Ok this is a different review I am happy with the food and the service is always amazing. The food is good for what you get and the price is fair. The atmosphere is old and could use some remodeling, as it feels very dated. The staff is always very nice and professional, and they do a very good job. I eaten here now at least 8 or 9 times in last 7 months. They could expand the senior menu to include the burger and pizza. Just a recommendation since most of the people who eat here are retirees. I am sure the management or owners won't care or take anything I say seriously but I hope the general public that reads my reviews will care. read more

Food is good but it's their waitstaff that don't pay attention. I always order the gyros that comes with the white cucumber sauce. the last 4 trips we have made to Olympic in Oakland TN have been less than stellar. When I order for pick up I've ended up waiting 30-45 minutes after the initial 45 minute wait time (total of 1.5 hours). This has happened 4-5 times in the last year. The past two times we went around 6:30-7:00 p.m. with our grandkids and ended up waiting over an hour for our food and it was cold. This last time we paid for a salad bar and drinks and left after waiting over an hour for our entres. The manager was rude , acted like we were causing trouble for her. We love supporting local businesses but we're done with Olympic. I don't see how they will continue to operate like they are now. read more

I've eaten at this location for years successfully but yesterday was horrible. The food items were sub-par, the fish was overcooked, tough, center raw, portions shrank by over half in 2 months. It was cold. This was grilled fish BTW. The grilled veggies were burnt on sides but placed non burnt sides up. The baked potato tasted old as in reheated. Very dissappointed! I did not get the salad bar option this time since the last time I was there the lettuce was so bitter and medicinal I couldn't eat it. I did tell our server, who took it back and they recooked the fish, which was still not good. The server also asked if I wanted something else, so she did her job. So I'm giving 2 stars for the effort. Service was OK but not as usual. Overall, things have changed drastically in a short amount of time which again was a huge disappointment! Went on Friday night hoping the seafood buffet would be good. First, both bars, salad and seafood, were not well stocked. Both were in need of cleaning and refilling. The "catfish" is not catfish at all. It is swai. Overall mediocre at best. The saving grace from a 2 star was the server. She did a good job. This is a hidden Gem that is worth the travel. I had to visit family in Sommerville and this venue in Oakland is very nice.The salad bar is great with fresh greens and a good selection of toppings. The soup and dessert bar that comes with the salad bar puts it over the top. Great banana pudding. I mean Yumm. I really enjoyed the buffet. The fried chicken was the star of the show and the peach cobbler was extremely good. Catfish was decent. The rest was Ok. The fried mushrooms are nice but not that good. Get the mozarella sticks and poppers. All the food items were good. The smothered chicken, lasagna, chicken parmasean, to everything was great. The service was bad. Completely forgot to take food pics! We did a very large takeout order for 17 people and every single item was correct. We did wait a bit longer than the time scheduled for pick up, but we aren't the only people on the planet doing takeout. I had the salmon with grilled veggies and it was excellent. I ordered it rare and it was cooked to order. The salads that came with the main courses were gigantic. I believe that they have a salad bar when dining in, so they certainly were generous portions. One of the best salad bars I've seen in years! It was a good thing my wife wasn't with me because she would have just dragged a chair up to the salad bar and ate right there! It had everything you'd want. If they didn't have it then you didn't need it. I heard the steak was very good but I went with the pizza. It was a deep dish and a tad greasy. However, the ice tea was fresh brewed which is a mark of a truly quality restaurant that is concerned with quality and customer satisfaction. I'll be back on my next trip through. read more

The food is usually good. The salad bar looked awful. The lettuce was nonexistent and we had to ask for it. Food was all over the salad bar and many items were almost gone. Someone should be monitoring the salad bar at all times. The salad bar comes with your meal, therefore it's the first food item that's seen. It should be inviting. read more

Visited on May 21st. Had to travel for funeral the next day so I didn't cook. Ordered catfish and salad bar to go. Catfish was so hard that my husband complained. I called and spoke to Rebecca. She was very nice and said a lot of people had been ordering catfish crispy so the cooks just making everything crispy. She apologized and said my name would be in a book. I offered to even save the fish until I returned from the funeral and she said I was fine. Fast forward to June 11th and I go in for the replacement meal. There is no record of my name in the book. I pull the receipt up on my phone and the manager said I have to come back when Rebecca is there. I asked was Rebecca the general manager. She said no I am. Hazel is the GM and can't recover a guest experience. I said I assume you don't have a district manager. She said no it's family owned. I didn't want to write this review, however, she left me no other option to communicate my frustration. Just came home and made an omelette. Poor and disappointing customer service. I was made to feel like I wasn't being truthful about the bad meal. Hazel advised me that I could pay today and see if Rebecca could give me a credit tomorrow when she returned. I paid and then requested my money back. Why would I give you more money when you already have my money for a meal I couldn't eat. read more

