This is one of the closest diners to my mothers workplace, so it's one of our few options to eat at on her lunch break. Multiple times shes been late to work because they can't make an order within an hour. Today was particularly bad. We walked in, sat down, and didnt have our order taken for 20 minutes, as people who sat down after us were attended to. While waiting for our food, our waitress was playing with the owners toddlers BEHIND THE COUNTER, which not only is dangerous, the owner was here watching this happen. By time we got our food, most of our orders were wrong. By the way, we only ordered basic club sandwiches, nothing complex. We were absolutely pissed off after waiting 45 minutes for two sandwiches, one of which had hair iThe fact that the manager was here, allowing the waitresses to babysit her children while customers were unattended to proves that this is a management problem that will continue to happen until this place evidently closes. *Edit*: My grandmother and sister went here a few months after I wrote this, and had another horrid experience. My sister was playing on her phone while waiting for service, and the waiter came up to the table, threw sugar packets at her, and told her to "get of your phone." Stopped in on Sunday to get a quick bite on the way back home from a trip to LI. I ordered what was supposed to be a gyro. The meat (I think) was cut into tiny little pieces about 3cm square. Looked like burnt scraps that were leftover and giving to me to finish out the day. I asked the waitress if this was supposed to be the gyro. she said yes sometimes to make it cook faster he cuts it up really small. We also never was asked how our food was or had our ice tea refilled when we finished them halfway through the meal. Everyone needs a local diner like this! We stopped for lunch on our drive to Boston because a diner seemed like a better option than standard fast food. We were very impressed and a bit surprised at the quality of the food and the friendly staff. It was like stepping back in time where people extended kindness to strangers, fed them a good meal, and wished them well. We went to this place on a whim after visiting the mall nearby. Wasn't our first choice but we decided to give this place a try. The place is run down, hole in a wall place that can use a little facelift from the outside and tight little kitchen/ dining area inside. We were greeted at the door by our waitress and got us seated. The wait time is about 20 mins for our food. Coffee is watered down, food is decent. I ordered Polish Benedict with home fries. Egg was a little overdone (not the typical runny yolk of Benedicts) but tasty. Would I recommend this place? Sure, only after you ran out of place to go to. :-/ read more

So we stopped in here because the kids were starting to get antsy after being stuck in a car for 8 hours and it was lunch time. As soon as we walked in, it was like being treated like family. I got a renewed love to pastrami after having the signature sandwich, pastrami rueben... and this can only be recommended for future customers. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! I had the best pea soup I ever had. After commenting that to Ryan (the best server ever) he informed me that all soups are homemade along with the food. The middle aged waitress was phenomenal however the two younger girls had NO idea what they were doing. We had to consistently remind them that we needed water and coffee among other things. This place is absolutely horrible. My friend ordered the buffalo chicken wrap...in one word...disgusting. The chicken wasn't fully cooked, the lettuce was rotten, and the sauce was tasteless. I ordered the Monte Cristo. The turkey smelled bad and was extremely dry. Neither of us took more than one bite of our food. Oh...and my friend also ordered "Clam Chowder". Really great food with great fast service e with a smile. We started with the crab cakes. Homemade and flavor fall and more crab then bread crumbs. I had the chicken salad Club. Probably some of the best chicken salad I've ever had. Homemade, they boil it to make the soup. The other entree was chicken parmesan. I was skeptical about ordering this in a diner. This place is the basics. It's not fancy, its not elegant. It's a diner. It DOES have friendly staff. It DOES have good diner food. It's the only place I know where I can get chicken croquettes and mashed potatoes. Real Mashed even. Good gravy. Their menu is basic. Breakfast all day. Open faced this and that. Burger clubs and such. Their dessert is hit or miss. Depends on the day. But overall the price is good and the food is good. I like the old time feel. And, I keep coming back! read more

This place is exactly what you would expect of a local diner dive. I live for places like this and have been dining here ever since I moved to Meriden 12 years ago. The help behind the counter is always entertaining. Donna is the best waitress and knows what I want before I even order. I mostly have been here for breakfast, however I've also had other meals here too. There are plenty of local places to eat around Meriden, and for the price and the diner experience, the Olympos is a place you would want to visit. If you are looking for a place thats extra clean and brand new, this isn't it, but then again try finding a place in Meriden that is brand new inside. read more

