Went here when in Meriden for a softball tournament based on Yelp reviews. Sorry to say we had a bad experience. Coffee tasted like dishwater, waitress was abrupt and rude. Forgot simple requests. Really was not that busy. Place is small and cramped. Listened to waitress chastise another table for plugging their phone charger in to the outlet under their table. There are much better places that deserve your business. Steer clear of this place. Can't explain high ratings on Yelp. Must be low standards. read more

First mistake - going here for breakfast Second mistake. - not checking fellow Yelper reviews first. We were on our way to Massachusetts for a work project and wanted to stop somewhere for breakfast. Unfortunately we got off at the exit for the Olympos Diner. They have a large banner on the outside of the building saying "Voted Best Breakfast in 2013". Signs on the inside saying same thing. I want to know who voted them for this? I would run them over if I saw them. So you don't make the same mistake we did, this is a very small diner, very small. So the waitress tells us to sit anywhere. First booth feels like the table is about to fall over so we moved to another one. Next, now it's 8:00 in the morning. So the waitress asks " are you here for breakfast?". Are you kidding me? It's 8:00 in the morning I'm reading the breakfast menu and I need to explain why I'm there? Next she brings coffee then disappears to the other side of the diner. 20 minutes later we say "hello, did you forget us". Yes she did. By the way, there were four people in the diner, how could she forget us, she walked by a dozen times. So the food... All bad . Yes all bad. Trust me. Heading from NY to visit some friends in Mass, we stopped at this little diner. We were hoping to experience Cracker Barrel (because we do not have any in NY) but must have missed the one on the way. The diner was conveniently located off I91... you know when you are driving, and you really have to pee, and you await that sign off the highway.... food and lodging next exit......well this was one of those times! Besides that we were hungry. It was a great choice! The food was excellent. Olympos diner is a small diner, filled with locals who seem to come in often (because the waitress seemed quite familiar with most of the customers). They have a breakfast special from 6am-11am. Make sure your not late though, no special for you! We got the "egg specials" which were delicious. Mine was feta, onion, tomato and bacon omelet. My boyfriend had the eggs and hash. (as shown in the pic) Both were priced at about $7.00 The view out the window is not appealing, and the diner itself looks like it could use some updating but who cares they have a great breakfast!!! read more

I struggled with this one because admittedly I had the second best omelette of my life here. Ultimately I could only give them 3 stars tho because they are inconsistent, and more often than not the food is just your average diner food. While the staff is always friendly, I would say service is typically average as well. On my most recent visit there was only one guy serving all of the tables, so a little bit of a wait would be understandable. Instead of asking us to wait a few moments he told us to take a seat in a booth that hadn't been wiped down yet and was clearly dirty. Same thing happened to a couple arriving about 15 min after us. I'll probably continue to go back once in awhile hoping to get an omelette as good as the one I had when I first visted, and there are some home made desserts that looked like they might be good. If you go just make sure to have reasonable expectations. read more

Ambiance: Good, clean, diner-chic. The coffee mugs are well worn but not quite chipped, and the laminated menus, while worn-in, aren't worn out. You can tell that the owners & operators take good care of this place. Service: Great. Our waitress was kind & efficient and the kitchen accommodating to a special request made by my partner. On top of that, everyone had a kind word as we made our way out at the end of our meal. Food: Superb. Best omelette I have ever had, hands down. Good food--abysmal service. Full disclosure: I spent most of my career working in customer service, so I tend to cut waitstaff a lot of slack. I asked for a booth and was denied one "because they were about to get busy." I asked for some substitutions that would have wound up costing them less, but was told no substitutions were allowed. The head waitress was loudmouthed and rude, and the others were inattentive and flaky. One of the guys in the kitchen area had his face mask down around his neck. I can only assume the waitstaff here assume that older women dining on their own are cheap tippers. I'm not--my default is 20%+, except for this time. read more

After going through an awful day of terrible food picks in Meriden. (Side note: Get your s* together Meriden, your food sucks) I finally stepped foot into this place. I ordered a coffee and a plate of spaghetti with marinara, a side of sauteed vegetables and a salad. I'm glad I came here. Price: Extremely affordable. The pasta comes with a BIG SALAD. (The taste test will follow) The pasta was enough to fill me up and box a decent serving to take home. My entire dinner came to roughly $12. WORTH EVERY PENNY! Food: Salad: This was the salad that came with the pasta, usually you just get some iceberg lettuce with a wedge of a tomato and some dressing out of a bag, but not here. The Chef makes his own dressing apparently and boy is it worth it! The salad had cucumbers, onions, peppers, lettuce, tomatoes...it was wonderful! The balsamic dressing was incredible as well! Pasta: Very decent bowl of spaghetti, indeed. Granted...nothing fancy here but at least you're getting a tasty bowl of pasta, nothing to write home about but nothing to sneeze at either specially for the price! The sauteed vegetables were great! Delicious and tasted fresh, I put it with my pasta and came out very nice! Atmosphere: Everyone here seemed friendly enough, the waiter (Ryan?) i could be mistaken on his name was so lively and a very warm and friendly. Seemed like the guy you'd want to have a beer with. Made me feel right at home at this place and took great care of me and my dietary restrictions. A lot of times I get dirty looks from waiters when I ask for some modifications due to my dietary concerns, but he put me at ease and made sure everything was fine. I went to the Steiner because it was across from the Lowe's outlet. The waitress was very nice and sweet but the portion size was ridiculously small and the food was not good for the price. We just ate here while staying across the street. Old style diner feel. Nice cozy setting. I was blown away by the amazing food and even better service. Everything was so fresh and perfect portions. We had breakfast of course. My wife and my sister both had the 2,2,2 with thick slices of french toast. I had a simple 2 eggs and toast. Everything was delicious, but the best was yet to come. Homemade tapioca. It was amazing. I also had a coffee milkshake to go. The service was perfect. Very friendly and sociable. We are definitely planning to hit this place up again tomorrow morning for breakfast before we head back home. Very friendly staff, lots of specials and good food. I've worked in Meriden for a couple of years but I've never gotten around to eating here, but I'll definitely be going back. Everyone typically goes to Huxley's which is good but kind of over-rated. This place is just as good, if not better, and has more reasonable prices. I had the 2-2-2 breakfast special and it was great. The platter was packed with food and the pancakes were fluffy yet substantial. My friend got the California omelette and he said it was great. It looks like they haven't updated the menu on their website in a while, but there were probably an additional 10-15 different daily/weekly specials on their chalkboards, so they have excellent variety. read more