We have been eating at Olympic since they first opened in Oakland, TN. Now, we end up placing a to-go order more often than dining in, but we often order their large Greek pizza and Greek salad or Gyros salad, or their huge, juicy cheeseburger/fries/onion rings from Oakland or Arlington. And I also usually get one of their delicious desserts as well. Their food is always delicious and the staff is friendly and efficient. read more

I'm gonna update for the pizza. I think I'll add another star, but just barely. The pizza was pretty good in some ways. I liked that they made their own beef. I liked the cheese. I didn't like the temperature. It was warm, but not hot. How do you cook a pizza and it won't burn your mouth? Too high of a cooking temp with too many ingredients? Maybe? I think this dough is a type of focaccia. I prefer the New York type dough. It was pretty good for what it was though. I put the leftovers in my ice cooler and ate them cold the next day. If I'm ever here, I might order it again, but if I want pizza, I won't choose this place to get one. read more

We have been to Olympic many times. I want to point out the good first. The lasagna is the BEST I have ever had. So now that is mostly what I order. But I have had less than satisfactory experience on several orders. We do eat in the restaurant and we also place orders to go. The most recent order for myself was a steak and baked potato. I always look forward to a good steak. I didn't eat but about 2-3 bites. First of all it was tough & was ordered medium. But it also had no flavor. I was so disappointed. To go orders are on time. That has never been an issue. They have the order ready when we arrive to pick up. Another plus is the desserts are excellent. I mostly don't order it for myself but my husband does. I have had several different desserts and all were very good. Thinking I wanted something different I ordered the steak sandwich or maybe it was called Philly sandwich. Another disappointment. The flavor was lacking but I kept on using the au jus and did eat most of it. Last, we love catfish but had a less than good experience with that. It wasn't bad but just okay. I have decided that I will still go there or place a "to go" orders because of the lasagna. Husband says the spaghetti is very good too. I usually do not do reviews but now that prices are increasing all the time I do expect to have a good meal. I've learned if you want catfish then go to a catfish place; same for steak. I think it's not just Olympic but many restaurants want to provide food for families or just something different. The Italian is the best. On take out orders for lasagna and spaghetti you get one slice of bread. My husband almost always says we would like an extra piece of bread on both orders. And says he will pay extra. I would say once or twice we got extra bread. After many times of going through that it was just irritating. Go Tuesday through Thursday and eat their pizza buffet. All kinds of pizza, lasagna with cheese on top that is at least two inches thick. Fettuccini Alfredo with grilled chicken, and it just goes on. If you like pizza and pasta you can't go wrong. On Fridays they have the seafood buffet and if you don't like any of the above they have steak which is usually always good. I believe the only thing I haven't liked is the baked potato. For some reason it's always not exactly cold but it's never hot and it's not a good texture. That's the only thing I haven't liked. That and fix the ice cream machine so that it doesn't come out soupy all the time. read more

Overall, I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious, pizza or calzone experience. I went here for the weekday lunch buffet. The buffet was pretty good! It was a reasonable $8.99. On the buffet was fried catfish, pork tenderloin, roast beef, green beans, mashed potatoes, petite potatoes, rolls, and peach cobbler. The thing that shocked me the most was, no pizza? Minus 1 star. Thats half the reason I came here. However the food was fresh, i did go there right at 11 when it opened so I cant speak on a late buffet. Finally, I deducted an additional star for the simple fact that the lunch buffet has no kid price. I took my 4 year old, and the buffet would have been the same price. Maybe they can add a kids price in the future since they don't eat anywhere near $9 worth of buffet food. The service was outstanding, and I added a star back for that. read more