When a diner is your need, this fills the bill! Friendly, fast service from a staff who remembers their locals and treats them like friends, but also is welcoming to the outsiders. My Greek omelette was superb...the feta chunks were strategically placed to give yum in every bite. Coffee delicious and constantly regilled with a smile. Only pitfall for me was I usually don't eat much grease, and while theirs was certainly light compared to most New England diner standards, it will surprise people who might not be used to a lot of butter or oil used in their cooking. Stopped here looking for a quick lunch on our way to VT. I was skeptical based on the exterior but gave it a try anyway. Its a dated greek diner (32 years in business ) with a comfortable lunch counter and several booths. The waitstaff were pleasant, friendly and accommodating. I had a delicious pastrami rubin, it was lean, tender and perfectly toasted on the grill. Their house made coleslaw was a tangy mayo and vinegar style that complemented the rubin nicely. My son had the gyro burger. He said "best burger I've ever had", and hes had a lot of burgers. Hes is a bit of a burger snob! The burger was a hand formed patty of ground gyro meat mixed with feta and served on a fresh soft kaiser roll. Wife had a grilled cheese with bacon and a side of house made corned beef hash. A it light on the bacon but a yrue "grilled" cheese. I tasted the hash and can say it was tasty. Finished lunch with "Toms" house made rice pudding, creamy, tender and served with just enough whipped cream and cinnamon. Most if not all of the desserts looked homemade. Its obvious they care about the food they put out at Olympos diner and their customers. You don't stay in business 30+ years not caring. I went on a Thursday afternoon with my mother. There weren't many people there so we were taken care of relatively quickly throughout the meal. I agree with what the other reviewer said about the majority of patrons being locals. The waitress seemed quite nice as well. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger lunch special, which came with fries and soup (I chose the soup of the day- chicken rice soup). My mother ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and corn. We also received bread after ordering, which you don't often get at a diner (a nice touch). My mother said to me that she liked her food and told the waitress that it was excellent, so I assume it was at least pretty good. The burger was pretty good, the fries and soup were also nice. The food came out VERY quickly, which was quite nice, but as I said it was not at all crowded. I'll have to try their breakfast sometime in the future, as they have breakfast specials along with lunch ones. The diner does seem a bit older, but I didn't mind at all. Having grown up in Meriden, I am familiar with the local spots. I drive by this Diner all the time, and had yet to stop in for food. On our first visit, my GF and I stopped in for a quick bite to eat in the afternoon. The place is small, the waitresses appeared to know all the regulars (most seemed to be in their 70s+) and the prices were in line. We ordered, ate and it was nothing special. It was on our second and last trip that we had a terrible experience. My GF has food issues, and needs to make sure she gets things how she orders them. Having worked in the restaurant business, she feels terrible being "such a pain", as she calls it. During our visit, my GF ordered an egg white omlet, as they had this listed on their menu. Our food arrived and it did not appear to be egg whites. It was dark yellow in color, dripping with butter, and not what she expected. In seeing the look on her face the waitress came over to ask what the matter was. My GF indicated she wanted an egg white omlet and this appeared to be regular. The waitress insisted it was egg whites, but just an off color. My GF reluctantly decided she would try and eat them, and the waitress left. After picking at them for another minute or so, the second waitress came over and asked about the omlet. At first we assumed she was going to try and correct it, but she spent the time telling us she can get the egg shells and egg yolks out of the garbage to prove it. In the end my GF decided to just eat what she could. At that moment the waitress went into the other "room", by room I mean section as this is a very small building. There are no doors blocking the areas off and we could hear the waitresses "discussing" our situation. They spent a few minutes laughing and making fun of us, what they though was behind our back. After sitting there long enough my GF confronted the ladies, who had every lie to tell us they weren't "making fun" of her. My GF ended up crying and leaving, and I decided to take my food to go and pay. After my GF left, the waitress then tried to comment about her over reacting to the situation. extremely uncalled for, but probably to be expected. I'm a very easy going person, and even in this situation chose to stay calm and try and make things right. The truth was, what the waitresses did was uncalled for and unprofessional. In the end it's simply a place we won't ever go to again, and a story to tell around the water cooler. Not that people read these reviews prior to going to a hole in the wall type place, but if they do, be advised they may not be so nice to you, once your in and eating. read more

This is a traditional diner. It's not like a chain diner with 100s of different options. They do the simple meals exceptionally well. Excellent service and management. I was by myself but I felt like I was part of the Olympos family. I plan on eating at the Olympos Diner every time I drive through CT. I had french toast with a side of bacon, and several cups of coffee. I also got a toasted corn muffin to go, and ate it a few hours later - like the my meal, the muffin was delicious. Excellent, classic diner. We went for breakfast with our kids. We are a large family, so we present some challenges off the bat. We also deal with food allergies, which make eating out a challenge. The friendly staff handled all of our issues with ease. All of us had a great breakfast while traveling. We really appreciate the cook making sure we all had a safe, healthful breakfast.
