 so being quick with ordering is pretty important. Our orders were taken 20 min after being seated. The food came out relatively fast except for oatmeal.... That came out when most of the party had finished. There was no apology for slow service--so I figure it was probably normal. There was another party that was waiting to pay as they had an excursion to make, so we were not the only ones. The menu was overwhelmingly large! My husband and I stopped here after a long and muddy hike on Sleeping Giant close by. Ambiance was a standard American bar feel but with a vamped up menu. Fair pricing. We ordered fried calamari, a wrap and a salad topped with tuna salad. Portions were large for the main dish. My wrap (pictures) reminded me of a sushi burrito essentially. Service was quick. We arrived at 2:30 after checking hours that they closed at 4:00. I noticed they started turning patrons away at 3:00 and turning chairs upside down on tables as if to signify they were closing soon. Not sure if this is the norm or not. It was a slow day for business and incredibly rainy. We were back through there a few days later, nicer weather and they looked packed. This might be the high point although I did not try their specialty Bloody Mary which I think is $20. Meals hover around $20 and it is moderate pub food quality. Hey, I ate there yesterday and probably would have been less forgiving. For second time around I would go else where. I ate breakfast here 3x. Each time the veggie omelette was loaded with a mix of fresh perfectly cooked green veggies like broccoli, onions garlic and was perfect to share. Country potatoes were well seasoned and the side of papaya was a great plenty. If you are a larger eater enjoy it for yourself. 2 mornings they were playing a nice mix of 70s tunes and the window seats had a lovely breeze. We swung in for a drink after a long day of walking around Kapa'a shopping, but when I sat down at the bar every bartender and server ignored me until I spoke up and essentially demanded what I wanted.. I waited 10 minutes and when I spoke up I felt like a d*** but it had to be done... idk if they hate tourists or were all in a fussy mood but geez, get a grip. It did smell good and the venue was pretty legit - one side of the room was a bar top overlooking the street (the bar was on the second floor, front door opened up to stairs). But I value service over everything. Come here if you feel bold or have time to spare, but I, myself, will never come back here. read more

7 years ago we visited Kauai and my son remembered this restaurant because it made such a great grilled cheese sandwich, just the way he loved it. Unfortunately they no longer have it on the menu, but the waitress knew what I was talking about and the kitchen made it special the way they used to make it, and my son was happy. They have an awesome bloody Mary with all the fixings you could imagine, and more. I really enjoyed it. My daughter also remembered the Kalua Pork from this place, apparently it made an impression so many years ago. We came back again for breakfast on the day we were heading for our flight home, they have a very good breakfast menu with Hawaiian bread french toast or macadamia nut pancakes, plus plenty of other breakfast choices. Both times we came, we were able to seat at one of the tables overlooking the streets of Kapa'a, it felt very refreshing to be able to look out on the sunny island while enjoying our meal. The waitress was very friendly and happy to meet our special requests. I definitely recommend this place when visiting kawaii. read more

Still great. We went again last week after not having visited the island since 2019 (things came up), and we were stoked to make our regular dinner trip to Olympic. Sadly, dinner is no longer an option. We weren't able to find out why they abandoned dinner service - we really enjoyed drinks in the evening with the breezes that flowed through - but perhaps it wasn't worth it. These days, Olympic is a breakfast and lunch experience, and while the hours are different, the beer is freezing cold, the portions are still huge, and everything we had for a late lunch before catching our flight home tasted great (ono fish and chips, kalua pork sandwich, fish tacos, and nori wrap, btw). It's still well worth a stop...but bring back dinner, please! :-) read more

Went for breakfast on a Wednesday. Our experience left something to be desired and I wouldn't come back. PROS: - Once inside, we were greeted by friendly staff and seated right away, with a high chair for my little one. - Nice breeze on the upper level, can sit partially outside - We received our food quickly and portions are huge (although priced accordingly). CONS: - My first impression was that the restaurant was a little smelly/dirty. - Poor service. Our waitress didn't visit the table for quite some time. She never brought my husband's ice coffee, yet it was on the bill. Loved this place! Our waitress was outstanding. For me the real star of the show was the fish and chips. The fries were great, but the fish was UNBELIEVABLE! I couldn't believe how amazing it was. Super disappointed! Everyone told me to come here and I was so ready for their fish & chips!! When my order came there was so so much breading I could not taste the fish. I had to peel half the breading off so I could enjoy a few pieces. I also ordered a coffee and they didn't bring me a spoon to stir it. No water offered. Well , two for Brunch on Easter. We went with French Toast and a Denver Omelet. Old Standards. Both were good but getting them delivered hot was a bit of a chore. One request and it was handled. Endless coffee and the biggest orange juice I ever had. This is all second floor dining, no ADA access. So if you sit along the outside rail you can see traffic below and birds flying by and sitting on the wires. Xlnt service and she had a lot of tables to cover. We ll be back. ! read more

Ok...ugh I wavered between a 3 and 4 star but knew that a 3 star is my truth. One thing I have come to know about Kauai. Is that they do not season their food. What's wrong with a little salt and pepper? Dash of garlic powder and a sprinkle of some kind of razzle dazzle to set everything off? BIG SIGH The customer service was good. We were seated promptly and our waitress came to take our order. She came back to check on us after our food was delivered and asked "how was it"? However she was walking away as she asked therefore, there was truly no interest in our response. If she had really wanted to know I would have told her my eggs were not over medium and the burger on my Loco moco was cooked well not medium as I had asked when I placed my order. Oh well...I added salt and pepper and chewed and chewed away. Didn't finish it. The sticky rice and gravy were good. The coconut syrup is good. It is very sweet. Hubby didn't finish his pancakes...they are good just a lot to eat. The Portuguese sausage was good as well. My guava mimosa was divine! So that is my experience.