Opened in 1977 when it was trendy to put "Pizza" & "Steak" in the name, Olympic became an instant hit, I would guess. But it has evolved into several menu pages offering many more choices. Salad Bar was fresh & immaculate. Soup was Old Fashioned Vegetable. After the Lunch Rush, with only a handful of Diners, my House Special Pizza came out in 15 minutes. It was thick crust with ample ingredients evenly distributed, not doused in sauce. Manager & Employees were quietly moving & working. No one was on a cell phone or broadcasting personal issues. Beware, Don't be deceived by the seafood buffet. The fish is not catfish as it appears to be. It's imported Asian fish called Sway. It's raised in cesspools in Vietnam. When I asked, the waitress, she confirmed that it was indeed Sway, then one of the young male servers spoke up and said to me "You caught us, didn't you?" This is wrong. The liver and onions was excellent as was the service, just don't be fooled by the buffet. I won't be back to any Olympic location because, this is just wrong. Gave it 3 stars because the employees were friendly, the restaurants I visited (the one in Oakland, Tn and the one in Arlington, Tn) were clean, salad bar was well stocked and we didn't wait long for a table. I've had the cheeseburger and fries on one visit, spaghetti on another and a steak on another visit. The spaghetti was good but the bread served with it is dry and tasteless. The steak wasn't good at all. Didn't appear very appetizing, but it was cooked to order. It was kind of bland tasting, no real seasoning. The cheeseburger and fries were very good. read more

What a great find! My office is out in Oakland, so I've driven by this place about a hundred times, always saying I would stop in and try it sometime. I finally got the chance the other day when I was leaving work and hungry. I ordered a pizza to go - hate eating out alone. I absolutely LOVED this pizza!! The crust was yummy - somewhere between crispy and soft, but with a nice yeasty flavor. The sausage and cheese were plentiful and it was actually still fairly hot when I got it home. I would definitely recommend this place. Love to try some of the other items on the menu next time. read more

Updating my review just to say how they're handling covid19. We went on a Friday evening. I wanted some raw veggies and this is the only local place I know that offers a salad bar. They're doing take out and eat-in. Tables are spaced appropriately. Social distancing was observed. Servers wear masks. Place is clean. They have raised their prices a bit since the last time I ate here. Dishes with beef as the main ingredient have gone up considerably. That's totally understandable. At least it's right there on the menu and they don't hide that fact until you get ready to pay, as some restaurants are doing. They offer a $30 special for appetizer and 2 entrees and 2 salad bars, so we got that. I got the country fried steak and a baked sweet potato. Better half got chicken parmesan and spaghetti. Little guy got a pizza. The waiter brought cheesy bread to the table. Delicious! Offered to make our salads, and made them just like we ordered. Appetizer was good. We took most of our entrees home since there was so much food. Little guy loved the cheesy pizza! Excellent service. Even as crazy busy as he was, the waiter checked in multiple times. We ordered the catfish with two side orders and the fried steak with two side orders, but we only got one of our side orders because the person filling our orders forgot and left the items under the light. We did not realize our food was missing from the bag until we got home. We call back to inform the person answering the phone, she put us on hold for a few minutes after speaking with the manager Dakota......he stated that he would refund the whole order. The next day Dakota stated that he can't refund us, but he can give us the food that was missing! A day later!!! LOL!!! That's a joke. Not even willing to give a portion of the money back for there mistake. I don't like writing bad reviews.... and I've really debated posting this one because I love home grown restaurants. But. The "dynamite" shrimp was more like a dud. It took 10 minutes to get a drink and I had to tell the waiter that the appetizer didn't come with 2 sides. (Pic of the pitiful appetizer is below). I then ordered the catfish. Bland at best (and that's being nice). Probably some of the least tasteful I've had in years. It however, came after the appetizer AND the husbands salad which came first???? I've never seen a salad course before the appetizer. 10 minutes after I was served my catfish (sans the potato that I ordered) the husbands steak came along with the potato I had ordered. I told the waiter I'd wait to eat until husband could. Let's not mention the hush puppy nuggets and cold veggies.. Unfortunately the potato arrived cold. I mean really? Either the staff wasn't trained properly or we caught an off day, but either way? For a steak and catfish dinner? $75 plus tip? I'd go elsewhere. I wish I had a picture of the lettuce and Parmesan cheese to show just how pitiful the rest of this was. I had heard it was a decent place. I won't be back. Again very disappointed! I have given this restaurant more chances than I have ever given any, I have eaten at 2 of their other locations & have never been disappointed. To begin with the servers need some extensive training! I have been a server myself & it's not difficult to smile & be attentive to your customers needs. That's how you make your money after all! They are all rude & look like they are mad at the world! The salad bar AGAIN was dirty & needed to be stocked! what lettuce there was was sitting in 3 inches of nasty water! I asked our server to have someone restock it, 15 minutes later it was somewhat done. Several other things needed to be filled; most of the dressings & the banana pudding was completely empty. The pizzas, which was supposed to be the specialty tonight was cold & not very tasty. I wish the owner or someone would come help this place out, I'd love to see them succeed!