Oh my goodness, what a mistake it was going here. I met my girlfriend here for breakfast and house this place because it was top of the list for breakfast options on google near Meriden. The service was so bad. The place was super small and we were avidly looking for our server for 10 minutes until another server came over to take our order when she notice. I ordered steak and eggs and when my meal was ready they served it to me. Then 5 minutes later my friends food came out. She ordered bacon and they served us the worst bacon I've ever had. It tasted like dirt and tofu. At the end of the meal when the waitress finally comes back we tell her and she argues that it's real bacon and no one ever complains about it. Didn't take it off the bill. The food was completely aweful I understand why its $12.95 for steak and eggs. Its was a 99 cent steak. They only have equal and white sugar on that table. That was annoying. A diner should also have sweet and low and splenda. I drank my coffee with just cream. Our server was such a ray of garbage. I understand hating your job but like seriously, she was the most crotchety person I think I've ever met. What an absolutely horrible experience I had this morning!! I went here this morning to order a healthy breakfast because today I knew there be donuts in my office I ordered an egg white omelette and fruit on the side and was charged an exorbitant amount of money for this small tiny little breakfast . When I question the waitress to check the price she went to the owner and was told this is the price there is a substitution charge to have fruit instead of toast and hashbrowns.. fine not a problem when I looked at their menu for breakfast and saw that the average breakfast was approximately five dollars I was upset the waitress asked me if I would like the copy of the receipt and I said to her no I don't want to ruin my day further... as I was leaving the waitress made the comment that people are crazy today and I took that personally you may want to wait until I leave before you discuss how you feel about me. I have frequented this establishment for many years with my family for dinners and lunches and breakfast I feel completely gypped .. it's too bad that this occurred. you may want to think twice about having such a ridiculous policy. read more

Great service here. Love how the server told me what was really good there without me asking that right there makes me tip extra. Other places be like everything is good feels like they just don't care. I had the gyro burger made ground gyro meat and beef it was so so good!!! From the outside it's small and nondescript, which a shame because inside are clues that the now boxy stucco structure was a once a train car diner. Hard to see that covered up. The crowd was light during our early morning, midweek visit. One waitress took care the counter and tables. We ordered standard bacon and eggs. The food was good and the prices were fair. My one complaint... coffee cups were kept full, but when it came to a refill on my tea I was given hot water but not a new tea bag. Fantastic Food! I and the company I ordered with loved this food! However, when ordering through DoorDash expect backlash! They have apparently signed up with DoorDash delivering service but do not like to cooperate with them. I ordered on a weekend, the Dasher arrived at the restaurant and was apparently turned away. An employee told the Dasher to relay to me that "We don't do that on the weekends, we've told DoorDash 100x". Needless to say, I wasn't served and needed to request a refund (which I'm still waiting on) from DoorDash. The employees seem to either be extremely lazy or unprofessional, or both. Oh Olympos... You've been my go-to diner for such a long time. Being within walking distance is always a plus, but your waitstaff is what seals the deal for me. Yes the food is diner food. It's pretty standard, and very consistant. The decor is just superb! While dining there, you always have the feeling that you're eating in a time machine that brings you back to the more simple times. However, for being an older-looking diner, the entire place seems to be SPOTLESS! The waitstaff is ALWAYS pleasant and makes you feel completely welcomed here. Simply awful. Never been to as terrible a diner as this one. First they forgot to bring us coffee for about 20 minutes. Then our food came about and hour after we arrived one by one, not all together. Never asked for refills on water or coffee. My husband and I ordered omelettes, mine was way undercooked, very liquidy. My husband found a hair in his. Yuck! My son's hamburger bun was ice cold, and fries we very hard-over cooked. I am absolutely amazed at how caring the current owners of this diner are! My dad has been going here since the early 1980s. He now has dementia. Someone from his group of friends picks him up so he can join everyone at 6am. Lately, my dad has had trouble with losing his credit card or forgetting he has it. One of the owners called me to offer an arrangement for paying his tab. I am blown away by their willingness to make sure he can continue to enjoy the best part of his day. In this day and age, it's refreshing that the young owners of a local business actually care about people! Oh, and he loves their food, too! read more
